I want to be your favourite

Summary:

Laura is jealous when she finds out that Travis was married. She quickly decides to have some fun with it.

Preview:
“Are you…jealous?”

Laura scoffed. She was trying for indifference, but worried the sound bordered on manic. “How could you even ask me that?”

“You sound jealous.”

It didn’t sound accusatory. More like he was trying to understand. Like he had never considered that he and jealousy could exist in the same space.

It kind of broke Laura’s heart.

Work Text:

“You do this a lot? Back in the day?” asked Laura, slipping out of her jean jacket and kicking her shoes into the corner.

Travis turned back the sheets, looking for signs of bedbugs. “Sleep?”

He wasn’t even trying to annoy her; it was just how he answered questions: with more questions. Or vague, one-word answers. Whether it was a cop thing or a Hackett thing, Laura didn’t know. Either way, it was an impossible habit to break.

“Seedy motel rooms.” There was an implied eyebrow waggle in her voice.

It hadn’t been their first choice, but it’s where they kept ending up.

Laura had tried. Tried to visit Travis. Wanted very much to see the modest cabin he had described at the wooded perimeter of the cursed little town. He was going to cook dinner, whatever Laura wanted. She just had to bring the ingredients; he’d take care of the rest.

She’d gotten as far as the sign welcoming her to North Kill before having to pull over.

The car had filled with the sound of screeching tires.

Bodiless whispers.

Gnashing teeth.

Travis found her behind the wheel, squeezing back tears, trying to calm her erratic heartbeat. He crouched next to the driver’s seat in the cold night air. One hand rested on her thigh, warm and big, while the other thumbed away the tears that managed to slip free.

Laura never asked how long she’d been sitting there before he thought to get in his truck and go look for her. Or how he knew exactly where to find her.

Travis drove them to a motel in the next town over. It was their first time sleeping together without sleeping together.

To his credit, Travis had made it further. He got all the way to her apartment door before stopping dead. While every trace of Max had been wiped from the studio apartment, the space was so small it was hard not to picture him lurking in every corner.

Hard not to picture the normality Laura had been ripped away from for two months. It was cozy and safe, decorated with Ikea furniture and marketplace finds. No family secrets lurked behind her walls.

They saved themselves the trouble these days and went right to motels.

It was still a novelty to Laura. Her family were the type that stuck to established hotel chains. Copied and pasted buildings that existed across the country. Water slides and continental breakfasts. Travis didn't seem as entertained, but she suspected the Hacketts weren’t Best Western loyalty members.

“Didn't have to,” Travis replied, setting his wallet and keys on the bedside table.

“Didn't go on a lot of dates?” she teased.

“Married. We mostly kept to the house.”

Laura looked across the bed, which suddenly felt bigger than a queen. It was an endless chasm.

“You were married?”

“That so hard to believe?

“Shut up, that's not what I meant. Why didn't you tell me?”

“Didn't come up.”

God, he annoyed her sometimes.

There were so many questions she wanted to ask. When did they meet? Where did they meet? Had his ma like her?

The one she blurted out was not important.

(It was the most important.)

“Was she pretty?”

She was partially joking.

“Yeah.”

The one little word was said with the bored affectation of a man discussing the weather.

She gaped at him. “You know, most men lie when asked that question.”

“You hate most men,” Travis pointed out.

Laura shrugged. She was starting to hate this one, too.

“Why'd you break up?”

Travis sighed, seemingly accepting that they were having this conversation. “She left me.”

“Did she tell you why?”

“It wasn't like she ran off in the night,” he said, already on the brink of exasperation. “There were papers to sign. A house to split up. Assets. You know.”

“I have exactly 205 dollars in my savings account right now, I do not know about assets,” Laura told him.

He looked at her like he was saving that information away for a later conversation.

“So…?” she prompted.

Travis opened his hands towards the ceiling, spreading his arms wide. “My family wasn't easy to be around, even, you know, before everything.” He shrugged, “I guess I’m not either.”

“So, she gave up?”

“We both gave up, in the end.”

Giving up on a man like Travis Hackett?

Idiot.

“Do you miss her?”

“No,” he replied easily, “she’s been gone longer than we were together now. Besides, we weren't good for each other.”

“Are we good for each other?”

“Probably not.”

