Chapter Text
Scott knew about soulmates. Supposedly, every vampire would get one somewhere in their immortal life. It was characterised by a mark of some sort that was mimicked on the other person in the same place. The other person could be a human, a vampire, or any of the other human-adjacent creatures that roamed the earth.
When Scott woke up in his tomb, he had what appeared to be a soulmate mark. It was a patch made of small spirals on the top of his shoulder. He couldn’t see how far it went, but it seemed to cover his collarbone and potentially part of his neck. It looked almost like a tattoo, but Scott didn’t know what those were. He did think it was quite pretty though.
His outfit covered most of his neck anyway, so he decided to ignore it. Scott figured he’d find the woman eventually. He hoped she would be a vampire, or alright with turning, because having a long-term human partner is impossible, at least with what Scott considered long-term. Being immortal did tend to warp your sense of time.
When he introduced himself to the town for the first time, there was a strange prickling sensation on the skin where his mark was. He passed it off as just being extra conscious of it, but the feeling persisted through most group situations. It was strange, but not necessarily alarming. He got used to it quickly, and it once again faded to the back of his mind.

Abolish had had his soulmate mark for as long as he’d been alive. There were paintings his adoptive father had commissioned from when he was an infant that showed it. It was something to be shown off, oohed and aahed at like he was some sort of freak. The hypnotising swirls to be admired by every third cousin that wasn’t even actually related to him.
Vampires were considered incredibly rare, even mythical, but he had learnt that they really weren't due to his line of work. That still didn’t affect the opinions of the masses that he was legally not allowed to correct. They probably wouldn’t believe him anyway.
The almost stinging, scratchy sensation on his soulmate mark was immediately picked up by Abolish. He only felt it in situations with basically all of the townspeople, but he managed to narrow it down in his small leather-bound notebook. He wrote down the names of everyone, and crossed it off once he was alone with them and could be sure they weren’t causing it.
It might be difficult, or even embarrassing depending on the person, to explain everything to the people of Oakhurst, but if he at least knew who one of the vampires were it would help his research. Plus, he could use the knowledge to keep himself and everyone safe from the individual.
He just had to make sure not to turn into another Avid and start shouting out names with no proof. It wouldn’t be hard, as he was socially anxious at best and would do anything to avoid drawing attention to himself.
Abolish was unsure how to feel about finally knowing who his soulmate was, but for now he was able to hide his emotions under the appealing guise of logic and duty.

Scott had settled into the town fairly well. There were people that didn’t like him, but there always was, and he was able to settle most people with his infallible charm. That Avid character was annoying, but he was getting along well with Shelby despite her strange opinions on the supernatural. Apparently, people with big feet were magical somehow?
They had started implementing a buddy system after a couple of interesting situations. It was really unnecessary, he was an elder vampire after all, but for weak little humans it probably made sense.
This time around, there was a group of eight going out to hunt for beacons. They were going to consecrate them, which was annoying for Scott, but he had to go along with it for the sake of appearing human. He longed for the moment he could abandon all of that and go on another murderous rampage like good old times.
He partnered up with the human who called himself ‘Abolish’. Scott didn’t mind the man, he was quiet, reserved and kept to himself. He didn’t seem as fun as Shelby, but at least he wasn’t ruining any of his plans. He claimed to be a butler, which fit quite well with his private nature. He was used to being ‘out of sight out of mind’, Scott assumed.
They walked together, with Scott flamboyantly chatting with the rest of the group and Abolish shuffling along next to him, in his own little world. Scott began to notice how the distance Abolish was from him affected the intensity of the soulmate mark. He grew suspicious, inching closer just as an experiment before stepping back.
After a while, the group started to disband. People decided it was getting late, or they wanted to finish off something back in the town. Somehow, it ended up as just Abolish and Scott. Scott turned to point this out, suggesting they go back home for the human's sake.
“Hey-” He had only said one syllable, but it made Abolish jump. Scott instinctively grabbed his wrist, getting pulled off the cliff they had both been standing on but the other man's weight.

Chapter Text
Abolish got partnered with Scott for the expedition. It wasn’t too bad, he was loud and a bit obnoxious, but he didn’t try to force Abolish to participate so he didn’t really mind. People talking was alright, as long as he wasn’t required to talk to them.
Scott stepped a little bit closer to avoid a bush and Abolish felt a jolt. His soulmate mark felt like it had been electrocuted. He tried to pretend it didn’t happen, but Scott did it again, and the same thing happened. Abolish felt like he was being violently jostled despite not being touched at all.
It was at that moment he realised the noble was a vampire, but more importantly his soulmate. What was he supposed to think about that? Oh god, what would all the people back at home think. His soulmate was a man. That was not just vaguely socially taboo, he had heard of people being burnt at the stake for it.
He could try and hide it, pretending everything was normal. That was probably the safest option. Why did this have to happen to him? He thought this was supposed to be a joyful, celebratory thing. Instead, he had learnt he was a disgusting, unnatural thing. Though vampires weren’t quite ‘natural’ either.
“Hey-” Abolish jumped, shocked by the sound and even more shocked by the feeling of falling. He hadn’t realized where they were. Scott grabbed his wrist with a shocking reaction time, presumably to stop him from falling, but got dragged down to.
When they hit the ground, Abolish released a screech of pain. He quickly tried to compose himself, biting his lip to stop himself from crying out again. It didn’t stop the muffled whimpers as he tried to check the leg he landed on. He usually had a pretty high pain tolerance, so it must have been bad.
“That looks nasty.” Scott said neutrally. He was stating a fact, not playing it up with sass which almost made it worse.
Abolish tried to respond, but all that came out was a pained hiss as he tried to position himself where he could look at the injury. He quickly gave up, lying on his stomach on the forest floor. Just the fact that he did this to himself was embarrassing, but how pathetic he was made it worse.

