Beneath Lavender Eyes

Summary:

What happens when Danzo goes for the Hyuga Clan instead of the Uchihas? Sure, he wanted Izanagi, but what if he thought the Hyugas were more threatening in all their child-enslaving glory, instead of the Uchihas in their self-inflicted Curse of Hatred? I mean, most people did think that they released Kurama on the village.
This is also an excuse to write a Hyuga SI, 'cause those are so rare.

Chapter Text

Hundreds of pairs of eyes watched her, all the palest shade of lavender. Some held intrigue for the child—a prodigy minutes away from receiving the Caged Bird Seal. Others held thinly veiled disdain for her very existence.

Her Kekkei Genkai, the Byakugan, though only recently awakened, had already been deemed more valuable than her life. Her lavender eyes.

The seal would erase it entirely—and her with it—should she ever fall into enemy hands.

Some distance away, her father cradled her baby brother. His pale lavender eyes followed everything with quiet curiosity, unaware that the same fate waited patiently for him.

She forced the thought away.

Neji would never be branded. Not if she could help it.

The courtyard fell silent as Hiashi Hyūga approached, his ceremonial robes brushing the stone like a whisper. Behind him, elders of the clan formed a half circle, their pale eyes fixed on the child standing alone in the center.

A brazier burned between them, thin threads of smoke curling lazily into the air.

Across the courtyard, one of the elders yawned.

The small, careless sound shattered the fragile solemnity of the moment.

Of course they don’t care, Suzume thought bitterly. The moment that will define my life is nothing more than a dull ceremony to them.

Her father had warned her.

You are a nuisance to them. Nothing more.

One of the elders stepped forward and unfolded a narrow scroll. Inked symbols spiraled across the parchment—intricate sealing formulas written in tight, precise strokes.

Hiashi lifted a brush and dipped it carefully into a pot of chakra-reactive ink.

The courtyard held its breath.

The brush touched her skin.

Cold ink traced across her forehead, forming the cross and curling lines of the Caged Bird.

Hiashi’s hands moved into a series of seals.

Snake.

Boar.

Dragon.

The symbols on the scroll began to glow faintly.

A ripple of chakra spread across the courtyard like a sudden winter wind.

“This seal,” an elder intoned, his voice echoing across the stone, “protects the Hyūga bloodline.”

Hiashi raised his hand.

His Byakugan flared to life, veins rising sharply at his temples.

For the briefest moment, his voice dropped low enough that only she could hear.

“Forgive me.”

His fingers touched her forehead.

For a heartbeat, nothing happened.

Then the chakra surged.

Pain exploded across her skin.

The markings ignited, black lines spreading outward like shattered glass before locking into the familiar crest of the Caged Bird.

The mild sting became a wildfire.

Heat tore through her skull, through her chakra, through her very bones. It felt as though something unseen was carving chains directly into her soul.

Everything was burning.

Everything-

Then, just as suddenly, the pain vanished.

The courtyard returned in a rush of sound and breath, and she collapsed, exhausted.

The ritual was complete.

Hiashi lowered his hand.

For a fleeting instant, she thought she saw something on his face.

Guilt.

Impossible.

“The seal has taken root,” he said.

Murmurs rippled through the gathered clan.

Across the courtyard, the infant in the Hizashi’s arms blinked curiously.

Neji’s pale eyes followed the ceremony, wide and uncomprehending.

Suzume pressed her lips together.

Not him.

No matter what the clan decreed, she swore silently-

Neji would never wear the cage.

Constructive criticism is welcome. Just don't be rude. Also comment! This is my first piece of writing. So yeah. Enjoy.
