Chapter Text
“Yknow Stanley, don't you think this is getting rather… repetitive? All of these resets, you making me annoyed, then ending in your eventual death” The Narrator sighed.
Stanley lay stretched out across the floor of his office, resting both feet on the desk above his head. He wondered what the narrator may be on about, he had never mentioned anything about becoming bored of his own story. Besides, if he WAS bored, he could just change it.
“That's the thing, Stanley, I am maybe, sort of… running out of ideas…”
It hurt The Narrator’s soul to have to admit to his incompetence of keeping things interesting, but it was evident, in both Stanley and himself, that this facility had become awfully dull.
I guess when you play the same game with the same person for many years, things do tend to become rather dull.
“Wha- well, i uhm mean that a little harsh don't you think? Especially coming from someone who’s entire role in this universe is to simply get on my nerves. You have no idea what it's like dealing with you-”
Stanley could say the same about the Narrator..
“Ugh, I'd like to see you do any better handling someone as bratty as you..”
All of a sudden, The Narrator had a very bright idea. A brilliant idea.
“Oh! Oh… Haha, Stanley~ you are going to LOVE my latest story prompt…”
With curious ears, Stanley sat up and stared at the roof, where he assumed the Narrator was. What ever could that old man be thinking?
“,, OLD MAN?!” The power began to surge within the snap of The Narrator. In Stanley's office, down the corridors, deep in the belly of this old facility, every light flashed and blew. Flares of yellow lightning shot into Stanley’s room and flash banged the snarky office worker. When his eyes came to, before him stood a proper man. The black of his 3 piece suit ensuring the gold of his tie and glasses stood out from his pale skin, hooked nose and neat grey hair. He whipped his fluorescent tail, reminding Stanley he was nothing short of the devil himself.
“Stanley,” The Narrator grumbled through his clenched jaw, he always tried to keep his composure. For someone who has to deal with a… what did you call me again? A brat? All day, The Narrator was a rather lousy brat tamer.
“Do you even WANT to hear my idea? I could just force you to slump in this sweaty office for the rest of your petty existence, would you want that, or are you going to grow up and actually pay attention to me? I think you'll really like this…” The Narrator’s voice softened into a slight whine as he pulled up his holographic screen with nothing but a click of his fingers. I wonder what it must feel like to have that sort of power.
A smirk spread underneath The Narrator's eyes as Stanley stared at him with intrigue. He only ever accessed his 3D form for two reasons, to scold his favourite protagonist-
“Favourite is a bit of a REACH.” He waved his hand in Stanley’s direction
Ugh, Stanley rolled his eyes, not without releasing a slight chuckle first - OR, when he is trying something new.
I think it may be a combination of both in this instance.
The Narrator swung his hands into Stanley's face,
“SO-” His eyes brightened with a flash of passion as he explained his idea to the unsuspecting man.
“I will give you admin privileges for my game, and I'll take my own away, TEMPORARILY. That way we can see who TRULY has it harder. My role as the narrator, or yours as the main character. What do you think?” The Narrator’s grin beamed in Stanley’s direction.
You would turn me into a Narrator?!
“Yes, only temporarily of course, otherwise our whole world may fall to pieces, and neither of us want that to happen. That means, no more resets. Which means-”
Stanley began to tune him out, as The Narrator often ranted like this. Stanley's heart thundered in his chest. This was so nerve-racking and yet possibly the most wonderful adventure they were ever about to encounter.
“Being your superior is much harder than it may seem.” He zapped back into the wires of the old building.
Bring it on.
THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE
The Narrator swayed in Stanley’s office, bearing a mustard button down shirt and white pants. He no longer has his tail or powers. He had turned himself human. He could feel his clothes tightening and loosening around his contracting muscles, he could feel his flesh and organs working, pumping, living. His ears rang and pounded. His chest expanded and contracted. He was breathing. He was alive. He pushed himself off of the metal desk and stood at the door. He snapped his fingers, stupidly forgetting the fact that he had willingly let himself become powerless.
“Look, okay, this is going to be difficult to get used to.” He held his head, he could feel it pumping and sloshing in his skull. He could feel the sting of the fluorescent lights. His brain hated them.
ILL SAY!
The door remained locked, as Stanley watched everything that was going on from a 3rd person perspective. He was able to fly through walls and he could see everything. Stanley was no longer restricted to a physical form, he felt as if he were a beam of light, like he was something else entirely. Oh wait, am I supposed to..
“Open the damn door? Uh yeah or else this is going to be an even more boring adventure than the last. Think about what you want, click your fingers and it'll happen. That's how it works for the simple things anyways, the more complex stuff you'll need the tablet, but I'm sure you wont be needing that.”
Ok,, okok,, ok. A shaky breath escaped from Stanleys… wait I don't have a mouth… Or body…
…ok,, OPEN SESAME! Stanley snapped his fingers together and opened the door, allowing the narrator to freely roam the map.
“Wow, good job Stanley! I am really proud of you for struggling to do the most basic task in my arsenal! Keep up the good work.” The Narrator's voice was flat and sarcastic. Nothing out of the ordinary, as that cocky bastard strolled from office to corridor. He kept his sunken eyes relaxed, held his hands in the small of his back and marched into his first decision.
The Narrator stood silently in the room as the two doors swung open.
“Stanley,, you are aware that as a Narrator you must Narrate my decisions? You're trying to fulfil my role, not butcher it! Oh C'mon! I want the authentic Stanley Parable Experience!”
Stanley scoffed, but in reality he was too starstruck to even care about anything the Narrator was doing. When The Narrator came to a set of two open doors, he entered the door on his left.
