Chapter 1
Sprout was in the kitchen with Cosmo. Cosmo was being a bit more close than usual, making Sprout slightly irritated but he decided to set the thought aside for now.
“..And we could probably get more matching outfits! The new ones we got are so cute, don't you think, Sprout?” Cosmo asked excitedly, turning to look at him from rolling the cookie dough.
Sprout was distracted, but was snapped out of his daze when he heard his name. He looked up from stirring the cookie dough, raising a brow.
“Huh? Sorry, I zoned out. What were you saying?” he asked, but he wasn't genuinely that interested. He just wanted Cosmo to shut the hell up for a few seconds so he could think. He had a lot on his mind and was already mad at something.. or particularly someone. Sprout didn't want to snap at Cosmo, but there was a small bite in his tone. Cosmo, oblivious to Sprout's irritation, rolled his eyes playfully as he tried to tease the berry. “Oh come on, what were you thinking about? Was it something.. or someone?” The cake roll wiggled his brows suggestively, expecting a reaction. Sprout tightened his grip on the whisk in his hand, not in the mood for Cosmo's teasing.
“None of your business, Cosmo. Let's just keep making these cookies and finish up, I have something to deal with.”
Cosmo wasn't expecting that reaction, but he laid off and continued rolling the dough. He wondered what was wrong with Sprout today, he wasn't usually that snappy. Was it something the cake roll did? Was it something he said? He swallowed as his insecurities began to catch on. He was hoping he wasn't the reason for Sprout's bad mood.
They finally finished up the cookies, and right as Cosmo was about to give Sprout a high five, as they always did after a successful bake, the berry was gone. Cosmo lowered his hand, feeling his heart sink. Sprout did say he had somewhere to be, but it still hurt. He turned on his heel and left the kitchen, deciding to play with Toodles to get his mind off things. He usually played games with her to help lighten his mood, he had a fond spot for children. Sprout made his way down the hall, his determination to see Looey getting the better of him. He knocked on the circus trio’s bedroom door, waiting for someone to answer.
Yatta opened the door and her smile widened at seeing Sprout. “SPROUT!! HI HI HI HI!!” the pinata said loudly, as usual.
Sprout took a step back to avoid a hug. He was only there to see Looey. “Hey, Yatta. Is Looey here?” he asked as he tried to peer over her shoulder for any sign of the balloon dog. Yatta turned and looked around the room, humming in thought. She looked back at Sprout with another wide smile. “Nope!”
Sprout blinked, his annoyance growing by each passing second. “Well do you know where he could be?”
Yatta tapped her chin in thought, oblivious to Sprout’s growing agitation. “Nope!” she said with that same wide smile, swaying on her feet. Sprout sighed as he rubbed his head, as he felt a headache growing. “Thanks, Yatta. Very helpful,” he muttered, turning to leave. Yatta waved him goodbye, bouncing happily. “Bye, bye, Sprout!! You're welcome!!”
