Between The Lines

Act I - The Clash Begins
The Captain & The Titans
The late afternoon sun turns the training ground into a sheet of gold and green. Freshly cut grass glistens beneath the light, every white boundary line crisp against the turf. The air carries the familiar scent of grass, sweat, and effort as Seoul Titans move through another demanding session, boots pounding rhythmically across the field.
Taehyung drives through midfield with long, fluid strides, the ball staying close to his feet as he pushes forward. Sweat darkens the collar of his training jersey, and loose strands of hair fall across his forehead before the breeze lifts them away again. The field opens in front of him. He takes another touch, drawing a defender toward him, shifts his weight, and strikes.
The crack of the shot cuts across the pitch.
The ball rockets past Han and buries itself in the top corner of the net.
Cheers rise from around the field.
Taehyung slows to a jog, a grin pulling at his mouth as the rush of the play settles into satisfaction. Jimin reaches him first, crossing the distance with bright energy written all over his face.
“That was beautiful,” Jimin says, raising a hand.
Taehyung meets it with a firm high five.
“You left Minho behind like he was standing still.”
Taehyung laughs. “He was.”
Yoongi approaches from midfield, lifting a hand in approval. His expression remains characteristically composed, but the small nod he gives carries more weight than most people's enthusiastic praise.
“Clean strike,” Yoongi says. “Good timing.”
Hoseok arrives moments later, jogging over with his usual animated energy. He claps once and points toward the goal.
“If you score like that at the championship, the fans will lose their minds.”
Nearby, Chan jogs backward while tossing a ball lightly between his hands. Reliable and steady, he often becomes the team's unofficial problem solver whenever emotions start running ahead of common sense. Minho stands beside him stretching his calves, competitive determination shining in his eyes even during training.
Hyunjin pushes damp hair away from his face and studies the field with the focus of someone examining a piece of art rather than a football match. Han finally rises from the grass in front of the goal and starts making his way back toward the group after becoming the latest victim of his captain's shooting accuracy.
Soobin stands nearby, broad-shouldered and towering over most of the team, his calm presence balancing the collection of strong personalities gathered around him. Yeonjun drapes an arm across Soobin's shoulder and whistles toward Taehyung.
“Captain showing off again,” he calls.
Taehyung shakes his head.
“Focus on your own passing.”
Yeonjun grins.
“My passing is flawless.”
“Your passing is dramatic,” Yoongi replies.
The resulting laughter ripples through the group.
Near the sideline, Namjoon watches everything with a tactics board tucked beneath one arm. His attention rarely strays far from the field. While the players recover from the drill, his gaze moves across formations and positioning, already making adjustments in his head.
“Reset positions,” he calls.
His voice carries easily across the pitch.
“We run the play again. Faster transitions this time. Taehyung, control the tempo through midfield.”
Taehyung raises a hand in acknowledgment.
Namjoon steps forward and begins drawing fresh arrows across the tactics board.
“The moment you break their defensive line, the striker moves into space here. Timing matters. If the pass comes too early, the defense closes the gap.”
He taps the board once.
“Precision wins matches.”
A set of hurried footsteps approaches from behind before he can continue.
Seokjin appears at the edge of the field, slightly out of breath and visibly energized. His suit jacket hangs open as he jogs toward Namjoon, his phone still clutched in one hand.
Namjoon lowers the board.
“Everything alright?”
Seokjin stops beside him, excitement bright in his eyes.
“We secured him.”
Namjoon's brows lift.
“Secured who?”
Seokjin arches an eyebrow.
“The striker you have been begging management to sign for the last three months.”
Understanding settles across Namjoon's face.
“Jeon Jungkook.”
Seokjin nods, looking entirely pleased with himself.
“The contract was cleared this morning. He joins the team today.”
A slow breath leaves Namjoon as weeks of negotiations finally loosen their grip on his shoulders.
They have chased that name through scouting reports, meetings, transfer discussions, and endless conversations with management.
Jeon Jungkook.
The rising striker tearing through the league with relentless speed and a talent for finding the back of the net from angles that seem impossible.
At first, the Titans viewed him as a distant possibility. A player worth admiring, but unlikely to sign.
That changed three weeks ago.
Felix collapsed during a match.
The sight alone had been enough to turn every stomach in the stadium. He stayed on the ground clutching his leg while medical staff rushed onto the field.
The diagnosis that followed confirmed everyone's fears.
Out for the tournament.
Their primary striker gone weeks before the most important stretch of the season.
Since that day, Namjoon has spent countless hours searching for an answer.
Now Seokjin stands beside him holding exactly that.
Namjoon's gaze drifts back to the field where Taehyung and the others are moving into position for the next drill.
“Does the team know?”
“Not yet,” Seokjin says with a faint smile.
Namjoon considers the news while watching his players spread out across the pitch.
“Good.”
He folds the tactics board closed.
“Let's introduce him properly.”
Out on the field, Taehyung jogs back into position, completely unaware that the shape of the team is about to change.
A new striker is already on his way.
A player whose goals have become highlight reels across the league.
A player who attacks every match as though failure has never been part of the conversation.
Jeon Jungkook.
Very soon, he will step onto this field.
,
Two days later, the Titans locker room settles into its familiar pre-training rhythm. Gear bags lie open across the benches, jerseys hang from metal hooks along the walls, and the steady murmur of conversation fills the space as players finish taping ankles, adjusting shin guards, and preparing for another session on the pitch.
Hoseok leans back against his locker, scrolling through music on his phone. A bright beat spills from the speaker before he wrinkles his nose and skips to the next track.
“That one is terrible,” Minho says from across the room.
“You have no taste,” Hoseok replies without lifting his eyes from the screen.
Yeonjun lounges beside Soobin, balancing a football on one finger and spinning it lazily.
“I still say the captain peaked with that goal two days ago,” he says. “Everything after that has been downhill.”
A few lockers away, Taehyung sits bent over his boots, tightening the laces with practiced focus.
“Then try scoring one yourself,” he answers calmly.
Jimin lets out an amused snort while wrapping fresh tape around his wrist.
“You invited that response.”
Yoongi sits beside him, carefully securing the tape around his ankle.
“Yeonjun invites most of the responses he receives.”
Laughter drifts through the room.
Near the mirrors, Hyunjin runs a hand through his hair before gathering it back into place. Chan stands by the whiteboard studying the day's training schedule written in thick black marker. Soobin stretches near the doorway, his broad frame making everyone around him appear smaller, while Han leans against a row of lockers rolling his shoulders before pulling on his goalkeeper gloves.
The atmosphere feels easy and familiar, shaped by months of shared practices, victories, losses, and endless hours spent together. Conversations overlap. Someone tosses a roll of tape across the room. Hoseok argues with Minho about music choices while Yeonjun continues insisting that his passing remains criminally underappreciated.
The locker room door opens.
The shift is subtle at first. A few heads turn toward the entrance. Conversations begin to trail off as attention drifts in the same direction.
Namjoon steps inside with his usual composed authority, his posture straight and his expression unreadable. Seokjin follows beside him, dressed in a crisp dark jacket and carrying a small stack of folded training gear against his chest.
Between them walks someone new.
The Star Striker
Jeon Jungkook moves with the quiet confidence of someone accustomed to drawing attention without asking for it. He is tall and lean, built with the balanced strength of a professional athlete. The fitted training jacket stretches across broad shoulders and strong arms, and dark hair falls loosely across his forehead, softening features already familiar to everyone in the room.
Small silver rings catch the light along one ear. Another piercing glints beneath his lower lip when he shifts his head slightly. The sleeves of his jacket are pushed back enough to reveal the edges of intricate tattoos winding across his forearm before disappearing beneath the fabric again.
A hush settles over the locker room as players take him in.
Even Yeonjun's football slips still in his hands.
Every person here recognizes him.
Jeon Jungkook.
The striker whose goals dominate sports broadcasts, highlight reels, and endless online discussions.
Namjoon steps forward and claps his hands once, pulling the room out of its collective staring.
“Alright,” he says. “Listen up.”
Players drift closer, gathering around him. Jungkook remains relaxed beside the coach, his hands resting loosely in his pockets while his gaze moves across the room, taking in faces, lockers, and the atmosphere of his new team.
Namjoon gestures toward the group.
“You all know why we brought him here. But introductions still matter.”
He nods toward the nearest player.
“Park Jimin. Left winger. Fastest player on the team and the one most likely to start celebrations before the goal is fully confirmed.”
