Momo smiled brilliantly as she and her friends took their seats. The Culture Festival had gone off without a hitch (save for Izuku showing up on stage a bit bruised) so she’d decided to gather up the rest of the Class 1A band along with her aforementioned boyfriend for dinner at an authentic Italian restaurant near their school.
“Hello Miss Yaoyarozu, who are your frie- Oh hey! Mr. Midoriya! Great to see you!” Greeted the server.
“Hey Mario, good to see you too! How are things with that one girl you told me about?” Izuku replied.
“Oh she’s great! I’ve actually just started saving up to give her a ring.”
Izuku’s face broke out into his usual brilliant smile. “Well, make sure my own girlfriend and I can get an invite and we’ll see about speeding up that purchase.”
Momo blinked. “Not that I don’t approve of why you’re doing so, but I’m not sure I appreciate you inferring that I’d be leaving a larger tip for your friend here.”
Izuku frowned. “Did I say you would leave the tip?”
Momo suddenly felt a bit put off. “Well, I mean I’m-”
Bakugo let out a mischievous chuckle. “He hasn’t told you yet, has he Ponytail?”
“Told me what?”
“Miss Yaoyarozu, Mr. Midoriya leads a rather comfortable lifestyle as well,” explained Mario.
Momo blinked again. “How comfortable do you mean?”
Izuku rubbed the back of his neck. “Let’s just say, if our parents went to dinner together, they’d hand the check to my parents first.”
“Wait a minute, Midoriya, are you saying you’re richer than Yaomomo?!?!” Jiro gasped.
Izuku shifted nervously in his seat. “My parents always said that you shouldn’t show off how much money you have. It’s immodest and impolite.”
Momo slouched in her seat. This was a strange feeling. Everywhere she went, she was used to feeling like she was the most privileged person in the room. Two of their classmates were the children of pro heroes and she still stood above them, but then it turned out that the boy who wore t shirts that read “pants” in Kanji was actually more privileged than her? “Goodness me, this is quite the adjustment.”
“I’ll say! So Midoriya, should I ask you about what’s good here?” Kaminari teased.
“You do seem to have a rapport with the staff here,” Tokoyami noted.
Bakugo smirked. “I used to bully the hell out of Deku when we were kids because he didn’t have his quirk yet, but our parents were friends because my parents designed clothes for his parents.”
Izuku let out a soft chuckle. “So whenever we were having a family dinner together, Kacchan had to act nice, or his family was ruined.”
The entire rest of the table’s eyes went wide.
“And I knew he’d never say anything specifically because he cared about my family just as much as I did, but I didn’t want to tempt him,” Bakugo laughed.
The table fills with relief.
“While I’m sure it’s fun catching up and learning new things, perhaps you’d all like to start ordering?” Mario asked.
“Oh right! Uh, let’s see, a New York strip for Kacchan, well done. A personal pizza with pepperoni for Kaminari. And a plate of spaghetti for Tokoyami and I, no meatballs for Tokoyami though. Momo, what would you and Jiro like?”
“Well, if my dear thinks it’s so good, I’ll have the spaghetti as well,” Momo replied, actually feeling a bit impressed by Izuku’s confidence in this setting.
“How about we up Kaminari to a medium and him and I’ll split,” Jiro replied, taking the electric blonde’s hand in her own.
Momo smiled fondly as her best friend shared a moment with her boyfriend.
“Just as planned,” Izuku whispered to Mario.
Mario jotted down the order and winked at Izuku before walking away.
“Izuku Midoriya! Where did this all come from?!” Momo laughed, looking at him incredulously.
Izuku blushed. “I, y’know, look, it’s… Easier to feel comfortable when I don’t feel like I need to hold back.”
Momo made a small glance at her boyfriend’s crooked fingers. “Speaking of holding back, how is your control of your quirk going?”
“Deku’s made leaps and bounds with Endeavor, I hate to say it, but it’s getting harder and harder to compete with him every week,” Bakugo conceded.
“Oh you and Todoroki are definitely making me work for it. I fully see a future where the three of us are all fighting for our place in the top five.”
“Who do you think gets number one?”
“Togata.”
“Really?” Interjected Jiro. “The Class 3B kid who flashed us all? I thought he’d lost his quirk?”
“What do you do when you miss something on TV?”
“You rewi- Eri?”
“She reversed the damage from Chisaki’s drug and gave Togata his quirk back. And honestly, even without his quirk, he probably still could have made it into the top 50.”
“Oh come on Deku! I know you always fantasized about a quirkless hero, but come on!” Bakugo protested.
“This guy lost his quirk and then still punched the shit out of Chisaki. He didn’t give a damn. Not even a little bit. His job was to protect that little girl and he absolutely did!”
“Determination and resolve to what one can to protect innocents do have the makings of an exemplary hero,” Tokoyami noted.
“I agree completely, but I think you’ll be giving Togata a run for his money with those extra quirks of yours,” Momo teased.
“Okay enough lovey dovey crap or hero stuff, Midoriya, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done with your money?” Kaminari asked.
