The Work of Healing

Summary:

Kurt is having nightmares, and Wanda encourages him to go to therapy. He's reluctant at first, but he quickly realizes how much he needs the help, and thus begins his healing journey.
If you're not into the Kanda ship, it doesn't play a big role, and you can just read the therapy parts. I just had to include my favorite ship!

Notes:

This work is slightly canon-divergent, in that Amanda Sefton and Jimaine Szardos are two separate people, and Margali Szardos is a good mother who never locked her son's soul in a fascimile hell, swapped bodies with her daughter, betrayed her kids, murdered a bunch of people in London, etc. Kurt needs at least ONE good parent.

Also, this is set prior to the Draco (because ew), so Kurt does not know anytning about his many parents. Kurt knows about Mystique, but that's it.

Finally, this is NOT a real therapy session and is purely a work of fiction, so please don't take anything I wrote as a means to diagnose or treat any mental health problems!

Chapter 1: Intro

Chapter Text

Kurt stroked Wanda’s hair as she cuddled next to him. “You’ve been in an exceptionally good mood lately.”

Wanda smiled, looking up at his face from where she rested on his soft yet firm chest. “I suppose I have. You know, I caught myself thinking how happy I am. It’s so new, and I love it.” Reaching up, she kissed his chin. “And I love you.”

“I love you, too.” He kissed her forehead.

“I think the therapy is working,” Wanda mused.

“Really?”

“Mmhmm,” she nodded, tracing patterns into his fur. “I’m having fewer nightmares, and I just feel better, overall.”

“Fewer nightmares. Maybe I should try therapy.”

She looked up at him again. “You should. I’m sure my therapist would see you. She’s very mutant-friendly.”

Kurt grimaced, realizing he’d backed himself into a corner here. He hadn’t actually meant he wanted to try therapy. “No, thank you. I’m quite all right.”

Wanda propped herself up on her elbow so she could meet his eyes. “Why not?”

Kurt wished he hadn’t said anything. “I just don’t think I need it.”

“I think it would be good for you,” Wanda encouraged, pausing a moment before continuing. “I’ve heard your nightmares.” She would guess that there was more going on than just nightmares, but she knew Kurt well enough to know that he wouldn’t say anything.

Kurt considered his words. He knew Wanda had heard. She was the only person he felt safe being so vulnerable with, but she’d never pressed him to talk about his nightmares, and he never talked about his nightmares. “I’m fine.”

Wanda laid back down, resuming running her fingers over his fur. “Maybe you should just try it, one appointment. It’s really not as bad as you think.” She considered his short blue fuzz. “It’s not bad at all.”

He sighed. She normally didn’t push things with him. If she was, maybe he should consider it. “If it will make you happy.”

She smiled, kissing his chin again. “I’ll talk to Zuhura and get it set up.”
