Work Text:
That was when she realized. Staring at the devastation being reeked upon these campers that were basically her only family at this point.
She’d always known they were basically just child soldiers to the gods. Easy labor because they “apparently” couldn’t mess with the mortal world.
Yeah sure. Because there were definitely no instances of gods literally interfering with so many different quests.
“B-but there are rules.” The gods would say. Were they not the creators of law, order, and the workings of the universe? Had they not overthrown the previous leaders and proven they could do whatever they wanted? Could they seriously not just rewrite the rules so that they could deal with their own fucking problems? Why in hades was it up to a bunch of children to stop the universe from perishing?
She’d had this rant to herself in a whisper at the back of her cabin many times before, but looking over the hill she’d spent many days on, avoiding capture the flag, now completely soaked with bloodstains, she snapped.
She realized that not only were there literal children being murdered in front of her with literal gods knowing, and not doing a dam thing about it, but that the children were being forced to grow up too quickly.
Every child of the gods had been surviving on their own since coming to camp. They’d always had the help of other campers but those campers were at best the age of college students. And the only adults in this camp either didn’t care or were so used to death that all he fucking said when someone died was “a loss of life really is a shame isn’t it?”
They’d all been forced to be adults since they were young, with the latest kids arrived being around fifteen.
Especially the Apollo cabin. Most had been working in the clinics since they arrived at camp. While some weren’t great at it, the ones who worked there consistently enough were acting like full blown er surgeons with medical degrees when they were barely old enough to be in high school.
It was ridiculous! She understood that Hermes kid and that nemesis kid and all the others too. She understood why they left now.
It was time for her to leave too. It was time for her to join them in their fight against the gods.
