Work Text:

Katsuki's shoulders groan as he takes his shirt off, full of dust and sickly sweet with his sweat. He wasn't supposed to work today, a rare off day lending itself to errands, free time spent pretending to be a real grown up. Not that it worked out that way. Of course, no matter how hard his overworked body protested, villainy would stop for nothing.

He'd finally checked out his groceries, finally gotten out of the packed store, finally started his walk home, when some jackass came barreling through. He was obviously not in his right mind, acting erratically and not seeming to have much control of his quirk.

The resurgence of trigger had been hard on the community. Made for more work, harsher fights. Often more casualties.

Katsuki put a stop to it, not before the guy tore up several storefronts, and not without getting his own ass thrown a couple times. But he did, still in civilian clothes, groceries forgotten.

He hears as the front door opens, closes. Keys jingle as they're placed in the dish. He tries to shake the tension from his shoulders, rolls them a few times to trick his body into forgetting the bone-deep ache there.

"So much for a relaxing day off, huh?"

Izuku stands in the doorway, his own hair still slightly damp still from showering at his agency. Seeing him, in all his frizzy-haired glory, illuminated as if haloed, lets some of the exhaustion sink in. He soaks in his husband, eyes drooping, letting himself drift out of his focus.

"Yeah. Go figure, right? Not even in our section."

Izuku steps closer, cupping Katsuki's cheek in his hand.

"I would have been there if I could." He hears the guilt there. Like somehow Izuku could have willed himself to the villain's exact location if only he'd grown the ability to see the future.

"I know. It's okay. I handled it."

"On your day off."

Katsuki shrugs, sitting back on the bathroom counter. It's not a big deal. He signed up for the job. He knows that being a good hero means helping people when he can, no matter what. He knows Izuku knows too.

Izuku leans down, kissing Katsuki's forehead before resting his own there. He feels sticky and gross, and he's sure when they pull away, there'll be a soot stain on Izuku's forehead, but he leans into the touch anyway. They sit like that, in each other's space, for a while, until Izuku's head grows heavy on Katsuki's, and his neck begins to ache too.

"Take a bath with me?"

Eyes shut, he feels Izuku nod against him.

They undress as steaming water fills the tub. It's a comfortable silence, nice to be together, though neither has the energy to converse. Katsuki will ask Izuku about his shift later, over dinner.

It's a large tub, they made sure of that. Large enough for them to both fit comfortably when they feel like it. They sit close anyway, as if having space between them is sin. As if not touching leaves them at risk of disappearing.

Izuku washes him, scrubbing the masonry and smoke from his skin. He washes away the battle, some of the soreness going with it. Loving, crooked fingers work shampoo and then conditioner through his hair. Once he's done, he drains the tub, fills it back up again and adds relaxing bath salts.

Once he's satisfied, Izuku climbs back into the tub, enveloping Katsuki in his arms, a gesture Katsuki returns in earnest. He nuzzles into his husband's neck, kissing the soft skin there. He feels Izuku hum in contentment before his chin is guided up.

He looks deep into Izuku's eyes, such a pretty green, shiny and beginning to crinkle at the corners. He reaches up with a damp hand to thumb at the crow's feet.

"I love you, Kacchan."

Katsuki hums, leaning in to softly capture Izuku's lips. They kiss languidly, like they have all the time in the world. Hands card into hair and trace patters on skin. Katsuki feels himself drift off, into another plane of consciousness, or lack thereof. There is him. And there is Izuku. And that, by all definitions, means there is safety.

They stay there like that, enraptured and entangled, well after their hands go pruny and the water starts to cool. Only when he starts to feel goosebumps popping up on Izuku's skin does Katsuki make to move.

"Wanna order in and watch a movie in bed?" Izuku asks him as they put on comfortable clothes, Izuku in flannel pants and Katsuki's old worn skull tshirt, himself in soft, loose fitting shorts.

He kisses his husband again, wrapping his arms around strong shoulders.

"You read my mind."