Jimin grins and raises a hand.
“Nice to finally meet you.”
Namjoon shifts his attention.
“Min Yoongi. Defensive midfielder. If he tells you to move, you move.”
Yoongi offers a small nod from his seat.
“Welcome to the Titans.”
“Hoseok,” Namjoon continues, gesturing toward the next locker. “Right winger. Energy level impossible to reduce.”
Hoseok gives an exaggerated salute.
“I promise not to outrun you. Probably.”
A few laughs ripple through the room.
Namjoon points toward the players gathered near the wall.
“Chan. Reliable fullback.”
Chan steps forward enough to offer a firm handshake.
“Glad to have you here.”
“Minho. Defensive specialist.”
Minho crosses his arms and studies Jungkook openly.
“Let’s see if you’re actually as good as the clips.”
“Hyunjin. Creative winger.”
Hyunjin offers a graceful nod.
“And Soobin. Center back.”
Soobin lifts a large hand in greeting.
“Try not to run into me during practice.”
That earns another round of laughter.
Namjoon gestures toward the remaining players.
“Yeonjun. Attacking midfielder.”
Yeonjun tilts his head.
“Your goals are impressive. Try to keep them coming now that you’re on our side.”
Namjoon nods toward the goalkeeper.
“Han. The guy responsible for cleaning up everyone else’s mistakes.”
Han flashes a grin while adjusting his gloves.
“Looking forward to seeing what our new striker can do.”
The introductions continue easily until Namjoon's attention shifts toward the center of the room.
“And this,” he says, his voice carrying a touch more weight, “is Kim Taehyung. Our captain.”
Taehyung rises from the bench.
The training jersey he changed into earlier sits comfortably across his shoulders. Beside him, the captain's armband rests folded on the bench, waiting for the session ahead. He steps forward with the steady confidence of someone who has long since grown accustomed to leading the room.
Around them, conversations fade as players turn their attention toward the meeting.
Jungkook straightens slightly.
The distance between them closes.
Taehyung extends his hand.
“Welcome to the Titans.”
Jungkook takes it.
Their handshake is firm, professional, exactly what anyone watching would expect. Yet the brief contact carries an unexpected awareness, a sharp flicker of assessment passing between them as each measures the other.
Taehyung withdraws his hand first.
“You will fit in quickly if you follow the plays.”
A faint smile touches Jungkook's mouth.
“I usually improve them.”
Several heads turn.
Yeonjun lets out an impressed whistle.
Minho raises an eyebrow.
Jimin bites back a grin.
Across the room, Yoongi leans against his locker and folds his arms.
“Try not to get injured,” he says evenly. “Our last striker already tried that.”
The comment draws a wave of laughter.
Even Jungkook's smile widens slightly.
Felix's absence remains part of the team's daily reality, but enough time has passed that the concern can occasionally be wrapped in humor instead of worry.
Before the conversation can wander any further, Seokjin steps forward carrying the folded gear.
“Your new kit,” he says, placing it into Jungkook's hands. “Official jersey, training shoes, locker assignment.”
Jungkook glances down at the jersey, running his thumb briefly across the club crest before nodding.
“Thank you.”
Namjoon claps his hands again.
“Enough introductions.”
The coach's voice settles firmly back into business.
“Everyone get ready. We start training in five minutes.”
The locker room springs back into motion. Benches scrape against the floor. Boots are tightened. Jerseys are adjusted. Conversations restart in overlapping bursts as players gather water bottles and training gear.
Near the doorway, Jungkook unzips his jacket and pulls the new jersey over his head. The red and black fabric settles naturally across his shoulders, transforming him from an outsider carrying a transfer contract into a member of the Titans.
Across the room, Taehyung's gaze lingers briefly before he turns toward the exit and heads for the field. The rest of the team follows around him, filling the hallway with easy chatter and familiar energy.
Jungkook falls into step behind them, his new kit still crisp, his place within the team still taking shape.
Training is about to begin, and with it comes the first real opportunity to see how one of the league's most talked-about strikers fits into a squad that already has a captain used to leading from the front. Both carry themselves with the easy confidence of players accustomed to pressure drawing the attention of everyone around them. The Titans may have gained a striker, yet the dynamic of the team has shifted in ways that remain impossible to predict.
,
The training field stretches wide beneath the bright afternoon sky, the grass still damp from the morning watering. White cones mark the edges of a practice formation, and two portable goals stand at opposite ends of the pitch waiting for the session to begin.
The Titans gather near the center, forming a loose semicircle around Namjoon. He balances a tactics board against his hip, marker moving steadily as he sketches out the formation. Around him, players shift their weight, rest hands on their hips, or bounce lightly on their heels to keep warm while listening.
“This is the attacking sequence we will practice today,” Namjoon says, drawing a series of lines across the board. “The midfield controls the tempo. We move the ball wide, pull the defense out of position, then break the line through the center.”
He taps one of the arrows.
“The pass must arrive here. That creates the opening for the striker.”
Taehyung studies the diagram before nodding.
“I’ll signal the switch. Watch my position. When I shift left, the winger moves forward and the striker runs into space.”
The team responds with murmurs of understanding.
Hoseok rolls the ball beneath his foot.
“Got it.”
Jimin stretches his shoulders.
“Let’s make it quick.”
Namjoon glances toward the sideline where Jungkook stands a few steps behind the group.
“For the opening round, Jungkook sits out,” he says. “Watch how the team moves.”
Jungkook nods.
“Alright.”
Players jog toward their positions while Namjoon retreats to the sideline. Jungkook joins him, folding his arms loosely across his chest as the formation spreads across the field.
Taehyung settles into the center.
Distance does little to diminish his presence. His voice carries easily across the pitch as he makes small adjustments before the drill begins.
“Soobin, drop a step back.”
Soobin shifts into position.
“Minho, watch the right side.”
Minho lifts a hand.
Taehyung's attention moves to Jimin.
“Wait for the signal before you run.”
Jimin nods.
A whistle cuts through the air.
The drill begins.
The ball moves quickly from one player to another. Chan passes forward. Yoongi intercepts the next touch and redirects play through midfield with the calm precision that has become second nature to him.
Taehyung receives the ball cleanly. His first touch cushions it perfectly before he pivots, his gaze sweeping across the field as he takes in every moving piece of the formation.
From the sideline, Jungkook follows the sequence.
At least, that is what he intends to do.
He tells himself he is studying the structure of the team. The spacing between defenders. The timing of the runs. The speed of the transitions. Every detail matters when joining a new squad.
Yet his attention keeps circling back to the same place.
Taehyung.
The captain moves through midfield with effortless control, guiding the flow of play through subtle adjustments in position. A few steps to the left create space. A turn of his shoulders redirects pressure. When he accelerates, teammates react around him with the ease of players who have spent months learning his rhythm.
Instructions leave his mouth without urgency or hesitation.
The field seems to organize itself around him.
Jungkook watches another sequence unfold. Taehyung cuts across the grass with long strides, the movement smooth and economical. The training jersey pulls lightly across broad shoulders when he turns, and every change in direction appears deliberate, measured, purposeful.
The ball arrives at his feet.
One touch.
A quick adjustment.
A sharp pass splits the defensive line.
Jimin explodes forward to meet it.
Jungkook shifts his stance.
Focus.
His gaze follows the run, tracks the movement of the defenders, and returns to the shape of the formation.
For several seconds, he succeeds.
The ball cycles through midfield again before finding its way back to Taehyung. He traps it effortlessly and redirects the attack, already reading the next movement before anyone else commits to it.
Jungkook releases a slow breath through his nose.
He is supposed to be studying the strategy.
The formation.
The leadership structure.
The way the team functions as a unit.
Instead, his attention keeps lingering on the captain at the center of it all.
A faint smile tugs at the corner of his mouth as he rubs the back of his neck.
Get a grip.
This is training.
Not a personal observation session.
Out on the field, Taehyung drives forward again, boots striking the turf with controlled force as he prepares the next sequence. Teammates shift around him, following the pattern he established earlier, and another attack begins to take shape.
Jungkook lifts his gaze and tries once more to focus on the drill itself.
The effort lasts all of ten seconds.
His eyes find the captain again.
This time, he gives up pretending it is an accident.
,
The sun hangs lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the training pitch. The grass carries the lingering scent of water and earth beneath the constant rhythm of boots striking turf. A light breeze drifts across the field as Namjoon gathers the team near the center circle once more.
The tactics board rests against his arm while the players form a loose ring around him.
