Work Text:
Sebastian went through hell and back, and yet it wasn't enough.
He escaped death yet still entered hell, and it was all for naught. After being torn up countless times and disfigured to the point where he didn't even recognize himself anymore. And with the change of appearance, he himself changed as well. He originally tried to push through with a smile, but he soon grew cold. How could he stay himself when he was being treated like a science experiment, like an animal in a zoo being used for entertainment. He soon just decided to play the part.
His body didn't fit him anymore. He wasn't himself anymore, he just felt like a husk. A shriveled up comparison to who he was. He hated himself, he hated choosing to live. Dying would've been a better fate than having being cut open become a daily occurrence for years straight.
Sebastian could feel the impression of blades splitting him open even when he was healing from the last little experiment. The blood trickled down as he screamed for mercy, yet it fell onto deaf ears. Some procedures required him to be conscious, like when they cut open his heart to exchange it for one that could supply the sheer amount of blood. He could've sworn that people didn't need to be conscious during heart surgery, if it was true, it meant that they just were sadistic assholes that took pleasure in his pain. But alas, his body just became immune to such substances.
The surgeries soon came to a pause. Instead, Sebastian was offered a job in maintenance. He was a major in engineering and was quick with his hands, and his new form allowed him to work underwater. And boy, did Urbanshade put him to use.
He didn't mind though, it was the closest to freedom he ever got. Out in the depths it was only him, his thoughts, and the monsters in the depths. But he never had a problem with them, because he was now a monster as well.
Sebastian found solace in his craft, so might as well perform for the audience.
Sebastian curled up within his cage. Sure it was better than what he had before, for some reason he got his living style upgraded a few years ago. He couldn't be bothered to appreciate it to its full extent. It was just a change of format, his cage going from brass to being gilded in gold.
When Sebastian had first arrived in this new space, he tore it up in sheer frustration. The employees weren't bothered to fix it. He wasn't either, what difference did it make? His bed was torn to pieces before he even set himself down on it. Now, it was just him and the cold hard floor.
For now at least. Sebastian had a plan under the works. With his job, came a trickle of income. And his compliance meant a resemblance of freedom. He worked hard for two years to get another promotion, and that meant he’d have to get transported to a new area for work. And the last few times that happened, they thought a simple tranq would work. It seems that the information was buried due to negligence, and he was going to exploit the fact.
He was restrained securely the last few times he got transported, so he didn't think it was worth the fight. He just put on a charade that the tranq worked, and they fell for it. Each success meant one more bound unlatched Sebastian knew that this time he could break free easily. And when he was out, he was going to rain hellfire upon them.
Being vindictive was only fair for the misery he went through because of them.
This was it. After years of careful planning, Sebastian Solace was going to make his last attempt at freedom. Even if his escape proved futile, he was going to drag the entirety of the blackside down with him. He jolted when a persistent knocking drilled into the room.
”Z-13, approach and place your hands through the slots in the door.”
He got up with a groan, he hated being just a number. But he set the disdain aside and started surveying the room with a sentimental gaze. He hated this space, but it housed him for a while. Hopefully it was the last. Sebastian's scales scraped together as he slithered over to the exit. He was built for swimming in the water now, and when he couldn't for extended periods of time his scales got painfully dry.
He grunted in pain, but he trudged through. He’s had worse, he could handle a little irritation. He grumbles as he puts his hands through the three slots in the door, and with a click, his fists are closed shut. It was basic procedure, but it sealed the fact that everyone saw him as a threat. With the false security, the guard unlocks the door and it opens with a low whine. Sebastian's gaze lands on a somewhat scrawny guard that gulps at the sight of him and he almost scoffs.
If he wanted to, the fishman could easily snap him in half just with a little swipe of his tail. He was thirsting for blood as well. Yet, he held back. Killing this man would only cause him to be caught red handed. He’d barely make it a meter before he was captured. With a sigh, he resigned to follow the escort.
Sebastian was led into an empty room through the guidance of bones. Whom he affectionately referred to as such because of the lack of fat on his bony body. He couldn't be bothered to learn the name of such pathetic filth. Demeaning nicknames was part of the way he coped in this cruel, cruel world.
A figure in a white coat stepped out of a door parallel to the one the serpentine creature slid out of. He nearly growled at the sight, he hated those fuckers. He wished he could tear them limb from limb and bathe in their blood. But the only sign of resentment he showed was of the fins on his head drawing back, and his mouth forming into a grimace
”Z-13, do not fight what is about to happen. If you dare to try, we will use force. And you know what force means.”
Sebastian's mouth drew back into a snarl, he wanted to scream at them to not call him that. He was Sebastian.. Right?
He wasn't a designation, but the years of neglect of his name made him doubt it. The only thing that stopped him from snapping was the prospect of freedom. He glared as the labcoat walked over with a syringe, Sebastian's lips drew back to show his sharp teeth. He was poised to pounce, but just before he did a jolt went through him. He got fucking electrocuted by the guard, he wanted to rip, to tear his face off for doing that. The angler raised his claw, but was cut off by a syringe entering his side.
He had to consciously calm himself the fuck down and fall limp, he couldn’t fuck this up.
It took six guards to hoist him up to a moving platform and Sebastian felt himself drift. Not because of the tranq, he was immune to that. But he was pulled by the familiar sensation of dissociation. He’s mastered it over the decade. His thoughts grew dull and numb as he let himself get pulled around the blacksite. It felt like he was floating in the sea, it was kind of peaceful.
But he knew he had to draw himself out and pay attention.
When he peeked one of his eyes open, he only saw one guard. And elite guardsmen too, he could tell because of the card that was settled at their waist. It would give him access to the whole blacksite. They did have a high power semi-automatic on them though, he had to remove that.
Now was the time to strike. When the elite guardsman had their back turned, Sebastian slammed his tail into them, throwing them to the wall. They wheezed in pain as he broke out of his restraints. The angler's eyes settled on the guard as they tried to haul themselves away from the monster in front of them, their eyes wide with fear. They reached over to their gun, grunting in pain.
Sebastian lunged forward and took the gun before the guard could, turning it on them and blasting their brains out. Blood splattered everywhere, and Sebastian felt a chunk of brain slap him in the face. The smell was delicious, and the fact revolted him. He couldn't help but subconsciously drool slightly.
The angler shook his head and snatched the keycard from the guard–as he had done with the gun, and bolted.
