Sea Foam and Tangerine (and the others in between) *discontinued*

Summary:

Jimin laid in bed and watched the strip on his wrist change color. Again. He really worried for his soulmate, dyeing their hair all the time probably wasn't good for them. At least the new magenta color was pretty.

*Being remade under the name Sea Foam Green and Tangerine (and the spaces in between). I'd put a link here but I don't know how to put one in the summary thing.*

Chapter Text

Jimin laid in bed and watched the strip on his wrist change color. Again . He really worried for his soulmate, dyeing their hair all the time probably wasn't good for them. At least the new magenta color was pretty.

Jimin’s hair had only ever been black, his parents refused to let him dye it any other color. He could sense their massive dislike at the fact that his soulmate frequently changed hair colors. Jimin just liked the pretty colors they chose.

Up until a year ago, the strip of color on his wrist had remained stubbornly raven, until one day in algebra, Jimin watched it slowly lighten to an almost white platinum blonde. He failed his first test that day. Ever since then, the color changed almost every week, some lasted longer (like the cherry color he thought was horrendous), but none more than a month.

Jimin kept track of all the colors and the amount of time his soulmate kept each color recorded in a little notebook on his desk. So far, their hair color was all Jimin knew about them, and he didn’t want to forget a single thing.

He knew nothing about his soulmate beyond their hair dyeing schedule, and Jimin fantasized about them all the time. He wondered over what they looked like, what their gender was (he hoped for male otherwise things could get awkward ), if they had any siblings, what their favorite color was, and just... everything . At the end of the day, Jimin didn’t really care, but that didn’t stop him from dreaming of all the ways his soulmate could turn out, especially since all he knew was their hair color.  Still, every time Jimin thought about them, they changed.

In his mind, his soulmate could be tall, short, lean, fat, mean, sweet, etc. Jimin had gone through every adjective in his mind, piecing them together in different ways, dreaming about which combination might accurately represent his other half. When he was younger, he fantasized more about their personality, but now that he was older, he fantasized about other things. More physical things.

(If he managed to cum in under three minutes just thinking about his soulmate and the amazing dick they must have, because lord knows pussy does nothing for him, then that was his problem.)

Jimin was fourteen. He was a month away from high school, the four years where most people met their soulmates.

Jimin couldn’t wait to meet them.

He couldn’t wait to see the pink head of hair belonging to his soulmate in the hallways. Couldn’t wait for them to meet each other for the first time and exchange numbers, and start planning their lives together. Jimin couldn’t wait for their first date, the more than likely awkward silences as they get to know each other. He couldn’t wait for the first time they held hands, kissed each other’s cheeks, each other’s lips. Couldn’t wait for the first time they touched, the first time they made love. He couldn't wait for their bonding ceremony, for everything their life together would bring; pets, children, happiness. Couldn’t wait to fall in love with them,

Jimin couldn't wait to meet them .

People tended to meet their soulmates before the youngest of the two turned eighteen, and at twenty-years-old, Jimin was running out of patience. He was planning on attending Seoul University in a week, and he desperately hoped that was where he and his soulmate would finally cross paths.

Jimin was tired of all the waiting, the wondering. He was supposed to have met his soulmate in high school, but he didn’t. He waited all four years, hoping for them to appear, hoping to catch whatever outlandish color their hair was at the time in the school hallways.

He didn’t.

Jimin watched all the other kids find their soulmates, while his remained nowhere to be found.

Every hope, every dream, every fantasy about him and his soulmate meeting young, stumbling through adulthood together, in a mix of hormones and unconditional love, and eventually spending the rest of their lives together - gone.

He supposed twenty wasn’t a terrible age to meet his soulmate. Sure, they’ll have less time together, but it's not the end of the world. And, yeah, maybe all of his plans would have to change now, no longer about falling in love young, but everything will be ok the second he meets them and falls in love.

Jimin watches the brown strip turn into a sea foam green.

Sometimes, he thinks he’s already in love.

“Are you coming to the party, hyung?”

Jimin sighed, he'd been avoiding this topic with his roommate for almost a week, knowing Tae would feel dejected even though he had a valid reason for not being able to attend.

“I can't, Tae. I'm really sorry, but I have this massive paper that's due on Monday.”

His roommate groaned, flopping down on his bed next to the desk Jimin was currently occupying.

“C’mon Minnie. You haven't gone to any parties since school started two months ago. Hell, you've barely left the dorms other than to go to classes. You're never going to meet your soulmate if you stay locked up in here.”

Jimin's eyes flocked down to the strip on his wrist that was, surprisingly, still green. He knew Tae was trying to goad him, as mentioning his soulmate always got him to leave the dorms, but Jimin didn't want to hear it. He’d gone out practically every night that Tae was with his own soulmate, which was a lot, and had yet to stumble across his other half.

Taehyung met his soulmate when he was fourteen; Jungkook had been twelve at the time. Meanwhile, Jimin was still without a soulmate and growing even closer to twenty-one. He knew the older he got the less chance he had of finding his special someone.

Truth-be-told, Jimin was already giving up.

“C’mon, it'll be fun.” He could hear the hope in Tae’s voice.

“Alright.”

~*~

Jimin hated parties. He hated the way the lights were all low, the way people ground against each other only looking for a good time. Jimin didn't like touching people in a sexual way, preferring for his soulmate to be the first person to touch him like that. Jimin had lost Taehyung at the door, the other disappearing the second they crossed the threshold. It was ok though, his roommate had most likely run off to canoodle with his own soulmate.

The thought of Taehyung and Jungkook brought back his feelings about his own soulmate. About how he was only a week away from turning twenty-one, and seemed no closer to meeting his special someone.

Jimin shook his head. He was here to have fun, to get out of the dorm for once, and that’s exactly what he was going to do. He was going to let loose, have some fun, and just maybe find his soulmate. He ran his hand through his tangerine hair (he dyed it the second he moved out, hoping the unique color would help his soulmate notice him), and tugged the sleeves of his grey and black striped sweater down to his fingertips.

Fun, he thought. I can have fun.

An hour and three drinks later he was stumbling off the dance floor in search of a bathroom. He wasn’t drunk, just tipsy enough to keep the wandering hands off him. He’d been all over the dance floor, popping and locking to whatever song came on, trying to forget about his soulmate for one night, and mentally hitting himself every time he found his eyes searching for the mint color of his soulmates hair. An hour and three drinks later, he found the color.

He wished he hadn’t.

Jimin knew this was a bad idea. He knew he should've just ignored Taehyung and stayed home. Yes, he wanted to meet his soulmate. But not like this. Not while his soulmate was tangled up with someone else, seated on the bathroom counter. Not while his soulmate was kissing someone else's lips. Especially not while someone else's hand was down his soulmates pants. Jimin stood there frozen, unbeknownst to his soulmate and the boy currently pumping his soulmate’s cock. Jimin stood there and watched his soulmate cum and moan into the unknown boy's mouth. Watched his soulmate open his eyes and notice him. Watched the realization flash across his eyes. Watched his soulmate turn back to the boy in his arms, kiss him, and tug on the waistband of his pants. Watched his soulmate ignore him. Jimin left.

He wished he had stayed home.