Jungkook stands among them this time.
Namjoon sketches familiar lines across the board.
“We run the attacking sequence exactly as we practiced earlier,” he says, tapping the diagram. “Midfield sets the tempo. The striker breaks through when Taehyung opens the line.”
He lifts his gaze and looks around the group.
“This time Jungkook joins the formation.”
Several players exchange quick grins.
Yeonjun nudges Soobin with his elbow.
“Finally.”
Jimin rolls his shoulders, already looking eager for the next round.
“Let’s see what the hype looks like in real life.”
Taehyung steps forward beside Namjoon and studies the layout one last time.
“Same positions,” he says calmly. “Watch the signals.”
His eyes settle briefly on Jungkook.
“Timing matters.”
Jungkook holds his gaze for a second before giving a single nod.
The whistle slices through the afternoon air.
Play begins.
At the far end of the pitch, Han settles between the posts, bouncing lightly on the balls of his feet as he surveys the formation unfolding ahead of him.
“Alright,” he calls toward the defenders. “Try not to make my life miserable today.”
Minho glances over his shoulder.
“No promises.”
The ball moves quickly through the defensive line. Chan sends the opening pass forward while Minho pushes up from the opposite side. Yoongi intercepts the next touch and redirects the play through midfield with the quiet precision that anchors so much of the team's movement.
Taehyung receives the ball cleanly, cushioning it with his first touch before bringing it under control.
Jungkook starts his run.
For the opening minutes, he follows the structure exactly as instructed. Passes connect smoothly. Players rotate through their positions. The formation settles into a rhythm polished through months of training together.
Jimin tears down the left side of the field.
“Pass it, pass it, pass it!”
Hoseok laughs from the opposite wing while chasing the developing play.
“Stop yelling. We can see you.”
A few seconds later, Yeonjun attempts a flashy spin move that collapses halfway through execution.
Minho strips the ball from him with embarrassing ease.
“Show off later.”
“Art takes risks,” Yeonjun argues.
Soobin steps between them to intercept the return pass before the debate can continue, his calm efficiency cutting through the chaos as naturally as breathing.
Across the field, Taehyung shifts the tempo again.
“Reset. Move wide.”
The ball cycles through Yoongi before returning to Taehyung.
Jungkook moves with the formation, studying the spacing and timing while adjusting to the flow around him. Everything happens quickly. Every pass has purpose. Every movement creates space for the next one.
The Titans operate like a team that has spent countless hours learning each other's instincts.
Near the sideline, Namjoon watches with folded arms.
Seokjin stands beside him, sunglasses resting on the bridge of his nose despite the fading sunlight.
“They look good,” Seokjin says.
Namjoon nods.
“If they learn to trust each other, we have a real chance this season.”
Seokjin's attention shifts toward Jungkook weaving through the defensive line.
“Your new signing seems eager.”
“He always was.”
Out on the field, Jungkook accelerates toward midfield just as Taehyung traps the ball near the center circle.
Their timing intersects.
Taehyung shifts his weight, preparing the next pass.
Jungkook reaches in first.
The ball slips cleanly out of Taehyung's control.
A few nearby players slow as the unexpected interception registers.
Jungkook flicks the ball back with the side of his boot and lets it roll toward the captain again. His gaze remains fixed on Taehyung, amusement flickering across his expression.
A faint grin touches his mouth.
Taehyung watches him for a second.
The challenge is obvious. It's not hostile or disrespectful. It's a test.
The corner of Taehyung's mouth lifts almost imperceptibly before he steps forward and takes possession again.
Interesting.
He turns away with the ball and immediately resets the formation.
“Positions,” he calls.
Players spread out across the pitch.
The easy chatter fades as everyone slips back into place.
Taehyung raises a hand slightly, his eyes already moving across the field and calculating the next sequence.
“Tactical play.”
Jimin shifts his weight forward, ready to sprint the instant the signal comes. Hoseok drifts into open space along the wing while Yoongi holds the midfield line, positioning himself to support the transition.
The sequence unfolds exactly as it has during every previous drill.
Jungkook sees the signal.
He also sees the gap forming near the defensive line.
It is small. Narrow enough that most players would follow the planned route without a second thought.
Taehyung sends the pass forward precisely where the play is designed to go.
Jungkook starts toward it, but halfway through his run, he changes direction.
Instead of continuing toward the designated position, he cuts sharply across the field and reaches the ball before anyone expects him to.
Yeonjun's voice rings out in surprise.
“Wait, that’s not the play!”
Jungkook pays no attention.
The ball stays glued to his feet as he drives forward. He slips past one defender, accelerates into the space beyond, and forces the back line to react. Minho lunges in for a tackle, but Jungkook pivots away cleanly and continues his run before the defender can recover.
The goal opens in front of him.
Near the sideline, Namjoon releases a slow breath.
Beside him, Seokjin lowers his sunglasses.
At the far end of the pitch, Han adjusts his stance between the posts, tracking every step of the approach.
Jungkook plants his foot.
The strike follows.
Power explodes through the shot.
Han launches toward the corner, stretching every inch of his reach as the ball tears across the field.
It still isn't enough.
The shot slams into the top corner of the net with a sharp crack that echoes across the training ground.
For a heartbeat, players simply stare.
The reaction arrives all at once.
Hoseok throws both arms into the air.
“Did you see that?”
Jimin breaks into laughter as he runs forward.
“Okay, that was insane.”
Yeonjun clutches his head dramatically.
“I approve of this chaos.”
Even Yoongi gives a small nod of appreciation.
Jungkook jogs back toward the center circle while conversations erupt around him. Praise, disbelief, and arguments about whether the goal should count blend together across the field.
Taehyung remains where the play began.
His gaze follows Jungkook's approach.
The distance between them closes again.
Around them, the excitement continues, but enough of the noise fades that Taehyung's voice carries clearly.
“Next time follow the play.”
Jungkook wipes a hand across the back of his neck. The goal has done nothing to diminish the confidence in his expression.
“Next time make a better one.”
Several nearby players stop pretending they are not listening.
Jimin turns his head so quickly he nearly misses Hoseok walking past him.
A grin spreads across Yeonjun's face.
“Oh, this is going to be fun.”
The comment earns a wave of laughter from the surrounding players.
At the goal, Han leans against the post and raises his voice across the field.
“No, no. This is going to be a long season.”
More laughter follows.
Namjoon watches the exchange from the sideline without intervening. Jungkook ignored the tactical sequence completely, and under most circumstances a decision like that would earn a sharp correction.
This time, he says nothing.
Across the field, Taehyung's attention remains fixed on Jungkook. The goal may have found the back of the net, but it came at the expense of the play the team spent the last hour practicing.
Jungkook holds his gaze without apology.
Around them, teammates continue laughing and arguing about the goal, yet the tension between captain and striker refuses to fade.
The Titans have a new striker, and training has barely begun. If today's drill is any indication, keeping Jungkook in line may prove far more difficult than teaching him the system.
,
The locker room fills gradually after practice.
Boots thud against the tile floor as players make their way inside, sweat-soaked and breathing hard after the training match. The scent of grass, sweat, and damp jerseys follows them in, mingling with the familiar smell of detergent and athletic tape. Locker doors swing open one after another as bags are dropped onto benches and towels are pulled from shelves.
Hoseok collapses onto a bench with a dramatic groan and drapes a towel over his head.
“I am starving,” he says through the fabric. “If dinner does not appear soon, I will start eating my shin guards.”
Jimin laughs while pulling off his training jersey.
“You say that after every practice.”
“That does not make it less true.”
Across the room, Han tosses his gloves into his locker and stretches both arms overhead.
“My defense owes me a public apology,” he announces.
Minho barely glances up while reaching into his bag for a protein bar.
“You conceded one goal.”
Han raises a finger.
“One spectacularly unnecessary goal.”
“Take it up with the striker.”
Minho tears open the wrapper.
Yeonjun drops backward onto the bench beside Soobin, still riding the energy of the match.
“I like him,” he declares. “He brings drama.”
Soobin wipes the back of his neck with a towel and exhales.
“That is exactly the problem.”
Near the far wall, Yoongi sits quietly unwrapping the tape around his ankle. Jimin settles beside him, leaning back against the lockers with an amused look on his face.
“You saw it too, right?” Jimin murmurs.
Yoongi follows his line of sight toward the doorway.
“Yes.”
Jungkook walks in a second later.