“You’re kind of an asshole,” she told him.

“One of the many reasons why I’m no good for you,” Travis said.

But Laura saw the playful tug at the corner of his mouth.

“Do you have a picture of her?” she asked suddenly.

“Like in my wallet? No.”

“No, not in your wallet, grandpa. On your phone.”

Travis stiffened in that way he did every time his age was brought up. Even still, he dutifully pulled his phone from his back pocket and scrolled to a long-forgotten collection.

When he turned the screen to her, she had to lean across the mattress to see. Laura was confronted with a lineup of Hacketts. It was a picture of a picture, the original being neatly pasted in an album. They were probably celebrating something; the group all dressed in their Sunday best.

Next to her would-be employer, Travis smiled at the camera. The lines around his forehead not as severe, but already present. His arm was around the waist of a tall, shapely woman with curly red hair and a splash of freckles across her cheeks.

She was gorgeous.

Bitch.

“She's pretty,” Laura said, trying not to stare. To notice how easy his smile was, how relaxed his posture seemed to be.

Travis only nodded.

Laura sat down on the bed, facing away from the man she didn’t really know at all.

“What was your pretty wife's name?”

“Laura,” he came around to her side of the bed, stepped between her legs. “What does that matter?”

Laura looked straight ahead. All she could see were his hands on his hips. She stared at the finger where a wedding band once sat, convincing herself that the skin was paler there.

“Just asking.”

“Bethany.”

“Pretty name.”

Still, there probably wasn’t a better name for the acrid tendrils that weaved through her ribcage. And because she couldn't think of a fun, sexy way to admit that, well, yeah, I was hoping you were a virgin when we met, she asked a question instead.

“Were you jealous of Max?”

“Extremely,” he said with a sincerity that left her a little breathless.

“Really?”

“You fought so damn hard for him, Laura. And he didn't even have the courtesy to–”

Travis stopped himself. One time, after a few too many lukewarm beers in a bar that wouldn't recognize either of them, he let himself speak his mind.

His mind did not think highly of Max.

Laura tried not to let herself get bogged down with hate. It'd be a gross oversimplification of what they shared to say he dumped her after one too many night terrors proved a part of her was still stuck at Hackett’s Quarry. But if the shoe fit…

“Yes, I was jealous,” he ended plainly.

Laura looked up. Dark eyes hidden in angular features loomed over her. A possessiveness shone there, and Laura couldn’t help but admire the way she was reflected in that stare.

“I kind of like that?” she said, rolling the idea around in her mouth.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

Travis was quiet. Then he cleared his throat. “Well, uh, you,” he said, “have nothing to be jealous of.”

But the idea tasted sweet. Sweet enough to dull the ugly ache of jealousy. It poured over her tongue and began to slide down her throat. Laura wondered if Travis would like the taste. If it would wash away the bitterness of doubt, until he knew what it felt like to be fought over.

Sure, there was a gentle way to do that. Small ghosting touches and longing looks. Watch him slowly, slowly, unravel

Or she could take her preferred route: pushing that old man to the very brink of a heart attack before yanking him back from the edge.

Because, maybe, she wasn’t good for him either.

Laura looked up at him, an easy smile on her face.

“Why? Was she bad in bed?”

His reaction was immediate. His mouth tightened, his brows furrowed. It went right to her head like a sugar rush.

“Laura.” One word. Its meaning clear: careful.

Shame it didn’t have the desired effect.

“Oh, she was good in bed?”

The easy smile dissolved into something wicked. It was the one Travis saw every time his blood pressure was about to go from bad to worse.

“Did she do that thing you like where someone licks from--”

Laura,” he cut her off, sharp and authoritative. Though the warning was undercut by the pink creeping up his ears.

“Come on,” Laura purred, “let me be jealous.”

“What good could possibly come of that?”

“Oh, use your imagination for a second, Trav,” she reached out, hooking a finger through one of his belt loops.

She pulled him forward. Travis took a step closer between her legs, holding them open. Laura started to pull at his tucked-in flannel, her deft fingers working at the buttons.

“Let me show you that I can be better.”

And like any time Laura took the lead, Travis fell in line. His warnings left in the dust.

She worked his belt open and eased the zipper on his jeans down. The underwear underneath was tented, a small wet patch growing where he strained against the fabric.

