Laudna lay on her back and stared up at the ceiling of the room they were staying in. Everyone else had already fallen asleep, but she was too wired to sleep. They’d fought a hard battle earlier and then had a long trek before they finally got to somewhere to pass out.
And everyone else did, but Laudna couldn’t fall asleep. Instead she was watching the faint dancing lights cast across the ceiling thanks to Ashton’s brain. It had only gotten brighter since they tried to sacrifice themselves in the ritual to save the gods.
Tonight, shades of blue dominated the kaleidoscopic lights. Deep cerulean and light cyan washed across the whole room, steadily shifting between a narrow range of hues. Ribbons of red seemed to float across and spots of purple faded in and out. It changed much slower than when they were awake. Right now it was rather soothing.
It helped to ease her anxiety about the meeting they were making their way to. They had received word from Beau about a Cobalt Reserve monk who had information on Ludinus and the rest of the group seemed fine but it was in a city. A civilized city. And even though she had warm skin again, she still feared the reactions of townsfolk to her appearance.
Ashton shifted slightly in their sleep and the lights flashed with sparks of green. Laudna refocused on the colors. Maybe she wouldn’t sleep, but watching the colors could be calming in their own right.