His hair is still damp from sweat, pushed back from his forehead after the match. Dark patches stain the sleeves of his jersey where the fabric clings to his arms. He looks entirely unconcerned by the noise around him as he heads toward his locker.
The atmosphere shifts the instant another figure enters behind him.
Taehyung steps through the doorway and crosses the room without hesitation.
One conversation trails off.
Another follows.
Even Hoseok lowers the towel from his face.
Minho takes another bite of his protein bar and settles more comfortably against the lockers, looking entirely too interested in whatever is about to happen.
Jungkook sees Taehyung approaching and remains exactly where he is.
Taehyung stops in front of him.
“I am letting that slide because it was your first training match.”
His voice stays calm.
Controlled.
Jungkook tilts his head slightly.
Taehyung continues.
“But understand something.”
The surrounding conversations have disappeared completely now. Players pretend to organize lockers, drink water, or stretch, but every bit of attention in the room has shifted toward the captain and the striker.
“I am the captain. When I call a play, the team follows it.”
His gaze remains fixed on Jungkook.
“Everyone here understands that.”
He gestures briefly toward the room.
“Even players who have been here longer than me.”
Yoongi glances up from the tape in his hands.
Jimin's eyebrows lift.
Across the room, Hoseok slowly raises both hands in silent agreement.
Jungkook listens without interrupting. When Taehyung finishes, a relaxed smile settles onto his face, carrying just enough amusement to make the expression dangerous.
“Relax, Captain.”
Taehyung's eyes narrow.
“It was practice.”
Jungkook shrugs.
“You are acting like we lost the championship.”
Behind them, Minho chews thoughtfully on his protein bar.
Yeonjun leans closer to Soobin.
“This is excellent.”
Taehyung takes a step forward.
“You ignored the play.”
Jungkook doesn't back away.
“And scored.”
The answer lands exactly as intended.
The tension sharpens.
Jimin shifts slightly closer to Yoongi, openly invested now.
“I bet 100 bucks they'll kiss before the championship.”
Yoongi closes his eyes briefly.
“You’re on.”
A strangled sound escapes Hoseok as he tries not to laugh.
Soobin rises from the bench and moves toward the center of the room.
“Maybe we should calm down a little.”
Yoongi stands as well, tossing the last strip of tape into a nearby bin.
“Save your energy for the actual matches.”
Taehyung pays neither of them any attention.
His focus remains on Jungkook.
Jungkook's smile widens by a fraction.
The standoff continues until the locker room door opens again.
Namjoon walks inside with Seokjin a step behind him.
Both stop almost at once.
The room has become far too quiet.
Namjoon's gaze moves across the players before settling on the two men standing directly in front of each other.
Beside him, Seokjin releases a long-suffering sigh.
Namjoon claps his hands once.
“Good practice today, boys.”
Nobody moves.
Nobody even attempts to look innocent.
Namjoon nods toward the door.
“To keep team morale high and help our new striker settle in, we're having dinner together tonight.”
Several heads turn immediately.
“Team dinner,” Namjoon repeats. “Everyone attends.”
Hoseok sits upright so fast he nearly drops his towel.
“Food?”
Seokjin nods.
“Actual food. Not whatever protein powder you idiots survive on.”
Laughter ripples through the room.
The tension eases enough for people to start moving again.
Minho finishes the last bite of his protein bar and brushes the crumbs from his hands.
“I approve this decision.”
Jimin stretches both arms overhead.
“Best announcement of the day.”
Namjoon's attention drifts back toward Taehyung and Jungkook.
“Shower up,” he says. “We leave in thirty minutes.”
The locker room returns to life.
Players grab towels. Lockers slam shut. Conversations restart as teammates head toward the showers and argue about where they think dinner is going to be.
The crowd gradually disperses around them.
Taehyung turns away first and heads toward his locker.
Jungkook watches him go before reaching for a clean towel.
The confrontation may be over for now, but the friction between captain and striker remains firmly intact, threading through the room long after the rest of the team has moved on to thoughts of food and an evening away from the training ground.
,
The restaurant sits a few streets away from the training ground, warm light spilling across polished wooden tables while overlapping conversation drifts through the room. The scent of grilled meat, spices, and freshly cooked food hangs in the air, drawing more than one appreciative look from the exhausted athletes filing through the doors.
The Titans take over a long table near the back, turning an otherwise peaceful corner of the restaurant into a loud, sprawling collection of players, gym bags, and competing conversations.
Chairs scrape against the floor as everyone settles in.
Jimin claims a seat first and tips his head back with a satisfied sigh.
Hoseok drops into the chair beside him and begins scanning the restaurant with the focus of a man pursuing a personal mission.
Taehyung takes the seat next to Yoongi without much thought and reaches for the glass of water waiting in front of him.
Yoongi watches him over the rim of his own glass.
“You need to relax.”
Taehyung takes a drink.
“I am relaxed.”
“You looked ready to start a duel in the locker room.”
A quiet exhale leaves Taehyung as he sets the glass down.
“He ignored the play.”
Yoongi folds his hands loosely on the table.
“He is new,” he says. “Hot blood. Let him settle.”
Hoseok nods enthusiastically from beside them.
“Yes. Let him settle.”
His tone mirrors Yoongi's so perfectly that Jimin almost laughs.
The agreement lasts all of two seconds before it becomes painfully obvious that Hoseok has not been listening to a single word of the conversation.
His attention is fixed on a waiter carrying a large tray across the restaurant.
“Do you think that is ours?” he whispers.
Jimin follows his gaze.
“That is a table of six.”
Hoseok frowns.
“That could still be ours if they are generous.”
Across the table, Han flips through the menu despite the fact that everyone placed their orders nearly ten minutes ago.
“I want it officially recorded,” he announces, “that I deserve the largest portion here.”
Minho glances up from his phone.
“You conceded the only goal today.”
Han points at him accusingly.
“That was a defensive failure.”
Minho does not bother responding.
The first appetizer arrives, and he reaches across the table with complete confidence before stealing a dumpling from Han's plate.
Han watches the disappearance of his food in stunned silence.
“Did you just take my food?”
Minho chews thoughtfully.
“You were not eating it.”
Han reaches forward and snatches a piece from Minho's plate without hesitation.
“This is war.”
Soobin watches the exchange with the patience of someone who has spent years dealing with teammates behaving exactly like this.
Beside him, Yeonjun leans forward onto his elbows as though he has secured front-row seats to a major sporting event.
“FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!”
“Don't encourage them, you idiot,” Soobin says with a groan.
“I'm supporting team bonding.”
“You are supporting theft.”
“Same thing.”
Han points dramatically at Yeonjun.
“Finally, someone understands me.”
“Justice for stolen dumplings,” Yeonjun agrees solemnly.
Across the table, Jimin has started laughing so hard he nearly spills his water.
The noise level rises steadily as more dishes arrive. Plates are passed around. Someone reaches across three people to steal a side dish. Minho threatens bodily harm when Hoseok tries to take food from his plate. Chan calmly rescues a basket of bread before it becomes collateral damage.
For the first time all evening, the tension from training begins to dissolve beneath the familiar chaos of teammates sharing a meal. Even Taehyung finds himself paying less attention to the events of the afternoon as conversations split into smaller groups around the table.
Yoongi remains beside him, quietly working through his meal.
“See?” he says after a while. “Nobody died.”
Taehyung tears a piece of bread apart.
“The night is still young.”
That earns a snort from Yoongi.
Across the restaurant, laughter erupts again when Han accuses Minho of committing another food-related crime.
The argument grows louder.
Yeonjun appoints himself judge.
Soobin refuses to participate.
At the far end of the table, Namjoon sits beside Seokjin in the arrangement that has become routine during team outings.
Seokjin pours water into Namjoon's glass before filling his own. The gesture is casual and familiar, but several players catch it anyway.
Hyunjin lifts his glass halfway to his mouth and pauses.
Jimin nudges Jungkook lightly under the table.
Since arriving at the restaurant, Jungkook has spent much of the evening quietly observing the group, still learning the rhythms and relationships that hold the team together. He follows Jimin's line of sight toward the end of the table.
“Watch,” Jimin whispers.
Chan leans in from the opposite side.
“They think they're subtle.”
Jungkook raises an eyebrow.
“Who?”
Chan tips his head toward Namjoon and Seokjin.
“Manager Seokjin and Coach.”
Jungkook looks again.
Seokjin says something quietly to Namjoon, leaning slightly closer as he speaks. Namjoon listens with his usual calm attention.
Jungkook shrugs.
“They look normal.”
