It was two in the morning.
Endo Yamato was asleep in the staff room, not very soundly because patients could arrive at any time. Even the slightest call could startle him, let alone a hurried knock reporting an emergency. However, that night, what startled him was the vibration of his cell phone next to his head.
Endo grabbed the rectangular object, half-conscious, blinking in surprise when he saw Suo Hayato's name on the screen. What else could the police officer want at this time of night?
"Hello...?"
"Aha, sorry to bother you, Endo-san, I have something to ask you~"
"If it's your teacup that you left behind, I put it on the bottom right shelf of the cupboard—"
Suo chuckled. "Well, that's not it!" he protested loudly. "Between a gunshot wound to the shoulder and one to the thigh, which should be treated first?"
Endo felt his drowsiness disappear instantly, more effectively than any coffee he had ever drunk. "You're hurt?!"
"Huh?"
"Where--"
"No, no, it's not me. Some of these criminals are really troublesome, so I had to fire a shot, and..."
Oh.
Endo sat back down, feeling that the strong pounding in his heart was just unnecessary panic. "They're criminals, right? Just let them bleed to death."
"Hey, hey, those aren't the words of a doctor~"