“Ma’am, you’re playin’ with fire,” Travis said, his voice already tight.

Ma’am. A jolt of anticipation shot down her spine. He slipped so easily back into the role of gruff cop. While now it was solely an act, it was one Laura adored.

“So are you,” she countered, “telling me all about your pretty wife. You have to know what that does to me, Trav.”

She could hear him audibly swallow. Dirty talk was something she had to forcibly pull from the very core of Travis’ being, but dear God, was it worth the hassle.

“What does it do?” The words were hardly above a whisper.

“It drives me crazy.”

Travis snorted. Laura grabbed either side of Travis’s open zipper and gave another little tug. He stumbled towards her, righting himself before he could go tumbling down onto her.

“I’m serious,” she said, looking up at him. "The idea of someone else touching you? Knowing you let her hear all those little noises that I thought were only for me? It hurts, baby.”

Travis’ eyes shone in the lamplight. Dark like polished obsidian. The way they did when any sort of praise was directed at him. A beautiful mixture of awe and disbelief that made Laura want to cry.

“Does it now?”

“Uh-huh.” Laura splayed her hands across his stomach and slowly pushed the flannel up. She leaned forward towards the silver hair leading down his stomach, and Travis’ muscles tensed under her warm breath. Looking up and holding his gaze, she ran her tongue along the perimeter of his boxers, “I want to be your girl, Trav.”

He inhaled sharply. “You are.”

“Let me hear you say it, please?”

“You're my girl, Laura. There's no one else.”

The words settled over her like a sunburn and its balm all at once.

“You promise?”

“Stick a needle in my eye.”

Laura beamed up at him. She hooked her fingers in the waistband of his boxers and pushed down. His cock sprang free, and Laura wasted no time taking him into her mouth.

The weight of Travis on her tongue–comforting and intimidating–left Laura giddy. His hands were immediately in her hair, his fingers scratching familiar little lines across her scalp.

She curved her tongue along his soft, pink crown, heady salt collecting on her taste buds. Laura hummed contentedly as she traced a vein, more and more of him filling her mouth as she did.

Travis made a little sound, a breath ending in a choked moan. If she removed the threat of bed bugs, Laura could almost imagine she was in heaven.

More of Travis’ weight leaned onto Laura andshe took it gladly. The shitty motel mattress, however, did not. The edge crumpled under the pressure, spilling Laura forward with a surprised huff. Instead of bracing her hands against Travis’ hips and stopping herself, Laura let him thrust to the back of her throat.

“Fu–” Travis stuttered, his fingers in her hair momentarily forgetting to be gentle. They curled to claws, holding Laura where she rested.

Her eyes widened before fluttering shut as she relaxed her jaw and tried to settle her gag reflex. Wiry hair tickled her nose, and Laura breathed in the familiar scent.

Travis rocked his hips. Shallow, experimental. Laura stilled. She felt his hands relax and slide to the back of her head. He gathered her hair up into a loose ponytail, wrapping it around one palm.

He pulled her hair taut, but slowly enough that Laura had time to object if she wanted to. She didn’t. Satisfied, Travis tugged a little harder. Laura let herself be pulled backwards until only the head of his cock lay heavy and swollen against her tongue.

To test her new boundaries, Laura tried to lean forward to take the length of him back into her mouth. His grip wouldn’t allow it. So she tried to move backwards, but his hand and its fistful of blond hair refused to move out of her way.

Laura looked up, and when her eyes met his, Travis let loose a barely constrained noise that she felt in her core. She beamed, knowing that noise was all hers.

He rolled his hips forward, slowly gliding across her tongue before pulling back. Held suspended, Laura could only take what was given when Travis began to rock his hips in earnest. Slow, tentative movements falling away to forceful bucking as he fucked into her mouth, his laboured breaths keeping tempo.

Salvia started to gather at the corners of her mouth where his cock held it open. It ran down her chin and dripped down onto her clothed chest. The sounds she made–sounds only for him–were wet, all gagging and sputtering. Tears pricked at the corner of her eyes.

Travis ran the pad of his thumb along her cheek, surely cutting through the tears that managed to slip free. The motion was in total contrast to the way he forced himself down her throat with each snap, and Laura couldn’t help but moan. Her empty cunt clenched on nothing. To avoid squirming–he’d stop if he noticed she needed attention–Laura squeezed her legs together.

