Work Text:
Davey stares at Jack's lips, out of breath and feeling on cloud nine. He snuggles into Jack’s side laying his head on the other's chest as he presses their legs closer together. Davey listens to Jack’s heartbeat and takes in the room around him.
It smells lightly of vanilla and the hot chocolate that Miss Medda brought him and Jack while they were actually studying. The stacks of paper, flash cards, and textbooks sit in the middle of the room with the broken pencils that Jack kept having to resharpen because he wrote too hard onto the paper. Posters line the walls ranging from the Eagles band to some random boxing stars, or whatever the heck they’re called, that Jack was obsessed with. Davey couldn’t remember their names for the life of him although he does know why each one deserves a place on Jack’s wall. Believe him, Jack physically could not stop talking about the people if he so much as glanced at the posters. The bed they lay on was covered in soft blankets and the twin size left no room for personal space. In the corner on the ground there stood a tiny three foot fake Christmas tree that Miss Medda had bought three identical ones for Charlie, Race, and Jack a few years back to each have one in their rooms during the holiday season.
Snow falls softly outside and the sun is setting. Everything is perfect, at least until Jack decides to open up that beautifully kissable mouth.
“I’m not gay though.” Jack says completely out of the blue after a few minutes of silence and snuggling together.
Davey pulls his head back and raises his eyebrows trying to decide if he should slap Jack across the face or start laughing at him.
“You literally just finished making out with me, in your house, which you invited me to, on your bed, and we are snuggling… how in the world is that not gay?”
Davey has had this conversation before. Every time he and Jack get together it is a constant debate. Every. Time.
Davey has always known he doesn’t see girls like how he sees guys. It is something he found out through Sarah forcing him to play Barbies with her, through the movies he watched, and through the songs he listened to. If it ever had to do with love, it always has felt right thinking about it as man and man. And it was something he had accepted a long time ago.
It was obvious that Jack wasn’t the same.
Jack stares at Davey for a hot second, opens his mouth, and Davey braces himself for the dumbest possible answer that the one and only Jack Kelly can give. But nothing prepares him for what Jack is about to say.
“Well, you know… it’s like… I don’t like guys like that, I just kiss them sometimes. That doesn’t make me gay.”
Davey stays silent for a few seconds and really tries hard to understand, but instead he just ends up more confused and a bit hurt.
“Jack, are you saying you kiss me just because you can, not because you want to?”
“No! Nothing like that… But it’s not like if I kiss a guy once that means I’m into guys.”
Davey looks deadpan straight into Jack’s eyes “You’ve kissed me multiple times. We’ve been having these ‘study sessions’ for the past three months.”
Jack stares at Davey with complete seriousness, and responds with “Maybe I just really like to study.”
Davey looks at Jack, looks at the books on the ground and then falls off the bed into a fit of laughter that becomes a quiet wheezing.
“Why are you laughing at me? What if I really do care about my grades?”
Once again Davey looks up at Jack from the floor, and starts laughing harder until tears start to stream down his face.
Jack rolls his eyes while smiling slightly and throws a pillow at Davey. Davey manages to get a few breaths in and begins to calm down while he tries to climb back onto the bed with Jack.
“No, you don’t get to come back up and sit with me after you just laughed at me like that.” Jack says, shoving Davey away from the bed.
“Please forgive me sire, and let me come back to the warm grace of thy royal twin bed.” Davey says with a bit of dramatic flair, kneeling at the edge of Jack’s bed with his hands clasped in a praying possession.
Jack side eyes Davey for a second before putting his face close to the boy on the floor as he pulls Davey to him, giving him a soft, sweet, and slow kiss. They pull away from each other after a few seconds and Jack scans over all of Davey’s face.
“Damnit, I’m so gay.”
“Yeah, you really are, not any gayer than me though.” Davey responds, still kneeling on the floor as he gives Jack a light kiss on the nose.
“That’s not saying much, I’m pretty sure when God made you he accidentally spilt a gallon of fruit punch on you.”
Davey glares at Jack and then makes his way back up to the bed, both readjusting themselves into their previous positions, but this time Jack’s head is laying on Davey’s chest.
“Y’know, being the gay uncle of the family might not be the worst thing.”
A small giggle comes from Davey as he mutters, “You won’t be the only one.”
“What did you say?” Jack glances up towards Davey not having heard the words.
“Nothing important…”
Because what position was Davey in to possibly tell Jack that his little brother Race definitely did not look at that Spot Conlon kid platonically in any way, shape, or form. As it was becoming infact, the only hope that Miss Medda would ever get a daughter-in-law was Charlie, and even then it was questionable. Maybe Miss Medda was just always destined to have a bunch of rowdy and chaotic sons.
Davey glances down at Jack who had pulled out Subway Surfers while he was contemplating the Larkin brother’s sexuality’s and presses a small kiss into Jack’s hair.
Jack relaxes at this action and goes fully dead weight on Davey.
‘Yeah, he’s so gay. And he’s my gay.’ Davey thought quietly to himself before letting his body relax back into the comfort of Jack and his bed where they have done, and will continue to do, many very gay things together.