Jimin's grin grows wider.
“Give it a second.”
As if summoned by the comment, Seokjin reaches across the table and picks up a napkin.
“There is sauce on your cheek,” he says.
Namjoon blinks.
Before he can respond, Seokjin reaches over and gently wipes the corner of his face.
Namjoon goes completely still.
Across the table, Hyunjin nearly chokes on his drink and has to lower his head to hide the reaction.
Jimin presses his lips together.
Chan stares at the scene with the satisfaction of someone watching a long-running prediction come true.
Namjoon slowly turns his head.
Hyunjin suddenly develops a deep interest in the contents of his plate.
Jungkook shakes his head, amusement flickering across his face.
“They really think nobody sees it,” Chan murmurs.
The arrival of the main course saves everyone from further embarrassment.
Servers begin setting plates across the table, filling every open space with food.
Hoseok brightens instantly.
“Finally.”
He starts loading his plate before half the dishes have even finished arriving.
Han keeps one protective hand beside his meal while eating with the other.
Minho watches him.
“You look defensive.”
“You lost your privileges.”
Yeonjun laughs and reaches for another piece of grilled meat.
Soobin quietly passes side dishes down the table, making sure everyone receives a fair share before the food disappears entirely.
The conversation flows easily as stories from previous matches blend into jokes about training, embarrassing mistakes, and locker room traditions.
Taehyung sits back in his chair, listening more than speaking. His attention drifts around the table before settling on Jungkook.
The striker occupies a seat near the center of the group, relaxed as Chan explains a ridiculous team tradition involving karaoke, forfeits, and public humiliation.
Jungkook glances up.
Their eyes meet.
The conversation around them continues uninterrupted, but the connection holds for a second longer than either probably intends.
Jungkook lifts his glass slightly.
“Cheers, Captain,” he mouths.
That familiar smirk appears again, carrying the same challenge it always seems to carry whenever Taehyung is involved.
Taehyung watches him across the table before leaning slightly toward Yoongi.
“Oh, he is going to be trouble.”
Yoongi hears it.
Jimin hears it too.
Both follow Taehyung's gaze toward Jungkook, who remains entirely unbothered by the attention.
Jimin grins into his drink.
Yoongi takes a slow sip of water.
Neither of them bothers commenting.
The evidence is sitting directly across the table.
While the rest of the team remains occupied with food, conversation, and ongoing debates about football, the captain and the striker continue measuring each other from opposite ends of the group.
The rivalry that began on the training field has already followed them to dinner, and if tonight is any indication, it is not disappearing anytime soon.
Across the table, Jimin catches Yoongi's eye.
The look they exchange says more than words ever could.
This season is going to be very interesting.
Captain vs Prodigy
Two weeks remain before the championship begins.
For the Seoul Titans, that means longer practices, sharper drills, and the steady pressure that creeps into every part of the day. The training ground becomes a second home. Boots carve paths across the grass from morning until evening while the coaching staff pushes the team harder with each passing session.
The days settle into a familiar rhythm of sweat, competition, laughter, and arguments.
Taehyung controls the midfield with the same quiet authority he brings to every practice. The captain's armband stays secured around his sleeve as he reads the movement unfolding around him and adjusts the formation accordingly.
“Reset the line.”
Soobin drops back into position.
“Jimin, wait for the lane.”
Jimin slows his run and nods.
“Hoseok, stretch the right side.”
Hoseok lifts both hands while drifting wider.
“Already there.”
The ball moves through the formation exactly as intended. Passes connect. Players rotate. Space opens where it should.
And then Jungkook gets involved.
The striker cuts across the field with dangerous speed, appearing in areas the play was never designed to reach. One moment the ball is moving toward Yeonjun. The next, Jungkook has intercepted it himself and is already driving toward goal.
Han straightens between the posts.
“Do not even think about it.”
Jungkook hears him.
Jungkook ignores him.
He strikes.
The ball rockets into the top corner.
Han turns to stare at the net behind him before looking back across the field.
“Incredible,” he says flatly. “Truly a collaborative defensive effort.”
Minho jogs past him, fighting a grin.
“You had one job.”
Han gestures dramatically toward midfield.
“I am surrounded by amateurs.”
Laughter spreads across the pitch.
Taehyung doesn't join in.
He watches the play finish before walking forward, calm but clearly unimpressed.
“That was not the sequence.”
Jungkook jogs backward, challenge already written across his face.
“It worked, though.”
Taehyung folds his arms.
“That was luck.”
Jungkook tilts his head.
“You want me to try again?”
Several nearby players slow down.
Jimin openly stops pretending to focus on the drill.
Yeonjun drifts closer under the excuse of recovering his position.
Even Hoseok looks interested.
Near the sideline, Namjoon presses two fingers against his temple.
Beside him, Seokjin holds a pen above his notebook.
“I could start issuing disciplinary fines,” Seokjin says thoughtfully.
Namjoon keeps his eyes on the field.
“Let us see how long it takes before the captain murders the new striker.”
Seokjin follows his gaze toward the two players standing in the middle of the formation.
“If that happens,” he says, “the paperwork will be exhausting.”
Namjoon considers this for a second.
“You would make me fill out the reports.”
“Obviously.”
“I hate that you're right.”
Meanwhile, the source of their problems remains completely unaware, or perhaps completely unconcerned.
Taehyung takes the ball from midfield and restarts the drill.
Jungkook falls back into position.
For approximately thirty seconds, everything proceeds exactly as planned.
Then Jungkook ignores another passing lane, creates a different one, and scores again.
Namjoon closes his eyes.
Seokjin quietly reaches for a second page in his notebook.
,
As the first week draws to a close, Jungkook starts finding his place within the team.
He picks up their habits and rhythms faster than anyone expected. He learns to read Yoongi's quiet signals in midfield before the ball even leaves his foot. He learns the timing of Jimin's explosive runs down the wing and the way Hoseok can turn a small opening into a sprint that leaves defenders chasing shadows.
One afternoon, Yoongi sends a long pass forward from midfield.
Jungkook brings it under control effortlessly. A defender closes in, expecting him to drive toward goal, but he slips the ball sideways instead.
Jimin reaches it in stride and buries the shot.
“Okay,” Jimin says with a laugh as he jogs back toward midfield. “That was nice.”
Jungkook shrugs.
“I can share.”
During the water break, Hoseok throws an arm around his shoulders and nearly spills half his bottle in the process.
“You are officially invited to team karaoke night.”
Jungkook gives him a wary look.
“That sounds dangerous.”
“It is,” Yeonjun says.
Across from them, Soobin walks over and hands Jungkook a bottle of water.
“You are adapting well.”
Minho watches the exchange from a few steps away.
“Do not get comfortable,” he says. “I still plan to tackle you.”
From the goal, Han lifts his gloves into the air.
“Please tackle him before he shoots.”
Laughter rolls across the field.
Jungkook finds himself laughing along with them.
The team is beginning to feel familiar. Training sessions move more smoothly. Passes connect more naturally. The easy camaraderie that exists between the players no longer feels like a wall he is standing outside of.
The mood holds until Taehyung walks over.
The change is difficult to miss.
Conversations continue. Players keep talking, drinking water, and preparing for the next drill, yet the easy atmosphere surrounding Jungkook tightens the moment the captain enters the space around him.
Their rivalry has settled into the team as thoroughly as Jungkook has.
Every practice turns into a challenge.
Every drill becomes a test.
And every time their paths cross, the competitive edge between them sharpens all over again.
,
Another training match begins beneath a cloudless afternoon sky.
The players gather around Namjoon while he outlines the next formation on the tactics board. Sweat still clings to jerseys from the previous drill, and several players drink water while listening.
“This play depends on timing,” Namjoon says.
He draws a line across the board and taps the route with his marker.
“Taehyung controls the tempo. Jungkook breaks the line only when the signal comes.”
The team nods in understanding.
Jungkook nods as well.
Namjoon studies him for a second longer than everyone else before stepping back.
The whistle sounds.
Players move into position.
The opening sequence unfolds exactly as designed. The ball travels cleanly through midfield. Defenders shift where they're supposed to shift. Passing lanes open and close in a practiced rhythm.
For roughly thirty seconds, everything works perfectly.
Then Jungkook spots a gap.
The opening is small.
Most players would wait.
Jungkook doesn't.
He accelerates into the space, takes the pass before the sequence reaches its intended point, and sends the ball into the net before the defense fully reacts.
Han lets his head fall against the goalpost.
