Work Text:

-So, how long have you been alone ?

The grape haired teen asked the ginger, the ginger haired fairy looked at the ground, looking lost in thoughts, before answering the teenager.

-Does it matter anymore ?

No, of course it didn't matter. They both sad down next to one another, looking at the ground as if it was a third person that was staying with them in such a comfortable. The wet grass under them was sticking and leaving wet marks on their clothes. The once comfortable silence slowly growing into an oppressing kind. Both of them wanted to ask questions to the other, but too afraid to say anything that could be wrongly interpreted or just that would make the other uncomfortable.

But would stay silent do any good ?

-Who was it ?

The teenager finally got the courage to ask, the once burning desire to known everything about the fairy suddenly dying out as it was replaced by a growing anxiety. Did they accidentally overstep  any boundaries ? Crossed a line with no going back ?

No words were needed to comprehend how impactful that question was; the teenager cursed themselves internally for that. They wanted to speak, to tell the other it was alright if they didn't feel like answering but a voice interrupted their thinking.

-My little sister. They mumbled out, a small tear threatening to escape their eyelid. I had to hold her body: cold, breathless. Her heart had stopped long before I had arrived. Their fists clenched as the tragic event played on their mind once again.

The tear had finally escape their eye, it feel down their pale cheek before landing on their sleeve. It was only now that the teenager noticed their hands and hood: Bloody.

The grape haired teenager felt their breath caught in their throat. So that's what it was...

The teen didn't have such a tragic story to share to the fairy, they let the silence settle itself once again as the ginger tried their best not to cry anymore.

-I'm incredibly sorry for your loss... The teen almost whispered, not wanting to make them any more uncomfortable than they already were.

-What about you ?

The question weighted heavy; more heavy than the teen would have hopped. What about them ?They didn't have such a sob story like the fairy; but refusing to answer that question would be rude considering the fact the ginger had answered theirs.

-Me ? They mumbled quietly as their gaze shifted to a tree nearby. I ran away from home. They let out a shaky breath before continuing. My mom...she doesn't love me, she loves the version of her child that she made up in her mind. The teen admitted, their gate shifting back to their hands. She tried to make me that "perfect little child" that she invented. I endure everything till I couldn't take it anymore.

The silence felt heavy after that, nether of them stared at each other, trying to escape the other's eyes as best as they could.

"I'm sorry that she failed you.

The teen paused for a moment, barely realizing they were slowly turning toward the fairy. Why did they felt bad for them ? What they went through was way worse after all !

-It's fine. They mumbled quietly, more quiet than they had hopped. It's fine now that I'm away...

But deep down they knew. The both of them knew that it was anything but okay. The fairy bite their lips, as if holding themselves back from saying anything. They then mumbled something, a small "screw it" before asking.

-Do you know yourself then ?

The teen breath hitched, lodge in their throat as if there was no escaping. They weren't expecting that question. Why ? Because they couldn't answer it truly. Every answer they could think of felt like it was their mother ideal speaking: not them.

The teen couldn't help but stare in horror at the fairy next to them. They were right, they didn't knew themselves at all.

The teen open their mouth to speak, but no words came out of their mouth. They felt...disappointed in themselves. How could tey weren't able to answer such a simpl question ?

-It's fine. The fairy broke the tense silence they had settled. It'll come with time.

They tried to reassure the teen, to ease the panic that was building inside of them. It worked: even if it was just a little.

They both stared at each other for a moment, the fairy smiled at the teen before speaking once more.

-Your name ? They asked the purple haired teen.

The teen stared at the fairy for a moment, processing the information before their cheeks turned a rosy pink out of embarrassment. They've been sitting with one another for a long while and they never thought about introducing themselves ? They apologied to the fairy for not introducing themselves sooner. The fairy told them it was fine, that they won't force them to give out their name if they felt uncomfortable.

-Mafuyu, my name is Mafuyu. The teen mumbled, barely aduible as they looked away from the fairy.

-Harlequin, it's nice to meet you Mafuyu.

The fairy answered back with a welcoming smile on their face.

They were both most likely going to stay here for a while; so knowing the other was nice. Going home was a thought that was racing in their mind.

But did they have a place to call "Home" anymore ?
