More Beautiful Than Pearls

Summary:

Your first public outing with San is exciting but a bit nervewracking, but thankfully your boyfriend is there for you.

Notes:

This is yet another fic idea from 2024 that I finally finished, and honestly it's just a fluff fest

Work Text:

You tried on the clothing your boyfriend had bought you, though you think he was hiding the fact that they were actually gifted by Dolce & Gabbana. He hadn’t let you see his outfit, hiding it from you since the two sets had been hand delivered by an employee of the fashion brand.

You looked in the mirror at yourself, surprised at how well the outfit fit your body. It seemed San had taken your measurements to ensure it fit your body and flattered every bit of it. You were so focused on yourself that you didn’t notice San approaching you, the taller man standing right behind you.

“You look so beautiful, darling,” he said, startling you slightly.

You turned around to look at him, noticing that you had matching/complementary outfits on. His chest was on show today, the piece of clothing on his chest barely covering more than his nipples and some of his pecs. Which was the same as yours, however you had an additional layer underneath it, a pretty lace top that was so soft and delicate and suited you perfectly.

Other than the fit of the pants and coat to suit your figure, you and San had on the same exact pieces. He smiled down at you, bringing a hand up to cup your face.

“Do you like it? Does it fit well?” he asked you, concerned.

You nodded, smiling up at him. “It fits perfectly, San.”

You saw his shoulders drop in relief, before he pulled you into his arms and held you close. You savored these moments, knowing it wouldn’t be long until you make your debut as Choi San of Ateez’s girlfriend. And your first public outing with him, that the public actually knows about.

It had been three years since you had met San, and shortly after, started dating the idol. You actually ran into him in LA, on one of their visits to the city. You also happened to be visiting, though you were visiting family instead of vacationing. He almost ran you over while rushing down the street.

Thankfully, he was a sweetheart and stopped to help you up, and then you quickly got to talking and before you both left LA, he took you out on a date. It wasn’t much, just a nice lunch at a local place you were pointed towards at the behest of your sister. But the lunch was the best you had had in a while, and so was the company you had during it.

San’s arms wrap around your shoulders, bringing you back to the present. “Where did you go, doll?” He asked, leaning in close to kiss your cheek softly.

“I was remembering how we met,” you replied, your voice soft and filled with affection.

“Why are you thinking about that?” He questioned.

“Because today is my first official outing as your girlfriend. So I was remembering our first meeting and our first date, and how now I’m here, about to go to a fashion show with you,” You said, looking up at him through the mirror.

“Are you nervous? If you’re nervous you don’t have to go,” San said, his brows furrowing in concern.

“No, no, I’m okay, just feeling a bit nostalgic, that’s all,” you told him, “Now, are we ready to go?”

San nodded, but looked you over once more, before realizing that you had yet to put on your shoes. Like the prince he is, he knelt down, reaching for the heels given to you to wear alongside the outfit. They weren’t tall, they just gave you a bit of height, and the chunky heel was much more comfortable to wear for the amount of walking you would be doing. Lightly holding your leg, he slipped on one shoe, quickly repeating the action with the other shoe before standing back up. “Now we’re ready to go, I don’t think it would be good to leave without shoes on, my starlight.”

You felt your face flush, as you nodded. “Yes. It wouldn't be good to go outside without shoes on.” You agreed, before taking the hand that your boyfriend offered to you.

San led you out of the room, and then out of the building, to the cacophony of noise from both fans and photographers. Ignoring the screaming and yelling, he waved before guiding you into the car and then slipping in beside you as the door closed behind him. The car quickly took off to bring you both to the show, and despite some of the traffic, you arrived fairly quickly at your destination.

San exited the car first, turning around and reaching to help you out of the car. You scooted over to the door, grasping his hand as you exited the car, the cacophony of noise hitting you full force, the screams for San’s name, and trying to get the idol’s attention from Atiny. You could see various banners for your boyfriend, and you could see the smile on his face as he waved at Atiny, before he pulled you close and pointed out a few of the signs and banners he loved the most. You smiled at them, and then giggled at how cute he looked. “You’re adorable, love.” You told him, as you were both then guided inside, where the show was being held. You were almost tugged away from your partner as many reporters, photographers, and others who wanted photos tried to pull him away. Yet, San refused to let you get too far away from him, making sure you didn’t let go of him. He waved off everyone, as the two of you were guided to your seats, and it was only because of how valued San was, that you were even allowed in the front row. San gently tugged you to sit down next to him.

“I have to go do some things, but for now, sit here and wait for me, please?” He said to you, and you smiled and nodded.

“Go be the idol you are,” You said, giggling at the end telling him you were partially joking.

He smiled and walked off towards whoever wanted him. You watched him walk away, before turning your eyes down to your phone, deciding to spend the time on your phone instead. Though, before you were able to do too much on your phone, you were approached by someone.

“Long time no see,” You heard, looking up to see someone you hadn’t been able to see in months, due to your schedules not lining up.

“Han! What are you doing here?” You asked the man, slightly confused.

“What? I can’t be invited to events?” He teased you, before explaining that he had been invited, and since your boyfriend had taken up all the spotlight, he figured it wouldn’t be that bad to show up. Plus he knew wherever San was, you wouldn’t be far behind.

“I’m not saying that, just surprised to see you here,” you defended yourself, pouting a bit.

“I’m just teasing, you know that. Besides, where is your boyfriend?” He asked, “Usually he stays by your side, or drags you with him.”

“He’s got to do his thing, and I’m perfectly fine waiting for him, outside of the spotlight. Like you are.” You said, before continuing, “How’s Minho doing? I assume he’s waiting for you back at your hotel.”