Scott didn’t know what to do. The fact that Abolish was in pain made him feel things he was going to have to process later, and he had no real way to help.
“I’m going to try and flip you over so you can look at it better, because I don’t really know anything about medicine.” He reached down, gingerly grabbing Abolish and helping him sit up. It was a little bit awkward, but they made it work.
They sat in silence for a moment, Abolish breathing heavily and Scott not breathing at all.
“You, really? Of all people to be stuck with.” Abolish said. It seemed a bit rude, but Scott could understand the sentiment. They weren’t the best of friends, and being stuck with a probably very broken leg with a stranger could be annoying.
“I can leave if you want.” Scott said with forced irritation. Really, that wasn’t even a viable option in his mind. He didn’t know why, but it felt wrong. Or perhaps he very much knew why and was vehemently denying it.
“No… don’t.” It hung in the air for far too long for either of their liking, before Abolish continued. “I think I’ll be fine to try and walk now.” He said it in a hesitant way, as if he wasn’t sure of it himself. He tried to hide the evident agony that attempted to twist his features as he attempted to at least kneel.
“No, you absolutely are not. Look at yourself. I’m going to go and find someone, hopefully the doctor, and you are going to stay absolutely still.” He turned on his heel and left, but not before seeing the subtle look of dismay on Abolish’s face.

Abolish fought against the feeling of abandonment that suddenly overcame him. There was no reason for it, going to find the doctor was a very smart idea. The soulmate thing was messing with his head. His instincts were wrong. Scott was probably going to come back anyway, and if he didn’t Abolish should feel angry not sad.
He needed to pull himself together before anyone saw him. He was stronger than this, he could resist making a fool of himself for the sake of his reputation, his job and most importantly his life. Imagine what his parents would think of him right now.
“Abolish!” Yelled the familiar voice of Legundo.
“I’m over here!” Abolish yelled back, proud that he kept himself from making any humiliating sounds.
The doctor poked him and prodded him, trying to figure out the best plan. Scott stood by awkwardly, clearly having no idea what was going on. Of course he wouldn’t, he was a vampire, immune to all injuries and illnesses except for a stake through the heart.
They figured out a temporary splint, and the uninjured men took turns carrying Abolish home. Scott pretended to get tired and had to swap over but Abolish could feel no exhaustion in the strong arms that carried him. The fact that he was close enough to Scott to know that made his heart flip like a middle school girl. It was absurd.

Chapter Text
Scott really wanted to go check on Abolish. He had heard from the doc that he was healing fine, but something made him want to make sure. The same part of him that wanted to hold and protect him. He was definitely his soulmate, though he would never tell that to another soul. The question was whether Abolish knew it.
Probing around the village, it seemed like soulmates nowadays were something reserved for novels and ‘fanfiction’. He still didn’t understand what the latter was, but Shelby liked talking about it for some reason. Of course, he couldn’t ask too explicitly because that would be perceived as weird. Not that he wasn’t already perceived as strange, but this was different.
He had planned to go on a walk to clear his head, but he had ended up right outside Abolish’s house. It was a simple wooden peasant abode with a cobblestone roof. Scott was embarrassed to see it wasn’t actually much uglier than his and Shelby’s.
Scott knocked five times in a little rhythm. Abolish responded, seemingly from upstairs, giving him permission to enter. He did and observed there was basically nothing inside the house. It was only an exterior at the moment.
He climbed the poorly made wooden ladder up into the attic where Abolish sat on the floor. He was reading a book, which disappeared as he finished it.
“Can I test something?” Scott was curious as to what the human wanted to try.
“Sure, why not.” Abolish seemed to focus for a second, before what looked like flour filled the room. Scott tried to move; to cover his mouth or take a step back or anything but he was frozen in place. It was strange. He could still speak though, and quite violently asked Abolish what was going on.
“It’s an ability from one of the books in the crypt. It is supposed to stop vampires from moving but also makes you immune to damage. It’s less useful for actual fighting and more for if you need to run away.” Scott was surprised by the succinct, tactical explanation. He wondered if Abolish had some sort of fighting background. Then he realised something.
“You’re not surprised I’m a vampire?” He was expecting a little bit of skepticism, after all he didn’t give him the same vibes as Shelby or Avid.
“I already knew.” He tapped the base of his neck, where he supposedly had the same markings as Scott. The fact he knew that it related to vampirism meant they could skip a lot of tedious explanation and disbelief.
“So, are we planning on talking about it…?” Scott asked. He really didn’t know how he expected this conversation to pan out.
“It is simply a biological thing that is out of our control. We don’t have to do anything about it.” Oh. That was… disappointing. Funnily enough, Abolish looked thoroughly disappointed as well.
“Do you want to not do anything about it?” Scott asked. Abolish nodded vigorously, but his expression betrayed him. Scott took it as he said it, and was not going to push him. Why was he being so kind and considerate? Still, he hung around a bit more and tried to discuss other things until the conversation grew stale.
Then, he left and tried to forget about all of it.