Izuku sat back in his chair and thought. “I could say that my mom and I booked a trip to LA to visit my dad after we got my acceptance letter but that was her money. With my money… Well when the dorms were put in place I actually didn’t want to move everything from my room at home, so I just ordered a second one of everything I already had at home and sent it to UA.”
“Wait, so how much of that is All Might merch?”
“About a dozen posters and figures each, plus the curtain and the bedding.”
“And how much was that?”
“Eh, only 70,000 Yen plus shipping.”
“70,000?!?!” Yelped Kaminari. “You spent 70,000 just because you didn’t feel like moving your stuff from your room at home?”
“Actually, I’m surprised from the opposite side, I would’ve thought with how much passion you have All Might, you’d have spent more on his merch,” Momo noted.
“I do but I don’t hold onto it. The only really rare piece of merch I have is Sir Nighteye’s tenth anniversary poster and that I only have because he willed it to me. Everything else I usually just get because I saw another fan looking at it longingly and decided I wanted to do something nice.”
“What happened to not showing off?” Jiro asked.
“Usually it’s just for little kids. I ask the parents if it’s alright to get their kid something cool, and let them take the credit.”
“You only pay for the toy?”
“If they’re getting groceries, I pay for them too. I don’t want to sound callous, but that kind of money is pocket change for me.”
“You would be well advised to not mention that in front of Uraraka,” Tokoyami noted.
“Oh she knows I’m rich, I told her after she started teasing Iida about it,” Izuku chuckled.
“Did you do anything for her situation?” Momo asked.
“I paid for her costumes.”
“Just hers?” Jiro asked.
“And Kacchan’s.”
“My family doesn’t need the help but he said he was paying it forward for what my parents did for his.”
“Could you pay for all of Class 1A’s costumes?” Kaminari asked.
“I could pay for the entire hero course’s costumes, second and third years included, and still have enough money to take the six of us to Hawaii for a weekend.”
Momo laughed. “Goodness! I could probably pay for us and Class 1B but the entire hero course?”
“Iida and Todoroki say they could pay for Class A or B together but not by themselves,” Tokoyami noted.
“Enough money talk losers, here comes the food,” Bakugo piped in.
Everyone quickly began digging in. Momo had initially planned on getting the chicken alfredo herself but quickly discovered just how terrific the spaghetti was. She wasn’t the only one enjoying her meal seeing as her friends were currently in love with theirs.
“So Izuku, how long have you known our server?” Momo asked.
“Not too long, his father just started letting him work here last year. He was a business student at UA actually, this is just a part time job while he works in my dad’s company.”
“How does an Italian family even end up in Japan?” Kamanari questioned.
“Oh their family came here during the second world war when Italy and Japan were allies, they took a liking to the place, and stuck around after we both lost.”
“Hang on now, you said your dad owns a company, what do your parents do exactly?” Jiro asked.
“My dad owns 54% of a multinational corporation involved in aerospace manufacturing. My great grandfather on my dad’s side bought a controlling interest in a company called Boeing at the Dawn of Quirks.”
“Oh yes! My great grandfather on my mother’s side was the CEO of that company at the time. The Yaoyarozu Group was formed from its ashes.”
“And so was Green Tech.”
“GREEN TECH?!?!” Yelped Kaminari, Jiro, and Tokoyami.
“Yep, Deku’s got that Fuck You Money,” Bakugo chuckled.
“And Kacchan’s the type to bully the rich kid that his family works for! Tells you all about how much nerve he has,” Izuku teased.
“Damn right!”
Momo giggled. “Green Tech and the Yaoyarozu Group, it always seems as if our meeting was predestined.”
“Almost like Romeo and Juliet though hopefully without us killing ourselves,” Izuku joked.
“I mean I can kill you both if you’d like,” Bakugo joked.
“Dark Shadow and I are both available as well,” Tokoyami quipped.
“Oh he’s got jokes now!” Jiro teased.
“I can offer a compelling one liner when the moment calls for it.”
“So Midoriya, any other amazing things you’ve blown money on?” Kaminari asked.
“I’ve been paying for Iida’s brother’s physical therapy as well. I knew the Iidas were going to make sure Tensei went to a good hospital, but I wanted him to have the best. So I set him up with a doctor in Alabama.”
“Oh yes, Dr. Campbell isn’t it? My father went there after he broke his back in a skiing accident two years ago. He’s very good,” Momo noted.
“He’s exceptional. Tensei is making great progress with him!”
“Okay, but what’s a selfish thing you’ve spent money on?” Jiro asked.
“This dinner,” Mario answered, handing Izuku the receipt for the meal.
Momo glanced at her boyfriend with a competitive look in her eyes.
Bakugo chuckled. “Oh no, I see where this is going.”
“Would anyone care for desert?” The rich girl asked.
“Look at the bill dear,” Izuku chuckled, holding out the receipt.
Two spaghettis with meat sauce - 5600 Yen.
One spaghetti with tomato sauce - 2300 Yen.
One medium pizza - 2800 Yen.
One steak - 3400 Yen.
Six drinks - 2760 Yen.
Six slices of ricotta cheesecake - 11,130 Yen.
Momo pursed her lips. This simply wouldn’t do. She would not be shown up by her boyfriend when this was supposed to be her treat.
“Would anyone like some ice cream to go with?”
