Down By the Laboratory

Summary:

Keiko Suzuki is a new student at Eden Academy. But something is off with her. Well, that's what Damian has been TRYING to tell everyone. But of course, everyone is so caught up in her family's fame they don't think to look what's underneath.

Notes:

KEEP IN MIND: The characters are 10-11 in this, which means no intimacy or sexual moments. Sorry! Also, Keiko is an original character meaning she is NOT in the anime/manga.
My writing sucks but try to keep up okay!

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Birthday

Chapter Text

Anya's alarm clock rang and she quickly jumped out of bed before Loid could come and wake her. It was 6:30, which gave Anya plenty of time to get ready, brush her teeth, and eat whatever meal was thrown on the table for her. Adrenaline rushed through her body in excitement. Today was the day that she turned 11! Well, not really. To everyone else, sure. But in reality, Anya was only turning 10.

Within minutes, she had brushed her teeth, changed her clothes, and styled her hair a bit differently than usual. Her hair was out, but there were two pigtails sticking out at the back of her hair, a hairstyle her best friend, Becky Blackbell, had taught her to do at one of their many sleepovers.

She sat at the table excitedly, and started scoffing down the omlette in front of her.

"Why are you so cheerful today?" Loid questioned, pouring orange juice in the glass Infront of her. Yor had been working late that night, so she wasn't expected to be up just yet.

Anya swung her legs on the chair, excitement rushing through her veins.

"Today is Anya's birthday!" She replied, picking at her vegetables. The green critters were the only thing getting in the way of Anya's "perfect" day.

Loid looked at Anya, his hand continuing to pour the orange juice until it overflowed in the glass. Anya looked up and tilted her head at the one she called 'Papa'. Sure, he was a spy, and sure, he was quite an oddball, but she loved him nonetheless.

A million thoughts flew through Loads head, and Anya could only catch a few.

'it's her what?!'

'how could I forget?!'

'i gotta keep the perfect family picture and plan something for the weekend!'

Anya's head started spinning and her face went slightly green. She had always felt sick when reading people's mind, since the young age of 3, but as the years flew by, she felt the nausea and headaches disappear. That was, unless it was a crowd, or there were to many thoughts in one person for Anya to actually process bit by bit.

Loid took notice of her green face and quickly put the orange juice down to check on his 'daughter'.

"Anya?" He asked in a soft voice. Anya could hear him, of course, but if he heard her voice, it would probably reassure him that she was truly okay.

Anya held up her thumbs, signalling that she was fine. Loid suggetsted that he would eat her vegetables instead, and that she should start heading out if she wanted to catch the bus.

As Anya made her way out, she excitedly thought of whatever her dad had planned for her. She skipped and imagined scenarios where she was eating dinner at a fancy restaurant, that served only peanuts, a cruise ship (almost identical to Lorelei), that had all the playground equipment a kid could ask for, and maybe even a spy mission that involved world peace? She entered the bus and swung her feet as she sat on the seat, still imagining these scenarios.

She then remembered she was headed at school, and started plotting on how she would grab Sy-on boy's attention. She didn't necessarily *need* his attention, but it was needed to restore world peace.

Anya spent the entire bus journey thinking about her birthday, and plans to become friends with Damian, that she didn't realise the bus stopped, until she heard the sound of the doors opening. She quickly ran off the bus and thanked the driver, before turning to the large gates of Eden College.

She felt that today was going to be a great day.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Sprinting away

Chapter Text

I ran. I ran as fast as I could. I turned corners and when I slipped, I stood back up and carried on running. I turned the corner and quickly shoved open the door, the light hit me like a bullet in the eyes, shining so bright I almost hesitated to leave, Almost.

I started running on the pavement, even though my bare feet hitting the prickly pavement hurt me so badly I tripped and scrapped my cheek. And even though I knew they would catch up.

As I ran, I noticed a road, cars dashed across it and it was so busy on the pavement I lost all hope in escaping the prison I had spent my entire life in. Then, I bumped into her. She had beautiful greyish green hair that cascaded down her back. She wore gold. Loads and loads of gold. Gold that hung down her neck, gold that wrapped around her wrists, and pearls that hung on her earrings. Her dress was an elegant dark green. She was beautiful, gorgeous even.

As I hit the ground, the woman gasped. I looked behind me and saw the two men, holding guns. I was frightened. I didn't want to leave. I didn't want to go, not when I hadn't even seen the world properly. Without thinking, I quickly hid behind the woman, clinging on to her dress. I was ready for whatever insult the woman threw my way, but to my surprise, she said nothing. She just eyed the men who were still on their way over here.

They paused when they saw the woman, who was now laying a protective hand around me. She glared at them, and there was a real bite to it

"Excuse me," she started, her voice was calm, collected. Like she had always felt with two men in doctors coats who were chasing after a little girl, "Does this girl belong to you?"

I froze. So did the men. I was afraid that she would give me up to them. They were afraid they were caught in the act.

One swallowed, and hesitated, before finally answering.

"Well..." His voice was hesitant, like he was thinking of what to say to this refined lady, "she ran away from the hospital. You see, she hasn't taken her medication and-"

"Answer my question." she interrupted. This woman was real scary

"Well... Uhm" he swallowed, hard. He didn't know what to answer, and was thinking about getting some other job, that didn't involve chasing after kids when they escaped.

"I assume your answer is, 'no. In fact, this little girl just so happened to be on her way' " she gave a very fake smile, and held onto me, tighter. "So if you're done here, we'll be on our way. Toodles!"

She grabbed my hand and we walked off. The men stood there, way too frightened to say anything to her.

I walked along. I was scared too. What if she found out my secret. What if she hated me..

"Thank you.." I finally chocked out. The laughter that came from the woman was sweet, and elegant.

"Of course sweetie." She smiled at me. She seemed like a nice lady at least. Way meaner than the directors back there. "Do you have a name?"

I gulped. I never actually had a name before. Most people called me 10. But that wasn't any use. She expected a name. A real name. Sensing my hesitance, she smiled thoughtfully once more.

"That's okay," her smile twisted to something else. It was still a smile, but it seemed more melencholic, "I'll call you Keiko.."

'Like the name I had picked for my daughter... Before she..'

But she didn't say these words outloud.

'Keiko...' I thought, smiling to myself 'I like that!'