“Do you want to not do anything about it?” Scott had asked. Abolish had refused, because he knew it wasn’t him. It was just the soulmate stuff messing with his head. He was not gay, he was not interested in Scott, he was not interested in any man.
But how he had looked at him when he shook his head almost made him give in. His beautiful hair, his sad eyes- Abolish shouldn't even be thinking about it. Thinking about it made him want it and wanting it made him weak. Having someone who was willing to be with him when he so wanted to be with them made it almost impossible to deny.
Sitting in his house by himself with nothing else to think about was driving him insane. He told Legundo about it. Well, not the bit about thinking about Scott, but the rest of it. The doc decided to send people to hang out with him during the day, because he couldn’t do any of the inviting himself from his house.
It was pretty good. He had a long talk with Apo about her time in the military and played cards with Cleo and Pearl. Then, during the fourth week of his recovery, the one person he somehow wanted to see most and least at the same time did his signature knock.

Scott was anxious about going to see Abolish. The doctor absolutely insisted, no matter what excuse Scott came up with. He decided it wouldn’t hurt that much; he could just leave if he didn’t want him to be there. That was probably the most likely outcome. It was hilarious. This was probably more fear than Scott had felt in his entire life, combined. Over someone who insisted he didn’t want him.
Where was the confidence that had been there when he turned Pyro just the night before. He had held a screaming man under the water and taken his life from him. He had felt like a god. What right did this man have to strip it from him without even saying anything? Why was he letting him?
He knocked and received no reply. He was just about to leave, maybe go try out that fishing idea he had, when a quiet voice instructed him to come in.
Abolish was sitting on the ground, reading a book. There was a small pile of books next to him, all with different intriguing titles. Apart from that, the room was just as barren as it was before, seeing as Abolish couldn’t really move a lot of furniture when he couldn’t even stand.
Abolish invited Scott to sit next to him, passing him a book. They read silently together, all the tension evaporating from the room.

Chapter Text
Abolish was too tired to fight himself about Scott. The pain in his leg had flared up, and it had been impossible to sleep. The doctor did have pain medication, but it made him feel nauseous and he didn’t trust any of the mushrooms the doc was picking up in the woods.
Instead, he beckoned for the elder vampire to sit next to him and passed him a random book that was on the pile he had been working through. He was trying to do something semi-productive with all the time he had on his hands recently.
He scooted slightly closer to Scott, relishing in the way his mere presence seemed to cleanse him of all his pain. He wanted to do even more, but he had a little bit of self-control left somewhere in his head.
The tiredness caught up to him as the pain faded, and his eyes were no longer able to focus on the letters and symbols on the pages. Then he started to feel lightheaded, and knew he was slipping away.
Finally, he slumped against Scott’s shoulder.

Scott was surprised when Abolish suddenly collapsed against him like a ragdoll. He hadn’t even noticed that the man had gotten close enough to him to actually touch his shoulder.
His head leant against the fabric above his soulmate mark and every hair on his body stood on end. Abolish was five or six inches taller than him, so it was easy for him to comfortably tuck his head into the nook between Scott's neck and shoulder.
Scott was almost vibrating with barely contained joy. The only reason he didn’t move is he didn’t want to wake Abolish up, but he doubted he could with how quickly the human had fallen unconscious.
Abolish mumbled in his sleep. Something about ‘Reiah and Alaric’. Scott’s name is muttered several times too. It seemed to be a happy dream, but he can’t really tell. What goes on inside Abolish’s head, he wonders.
Abolish looks so beautiful in his sleep. Scott had never seen anyone so beautiful. Was it just his soulmate mark ‘messing with his head’ as Abolish put it? Did he care? Was he capable of caring when Abolish’s silky black hair tickled his neck?
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and Abolish’s eyes snapped open.

Abolish’s eyes snapped open to discover he was lying against Scott’s shoulder. It feels really good. He doesn’t want to move, so pretends to be asleep to avoid the embarrassment.
“I know you're awake. You’re blushing like crazy.” That made Abolish blush more, and Scott chuckled. That only served to remind him how close they were, which did not help.
“Did you know you talk in your sleep?” Oh god. What did he say?
“What-” His voice cut out. “What did I say?”
“Nothing incriminating, don’t worry. I think you were talking about your parents, or maybe grandparents?” That wasn’t as bad as it could have been. He breathed a sigh of relief.
“Hmm… How's your leg doing?” Abolish was glad Scott didn’t try to embarrass him further. He might have just ceased to exist. Also, his leg surprisingly wasn’t in any pain.
“It-It’s,” He cleared his throat, trying to stop the stuttering, “It’s doing fine a-actually.” He hated how the closeness stopped his throat from working properly.
“That’s good to hear.” He started to move away and Abolish grabbed his shirt to stop him from doing so.
They both stared wide eyed at each other, before Scott started laughing. Abolish was mortified. He let himself be pulled into a much tighter, somehow closer embrace, which only served to short-circuit his brain more. Where was his professionalism? Why was he clinging to a vampire like his life depends on it?
Suddenly, Scott flinched. Abolish did too, freezing against his chest.
“As much as I love this, I need to go.” There was a sense of finality in those words but Abolish still asked.
“Why? Did something happen?”
“There’s a new vampire.” He got up, leaving Abolish in a puddle of the ground.
“What? Are there multiple vampires? How ma…” He trailed off. Scott was already gone. All the events of the past hour or so caught up to him. He fell asleep against Scott, then willingly cuddled with him for a ridiculous amount of time. What was going on in his brain?

