Work Text:

Danny winced as he watched his favorite ice skater, Katsuki Yuuri hit the ice not once, but twice at the final. He wasn’t sure what was wrong with the skater, but he normally was way better even with his anxiety. Danny felt his heart go out to Katsuki as he didn’t make it to the podium. Turning the TV off, he sighed. Men’s figure skating is something that he got into after Dani had died. It was always her thing, and he quickly found how interested he was in it.

He watched through that new season, watching with bated breath as Yuuri Katsuki rose through the ranks and podiums. Ever since the ghost attacks had died down and he had graduated both high school and college he was finding he was a little lost in what he wanted to do. He had gotten his degree in one of the many sciences, throughout it all he kept up with Yuuri’s career. All the way through his multiple worlds wins to his Olympic wins.

He wasn’t shy with his fan-boy tendencies either. Tucker and Sam had seen his room full of posters and had been made watch all of Yuuri’s performances. He had paid for the three of them to go travel to the last Olympics so Danny could watch the last competition of Yuuri’s career.

Ice Skating brought him a new joy, Amity didn’t have a skating rink, but the Yetis were more than willing to let Danny find a patch and use it. He wasn’t as good as Katsuki Yuuri was, or any of the professionals, but he could do a couple spins and jumps.

He spent a good chunk of his time on the ice, but when he wasn’t there, he was fixing his parents’ research. They had come around to him being a halfa, but their biases were still out there for people to read and know. He dug in deep and made sure that the world knew the truth.  He published papers, he traveled and debunked the GIW. All in all, he was making well for himself.

When Tucker had moved to Detroit of all places for school, Danny moved in with him. He used the ice rink once a week and Tucker used him during mid-terms and other tests as a war horse. He talked about his study group and Danny was finally meeting with them to help with finals.

Danny smiled as he saw Tuckers curls from the corner of the cafe.  He waved but paused as his eyes laid on one of Tuckers classmates. He had spent so many nights acting out what he would do if he met Yuuri Katsuki in person. Never ever did he think he would meet his idol in a small study group in the middle of a café in Detroit. He quickly looks away, his heart beating out of his chest.

“Danny! Dude, thank you so much for coming!” Tuck stands and Danny forces a smile on his face as he grabs Tuckers arm.

“Of course, gotta use my master’s somehow. Now, help me pick a good drink since you are familiar” Not letting Tucker protest, he drags the man in the short line. He sends a cold glare the man’s way as he leans in to quietly say “You didn’t think to warn me that Yuuri Katsuki was a part of your study group!”

“How do you know Yuuri already?”

Danny leaned back as he stared in shock at his friend “How do I… Dude!” He shakes Tuck’s shoulder, whispering more urgently, “The figure skater I am obsessed with?! Ring a bell, I have had posters of him in my room forever! You came to the last Olympics with me!”

Tucker looks back towards the group before his eyes widen in recognition “I thought he looked familiar!”

“I cannot believe you. Best friend my ass,” Danny smiles at the barista, ordering a caramel frappe. When he gets back to the table, he smiles at the other three people sitting there. “Sorry about that, I’m Daniel Fenton, but y’all can call me Danny.”

One of the students, a blonde girl narrows her eyes “Wait, I think I recognize you… Dr. D. Fenton, head researcher on Ghosts, right? You wrote the famous paper that proved that they were real and there is the interview where you even summoned some to prove it!”

Danny cringed slightly. He regretted how that was perceived by people, he didn’t summon Boxy. It was just Boxy doing his thing of coming to the wrong place at the wrong time. But it did seem to do a good job at convincing people that ghosts weren’t harmful.

“Oh! My husband has seen that video and has been trying to meet a ghost on his own,” Yuuri laughs and Danny is too busy bluescreening to hear the other classmates shout that they didn’t know he was married. Something about his ring and fashion.

Danny just smiles, hoping his voice isn’t stained as he speaks up, “I wouldn’t mind summoning one for him.” NO abort, that is not what he meant to say! “Well, not quite summon- sorry, I mean, well- “

“No need, Victor is already too excitable.  He might pass out if he saw a real ghost. But we should get back on task.”

With that, Danny tries his best to help them with studying. As it got darker, more people left till it was just Tuck, him and Yuuri. Said man was getting up that Danny speaks up.

“I- I didn’t want to bring it up in front of your classmates as it seemed like you are keeping it quiet, but do you think that I could have an autograph? I have been a fan since your debut; I went to see you at the Olympics a couple of years ago. But didn’t want to bother you there…”

“I had wondered if you were a fan. Of course you can have one. But I assume I am going to see you more often. I do need to pass this final, and my Victor will have my head if I don’t get one from you in return.”

Danny’s eyes widen and as he shakily trades the autographs, he knows that Sam was never going to believe him.

After the study group passed the final, Yuuri had invited Danny over to celebrate. Tucker declined his invitation. Yuuri warned him that Victor had a bunch of questions prepared for him and Danny thought that he was prepared for the Russian man.

Victor was a lot. Not in a bad way! Just, holy moly. The man was jumping up and down as he gripped Danny’s hands. “A real ghost?! You mean it? You aren’t just pulling my leg?”

“I would never! But also, I can’t control them. Whoever comes might not be, well, the best option,” Danny’s eyes watch as Victors hair flips around his face as he quickly shakes his head.

“That doesn’t matter to me!”

Vitya, maybe you should listen to Danny’s warning.”

Danny watched the two of them bicker before with some awe. If you had asked him six months ago if he would be in his idols home summoning a ghost, he would have responded that must have been an odd dream to have.

Danny interrupted the two as he kneeled on the nice carpet of their living room. “Okay, I can handle most ghosts, but step back for now, okay?”

Focusing, he draws in some power before a weird blue glow comes forth. A bark is heard and looking up, he sees a large green poodle jump into Victors arms and Victor promptly bursting into tears. Panic sets in and Danny turns to Yuuri just to see him with tears in his own eyes

“Oh, Vicchan…” Yuuri scoops the dog in his arms before turning to Danny. “He was Victors old dog; I am sure you recognize him yourself.”

Now that Danny was looking more closely, he did. Victor kneeled down to face Danny. “How long does the summon last?”

“Oh, um, it depends entirely on how long the ghost wants to stay. But…” Seeing how much slobber Yuuri was slowly getting covered in, he was sure Vichann would be similar to Cujo. “Looks like he is going to stay a while.”