“I am begging you to stop doing that.”
Several teammates laugh.
Taehyung doesn't.
He starts walking toward Jungkook with the measured pace that usually means his patience is running thin.
“Do you not understand the rules?” he asks. “You broke formation again.”
Jungkook wipes sweat from the side of his neck.
“I improved it.”
Taehyung's jaw tightens.
Across the field, Namjoon's voice cuts through the brewing argument.
“Both of you stop arguing and reset.”
Seokjin raises his voice from the sideline.
“And remember that fines increase after repeated offenses.”
“See?” Han calls. “Even management is tired of you.”
Jungkook points toward the goal.
“The ball disagrees.”
Han looks genuinely offended.
Near midfield, Yeonjun leans toward Jimin while watching the exchange.
“Five bucks says Jungkook throws the ball at him today.”
Jimin folds his arms and considers it.
“I'll raise you ten that Taehyung benches him first.”
Yoongi stands beside them, watching the familiar scene unfold with remarkable calm.
“You are both wrong.”
Yeonjun turns.
“What happens then?”
Yoongi's gaze follows the two players standing across from each other on the grass.
The answer arrives without hesitation.
“They score together.”
Jimin stares at him.
Yeonjun stares at him.
A second passes.
Then Yeonjun points dramatically.
“Look at that. The old man is becoming optimistic.”
“I am not old.”
“You made a prediction about teamwork. That's basically retirement.”
Yoongi looks away before either of them can continue.
Back on the field, Taehyung takes his position again while Jungkook settles into the attacking line.
The argument ends because training demands it, not because either of them has changed their mind.
Namjoon blows the whistle once more.
The drill restarts.
This time, every player on the field watches the captain and the striker a little more closely than before.
,
The next week passes in a blur of training sessions, strategy meetings, recovery workouts, and team dinners. Days begin early, end late, and somehow still seem too short. As the championship draws closer, every conversation circles back to football sooner or later, whether they're on the training ground, in the locker room, or gathered around a table for lunch.
One afternoon, Han sits protectively over his tray as though defending a championship title of his own. Across from him, Minho studies the contents with open interest and absolutely no shame.
“Don't even think about it,” Han warns.
“I haven't done anything.”
“You are thinking about it.”
“I am appreciating it.”
“You are scouting weaknesses.”
Before the discussion can escalate, Soobin quietly appears and slides an extra plate onto the table between them.
“Peace offering.”
Han looks relieved.
Minho looks delighted.
Around them, several teammates begin paying attention.
Yeonjun wastes no time turning the entire situation into a sporting event.
“Minho advances from the left flank,” he announces. “Han defends the plate with impressive reflexes.”
“Thank you,” Han says.
“That was not a compliment.”
Hyunjin laughs so hard he nearly spills his drink.
The table erupts into overlapping commentary, arguments, and increasingly dramatic analysis of Han's lunch. Somewhere in the middle of it, Namjoon is still attempting to discuss football.
At the far end of the table, he has a tactical diagram spread open beside his tray while Seokjin listens with the patience of someone who has heard variations of this conversation many times before.
“If we shift the midfield pressure higher, we create better passing angles through the center,” Namjoon explains.
Seokjin glances at the diagram.
“You worry too much.”
Namjoon lifts his head.
“I coach professional athletes.”
A faint smile touches Seokjin's mouth.
“Yes, I know.”
The exchange is brief.
It is also enough.
Several players catch it at once.
Chan lowers his voice and leans toward Jungkook.
“Just wait.”
Jungkook looks away from the ongoing debate about Han's lunch.
“For what?”
“The moment they remember we're all sitting here.”
Jungkook follows Chan's gaze toward the far end of the table.
Namjoon is halfway through another explanation when Seokjin says something too quiet for anyone else to hear.
Whatever it is, Namjoon stops talking.
The tactical discussion vanishes completely.
He simply looks at Seokjin.
Around them, the noise of the team continues uninterrupted, but Chan is already grinning.
Jungkook watches for another second before letting out a quiet breath.
“…There it is.”
“See?” Chan says.
“I see.”
“Every time.”
At the end of the table, Namjoon finally seems to remember he has an audience and clears his throat before returning to the diagram.
The recovery is admirable.
The recovery is also far too late.
Half the team has already witnessed it.
Seokjin takes a sip of water with the calm confidence of someone entirely unbothered by the attention, while several players exchange knowing looks across the table and continue eating as though nothing happened.
Nobody says anything aloud.
That would require far more self-control than this team possesses.
,
Back on the field, the rivalry continues to sharpen.
Taehyung drives the play through midfield with the same composure he brings to every match, reading the movement around him several steps ahead. Players shift in response to his calls, the formation bending and expanding exactly where he wants it to.
“Jimin, run.”
Jimin bursts forward.
“Now.”
Taehyung threads the ball between two defenders with perfect timing.
Jungkook arrives where he is supposed to arrive.
For once, he follows the sequence exactly as designed.
The finish comes a heartbeat later.
The ball hits the net before the defense can react.
A handful of early supporters scattered through the small stands behind the training ground break into applause.
Hoseok pumps his fist into the air.
“That was perfect.”
Taehyung releases a slow breath. The play unfolded exactly as intended, every movement connecting to the next until the ball crossed the line.
Across the field, his gaze finds Jungkook's.
For a second, there is a flicker of mutual recognition. Then Jungkook smiles, that familiar challenge returning to his expression, and the tension snaps right back into place.
The final days of the two-week stretch push the team harder than ever.
Passes travel across the grass with crisp precision. Defensive rotations become second nature. Movements that once required constant instruction now happen instinctively, players responding to one another without hesitation. Every session reveals a little more progress, another layer of polish settling over the squad.
The Titans are beginning to look like a team capable of winning the championship.
At the same time, the rivalry between their captain and their striker continues burning hotter with every practice.
One afternoon scrimmage unfolds at a relentless pace.
The ball rolls through midfield toward Jungkook, who moves to collect it while already accelerating into open space. Taehyung closes from the side, reads the angle perfectly, and times his challenge with precision. A quick touch strips possession away before Jungkook can fully break forward.
Without breaking stride, Taehyung launches a long pass toward the right flank where Hoseok is already sprinting into position.
The play should continue smoothly from there.
Instead, both of them react to the same movement at the same time.
Jungkook turns to chase.
Taehyung pivots to follow the developing attack.
Their paths intersect.
The collision isn't particularly hard, but momentum does the rest.
Jungkook stumbles forward.
Taehyung loses his footing.
A second later, both of them hit the grass.
The ball continues rolling unattended across the field.
Jungkook lands partially over Taehyung, one hand planted beside his shoulder to keep his full weight from crashing down on him. Their boots tangle awkwardly beneath them, the impact stealing air from both sets of lungs.
Taehyung looks up, irritation already gathering. A sharp comment waits on the edge of his tongue.
The words never arrive.
His gaze catches on Jungkook's.
Everything else seems to recede.
Jungkook is closer than Taehyung has ever seen him. Close enough to pick out individual strands of hair fallen across his forehead. Close enough to see the sheen of sweat along his skin and the rapid rise and fall of his chest after the sprint.
Jungkook doesn't look away either.
The stare holds.
Around them, practice begins slowing as players realize neither man has gotten up yet.
Jimin lowers his hands.
Hoseok slows to a stop.
Minho glances toward the goal.
“Are they about to fight?” he asks quietly.
Han leans forward from his position near the goal line, studying the scene with growing suspicion.
“I cannot tell if they want to tackle each other or kiss.”
Soobin exhales through his nose.
Yeonjun watches with undisguised fascination.
Yoongi drags a hand across his face.
“Both are possible.”
On the grass, Taehyung and Jungkook remain exactly where they are.
The moment lingers far longer than it has any right to.
Awareness arrives gradually and then all at once.
Taehyung becomes acutely conscious of how close Jungkook is.
Jungkook becomes equally aware of the position they've ended up in.
Heat begins creeping across both their faces.
The shrill blast of a whistle cuts through the field before either of them can react further.
Reality crashes back into place.
Jungkook pushes himself upright first and steps away, running a hand through his hair as he tries to regain some semblance of composure. His gaze drops briefly toward the grass before lifting again.
Taehyung stays seated for another second, his pulse refusing to settle. He brushes grass from the back of his training jersey with deliberate care before rising to his feet.
The effort at composure would be far more convincing if his face weren't still flushed.
Jungkook isn't faring much better.
Around them, the team makes a collective attempt to behave normally.