Scott regretted leaving Abolish. It turned out that Pyro had turned Shelby, with the help of Owen. Though he would have rather been the one to turn her, seeing that she was his roommate, it didn’t really matter in the end. She was always going to be turned sooner or later.
His interactions with Abolish, however, were a lot more interesting. There was no denying that they were both in far too deep now. Scott still didn’t want to rush Abolish or do anything he didn’t want. It was difficult, and he didn’t know how it was supposed to work because he had never felt anything like it before.
It was mostly due to the fact that it wasn’t considered proper for two men to date. At most he could look from a distance, but he thought he was above even that. It was also due to the fact that, supposedly, soulmates were meant to feel love quicker and more of it. He thought it was silly at some points in his life but definitely believed in that now.
He had also dated women, flirting and holding the hands of the hundreds that would tell him anything in exchange for a drop of power or status. It wasn’t anything like what Abolish made him feel. What was going on?
Notes:
I have just rewatched Abolish's first episode and realised how thoroughly out of character he is. I'm just gonna say the soulmates thing is making him act different lol
Chapter Text
Abolish was glad to be finally able to do things again. The doctor had been shocked at how his leg had suddenly healed, and Abolish had to pretend to be just as in the dark about this medical miracle. He knew it related to his… interaction with Scott, but how or why was a complete mystery. Was that a soulmate thing? Or was it a Scott thing? He could ask, but he was determined to avoid him for the time being. He had learnt he wasn’t able to control himself, and was not going to take chances.
Avid had decided that the reason Abolish’s leg had healed was because he had become a vampire. That was very much not true, Abolish would have certainly remembered that, but he spent most of the day being watched by the irritating fearmonger and going through not-so-subtle ‘tests’ to see if he was indeed a vampire.
Scott was giving him distance, but Abolish still saw him more than he wanted to. It was just the same amount as he saw the other townspeople, but it stuck out to Abolish. He started to avoid town more, going on longer expeditions out to the beacons. Eventually, with a lot of help from all the humans in the village, all the beacons were consecrated.
Abolish hadn’t even considered the consequences of this when he found a familiar face.

Scott had felt it when the beacons all turned holy. He was fine one second, and undeniably weak the next. It felt like being punched in the stomach, but everywhere all at once. His eyes became heavy, and all he wanted to do was sleep.
He couldn’t though, he needed to get to one of the beacons where the countdown would have ended so he could deconcentrate it. The younger vampires were probably faring even worse than he was.
Then out of the blue, Abolish appeared. He seemed shocked, and Scott realised this was the first time he would have gotten a proper look at him since he reached level two earlier the other day. Also he probably looked terrible due to how weak he was right now.
Abolish ran over to him, and Scott had to resist falling over.
“Are you alright?” He asked, his arms hovering a couple inches from Scott as if he expected him to fall over any second. He used a sense of faux calm that Scott could see straight through. You didn’t manipulate people for centuries to be convinced by simple facades.
“Yes, I’m fine. The beacons…” The shakiness in Scott’s voice and inability to continue talking proved the opposite of what he was saying. Abolish seemed to understand what was going on, and started to walk in the direction of the lake.
Scott followed, stumbling easily, legs shaking. Abolish looked at him like he was considering just abandoning him, but ended up coming to Scott’s side and looping his arm under Scott’s. He helped him walk all the way to the tower. It was only about fifteen minutes, it would probably be five if Scott wasn’t struggling so much just to move his legs forward one after another.

Abolish had wanted to be able to leave Scott, let him lie there on the forest floor alone, but it was impossible. His mind refused to accept that as even a possibility.
He looped his arm under Scott’s, slightly awkwardly due to the height difference. Scott staggered like a newborn deer, which was incredibly strange due to the vampire's usual confidence and good posture. (When did he notice Scott’s posture?)
When they got to the beacon, Scott desecrated it. Abolish indicated for them to get out, as he didn’t want to be caught by his fellow humans. He could have a lot of explaining to do, and he still wasn’t sure how to explain it to himself.
Scott seemed to be a lot stronger, but still a little bit shaken. It made Abolish glad, but also a bit… not scared exactly? His heart had full confidence that he would not hurt him, that he was not even capable of such things, but his brain knew logically that he could be in danger. Though, if Scott was dealing with all of the same conflicting things as he was, he probably wouldn’t be physically able to harm him. That was an interesting thought.

