Work Text:

Akito was used to the typical circus that engulfed Kamiyama on Valentine's Day. This year more than ever, there were lots of unique events, stands and of course gift exchanges happening all across the student body. To that end, he was entirely prepared to cycle through the usual routine -- politely accept treats from his friends and classmates, try not to be a dick in rejecting any girls with a puppy crush, dodge a certain pair of stupendously obnoxious senpais for as long as humanly possible... For the most part, things fell within his expectations.

...What he didn't expect, however, was that he'd open up Class 2-B's door in order to pick up Toya for lunch, only to find his partner clad in a frilly maid dress.

"Ah... Hello, Akito." Toya greeted as though his circumstances were perfectly ordinary, face not moving alongside his gaze as Mizuki -- who was currently laughing her ass off at Akito's bewildered reaction -- held a makeup brush to it.

"What the hell is this...?" Akito pondered aloud, managing to tear his eyes away from the heart-pounding sight of his dolled-up partner to lay eyes upon a sign -- or an extremely obvious homemade excuse for one -- which read 'Class 2-B Maid Valentine's Special!'

"Unfair is what it is! You pull that off better than I ever could, Toya." An, his extremely begrudging travel companion, replied like the comment was meant for her, gliding past Akito in order to deliver a playful punch to her addressee -- a little bit harder than Akito would have done it, but Toya didn't budge regardless. Both him and An were pretty physical in their shows of affection, and it seemed Toya had built up a certain sturdiness as a result.

When she pointed it out, though... The whole maid getup really did suit Toya more than Akito could ever think. A tall stature like his would usually take away from such an aesthetic, but Toya's body was rather thin -- almost androgynous -- so weirdly enough, his height ended up working to his advantage. The black skirt, contrasting nicely with his milky skintone, ran all the way down to his ankles, where just below the lace trim laid barely visible socks of an identical pale color. Coupled with the white accents along his sleeves, waist and collar, it served to give him a refined and elegant look -- like something you'd actually wear on the job rather than a cheap costume for shitty schoolyard popup.

...That, and he looked really fucking cute.

"Sure you don't wanna test that theory, An? We've totally got spares~" Mizuki hummed, and it was only when she stood up that Akito noticed she was clad in similar attire. Of course, she went for a far cutesier look that made you question if she was meant to be dressed as a maid or a magical girl -- lots of bows, ruffles... and of course, a far shorter skirt. Where Toya's outfit allowed the natural silhouette of his long legs to do the talking, it looked like Mizuki relied on a petticoat or something to give her skirt volume, belling out like an umbrella shade over the glittery stockings she'd chosen.

Though, Mizuki was pretty tall for a girl... and the material of her legwear was clearly made to stretch taut within reason, so it would surely fit Toya too... Did that mean- nope, never mind, he was not prepared for the consequences of riding that train of thought while they were still at school.

"Come on, Mizuki, I'm not even in your class!" An huffed in response to her friend's teasing, rather conveniently snapping Akito back to reality. "You're not gonna get the whole squad in uniform!"

"...Kohane'd probably fangirl if you did it." Akito shrugged pointedly, and for the faintest of moments An looked like she was maybe considering it before shaking the thought from her brain and dragging Mizuki off to talk separately.

"They're both lively as ever, aren't they?" Toya finally threw a proper word into the hat. He'd only taken a couple steps forward and yet he'd done very well in reigniting the fire Akito wasn't even aware had kindled atop his cheeks. The makeup he wore upon his face was subtle enough to the naked eye that you'd probably only notice if you were really studying his features -- but to what Akito would seldom consider his detriment, he was better-versed in this subject than any of his academic pursuits.

"Yeah, but..." Akito eyed Toya up and down for what he could pretend wasn't the hundred billionth time if he willfully suppressed his ability to count. "You're not gettin' pressured into anything weird, are you?"

"Of course not." Toya answered about as aptly as expected, though Akito had to wonder if he even registered the source of his concern as he swayed his skirt back and forth -- which, much to the dismay of the younger's heart, slightly revealed that his legs were indeed adorned with the same sparkly stockings as Mizuki. "My class was talking about what we should do for Valentine's Day, and several of them suggested I take part once we settled on the maid cafe idea. I didn't see any harm in trying it out."

