Dead Life

Summary:

In a world where death doesn’t mean the end, something far worse lingers in its wake.

Hearts don’t stop, they’re taken. And the line between who you are and what you’re made to become slowly disappears.

Pearl is pulled into a cycle she can’t escape, bound to something that watches, waits, and uses. As Martyn and Jimmy begin to unravel the truth behind the game, it becomes clear:

Some hungers don’t end.

They watch.

Chapter 1: He Knows What He Did

Chapter Text

When they took Grian from EVO he was terrified. That they’d break their promise and hurt his friends. That they’d hurt him just so they’d have someone to feed them player emotions for their empty yet infinite selves for eternity.

But they didn’t.

They instead grabbed his code, stretched it till it couldn’t no more and then injected it with their own. They changed him forever in ways his mind could never comprehend. For a second he understood their hunger, their need to feed on player emotions, their desire for chaos and getting their victim’s motives. He tried explaining, be it by human words or thought sharing, what the motives could’ve been and how emotion or bonds influence that kind of thing.

But he left lonely. So he asked to go back.

And they let him.

But with a deal.

Him and his friends would have to participate in death games designed by the godling. He could pick the rules and the terms, but it had to happen. No one had to get hurt permanently.

So the godling accepted, appearing in the hub for the first time in ages. He appeared and lied to everyone where he’d been, saying he didn’t remember. He decided he’d start anew with people who couldn’t possibly figure out what happened to him.

That’s when he met Mumbo Jumbo. They quickly became friends, the redstoner often mentioning that he was part of a private server and that maybe he could get Grian in. When he went to check his mail he saw that there had been an invitation from the admin of Hermitcraft, Xisuma himself, to join their odd crew.

He said yes, of course.

And just like that…

He was a Hermit.

He hadn’t been expecting them to fetch his old friends or siblings to these games. He hadn’t expected them to ask for more complex ideas. He wanted no one to be traumatized from these games, yet he wasn’t allowed to keep their memories away. They all remembered.

But to his surprise they welcomed the weirdness of it all. He guesses they’ve always been at the whims of gods. They didn’t even get mad at eachother over betrayals or anything of the sort, they all agreed that what happened in the games stayed in the games.

The guilt eats him alive at night.