Chapter Text
Scott was unsure what to think of his new situation. He thought back to what had happened when he and Abolish had reached town.
“You were the only people not in Oakhurst when the beacon changed!” Avid yelled. He seemed more happy than angry or betrayed, poorly concealing his smile. His vampire obsession had been validated, in a sense. Unfortunately, he had been wrong about Abolish but there was no way to prove that. Even if they did, no one would trust the man who had willingly worked with a vampire.
Scott had convinced Abolish to come with him to his old castle. It had been his plan to rebuild the ruins for a while, but not under these exact circumstances. It could be worse though. Owen, Shelby and Pyro were still in town, and had some influence. Perhaps once the castle was a bit more intact the coven could be together again.
Abolish had been very quiet, often lost in thought. Scott knew why, but didn’t know how to help. He was often out in the woods until late, and refused to give any explanation on where he had gone. Scott was never very good with emotions, and upsetting Abolish wouldn’t aid the situation. He was still willingly helping with the castle, so Scott could excusably try and talk to him.

Abolish felt strange. He was close to Scott almost constantly. It was an awkward forced proximity situation. Except it sort of wasn’t. He could leave, Scott wasn’t forcing him to do anything.
There was the possibility of him going somewhere else, literally anywhere in the vast woods that surrounded Oakhurst. He could continue looking for the cure books without feeling the illogically extreme guilt of lying to Scott. He could fulfill his job, do what he needs to, then leave again.
Who was he kidding? He felt undeniably wrong just thinking of abandoning him. Leaving behind his soulmate for some stupid institute task that he had been assigned by a supervisor that didn’t even remember his name.
There was nothing that could make his heart rate stop skyrocketing whenever Scott wasn’t at the castle after he got back. There was no reason that could stop him from blushing whenever Scott got a little bit too close. There was not an explanation that could prevent him from staring when Scott flashed his fangs in an adorable little smile.

“I’m fine, it’s just… weird. Everyone thinks I’m a vampire and there's whatever is going on here.” He gestured to the hand still on his wrist and where his soulmate mark would be.
Scott realised he had never seen the mark before. He used his hand to move Abolish’s collar aside slightly, just so he could see a bit of it. The swirls mirrored his own in such a perfect way. Abolish shivered when Scott touched his soulmate mark. It brought out something in him, something new and possessive that curled inside him. He didn’t want anyone else to touch that part of him, ever.

Abolish was stunned when Scott reached out and pulled at the top of his shirt. He couldn’t help but stare at the immaculate nails that slowly and carefully brushed down his neck. They were razor sharp but undeniably gentle, and the caress made him shiver involuntarily. Something passed over Scott's face that Abolish couldn’t even begin to decipher. Usually he could understand someone's motives and emotions with just a couple seconds of looking at them, but at this moment it was impossible.
Scott pulled away, and Abolish immediately felt it. Scott noticed his inner turmoil and leaned back in to kiss him on the cheek. It was barely a tap, a flutter of cold, dead skin against his, but it felt like so much more. They stared at each other for a long, heavy moment.
“Do you want me to kiss you?” Scott asked. Oh god, why did he have to ask? It made it so much more obvious how desperate he was. Despite the embarrassment, he nodded.
Scott pinned him against a half-built stone wall. Abolish felt the back of his skull vibrate, a mild throbbing starting. He fully ignored it, because the pleasure outweighed the pain a thousand fold. It was rough and intense, Scott taking the lead while Abolish just let himself float through the haze of suffering and ecstacy.
Scott finally moved his lips away. Abolish let out a needy whine, unable to stop himself. It was similar to the time he had been given experimental medicine by the organisation, body limb and panting, mind too far away for him to reel himself in. Scott caressed Abolish’s face and he moved against Scott freely. No restraint no carefully considered response. His mind had turned to mush.

“Do you want me to kiss you?” Scott asked. He didn’t want to ask, wanted to just do it. His last frayed strands of self-control were snapping by the minute. If Abolish said no, he wasn’t sure what he would do. Luckily, he didn’t have to figure that out because Abolish nodded almost instantly.
Scott lashed out, animalistic, feral. He smashed Abolish’s skull against a wall he had planned to finish before he found more… interesting things to do with his time. Something in him disliked that he was hurting Abolish, but it was easily calmed by the way Abolish reacted to what was happening.
His head rolled back, and his eyes glazed over. He grew weak in Scott’s grasp, letting out beautiful little noises that were music to Scott’s ears. He wanted to pull more of those out of him, hear them forever.
After a very long time Scott moved away. He would have gone on for all of eternity but Abolish had started to turn blue from the lack of air. Abolish didn’t even seem to notice, letting out a quiet noise of disappointment.
Scott tucked Abolish’s hair behind his ear, and he nuzzled against Scott’s hand. It was adorable, so Scott kept going with the careful touches. Abolish’s usual awkward restrained shyness seemed to have left the room, and he was acting almost like a housecat. The fact that Scott had done this to Abolish… he didn’t know how he felt.
Eventually they sank to the ground together, Abolish gladly drifting off with his head in Scott’s lap.
Notes:
This got surprisingly kinky given that they are basically just making out. Abolish is going to be a disaster after all this. He will still not accept himself for a long time hehehehehe

This one took a while. I have written a bunch of scenes that I think are cool, but I have no idea where to slot them in, so the story makes some semblance of sense.