"As long as you're happy, I guess." Akito sighed in defeat, his instinctual weakness against Toya's curious whims winning against his bout of overprotectiveness. "Doesn't look like you've got much business, though."

"Oh, right... I nearly forgot."

Before Akito could even question anything, Toya backtracked along the paces he'd taken forward. Bringing both his hands close together, he pressed the nails of either pointer and middle finger together into the shape of the heart. With a strategic placement of the symbol next to his right cheek, he paired it with a somewhat awkwardly feigned yet endearing smile and a fluttering wink with the opposite eye, topping it all off by striking a pose with one of his legs kicked up to the back of his thigh.

"Welcome home~"

"..."

"Akiyama told me we should greet our customers like that." Toya slipped back into his usual demeanor in a snap, oblivious to the hardcore factory reset he'd triggered inside his partner's brain. "So, would you like to sit and order the pancake spec- A-Akito? Why are you pulling?"

Akito's brain was decidedly not even slightly in control when he dragged Toya into the nearest bathroom... or was this a supply closet? He didn't even check. Whatever, the location was far less important than the intense thunder striking from the inside of his chest over and over, hence why he didn't even bother to duck into a stall -- guess it was the men's room, then -- before pinning Toya firmly to the wall. Even whilst cornered with his partner giving him what was likely the most pathetically needy expression he'd ever catch him making, Toya did nothing but return his gaze, all doe-eyed and innocent and so stupidly fucking beautiful it genuinely drove Akito crazy-

"Akito?" Toya finally chose to inquire, lips and eyebrows finally sinking forward into a look which matched the concern in his tone. "Is everything okay?"

How did he manage to look even prettier when he pouted? The gloss applied to Toya's lips -- already perfectly soft and kissable as they were -- further accentuated each movement of his mouth, as did his mascara make those sharp eyes of silver even more alluring, and it was driving Akito absolutely crazy. He wasn't exactly sure how to label the emotion of 'when your boyfriend is so perfect you need to throw up and die immediately but also maybe take him between your teeth like a dog shredding up a new chew toy but not before jamming your tongue down his throat until you forget what breathing is', but he did know he was feeling it so intensely that he wouldn't be surprised if he uncharacteristically fell to his knees then and there.

"Akito..."

"Please lemme kiss you..." Akito was already surging chest-to-chest despite his words, tumbling outward about a thousand times more whiny than he'd usually ever want to come off.

"Um... yes, of course?" Toya sounded surprised -- wholly unsure of what he could've done to provoke Akito so much that his heartbeat would skyrocket so, but never one to turn down some loving from his partner. When Akito's hands slipped forward to catch where his waist was neatly cinched by his dress, Toya hooked his own arms beneath until both palms could smooth into either of his partner's shoulder blades. From there, no more words were needed -- only the seamless connection of lips in a dance they'd had to have performed hundreds of time since they began to date.

With the added element of the lipgloss, their kiss felt a bit different -- a slight waxy sensation that didn't really affect the taste but certainly made it harder to get into a rhythm. Still, it wasn't bad. On the contrary, Akito felt like a world's worth of unwanted weight was being manually yanked from his body with each press of lips and caress of clothed skin. He squeezed at Toya's waist exploratively, finding that the only downside of getting to see him in this outfit up closer than anyone else was that he couldn't hike a hand up his shirt to feel the heat of his skin. Luckily, Toya seemed to develop a similar idea so quickly it was like their thoughts were connected by a singular channel, pale hands suddenly wandering across the comparatively tanned skin of his back.

Usually, Akito did his utmost to be as careful with Toya as he could possibly be -- but when they descended into the thick of it, both of them had a tendency to get completely lost in passion without any care for whether they could find their way out again. Perhaps both those factors could be blamed for the way Akito almost stopped when he realized Toya's very-not-waterproof makeup was starting to run, only to immediately forget about it when his partner dragged him into another kiss by the hair. With all the loyalty of a soldier taking orders from his commander, Akito allowed himself to get swept up in the flow like salt spilled into a whirlpool.

