Chapter Text
Megumi Zenin was born with everything. From the day he was brought into this world he’s had everything he could possibly want in the palm of his hand. He was never forced into doing anything he didn’t want. Even from birth the entire clan was his. Simply just because he existed. So it had been displeasing that his relatives were suddenly urging him to find a ‘wife.’
“You’re of age and if you want to be taken seriously as the clan head you’ll have to take a bride,” His father reasoned, Megumi rolled his eyes at that. “Take?” Megumi mocked. Toji laughed lightly at his son’s snark, “Fine. You’ll have a mutual consent of marriage with the said bride, happy?” Megumi smirked mirrored that of his father’s, “Overjoyed even.”
“If you wish I’ll have a list of eligible candidates ready for you in the morning,” His green haired cousin offered beside him, head bowed in respect. “You’re our future clan head, Megumi. Toji is three drinks away from kicking the bucket,” His other cousin, Maki joked lightheartedly. It earned her a glass cup thrown at her from across the table, to which she caught with ease. “I’ve got at least five before I croak, bitch”
“I’ll see to it that you’ll have that list for me, Naoya,” Megumi accepted the previous offer amidst their bickering. Naoya seemed to beam at that, he gave Megumi a curt nod before writing away at a piece of paper situated in front of him. Every dip of ink leaving a small trail of black.
“What about that Inumaki boy? He seems like your type,” Jinichi supplied, trying to be helpful. Again, trying to. Maki suppressed her laugh at Megumi’s obvious disgust, “If you want me to be brutally murdered then sure.” Toji merely raised an eyebrow at his son’s over dramatics. “I believe the boy you speak of has been getting courted by the Gojo Clan’s Yuuta Okkotsu,” Ranta supplied helpfully. “Ever since I’ve known Yuuta, Toge has been in his sights, the poor boy,” Maki snickered at the fond memories of their childhood.
“If it’s been that long and he still hasn’t accepted Yuuta’s advances then why not try yourself? He’s a beautiful boy if I must admit,” Mai finally added to the conversation. “Yeah beautiful and totally off limits. The only reason why Toge hasn’t accepted his courtship is because of his father. He forbids him marrying Yuuta,” Maki explained. “Well I’m too fond of Megumi marrying someone from the Gojo clan either,” Toji admitted. Everyone agreed in silence, their relationship with the Gojo clan has been patched up but their hatred remains rooted deep within their blood.
“Someone from the Kamo family, perhaps?” Naoya offered his input once more. “Noritoshi would be the only suitable candidate and seeing as he and Megumi don’t particularly get along, I think not.” Mai and Maki chuckled together as they whispered between themselves of the memories of Noritoshi and Megumi trying to rip each other’s throats out. Megumi touches the scar from above his kimono that lays on his forearm from the arrow shot across his skin. Toji tries his best to suppress his own smile at the memory of having to pry his son off the poor boy, mouth holding a chunk skin that belonged to the Kamo family’s youngest. He was such a menace in his childhood.
“May I purpose a family of lower status?” Maki asked skeptical of the reactions around her. Naoya seemed immediately appalled by a look of pure offense, Mai was intrigued with her words, Toji gave her the cue to continue. “Nobara is good friends with a candidate suitable for you, like I said he’s of a lower status, but his family isn’t disgraced, simply just climbing up the ranks.” If Nobara was well acquainted with this said candidate then Megumi wasn’t opposed to the idea. He trusted Maki’s wife, she herself was from a lowly family, but she proved her maiden name does not define her worth.
“Someone of a lower class would be easier to wed,” His uncle reasoned. Ranta seemingly agreeing with his own input, “If the family is climbing ranks then that means they’d love a marriage offer due to our standing.” Toji was thinking to himself before he spoke aloud, “Who is the family? Depending on how high their rank is currently, they might even kick the Kamo family down a peg, a new big three wouldn’t be awful.”
“The Itadori Family.”
And the whole room went silent. Mai sucked in a breath, Jinichi went stiff, Naoya was close to shouting every single insult he was struggling to suppress, Toji smiled wide and manically, Ranta bit at his nails in discomfort, Maki remained calm, having predicted this kind of reaction, she calmly held a cup to her lips, one hand supporting from the bottom the other holding at the handle. Her sipping was the only sound that filled the room.
“Sukuna’s youngest brother correct?” Megumi broke the silence, Nagoya flipped to him, mouth still agape. “You can’t be seri—!” Toji’s raised hand silenced the green haired Zenin. “Correct,” Maki answered simply, she put her cup down, any question Megumi could ask, she was sure she could answer.
“The one who hasn’t ever been seen in public? The same one you say your wife is well acquainted with?” Megumi at least knew the previously mentioned candidates, but he hasn’t so much as seen this one. “My wife speaks highly of him, yes.” Maki nodded “Name,” “Yuuji Itadori,” Maki answered with the same haste.
Megumi can’t believe he’s really entertaining this. “Is he pretty?” He asks with a smile. Maki matches his expression, the skin around her lips crinkling with lines as her mouth turns upwards, “He’s said to be gorgeous.”
Megumi lets out a loud laugh at that.
“It’s decided,” He turns to the rest of his family, from the head of the table he announces,
“Yuuji Itadori will be my wife.”