And just when it was becoming too much, his rhythm reaching a sporadic, frenzied pitch, Travis yanked his hand backwards, her scalp suddenly alight from the pressure, and pulled completely out of her mouth. A strand of saliva stretched between them before falling away, becoming just another wet patch on her shirt.

Laura whined softly at the loss. Travis tutted and put a knee up on the mattress, crowding Laura onto the bed. He gently pushed her backwards, taking over the space with his own body.

He looked down at her and cupped her cheek in his large, sure hand.

“No more talk about the past, okay? Just you and me.”

Laura’s eyes shone. You and me.

Too bad the ex-wife made three.

Sticky-sweet sugar spread across her tongue.

“Hmm,” she pretended to consider this. Laura couldn't help but nuzzle into his palm, even as she thought of ways to ruin him. “That does sound nice.”

Travis made a vague noise, but his mouth curled into a poorly restrained smile.

“But...” The corner of Travis’ mouth fell. “Admit it, you don't really want nice, do you, Trav? Your wife looked nice. Was it everything you wanted?

The warmth of his hand disappeared, air from the too-strong A/C taking its place. His hands moved to her wrists, their touch less comforting. Laura felt her arms slide along the mattress until Travis was holding them above her head.

“I don't know,” he pressed down firmly, and Laura didn't know if it was his or her pulse that was beating wildly, “there's some merit in having a girl who does as she's told.”

The eye roll took hold before she could stop it. “You'd get bored.”

She remembered how easily he gripped the silver-backed glass shard of the mirror. Blood had dripped from his hand, the same blood that coated her mouth. How he ran through the woods, chasing and hunting. Every decision was made without hesitation, later regrets be damned.

In the photo he looked so…painfully domestic. Subdue in a way he never was around her.

“You were bored, weren't you?”

Travis was silent. Laura rolled her hips up against him. His jaw clenched.

“Did your eyes ever wander?” she purred. “I bet they did.”

The fantasy spun faster and faster, spilling out of her mouth and weaving around them.

“Maybe you pulled someone over for speeding. A girl just passing through on spring break. Did you stare at her tits when she handed over the license? Noticed the way she bit her lip, put on the innocent act just a little too thick? She was comfortable speeding, maybe she'd be open to breaking other rules.”

Laura paused, biting her own swollen bottom lip, fluttering her eyelashes. “How long was it until the fantasies weren't enough? You had to wonder if there was something more out there.”

One of Travis’ hands left her wrist and settled heavy on her jaw. His thumb brushed her bottom lip, gently pulling it.

“But I didn't have to wonder for long, did I?” he continued for her. “Because there you were, at the side of the road. Eager little slut, weren't you? Still with your boyfriend and giving me those eyes?” He leaned down until their noses nearly touched. “Knew right away you weren’t a nice girl.”

Laura shivered under the intensity of the false memory. She felt like a live wire under the weight of his body, every nerve on fire where Travis touched her.

“And tell me your eyes still wander,” she dared.

“Never.”

“Because they don't need to. You've got all you could want, right here.”

Travis nodded.

“You’re mine,” Laura cooed. “All mine, right, baby?”

“God, Laura,” Travis groaned. “However, whenever, for as long as you’ll have me.”

There was the same sincerity that punched all the air from her lungs. Laura made a promise to herself at that moment. If, when, he needed someone soft–someone who could listen and take–she would be that person too.

They could be good for each other.

Just not tonight.

“Careful, I’ll get used to hearing that,” she murmured.

“Good.”

Laura looked up into those dark, patient eyes. “Say it again.”

“I'm yours.”

There was no hesitation.

Laura lifted her head as far as she could to meet Travis' lips. Stopping just short of a kiss, she whispered, “Again?”

“I'm yours,” he repeated, his lips brushing against hers with painful gentleness.

She sealed their lips together and drank those words down. Down where they'd stay safe and protected, leeching into her blood and every breath she’d take. Travis shifted to kiss the corner of her mouth, her jaw, the thin skin beneath her ear.

“Now you,” he breathed.

“You’re mine,” she said, her voice ending in a gasp as he took her earlobe between his teeth.