Taking advantage of his spot against the wall, Toya hooked one leg around Akito's waist with relatively ease. It was another unforeseen inconvenience of making out while wearing a dress -- the long skirt made it more difficult than it should have been to adjust the lower half of his body without risk of messing up the fabric. Regardless, he stubbornly applied the effort until his ankles were locked around Akito, supported solely by the combined weight sandwiching him. If they were slightly less too-in-love-for-their-own-good, they might've considered how embarrassing it would be to be caught by one of their peers in such a compromisingly intimate position... but when gay and in a random school bathroom, as they say.

The next time Toya needed to suck in a breath, Akito took the opportunity to slip tongue into the kiss. Upon being thrown from the river into the ocean, Toya failed to swim along with the new current's pattern for a moment, but it was hardly any longer than that before he regained his footing. They still weren't fantastic at this part, but that didn't stop it from noticeably rendering both their heads buzzing with static. The first time they tried this, Akito found himself severely underestimating how many nerve endings were just sitting there inside his mouth, and even now it was still kinda crazy to experience -- but that didn't stop either of them from wanting more of that potent dopamine hit, as evidenced right now from the tightening of Toya's grip upon orange hair.

They always had that effect on each other. No matter their flaws or vices, they accepted one another wholly, even if it resulted in a scenario as ridiculous as french kissing in the school bathroom while one of them wore a maid costume. There was nothing but love and passion between them, so when one of them began to spark such a blaze, the other couldn't possibly think to do anything but fan the flames. Whether that meant supporting each other through their rapidly growing music career, acting as a protector and a shoulder to cry on no matter what personal hardships either of them should tackle, or even just keeping up with the tempo as they kissed each other dumb, they were partners in every single sense the word had ever known.

When they finally reached the point where miniscule stolen breaths could no longer sustain them, Akito found his thirst blossoming anew rather than quenching. An was far more correct than she realized when she said this was unfair -- for even with his makeup entirely messed up, half-lidded eyes completely glazed over, sweaty bangs sticking to his forehead from exertion and swollen-lipped jaw slack as each part of his body attempted to catch up one by one... Toya was still completely, undeniably beautiful. Enough so that Akito was almost tempted to ignore his own lungs' hurried attempts at recovery and steal his lips yet again.

"...Don't you want to keep going?" Toya eventually questioned, having barely caught his breath and yet so eager to have it snatched back away from him.

"I do." Akito answered as softly as he did truthfully, punctuating his words by smoothing a palm beneath Toya's chin and planting a chaste smooch. "But we should probably go back before your class gets worried..."

"...Oh." Toya's eyes suddenly widened. Just as quickly as they'd intertwined themselves to begin with, they began hurriedly disentangling themselves at Toya's abrupt behest. Akito scrambled to help Toya to his feet, allowing him to finally free himself from the wall -- thankfully failing to dirty the dress in their careless process -- and stumble in front of the mirror.

"I don't think I can go back to work like this." Toya spoke plainly as he gazed upon the absolute mess he'd made of his makeup. Akito could only let out a tiny, endeared laugh at his reaction, reaching forward to deliver an affectionate hair ruffle -- which he would've avoided otherwise, but his hair was already a mess as things were.

"I gotcha, partner. Just stay here." Akito stepped as he spoke, just the right amount of shame leaking back into his body to make sure nobody was watching as he made his exit. Luckily, Toya's classroom was only a couple doors down, but that also made him realize how stupidly close of a makeout spot he'd chosen...

Actually, when he really thought about it, he couldn't help finding it extremely mortifying that he'd even lose his self-control like that in the first place... Seriously, not only were they still in school, but Toya had a job he was expected to do, yet he couldn't keep his apparent Toya addiction in check... Even if he looked crazy cute in his uniform, they couldn't afford to both be head over heels airheads.

"Yo, Akiyama." Akito called as soon as he opened the door, wanting to get his penance over with as soon as possible for Toya's sake and that of his own ego. "Mind if I borrow your makeup kit? Toya's got a little smudged."

