Her Youngest Victims

Summary:

It was a kindness to kill them quick.

Work Text:

Six was never sure where babies came from.

Granted, she was vaguely aware of the "ins and outs" of how they were made. But did they wake up in the Nowhere?

Or were they abandoned by those few older girls who all shared strained, haunted eyes, bearing the heavy burden within their swollen tummies?

From boys who through indifference, stole fleeting moments of pleasure at the cost of bleeding innocence...

Regardless, few infants ever managed to survive. They were more helpless than a toddler after all, which Six had also observed, were far too trusting.

And even though she'd become something of a monster, Six never particularly liked killing the youngest ones. But unlike adults, she didn't let them needlessly suffer.

Hungry all the time, Six never spared a single bite to feed them. But she comforted them in their final moments all the same, holding and rocking them until their tired eyes were lulled to sleep.

Easier then to suddenly swing their heads against an unyielding surface.

Hard.

Because even though the tender meat tasted the same, unlike from other kids who fought back and for whom she showed no mercy, it was a kindness to kill them quick.
