Work Text:

Basking in the sunset sky, Rafayel sways to the music coming from below the hotel balcony. He wears nothing but fashionably worn jeans and the veneer of carefree relaxation. He puts his head down, his hands up, takes a drag of his cigarette in ecstasy and glows orange.

It is a private dance, Sylus's very own VIP-booth. He lounges in a shadowed armchair, transfixed, both of their whiskey glasses abandoned half-full on a woven side-table. Six hundred feet from them the sea waves come and go. Sylus hears their murmuring, smells the salt fill up the air in tact with Rafayel's movements as if his hips command the tide. The tune from the hotel stage changes but he keeps going - he's never payed the music any mind after all. Back and forth, back and forth with the crushing sound of the waves, until he opens his eyes and the sun, reduced to a mere spark, drowns in them, catches Sylus's eye and ignites a playful smirk.

- Dance with me, - Rafayel extends his hand and takes another drag, dropping ashes on the floor.
Sylus stands up, circles Rafayel, wraps himself around him from behind and breathes in the outworldly smell of his.

- I was fine where I was, - he murmurs and gets a half-burnt cigarette stuffed in his lips.

- Well, I don't care, - Rafayel's arms go high, higher, and lock behind Sylus's head.

Rafayel's armpits are shaved, just a tinge grey from the hair sprouting anew from below the skin. Sylus wants to lick them, he wants to eat him whole. He knows for sure by know how Rafayel's sweat tastes like.

They sway to the smells in the air, touching and feeling, smoked out parliament sent flying to the hotel's yard, uncaring. The moment feels unending, the flaming crimson disk behind them set in place just as snugly as Rafayel's waist in Sylus's hands.

- Tell me what you're thinking, - Rafayel's adam's apple bobs invitingly in the red light, ready to turn predatory when the sun finally leaves them.
Sylus smiles.

- I'm thinking, - he purrs the words in his sweetest voice, - that you're gorgeous.

He kisses Rafayel's neck softly and the siren scoffs.

- What else?

- I want to buy you a car.

- A car?

- Yes. the best one out there.

- Hm-m, what else?

- I want to bask you in glory, make people worship you.

Another kiss, another laugh.

- You'll go crazy with jealousy.

- Yes, - tight and drawn, like a bow.

- Poor Sylus. Tell me, what else?

Rafayel's eyes open again, just as the last light starts to fade and Sylus continues, drunk on the sea salt:

- I'll buy you diamonds. cover you in them, catch the sun.

Diamond scales. Diamond scales and no pearls in sight. The skies finally go dark.