Han nodded, smiling and blushing just a bit as he obviously was thinking about his boyfriend. “He’s doing great, as always. He misses hanging out with you, we both do. I know we’ve been busy, but we’ll try and make some time, so we can all hang out.” He replied, a dopey smile still on his face. However, before he could say more, he got called away by his manager. “Gotta go! See you!” He said, as you chuckled at his quick exit.

You didn’t have to wait around for long though, as arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you back into a hard chest. “Hello love, I’m back. Did you miss me?”

You giggled as you looked up to find your boyfriend staring down at you, a content smile on his face. “I always miss you, you know that.” You replied, smiling back at him.

He guided you to lean closer to him, as the rest of the invitees also took their seats as the lights got dimmer in favor of the runway lights getting brighter. San was nearly vibrating next to you, excited to see your reactions to these aspects of his job, from right next to him. You had heard as much from him, which is how he convinced you to be here next to him today. And your boyfriend could be very persuasive when he wanted to be.

As the music turned on, and the first models started to emerge from backstage, your attention was split between the runway and San, both keeping your attention for different reasons. You enjoyed the clothing and models, having gained an eye for fashion from the idol sitting beside you, and your mutual friends, i.e. the rest of Ateez. But you also couldn’t help but enjoy seeing San watch it all, knowing that he enjoyed working with the fashion house and seeing their work come to life on the runway. You always admired his love for the things he cared about and loved, enjoyed seeing the happiness and joy on his face. Like when he was saying hi to Atiny earlier.

His hand on your thigh jostled you out of your thoughts, as you looked over at him, he leaned in and whispered to you, “Are you okay?”

You just nodded in reply, smiling at him once again. It seemed to satisfy him as he returned to watching the show, and you also decided to actually focus on what’s going on around you.

The show seemed like it went by so quickly, and suddenly you were leaving the venue, and of course Atiny was still there to support your boyfriend, and he decided to go over to quickly sign a few things for his fans, and you watched him do so with a smile on your face, waving to the fans who waved at you to get your attention. Thankfully this crowd seemed to be filled with sweet fans, and as San came back, he was talking about what some of them said to him.
You listened to him the entire way to the van, and then back to your hotel room, where a suspicious bag awaited you on the bed.

“San, why is this bag here?” You asked him suspiciously.

“I have one more thing planned for us, today.” He said, “And that outfit is a part of it.”

You raised your eyebrow, and surprisingly, he didn’t give up any of his plans, just took his own bag that was resting on a chair in the room, and headed to another part of the suite to change. “Our plans are in an hour, darling.” He informed you, just before he disappeared.

(line break)

It was almost time for you to leave, but San had yet to appear. You were waiting for him in the entryway of your hotel suite, and just when you figured you might have to go find him and drag him out here, you heard his footsteps on the floor. He quickly emerged from wherever he had been, only to stop in his tracks as he took in your appearance.

“Love, darling, you look so beautiful, prettier than any jewel I could think of.” He said, approaching you. His hands came to rest on your waist, as he leaned in to kiss your forehead. “Are you ready to go?” He asked you, his voice soft, yet almost nervous.

You couldn’t understand why he’d be nervous, unless he was worried you wouldn’t like his plans. But honestly, besides the one time he let the others rope you into watching a horror movie, you had never once disliked what he planned for you. “I’m ready to go.” you replied, and then he guided the both of you out the suite and down to the lobby, where a car waited for you.

As you slid in and San joined you, you turned to ask him. “So where exactly are we going?”

“It’s a surprise, but you’ll enjoy it, I swear.” He said, not giving anything away.

It didn’t take long for you to reach your destination, a lookout spot that overlooked cliffs and the ocean, just as the sun was setting. You got out of the car, practically drawn to the sight, only stopping once you came to the railing. You couldn’t take your eyes off of how the pinks, purples and oranges combined to make one of the prettiest sights that you had seen. You enjoy the view for a few moments, before moving to look around a bit more, and spotting a bouquet of flowers on a bench nearby, walking over to pick them up. Looking at them close to find a note in them, with “I love you” and your name in San’s handwriting. The bouquet was filled with lavender, white roses and tulips, some of your favorite flowers.

“San, how did you find this place? How did you plan all of this?” You asked, only to get no reply. Why wasn’t he answering? You turned around only to find your boyfriend on one knee, and your hands came up to cover your mouth as you gasped, dropping the bouquet in the process as you were shocked.

“I knew from our first date that I wanted nothing more than to have you in my life, and I’ve been lucky enough to have you as my girlfriend for the past three years. I love your passion, your kindness, and your eagerness to help everyone. You’ve gotten along with my members and my family so well,  that’s what really made me sure that I never wanted you to leave me. I adore you, my darling, and I hope you’ll stay with me until we’re old and grey. Will you marry me?” San asked, his face showing just how nervous he was, and that made your heart melt even more, as his words made you tear up.

Coming forward to meet him where he was kneeling, you knelt down in front of him and nodded, “Yes, I’ll marry you Choi San,” you spoke, tears falling down your cheeks, and San’s smile grew so wide at your answer.

His hands shakily removed the ring from its box, and reaching for your hand, slid it on your ring finger. His hand then moved up to the back of your neck and pulled you in for a kiss, which you quickly reciprocated. The feeling of joy between the two of you was something you had never felt quite so strongly before, and you only wanted more of it. The cheers of those around you broke you both out of your spell, turning to find more than a few bystanders celebrating for you, but also a few familiar faces in the small crowd. San helped you both to your feet and kept you close to him, not that you’d want to be away from your boyfriend- no fiancé.

You looked up at him with a smile on your face, speaking softly, “I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together, and see many more beautiful sunsets just like this one.”
