Work Text:
A cold bite filled the air as the worst of Fimbulwinter had begun. Kratos had been stalking the forests near the home which he had painfully carved out for his family. It had never been this hard before. As the disgraced greek man made his way to the large fire pile outside his home, he became aware of another being. This creature was far to large to be some ordinary human. However, it was far too weak to be some sort of god. Slowly, he reached for his Leviathan Axe before moving closer. The creature was mostly comprised of a long, red serpent's tail with the upper half of a woman. Could this be a gorgon who strayed too far from her home? He narrowed his eyes as he prodded her cold tail with his axe.
'Girl...are you awake?"
--------------------
The girl remained still, her body frigid. Kratos leans down and grabs her wrist, feeling for a pulse. A slow beat meets his fingertips.
She's still alive.
Normally, Kratos would strike down any danger he's faced with, but this girl posed no threat. Especially not in the poor clothes she's in.
Through the years, Kratos has felt himself grow... softer through his family. He thought back to a time when a snake had crawled into their house. He planned on killing it and casting it
out, but Atreus' eyes convinced him otherwise.
--------------------
Kratos stalked back to his home, returning minutes later with an old blanket and fur coat. Wrapping the fur around her shoulders he did his best to gather her tail into the blanket, before heaving her up and marching back to a cave near his home. Atreus had kept the wood stove within stocked as part of his daily chores every since the cold began to set in, now it would finally find its use to warm the poor girl.
He laid her down near the fire as comfortably as he could get her before preparing the stove. Throwing in some kindling and sparks he instantly felt the air warm significantly, adding a few extra logs to ensure it would last. And then he sat himself by the girl, tending to the flame.
She would wake up soon, it was only a matter of time.