The attempt fails spectacularly.
Hoseok coughs into his fist.
Jimin bites the inside of his cheek.
Han turns toward the goal, shoulders shaking suspiciously.
Yeonjun looks seconds away from bursting into laughter.
Yoongi simply shakes his head and starts walking back into position.
Practice resumes because it has to.
The drills continue. The ball moves. Players run.
Yet the strange charge that settled over the field refuses to disappear entirely.
Every member of the team feels it.
The Titans are growing stronger with each passing day, becoming faster, sharper, and more dangerous together.
Somewhere inside that growing strength sits the volatile spark between their captain and their striker, a force that refuses to fit neatly into rivalry or cooperation and seems determined to become far more complicated than either of them would like.
,
The final days before the championship arrive faster than anyone would like.
The Titans move through their routines with a sharper focus now. Morning conditioning sessions blend into tactical drills, which blend into practice matches that leave every player drenched in sweat and running on stubborn determination alone. The closer the tournament draws, the more the atmosphere changes. Conversations become more purposeful. Mistakes draw quicker corrections. Every player carries the quiet awareness that the season is approaching its most important stretch.
The rivalry between Taehyung and Jungkook shows no signs of fading.
If anything, it becomes impossible to ignore.
One afternoon scrimmage unfolds at a relentless pace. Players shift across the field as possession changes hands, and Taehyung is already reading the next phase of play before the ball reaches midfield.
“Shift right,” he calls. “Jimin, hold the line.”
Jimin raises a hand in acknowledgment as he adjusts his position.
The ball reaches Yoongi, who takes one look at the formation before redirecting the pass with his usual economy of movement.
“Move,” he says.
Jungkook does.
This time, he follows the sequence exactly as Taehyung designed it.
The timing falls into place with remarkable precision. Every player arrives where they're supposed to arrive. Passing lanes open at the right moment. Defenders shift a fraction too late.
Taehyung sends the ball forward.
Jungkook bursts through the defensive line.
The finish is clean.
The ball crashes into the back of the net.
Han lowers his head and stares at the grass for a second before looking up again.
“You know,” he calls from the goal, “if you two cooperate like that during the tournament, we might actually survive this season.”
Laughter ripples across the field.
Hoseok jogs over and claps Jungkook on the shoulder.
“That looked amazing.”
Minho watches the replay forming in his head and shakes it away.
“I do not like how effective that was.”
Yeonjun narrows his eyes suspiciously.
“This partnership is suspicious.”
Soobin glances between Taehyung and Jungkook.
“They work well together.”
Nobody argues with him.
The evidence is sitting in the net.
Across the field, Taehyung and Jungkook slow after the play. The familiar tension still exists, lingering beneath every interaction and every challenge, but results are difficult to dismiss. When they stop fighting the same play and start building on each other's strengths, the entire team becomes more dangerous.
Their gazes meet briefly.
The rivalry remains.
So does the understanding that has begun forming beneath it.
Near the sideline, Namjoon watches everything with his arms folded across his chest. Beside him, Seokjin stands with one hand tucked into his pocket while his phone rests loosely in the other.
“They're starting to synchronize,” Seokjin says.
Namjoon nods without taking his eyes off the field.
“If they keep this up, we can beat anyone in the league.”
Seokjin taps his screen and locks the phone.
“Let us hope they do not destroy the locker room first.”
A laugh escapes Namjoon despite himself.
“That is a legitimate concern.”
Out on the field, the whistle sounds and players begin resetting for the next sequence.
Jungkook drifts back into position.
Taehyung reorganizes the formation.
The team moves around them with growing confidence, every practice sharpening the connections that will matter when the championship finally begins.
The Titans are not a finished team yet.
But with every passing day, they are becoming harder to stop. And at the center of that progress stand a captain and a striker whose rivalry continues to fuel them both, pushing each one to be better than they were the day before.
Later that evening, the team gathers in the meeting room beside the training facility for their final strategy session before the last practice match.
A large conference table dominates the center of the room. Chairs scrape softly against the floor as players settle into their usual seats, conversations gradually fading as notebooks, water bottles, and tablets find their places. The air carries the faint scent of coffee and dry-erase markers, a familiar combination that has become synonymous with tactical meetings.
At the front of the room, Namjoon stands beside a wide tactics board.
The moment he picks up the marker, the room grows quieter.
“This is the formation we'll use tomorrow,” he says.
Several lines appear across the board as he sketches the structure of the team.
“Defense holds the back line here. Midfield controls the tempo through the center.”
Around the table, players lean forward to study the diagram. Yoongi shifts slightly closer to the board, following the developing pattern with careful attention. Jimin absently taps a pen against his notebook while tracing the routes with his eyes. Hoseok, surprisingly invested for once, props his chin in his hand and listens without interruption.
Across the table, Jungkook sits with his arms folded, his attention fixed on the board.
Taehyung sits a few seats away beside Yoongi, posture straight as he studies every adjustment Namjoon makes.
“The key movement starts here,” Namjoon continues.
He circles a position on the board.
“This is where the striker breaks the line.”
Seokjin rises from his chair and walks closer to examine the diagram.
“Shouldn't the winger rotate earlier here?” he asks.
As he speaks, he leans across the table to get a better look at the markings.
The movement brings him considerably closer to Namjoon than he probably realizes.
Namjoon turns his head to answer.
The response never arrives.
For a second, he simply stands there looking at Seokjin.
Across the table, Jimin catches the moment instantly.
He nudges Yoongi with his elbow.
“Is the coach buffering?”
Yoongi watches Namjoon stare at the board as though tactical football has suddenly become an unsolvable mystery.
“…System error.”
Jimin presses his lips together.
A suspicious sound escapes Yeonjun that could generously be described as a cough.
Hyunjin lowers his head and studies his notebook with tremendous dedication.
Chan develops an equally intense interest in the tabletop.
At the front of the room, Namjoon finally remembers he is supposed to be leading a meeting.
He clears his throat.
Seokjin straightens and returns his attention to the board, entirely unaffected by the disruption he has caused.
“Continue,” he says.
Namjoon nods once.
“Yes.”
He taps the diagram again.
“The striker breaks the line here.”
The explanation resumes, but several players are no longer paying full attention to the tactics.
Their attention drifts elsewhere.
Across the table, Jungkook glances toward Taehyung.
The captain catches the look.
Their eyes meet briefly before returning to the board.
Every challenge, every argument, and every competitive exchange over the past two weeks has ensured that the rivalry sustains. Yet the friction between them no longer feels quite as simple as it did when Jungkook first arrived.
The meeting continues as Namjoon walks the team through the final details of tomorrow's match, players asking questions and discussing adjustments while the tactics board gradually fills with notes and arrows.
Outside, evening settles over the training grounds.
Inside, the Titans focus on the challenge waiting for them tomorrow.
The final practice match will reveal how much they have grown as a team, how well their preparations have come together, and whether the chemistry developing across the field can hold when the pressure rises.
,
Night settles quietly over the Titans' training complex.
The long day finally begins winding down. After showers, recovery sessions, and late dinners, players gradually drift toward the dorm rooms spread across the upper floor of the facility. The hallways carry the familiar scent of detergent, muscle balm, and the lingering warmth left behind by a full day of training.
Some disappear as soon as they reach the residential wing.
Minho heads straight for his room with the determination of someone fully committed to sleeping for the next ten hours. Han calls out a loud goodnight from the far end of the corridor before disappearing behind his door. Chan follows a few moments later, stifling a yawn as he heads in the same direction. Yeonjun and Hyunjin wander off together, still arguing about music, while Soobin trails after them with the patience of a man attempting to keep two children from waking the entire building.
The common lounge remains softly lit long after the hallway empties.
A wide couch stretches along one wall. The television murmurs quietly in the background, cycling through sports highlights while a collection of magazines sit scattered across the coffee table.
Jungkook ends up there without any particular plan.
Jimin claims the couch first, stretching comfortably across the cushions as though he owns the entire room.
Yoongi settles into the armchair beside the window with a bottle of water in one hand and his phone in the other.
Hoseok occupies the floor rug, leaning back against the couch while absentmindedly tossing a tennis ball into the air.
“You survived your first two weeks,” Hoseok says.
Jungkook sinks into the corner of the couch and rests an arm along the backrest.
“I thought training camps would be worse.”
Yoongi looks up from his phone.
“They will be.”
Jimin laughs.
“He's not wrong.”
Jungkook shakes his head.