She was vaguely aware he had released her wrists. The sound of fabric rustling was distinct, peripheral compared to the hot breath in her ear, and the way it made her head swim.

Strong hands moved up her knees, pushing the hem of her dress up with them. They reached the slight dip of her hips before pausing. They climbed higher, searching, trying to feel for the familiar feeling of fabric interrupting smooth skin.

Laura’s panties were safely packed away in her overnight bag.

“Mine,” she said again without prompting.

Travis’ fingers ghosted across her hipbone.

“Mine.”

They passed over blond curls.

“Mine.”

They traced down the velvet seam of her cunt, sticky with want.

“Mi-oh.”

They plunged into the heat of her, and the sudden fullness sent Laura’s head spinning.

The word died on her tongue. Only a high, breathy sound could be pushed from her raw throat.

“All I could want,” Travis echoed her words back to her. They sounded better in that deep drawl.

“As if I could ever find another pussy this pretty.”

His head bowed to her chest, pulling a rosy, hard nipple into his mouth.

“Or tits this sweet.”

Laura laughed. Laura loved laughing during sex. And she knew Travis loved hearing it, loved even more when he was the reason for it.

“Or a mouth this smart,” he said, catching her in a deep kiss.

Their lips moved in tandem with his fingers. Unhurried and thorough. They forced Laura higher and higher, her muscles clenching as she climbed. His thumb brushed her clit, his circles deliberate and deep, the way he knew she liked it.

A low, quivering moan broke their kiss–Travis had removed his fingers. She could sob from the emptiness, the way her body fell limp as her orgasm ebbed away.

“Travis,” she whimpered. Her legs wrapped around his waist, trying to pull his slim hips back towards her.

“Hmm?” he asked, his head lolling to the side. Travis blinked slowly, as though he couldn’t imagine what she could be upset about.

“Don’t tease me.”

“Don’t,” he said slowly, “tease you?”

He sat up to his full height on his knees. Laura pouted.

“What’s the matter, can’t handle your own medicine?”

The pout made way to a smirk. Oh, he thought he was going to pull himself back from the brink, did he?

Travis, darling, light, of my life, you’re not even at the edge yet.

They watched each other for a moment. The air tingled, electric and intoxicating.

Laura moved first. A hand slid down her stomach, her knees falling open. Her fingers took the place of Travis’, rubbing slow, forceful circles around her clit.

Hunger gnawed at his features.

It was mere moments before she felt her muscles tightening again, that familiar heat growing heavy. Travis watched on, something unknown swirling behind the hunger.

“You got me so close, baby,” she murmured, dragging a finger through her lips and presenting the shining evidence to Travis. He leaned forward and Laura snatched it out of reach. Her hand hovered in front of her face before her tongue slid out to meet it.

With long, savouring licks, she cleaned her finger before dropping it back down to her aching core.

“Laura,” he croaked out. Like she had crossed a line by taking matters into her own hands.

She could have laughed. They didn’t have a line. If they did, immediately imprisoning the other probably put a toe over it. A bad start, to say the least.

Shooting the other’s mother definitely put the whole damn foot over it.

So, she didn’t really feel bad about maybe hurting his feelings in the pursuit of good sex.

“What, Beth-ah-ny never put on a show for you?” she asked, stretching his ex’s name into three exaggerated syllables.

That unknown thing behind Travis’ eyes crackled. And suddenly Laura was staring into twin eclipses.

Her hand was forced from between her thighs. Once again, her impending orgasm dropped away. It was whiplash, the swollen, weighted feeling being replaced so suddenly by the deathly tight grip on her wrist.

For a moment, Travis didn’t handle her like a lover. He handled her like a criminal. Her arm was twisted painfully behind her back, and she rolled to the side to lessen the contortion. Travis took advantage of the motion and pinned her shoulder to the mattress, forcing her face down.

“That’s enough,” he hissed in her ear.

He sounded like the clicking teeth of handcuffs. Like words whispered between bars.

She was dripping.

Laura bit her lip to stop a choked sob from escaping into the comforter. He was straddling her, and she could feel his erection twitch against her ass. Try as she might, she was unable to roll her hips up to feel any friction. Any modicum of relief held just out of reach.

Instead, there was a loud crack. Pain blossomed against her backside. There was no stopping the gasp that tore free, its edges ragged. She twisted as much as she could to look back. Laura could only see Travis out of the corner of her eye, but it was enough to see the smug look on his face.