Chapter Text
Abolish’s brain was splitting in half. He was lying in Scott’s lap which felt so incredibly, amazingly good, but he still hated it with a very different part of his brain. A part of his brain that was surprisingly small, and almost as easy to make submit as Abolish the night before.
He had not expected himself to act anything like how he did. His training and missions had taken up so much time in his life that he had no time for cuddling or kissing or any of the things Abolish had done with Scott. What he had enjoyed surprised him. Honestly, he believed at this point he would like anything Scott did to him.
Abolish opened his eyes finally and looked up at Scott. He was looking out at the forest but immediately turned his attention to Abolish. Abolish was suddenly frozen in place, eyes wide and body refusing to move.
“Are you alright?” It seemed strange that Scott was asking such a kind, genuine question after practically throwing him against a brick wall and then metaphorically turning him inside out.
“You threw me against a wall.” Abolish replied, a short, concise, and surprising stutter-free response.
“I’m pretty sure you liked it.” He raised an eyebrow. Abolish did not elect to dignify the statement with a response. “Does it still hurt?”
Somehow, it didn't. By all logic, Abolish should’ve been nursing at least a mild headache, but he would’ve written the whole thing off as a dream if Scott hadn’t verbally confirmed what happened. It made no sense, but nothing seems to make sense nowadays.
“No, it doesn’t.” Abolish was proud of not stuttering or making any stupid mistakes. Scott seemed to hate the idea of Abolish not making a fool of himself and started playing with his hair, pulling in just the right way to make Abolish melt.
“Do you know why that is? I have never heard of a human’s injuries healing this fast under any circumstances.” Abolish mentally prepared himself for a moment before giving an answer.
“I don’t know. I haven’t encountered anything like it myself.” Another clear, coherent answer. Three for three today, he was doing great.
Scott brushed Abolish’s lips with his hand, leaving a strange, tingling sensation in their wake. It was very clear it was on purpose now.

“Why are you so insistent on trying to make me stutter?” Scott had no idea. He did let up though and Abolish put a bit of distance between them. Scott really wanted to grab him and drag him back over, but he didn’t. Abolish was allowed to want space.
“Are you going to run off into the woods mysteriously today?” Abolish looked down.
“Yes…” He seemed hesitant. “Is that alright? I can stay and help with the castle if you want?”
Scott would have preferred him to stay, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. He could work on the castle by himself. He told Abolish to go with one last flirtatious smile before he headed to the ballroom. He wanted to finish decorating the interior to make it properly up to his standards.
“Hey Scott, can I ask you something?” Shelby asked, poking her head into the just completed ballroom.
“Yeah, sure.” Scott was curious as to what she wanted to ask, because she seemed a little bit nervous. It was out of character for her usually.
“Umm… so this mark appeared on my ear and I don’t know what it means? Is it a vampire thing?” She pulled her ear down, revealing a little flower. It was stark black against her incredibly pale third-level skin. It was quite clearly a soulmate mark.
“It’s a soulmate mark. All vampires get one at some point in their life. You’re lucky to have gotten one so early on.” She really was. Scott had waited almost twelve hundred years to get one himself. He did not want to think about that right now, because he knew he would get too distracted, so he focused back on Shelby.
“How do you know who your soulmate is?”
“Well, they have the same mark as you, and you can also sort of feel it.” Shelby’s face immediately shifted, and Scott felt he had made a mistake.
“How would you know? Have you met your soulmate?” She seemed giddy at the idea. Scott reckoned this was going to go into one of her fanfiction in the near future. He still didn’t get what that was, but she liked it.
“Perhaps. I don’t think that’s any of your business.” For some reason, Scott felt strange at the idea of saying he hadn’t met Abolish. It really didn’t help him though, because Shelby was spurred on at the rejection.
“Who is it? Is it someone in town? Wait, is it Abolish?” Scott was shocked at how quickly she had figured it out, and his lack of a quick, witty response sent Shelby into a fit of giggles.
“Awwww that's so cute!” She jumped up and down, flapping her arms like a possessed bird.
“Stop that!” Scott said, but he was smiling too. “If you tell Owen or Pyro, I will stake you.”
“Alright!” She ran off, squealing and saying something about her notebook. She was going to have an absolute field day with all this.

Chapter Text
Abolish jumped down into the crypt, quickly and efficiently looking at the book in the chest at the end of the passageway. It was Holy Word, a book he already had. In fact, he had used it on Scott at one point. He left it in the chest and turned to leave.
Abolish was making good pace that day, having already gone through four crypts in search of cure books. He wanted to get back to the castle by midday. He pretended it was because he personally wanted the castle to be finished, but really he wanted to help Scott. Even if he said he was fine with Abolish not being there, it was clear that under the surface it wasn’t really the case.
Out of nowhere, a group of townspeople jumped down into the crypt. They immediately started shouting and moving and it was overwhelming for Abolish. He made a run for it, trying to get to the water elevator before he could get boxed in. He scolded himself, he should have been more cautious going into the enclosed space.
He escaped, but not without a lot of cuts and bruises. Someone even threw a bottle of holy water at him, something new that Pyro had warned the vampires about. Of course, it was fully ineffective on Abolish.
Abolish ran all the way to the castle, barely stopping even to catch his breath. He was usually pretty good at long distance running, but this was a lot for him. Especially when he was bleeding from dozens of places all over his body. What was it his mentor used to say? Death by a thousand cuts.
When he collapsed at the front door of the castle, it was all he could do to stop himself from passing out. Scott was there in an instant, and it immediately made him feel much better. He was guided inside and sat at a large dining table he didn’t recognise. Scott must have added it today. Speaking of Scott, he disappeared instantly after Abolish sat down, leaving Abolish panting and alone in a massive room that reminded him a surprising amount of his childhood.

