It all went so fast. One moment, Grace was talking to Leon, right in front of him with Emily all nice and cozy in her arms, head on her shoulder, and the next, the two girls fell on the ground, a bullet in the silver's forehead and a knife cutting clean the blonde's throat. Leon acted as fast as he could, despite the scream and tears that escaped him, catching them and putting them gently on the ground, then got his gun out and shot whatever was responsible. He didn't care who or what did it, all he wanted was it annihilated.
Now sure nothing was around, he didn't bother taking care of his gun, he threw it aside and fell on his knees next to the two figures bathed in blood. Grace was still alive, but not for long. Emily was long gone. She tried talking, but only thing that got out was a gaggle and more blood pouring from the wound. He took her in his arms, settiling both of the bodies against him, like trying to protect them one last time.
"Shh, it's gonna be alright, kiddo, stay with me, come on, we're gonna get out," Leon was trying to comfort, while Grace was cradled in his arms, the gash in her throat keeping her from talking, or even breathing, loosing blood at a rapid pace. He was holding her throat with one hand, trying to stop the blood loss, but even the black of his glove was tainted red. Emily was limp in Grace's arms, her last tears rolling down cheeks that were gloomly cold.
Then Grace lifted a hand, trembling and weak. Faced with the reality that there was nothing he could do, his hand left her throat and held hers tightly. He shook her, trying to keep her awake, still trying.
"I'm sorry, I failed again," as her eyes became glassy, as tears rolled down one last time, as her body relaxed completely in Death's hold.
And he cried, letting go of her hand to hold them both close.
He failed. Again. He couldn't save them. He can't save anyone. Those eyes that looked at him with hope were hollow, were dead. It was all his fault. Again and again, he will never be strong enough.
He was never enough for anyone. They all died because of him.