“What?” he asked, and Laura watched his hand swing out to the side before crashing back against her other cheek. “Max never told you when you were acting like a brat, is that it?”

Laura lurched, her body fighting to escape even as her mind could only chant more, more, more.

“No,” she babbled, “only you, baby, only you.”

“You know, you keep saying that, but I'm not sure it's stickin’.”

Crack!

Laura keened.

“There’s only you,” she insisted.

Crack!

You and me!” she amended.

Travis made a low, satisfied noise.

Two more fell in quick succession. Heat radiated up Laura’s back. It left her thoughts foggy, Max’s name hardly registering. Instead, she floated between overwhelmed and unfulfilled, staring over her own edge.

She felt those big hands grab at her ass, kneading her mottled skin under strong fingers. When the pain had fallen way to a low hum, Travis’ thumbs spread her open. Laura felt a droplet of cool, thick liquid fall onto her exposed heat before it was replaced with the blunt pressure of his cock.

Travis sank into her fast and hard, leaving no time to adjust. Laura pressed her face against the comforter, muffling a slew of swears.

The pressure on her bent arm disappeared as Travis released her. She felt his lips on the shell of her ear.

“What was that, sweetheart?”

His hips snapped against her. His knees squeezed either side of her. Pressure existed everywhere, building and building.

“Fuck,” Laura said, “Travis!”

“How many times are we going to have to scream each other's names before they're the only ones left?”

Laura let out a high, barking laugh. “Let’s find out.”

He chuckled behind her. His answer was to pull himself free and pound back into her with such ferocity that Laura screamed his and God’s name over and over until they were one and the same.

For a third time that night she felt the undeniable quivering spreading out from where Travis rutted against her.

She squeezed her eyes shut, please don't stop, please let me come, she silently begged.

“You think you've deserved it?” Travis asked from behind, and Laura realized she was asking aloud. Still asking aloud, the words repeating like a mantra.

Please, Travis,” she pleaded, “I need to come, don't take it away from me again.”

His first braced itself by the side of her head, and Laura momentarily mistook the feeling of falling to the side for yet another orgasm slipping out of her grasp. But then she was being forced into the mattress, and oh, God, it hadn't slipped away at all. It was right there, building so fucking fast she didn't know how she hadn't come yet.

Travis’ hands were on either side of her head, caging her in. Laura bit at the fabric of the comforter, crushing it between her teeth to keep from yelling so loudly they'd surely be banned from all motels in a ten-mile radius. He ripped it away.

“No, sing for your dinner.”

There was no breath to mock the dated expression. Only hunger and a growing certainty that if it wasn't satiated soon, she might simply die.

So, she sang for her dinner, pushing her abused throat further. She could do little more than whimper and hope it was able to reach Travis’ ears over the sound of skin meeting slick skin.

When he didn't stop, she had to assume it was. And thank God for that, because she was cresting the edge, staring into the abyss. It looked exactly like Travis’ eyes: dark and unending. And she was falling down, down, down.

Laura could make no more noise, the whimper cutting out like someone had reached into her throat and cut it off at the source. Instead, the sound of Travis’ laboured breathing was all there was as her body shook through her orgasm, squeezing his cock in time to his exhalations.

“Good,” he praised. “Can you give me one more?”

She couldn't answer even if she wanted to. Laura’s body felt out of her control entirely.

“You can give me one more,” Travis answered for her.

He leaned down onto his forearms, his front pressing against her back. The buttons from his shirt pressed into her sweat-drenched skin. Their pace slowed, though the intensity refused to wane. He was still reaching just as deep, her cunt stretched to accommodate.

“Why?” Laura managed to rasp. She even managed a smile, though she didn't know if Travis could see it.

“Why?” he echoed.

“Why should I give you one more?”

His voice came right beside her ear. Laura could feel his stubble against her cheekbone.

“Because I play all your games,” he whispered.

Laura nodded, “You do, you play along so well.”

“Fuck you like you need.”

“Better than anyone else, baby.”

“I…I…”

Sacrine salvia flooded Laura’s mouth, a little of it leaked onto the bed.

“I deserve to feel you milk my cock.”

Laura mewled, she was so proud of him.