Scott grabbed some random old moth-eaten blankets that had barely survived his six hundred year nap. The fact that even tatters remained was extraordinary, but something to think about later. He quickly wrapped up the most egregious wounds and left the ones that just looked like scrapes to heal on their own.
He sat across from Abolish, delicately folding his hands and intentionally stopping himself from staring. Abolish had decided to come to Scott and not run away, he was not going to ruin it. Abolish willingly being so vulnerable around Scott made him feel warm and tingly inside, different from the compulsive lust he so often experienced.
It still confused him how different this was to the attraction he had felt for others. This was more similar to his vampiric bloodlust, a constant insatiable need as opposed to a passive want that was often quick to pass. Thinking of blood made him thirsty so he drank a bottle he had saved while hunting, fully aware of the beautiful cocoa powder eyes that watched him from across the room.

Abolish felt weak. It was all that he could think about while he sat pathetic in a grand wooden chair being tended to by someone with more strength than he would ever have. Powerless, useless, fragile, delicate. He didn’t want to be all of those things, but he was.
Then, an idea came to mind. It was a little seed of a proposal that quickly took root in his mind, growing and spreading until it began to perhaps seem reasonable. He watched Scott while he thought, the man casually drinking a bottle of blood. It was probably animal blood, a cow or pig or chicken. It was kind of - he was not going to go there.
The important thing was that vampires don’t have to drink human blood. He had heard Scott talk about human blood like it was a rare delicacy, but humans often lived their entire lives off bread and cheese. Abolish figured it was similar, and he was not a nobleman like Scott. He could live without luxuries.
Finally, he asked the question that had been stirring in his mind for the past half an hour.
“Scott, c-can you turn me?” His stutter was back again, mind immediately regretting the question. Thinking of all the negative consequences once he got home to the organisation. Just knowing who his soulmate was would create enough absurdly tedious paperwork.
“I would love to.” He said, flashing his fangs. “But only if you truly want to.”
“You didn’t need permission for Pyro or Shelby, why do you need it for me?” Abolish wanted to know how far the forced loyalty went.
“I think you know why I need permission from you specifically. You're special to me.” Abolish’s heart lit up what it considered praise, but he knew it wasn’t necessarily. He was a unique case for Scott, a different scenario he had to work around. Even that made him happy though, which was a bit stupid but Abolish couldn’t control it.
“Alright… I’m sure I want you to turn me.”
Notes:
Do y'all like the metaphors I used? I think they're pretty good. Also, Abolish is finally going to get turned! I wanted to make it his decision not something that was forced on him or even heavily suggested, so I think I did okay.

Chapter Text
At the second confirmation, Scott sunk his teeth into the base of Abolish’s neck. He normally wouldn’t go there as it wasn’t the most convenient spot to bite or the most efficient for turning. The soulmate mark was there though, which made it feel more special compared to all the other random people he had turned.
The vampiric venom spread through his veins, triggering the signal that would alert all the other vampires to the new member of the coven. Scott expected Pyro, Shelby and Owen to be here soon so he kept it only as long as necessary. He did take a moment to leave a lingering kiss over the rapidly healing wound, despite his want for quickness.
“W-was that really nes-necessary?” Abolish asked after taking a moment to recover from the shock of it all. Scott knew it wasn’t, but his reaction made it fully worth it.
Abolish’s previously pristine white clothes were stained with his blood. Scott took a moment to scold himself for his messiness, but at least it was cheap peasant clothes and not any of his outfits. Scott made a mental note to get Abolish some better clothes when they had the chance.
Just as he was thinking about this, Owen burst in. He didn’t even bother to close the doors behind him, just strutting right into the center of the space like he owned it.
“Oh of course it’s Abolish. Shelby actually got something right for once. I guess if he was living here anyway he may as well be one of us properly. We need to get Pyro in here before he starts freaking out and screws stuff up even more.” He calmed down towards the end, going back to his regular brooding persona.
“What has Pyro screwed up?” Scott asked, worried about what the fledgling had done. It was good that Owen was here at least, because the fledgling would never tell Scott willingly. That was the only problem about him being so desperate for positive validation.
“Ugh, Pyro ‘accidentally’ announced to at least four people that he could sense that someone had been turned which of course sent people into a frenzy. By now the entire town probably knows he’s a vampire which blows all of Shelby and I’s alibis from the past few weeks.” Scott sighed. That was just as much as he expected from Pyro.
“Oh well, I guess we’ll have a couple more people moving in. Also Shelby, you know you are allowed to join us.” Shelby materialized in a corner, seeming slightly sheepish. Owen jumped a little before quickly regaining his composure, seemingly thinking no one noticed.
“Owen, can you go find Pyro,” Scott pinched the bridge of his nose as Owen turned into a bat in the most dramatic way possible. “Shelby you come help me with Abolish he looks two seconds away from passing out.”
Abolish indeed was looking incredibly pale, not just from his new lack of blood. Normally, he should look fully human until he drank enough blood to reach stage two, but something seemed to be wrong. Scott was concerned.

