Vi squinted against the bright lights that threatened to burn her retinas. Her throat felt like sandpaper, the sterile scent of disinfectants and chemicals assaulted her nose. She tried to move her body but it felt like wading through molasses. Faint shuffling and movement flurried around her, voices talking at speeds she couldn't keep up with. Her mind recognized one, Powder, her baby sister. God, I love my sister.
There were some words she caught, but most of it went in one ear and out the other. Her brain was mush and mush did not understand.
"She's finally fucking awake."
"Call a doctor or nurse."
"Calm down, she's not in pain. Let her come to her senses first."
An exasperated sigh.
She continued to slowly blink and adjust to the harsh brightness when a face suddenly popped into her peripheral.
A fucking goddess.
"Am I in heaven?"
The goddess in question tilted her head, aristocratic nose and sharp eyebrows scrunched in concern.
"How are you feeling, love?"
Vi didn't expect heaven to be Britain but she wasn't going to complain. Or maybe heaven just had British angels? Maybe God just picked the most perfect women and this one happened to be British.
Her mouth must've been wide open because she felt a finger push it shut, "Sis, a fly is about to fucking go in if you open it any wider."
The British Angel/Goddess continued to study her with concern marring her face. Her cobalt hair was tied in a messy ponytail, loose strands framing her beautiful face. She had sharp features and tall, absurdly tall– she was Vi's walking wet dream.
She sluggishly turned her head and faced her sister. "Hi Powpow, I love you." Vi flashed her with a toothy smile which resulted in a loud cackle from her sister.
"God, you look like an idiot but I'm glad you're awake."
Vi quickly glanced at the beautiful woman again, to make sure she wasn't a figment of her imagination, before turning back to Powder, motioning her to lean forward with her fingers.
"What?"
She urged her to come closer with her hand. That small motion felt like a monumental effort to her– what the hell was happening?
When Powder was done rolling her eyes, she finally leaned forward to hear out what her sister wanted to say. Vi winced as her muscles protested when she leaned to whisper into her ear.
The goddess fussed beside her, registering the wince in her expression. "She shouldn't be moving too much!" Her accented voice pitched in agitation.
Powder didn't entertain it with a response and turned her attention back to her sister, "So? Out with it."
Vi whispered, well, what she thought was a whisper but was actually loud, "Who's this beautiful woman?"
The goddess's eyes widened at her words. How could she hear her? Did she have supernatural hearing? She must, since she's a goddess after all.
"Oh my god, Vi."
Vi looked at her sister confused, her brows furrowed or she tried to. "What?"
"This is comedy gold."
She was confused now, and with how slow her brain was functioning it was impossible to solve the conundrum. Vi turned her attention back to the beautiful woman.
"Are you my doctor?"
"No–"
"You're so pretty."
"Wait. Is that inappropriate?"
A maniacal laughter, then rustling as Powder reached for the phone in her jacket, "Hold on, I have to record this shit. The boys are going to lose it."
The goddess sighed exasperatedly and massaged her temples; concern and amusement were warring inside her. While Vi continued her tirade.
"Would you want to get coffee with me sometime?" Her cadence was so slow Caitlyn found it adorable.
"Only if you're single, of course."
Caitlyn thought it'd be best to finally answer her but Powder beat her to it.
"Not everyone is a girl kisser, sis."
"Powder." Her voice held a warning, the girl was having too much fun poking at her sister in her current condition. Although Caitlyn doubted Powder would even heed her warning– that girl was the sole master of her ship.
Caitlyn heard a sniff and to her dismay, Vi actually looked heartbroken with tears threatening the corners of her vision. "It's always the straight ones."
Powder shook with laughter, smacking her thighs as her sister drowned in misery. She diabolically zoomed in on Violet's tearful face.
Caitlyn decided it was time to end the fun, it was all good and games until the tears.
"I'm your wife, Violet."
Vi's jaw just gaped, absolutely robbed of speech.
"And she's loaded, so good job, sis."
Her wife's gaze didn't stray from hers. "No fucking way." Pure disbelief washed over her face, as if she could not fathom this reality.
"Is this a prank?" She garbled.
"Ekko, if you're hiding with a camera, this isn't funny. Come out." Vi sluggishly scanned the room, waiting for a non-existent Ekko to pop out.
Caitlyn just stared at her wife with a very amused and fond expression. "I assure you that it's not a prank, darling."
Her wife just stared at her with a dopey look on her face and her heart clenched in fondness. She raised her left hand, flashing their wedding band. Caitlyn smoothly slid it off her finger, tilting it to show the engraving of Vi's name.
The woman just openly gaped at her, "Can you say darling again?"
She couldn't help but chuckle.
"Darling."
Vi pinched her cheeks, wincing at the sensation then quickly smiling as it dawned on her that this whole thing wasn't a fevered delusion. She actually had a banging wife.
"Wow, I fucking made it. Can we kiss?"
Caitlyn laughed before leaning in to press a firm kiss on her wife's mouth.
Powder made exaggerated retching noises in the background. She would've rolled her eyes if it weren't for the stupefied expression on the woman's face before her. Vi licked her lips as if she could still taste Caitlyn on her mouth.
"Oh my god, your lips– so soft and your eyes are so blue."
"Well, they are blue, you fucking genius." Powder chirped.
"I love you." Vi kept going, undeterred by her sister's quips.
"You're like the prettiest girl I've ever seen."
All three statements Vi slurred in quick succession. The accelerating beep of the heart rate monitor filled the background.
Caitlyn caressed Vi's cheeks with her thumb, tracing the small tattoo on her cheek– which she initially found ridiculous but grew to love.
Only my certain type of idiot would get her name tattooed on her cheek.
"Are you okay?"
Her wife nodded quickly, "Like a million dollars."
"Your wife's got more than that." Her sister-in-law muttered.
Vi's eyelashes drowsily fluttered against her cheeks, Caitlyn could tell the drugs were still working through her system.
Her voice was slow and soft when she asked, "Can you give me another kiss?"
How could she say no to that? Caitlyn leaned in for another chaste kiss when she heard the monitor's incessant beeping skyrocket making her break it off. Her eyes widened, "Do we need to call the nurse?"
"Nah, I think she's just horny now."
"What if something's actually wrong?" Caitlyn's eyebrows furrowed in concern, Vi's heart continued to beat abnormally fast.
"We need to tranquilize this animal."
"God. I have a hot wife."
