Work Text:
Helaena sits there high in a tree. No more queen, no more husband, just her and her bugs. The guards have been looking for her for ages and yet can’t seem to find her. She touches her wings once more, she’s finally a real fairy. Mother Nature has picked her to be gracious.
Her husband didn’t seem to notice her absence, only her mother and children. Helaena flies from tree to tree, a real fairy, flying with the bugs. Non have stopped singing, they only encouraged it! Helaena flies away with the fairies! Flying feels free! Leaving her body and life behind.
She looks back one more time. Her daughter playing with her dolls, Maelor asking where big brother is. She is done. She jumps and flies, the bugs carry her to a better place. A place for her. A place where she can be herself, no forced marriages, no forced childbirth at 13, no duties, no sacrifices, no unknown. Just her, the fairies and her bugs.