Abolish felt wrong. There was a surge of sounds and visuals and sensations that were overwhelming. He started to disassociate, his mind trying to stop the pain by drowning out the conversation around him. He was still aware that there was some sort of talking, it was just distant and fuzzy.
He tried to focus on his breathing as his instructor used to tell him to whenever he would get overstimulated at events. It felt wrong though, now dead lugs refusing to co-operate with him. There were no bodily sensations to focus on, no heartbeat or breathing or ringing in the ears to center his mind.
It continued like this until a reassuring hand pressed against his shoulders. The simple pressure grounded him and brought him back to reality, where a concerned Scott stood over him and an equally as disturbed Shelby stood slightly farther away.
“Are you alright?” Abolish wasn’t really sure. He answered confidently anyway.
“Yeah, I-I’m good.” His voice was shaky in a way that proved he really wasn’t.
“What’s wrong?” It was too loud. Abolish could somehow hear Shelby fidgeting with the fabric of her top, and a bird somewhere he knew was in the distance but felt far too close.
“It’s t-too loud. I…” Scott seemed to understand. He grabbed Abolish by the hand and helped him get up. He motioned for Shelby to follow him and the three of them left out the back of the back of the castle.

Scott knew where to go when Abolish said it was too loud. It was a peaceful spot in the forest, a small clearing far from the town. No one bothered to come out there, because it was far from anything of importance. They were all alone, in silence.
While vampirism did increase hearing, it was usually not to the degree to overwhelm new fledglings. Maybe Abolish had been made extra sensitive, or maybe he had some sort of hearing issue that was fixed when he accepted the gift. It didn’t really matter, and it was pretty much impossible to tell now.
Abolish seemed to have calmed down after a while, and was now talking quietly to Shelby. Scott could have eavesdropped if he wanted, but he didn’t really care to, content with his spot a little bit farther from the group.
Eventually Shelby left. As soon as it was just Scott and Abolish, he took the opportunity to get closer to Abolish. Abolish didn’t object, leaning into the cuddles. It was sweet how he tried to pretend to be stoic and serious even though Scott knew how easy it was to break the facade.
Scott pressed small kisses to Abolish’s forehead, pleased with the small amount of blush that coloured his cheeks. He clearly wanted Scott to work for it, because he kept a straight face. When had he gotten so good at that? Before he was ruined by just a kiss.
“What are you smirking about?” Abolish asked. Scott raised an eyebrow.
“You're acting awful high and mighty for someone who’s very vulnerable right now.” That made Abolish smirk in return
He semi-tackled Scott, flipping him over and forcing him into his arms. His new vampirism made him stronger than he usually would be, which shocked Scott. That combined with the fact that Abolish had always been taller than Scott allowed him to be forced into his lap.
Scott leaned forward for a kiss, and all was right in the world.
Notes:
I feel like I might have made it a bit confusing with the movements and the pronoun ownership near the end, IDK we should all just use sign language from now on.

Chapter Text
Abolish loved the spot that Scott had taken them. It was peaceful and serene but most importantly it was quiet. Shelby sat with him on the forest floor, with Scott a bit further away perched on a rock.
Abolish ran his fingers along the smooth, flawless skin of his hand. All of his scars were gone. They used to be a tapestry of his lowest points, times where he had felt the need to cut himself to regain some semblance of control. Now it was just… nothing. He had thought he hated them, but now that they weren’t there he felt hollow.
They had become a part of him in a sense. They told a story of his life, reminded him what he had gone through and what he was working towards. After all, it was hard to appreciate the highs if you forget about the lows.
“How are you going?” Shelby asked in a hushed whisper. She seemed to have infinite kindness and no capacity for judgement. It was a miracle she wasn’t everyone's best friend.
“I’m fine now.’ Shelby seemed incredibly skeptical. “I am, really.”
“Alright. If you’re really okay and I mean really truly alright, I might go now. Leave you alone with Scott for a bit.” She smiled mischievously at the last few words, making Abolish wonder for a moment how much she knew.
He didn’t have a lot of time to think about it, because Scott immediately came over to grab him. Abolish melted immediately, but at the last second decided to play it coy. He kept a straight face intentionally, making a game of it.
Scott seemed to either hate or love the idea, because he gently peppered kisses against his forehead. Abolish could feel himself blush but kept the facade going. It was a joke at this point with how Abolish snuggled up to Scott.
Randomly, Scott started smirking as if he had thought about something funny.
“What are you smirking about?” Abolish asked. Scott raised an eyebrow dramatically.
“You're acting awful high and mighty for someone who’s very vulnerable right now.” That gave Abolish a silly idea, and he decided to go with it.
He pulled Scott backwards, then flipped him and dragged him into a seated position. Scott seemed shocked for a second at his new position in Abolish’s lap, before laughing and leaning forward for a kiss. Abolish wanted it to be like this forever.
Notes:
Okay, so I might be putting this fic on hold for a bit because I have run out of ideas for the story right now. I will revisit, but if you want to guarantee that it will be sometime soon suggest cool things I can add in the comments. I am open to pretty much anything as long as it fits in the cannon so far and is PG13.