“Mhmm, what else?” she begged.

“Wanna watch you take all of me, make it look easy because you’re drippin’ and boneless.”

The muscles in her legs started to quiver.

“Trav,” whimpered Laura. Anticipation lapped at her exhausted body, teasing an orgasm that she wasn’t sure she could handle.

“To feel how I’ve hollowed you out. Then fill you to the brim until it can only leak down your fuckin’ beautiful thighs. God, the sight of you freshly fucked, darlin’, you have no idea.”

The drawl was thick and warm.

So fucking worth the effort, Laura thought as she came, the words washing over her in tandem with every muscle in her body contracting.

Travis bit gently on the shell of her ear while the aftershocks pulsed through her.

“Trav,” Laura repeated. She couldn't stop the awestruck tone. “Fuck, baby.”

“Knew you could do it,” he murmured, momentarily stilling inside her to kiss the crown of her head.

“I’ll do whatever you want.”

“We both know that’s a lie,” he chuckled.

“It’s true for the next five minutes,” she slurred.

His cock twitched, and Laura rocked back against him. Travis moved to meet her, picking up where they were moments ago. Laura choked on a sob, still so sensitive. Travis’ large hand reached across her jaw, passing through the trail of drool to cover her mouth.

“Shh,” he ordered, the steely teeth back. Biting and sharp.

She nodded into his hand. Travis grunted his approval as he pushed in further. Laura took, because she was lucky enough to be with someone who gave. Because it hadn’t always been that way. Because they could be good for each other starting tonight.

Something shifted in the air, and Laura knew Travis tasted the sweet flavour of being someone’s first choice. She whispered it against his palm, tasting it on his skin.

Travis came holding Laura close, pressing her into the mattress. She was silent, he was not.

He rolled off her and onto his back. Laura followed, nestling into the space against his ribs.

He made a move to hold her, but his hand stilled in the air. Instead, Travis reached over the nightstand, and Laura heard his hand knock into the alarm clock and lamp before landing on his target. Rolling back, he opened up his wallet and passed it to Laura.

Confused, she took it in both hands. A driver's license, some credit cards. A few crumpled bills. She wasn't seeing anything out of the ordinary.

Then she spotted it. A glossy white corner peaking out from behind his license. She pinched it and gently pulled. A Polaroid came into view.

And there she was, staring back at herself. Travis had seen the camera in the window of North  Kill’s thriving pawn shop and had shyly presented it to her. A low-stakes way to start taking those nature photographs she always talked about, he said.

Laura had probably taken at least a dozen of the two of them that weekend, only remembering to snap a picture of any wildlife once or twice.

In this one, they were lying in bed, Laura’s left hand holding the camera high in the air. She was laughing. Laughing at Travis, who was trying to pull the sheet up high enough to cover her breasts. Not an easy feat to do while also shielding himself from the flash. He had ducked into her neck, trying in vain to hide in the hair fanned across the pillow. Even still, she caught the faintest hint of a smile on his face.

“You keep the important ones in the wallet,” Travis explained, taking it back from her and carefully tucking the photo back into its sleeve.

“I thought I lost that one.”

“You took so many photos that night, I didn't think you'd miss it.”

“Why'd you choose that one? 'Cause of the side boob?” Laura giggled.

“No, I'm not a teenage boy.” He paused. “You look happy.”

“I was. I am.”

He looked like he was starting to believe her.

It was Laura’s turn to turn away, finding her jean jacket on the floor where she left it. She pulled her phone out of the pocket and rolled onto her back.

Peeling the case away, Laura revealed a Polaroid of her own, kept safe between the plastic and metal.

“You can also keep them on your phone. I was looking for that one,” she pointed at his wallet, “but I like this one, too.”

Hers was taken moments after. It was blurry, because Laura had made a move to plant a kiss on Travis while still holding the camera. She had barely succeeded, her arm falling too far to the side so their faces were nearly out of frame. Still, their smiles were visible.

“Wanna trade?” she asked, throwing her arm over Travis’ chest and nuzzling against his cheek.

“No way,” Travis said, holding his wallet safely out of reach. “Mine has the–what did you call it? Side boob?”

Laura laughed and nipped at his jaw. She could feel the sugar settling between her teeth, certain it was there to stay.