"Pfft... I'll bet." Mizuki snickered from her place on the far side of the classroom, making Akito raise a brow as both her and An struggled to contain their laughter. "Looks like you need some help too, li'l bro."

"Hah?" Akito huffed pettily, only for his soured look of annoyance to jump back into pure humiliated flusterment when Mizuki pulled out a rather convenient hand mirror. He should've known -- while they were going at it, Toya left evidence of their crime smudged all over Akito's face....

"C'mon, sit down!" Mizuki urged as Akito grumbled under his breath, shoving him into the same chair in which she'd been doing Toya's makeup earlier. "I'll give ya Mizuki's extra special premium salon service~"

"Pass. Just gimme the remover." Akito huffed. Toya might have been into that stuff, but the only way Akito would wear makeup -- beyond the occasional simple eyeliner for a show -- was if Toya marked him up with it. In fact, the only reason he even knew how to apply it was because of all the times Ena forced him to be her stooge...

"Boo." Mizuki blew a disappointed raspberry, but began rifling through her bag for the required supplies anyway. A few chemical-scented spurts later and his face was being slowly wiped clean, though he could sense she was still thinking of sneaking in something extra...

"...By the way, Akiyama..." Akito found himself asking out of sudden morbid curiosity, glancing back for a moment just to make sure the rest of the class wasn't listening in. "You sure you're cool with all of this? Since... y'know. The rumors."

"Aw, does li'l bro have a heart of gold after all~?" Mizuki predictably teased back, taking the opportunity to boop her patient's nose while she could grasp it.

"I'm not a dick." Akito returned with a roll of his eyes, folding up his arms as she continued. "I don't really care how much of that gossipy shit's true... Just don't think if it's right if they're givin' you a hard time."

"Eh, you can't change the mind of people like that." Mizuki said with a shrug, patting the side of Akito's cleaned cheek to his continued annoyance. "That's why it's great to have friends like Toya-kun, though! He doesn't care what anybody thinks about him."

"Heh... No, he really doesn't." Akito chuckled, predictably getting all smiley the moment his precious partner was mentioned. He knew that Toya's lack of regard for social norms mainly stemmed from his isolated upbringing, but that purity of his was honestly one of his best qualities. Whether he knew it or not, he had a way of bringing out the best in people... which, in this specific case, also meant enabling their worst.

"Aaaalright, you're squeaky clean!" Mizuki hummed as she wrapped up her work, subsequently packing up her makeup bag and stuffing it into Akito's arms. "Go ahead and fix up your partner, li'l bro. We started getting more customers just now, so we definitely need him!"

"If his service skills can hold up in practice, that is..." Akito found himself thinking, though he just spewed a simple thanks aloud as he left the classroom. The journey back to his partner once again reminded him of his ridiculous impatience, but whatever. Toya was probably more concerned with fulfilling his duty to the cafe than anything, so there was no reason to put himself on trial either.

"Hi, Akito." Toya greeted the moment his footsteps approached, shutting off the sink just in time to face the younger. "I think I was able to simply wash most of it off, so that should make reapplication easier."

"C'mere, dude..." Akito sighed, guiding his partner close as he lazily retraced Mizuki's steps to find the makeup remover. He began to blot it gently against Toya's face, ensuring to wipe clean each affected area until he was left with a completely blank slate -- Toya's face in its natural form, a different kind of beauty that couldn't not be appreciated even if he only seldom adorned it with makeup.

"...I think I still like him best like this." Akito found himself thinking sappily as he took in the sight of partner's bare face. His previously downturned lips spread into a soft smile as he reached up to tenderly cup Toya's soft cheek, chill to the touch from the alcohol still lingering on his skin.

"Akito?" Toya called his partner's name in that adorably inquisitive tone the same way he always did, once again somehow completely oblivious to the positively heart-melting effect he had on the very boy whose touch he so enjoyed.

"I'm takin' you on one hell of a date after this." Akito decided aloud, planting one final kiss upon Toya's lips as he picked up the brush.