“You people are very encouraging.”
“We try our best,” Jimin says.
“You do not.”
“No, we really don't.”
The conversation drifts easily from there, moving between stories about past seasons, complaints about training drills, and increasingly ridiculous tales that may or may not be true.
“The karaoke incident never happened,” Yoongi says without looking up.
“It absolutely happened,” Hoseok replies.
“There's no evidence.”
“The evidence was deleted for the good of humanity.”
Hoseok throws the tennis ball again.
This time it slips through his fingers on the way down.
The ball bounces once, rolls across the floor, and continues toward the balcony doors.
Jungkook's gaze follows it.
Beyond the glass, someone stands alone on the balcony.
Taehyung.
Outdoor lights cast a soft glow across the narrow space, outlining his figure against the darkness beyond the railing. A phone rests against his ear while he paces slowly back and forth.
His voice doesn't carry clearly through the glass, but the tense, controlled tone does.
Jungkook watches for a moment longer than he intends to.
The captain always carries a certain intensity on the field. This feels different. His shoulders remain tight throughout the conversation, and every turn across the balcony seems measured, as though the discussion demands more attention than he'd like to give it.
Across the room, Jimin follows the direction of Jungkook's gaze.
His eyes move to the balcony, then back to Jungkook and a knowing smile begins forming.
Jungkook catches it before a single word leaves Jimin's mouth and reaches for the water bottle on the coffee table, taking a drink while turning his attention back toward the television.
Jimin's smile grows wider anyway.
“Don't start,” Jungkook says.
“I haven't said anything.”
“You were about to.”
“I was thinking.”
“That is somehow worse.”
Jimin laughs, clearly delighted with himself, while Yoongi lowers his phone just enough to glance between them.
“What's the deal with him?” Jungkook asks after taking another sip of water.
Jimin looks over from his corner of the couch.
“Who?”
“Taehyung.” Jungkook nods toward the balcony doors. “Why is he always so serious and uptight?”
A quiet laugh escapes Jimin.
“He isn't always like that.”
Yoongi sets it aside.
“The team hasn't won a championship in years,” he says. “That kind of pressure stays with the captain whether he wants it to or not.”
Jungkook listens without interrupting.
Yoongi leans back in his chair.
“He wants to change that.”
Hoseok bounces the tennis ball against the floor and catches it on the rebound.
“It doesn't help when the new star striker keeps ignoring him.”
His grin widens.
Jungkook scoffs.
“I score.”
“You also destroy the formation.”
“I improve the formation.”
“You keep telling yourself that.”
The argument earns a laugh from Jimin.
Outside, the conversation on the balcony shifts.
Taehyung's voice carries faintly through the glass, sharper now than it had been earlier. The steady pacing continues, but the tension in his movements becomes harder to miss.
Jimin glances toward the doors before settling back against the couch.
“There might be another reason too.”
Jungkook looks over.
“What do you mean?”
Jimin exchanges a brief look with Yoongi.
“I think he's going through a breakup.”
Hoseok lowers the tennis ball.
“Or went through one.”
Yoongi gives a small nod.
“He's been like this for a while.”
“He doesn't talk about it,” Jimin says. “None of us know the details. We can only guess.”
Jungkook's attention drifts back toward the balcony.
Outside, Taehyung drags a hand through his hair while listening to whoever is on the other end of the call. The gesture is brief, but the strain underneath it remains visible. Whatever the conversation is about, it clearly isn't pleasant.
Jungkook keeps watching.
A strange mix of reactions settles somewhere beneath his ribs.
The mention of a breakup explains certain things. At the same time, it raises questions he hadn't expected to have.
Before he can untangle any of them, Taehyung turns. His gaze cuts through the glass and lands directly on Jungkook.
For a second, they're looking straight at each other.
Jungkook looks away first and reaches for one of the magazines from the coffee table, flipping it open without actually reading a word as though that had been his intention all along.
A moment later, the balcony door slides open.
Cool night air drifts briefly into the lounge as Taehyung steps inside.
The tension from the phone call is no longer visible. Whatever frustration had followed him onto the balcony has been tucked away behind the composed expression the team sees every day.
His gaze moves across the room.
“Get some rest.”
The room quiets slightly.
“We have practice in the morning.”
A chorus of acknowledgments follows.
Taehyung gives a short nod.
“Good night.”
As he turns toward the hallway, his attention catches on Jungkook for the briefest moment before moving on.
Then he's gone, disappearing down the corridor toward the dorm rooms.
The conversation in the lounge resumes, but Jungkook finds himself glancing once toward the empty hallway.
Tomorrow will bring another training session, another argument, another challenge waiting somewhere on the field.
For now, the image that lingers isn't Taehyung barking orders across midfield or criticizing a broken formation.
It's the solitary figure pacing beneath the balcony lights, carrying a weight he never seems willing to share with anyone else.
,
Morning arrives crisp and bright over the Titans training ground.
The championship begins tomorrow.
The knowledge hangs quietly over the field as players gather for their final practice match. Nobody needs to mention it. The focus is already there, settled into every movement and every glance toward the pitch. Boots crunch against the grass as the team forms up along the sideline.
Namjoon stands with his hands on his hips, surveying the field like a man conducting one last inspection before a major test.
“Warm-ups first,” he calls. “Nobody pulls a muscle the day before the tournament.”
The players spread out across the field.
Jogging laps come first. The steady rhythm of breathing and footfalls fills the cool morning air. Once they're finished, the team breaks into stretching drills across the grass.
Soobin sits with one leg extended while Yeonjun presses gently against his shoulder to deepen the stretch.
“Careful,” Soobin says. “I still need that arm tomorrow.”
Yeonjun grins.
“I am improving your flexibility.”
Nearby, Han kneels on the grass while Minho presses down on his back.
“You are enjoying this way too much,” Han mutters.
“You complain way too much,” Minho replies.
A few meters away, Jimin and Hoseok stretch side by side, laughing quietly about something only they seem to find amusing, while Yoongi rotates his shoulders nearby, already focused on the session ahead.
Namjoon moves slowly along the line of players, watching each exercise with a coach's practiced eye.
“Hold that position,” he tells Chan.
A few steps later, he points toward Hoseok.
“Do not rush the stretch.”
The team listens.
The atmosphere carries the calm discipline of athletes preparing for something important.
Off to one side, Taehyung stands alone, stretching his arms behind his back while loosening his shoulders. His attention seems fixed somewhere beyond the training ground, already drifting toward tomorrow's match.
Jungkook catches sight of him and wanders over, rolling one shoulder as he approaches.
“Back tight?”
Taehyung glances at him.
A brief pause passes before he nods.
Jungkook steps behind him.
“Lean forward a little.”
Taehyung does.
Jungkook positions his hands around Taehyung's upper torso, locking his grip just beneath the ribs.
“Relax.”
Then he pulls.
A soft crack echoes through Taehyung's back.
Taehyung releases a slow breath.
“Better?” Jungkook asks.
“Yes.”
The answer comes quietly, but neither of them moves right away.
Jungkook's hands remain where they are for a beat longer than necessary. The warmth of his grip lingers through the thin training shirt, and Taehyung feels an unexpected shiver travel up the back of his neck.
Goosebumps rise along his skin.
Jungkook catches the reaction.
His gaze drops briefly to the nape of Taehyung's neck, where the evidence is impossible to miss.
Interesting.
A second later, he releases his hold.
Taehyung straightens and turns.
“Are you planning to follow strategy today,” Taehyung asks, “or run wild again?”
Jungkook laughs.
“I like to keep people guessing.”
He shrugs.
“Where is the fun in following orders?”
Taehyung shakes his head.
“You are impossible.”
Jungkook starts back toward the field before glancing over his shoulder.
A playful glint flashes through his eyes.
“I might listen to you.”
Taehyung raises an eyebrow.
Jungkook smiles.
“If you are not so uptight.”
He resumes walking.
“Softness gets you additional points.”
Taehyung watches him head back toward the others, the corner of his mouth threatening the faintest hint of a reaction before he turns his attention toward the field once more.
Across the field, Jimin lowers himself out of a stretch while keeping one eye on Taehyung and Jungkook.
“Well, that looked intimate.”
Beside him, Yoongi stretches his arms overhead before letting them fall back to his sides.
“Back adjustment?”
Jimin lets out a disbelieving laugh.
“That was not just a back adjustment.”
A few meters away, Hyunjin balances through a hamstring stretch with one foot propped against a training cone. He glances toward the pair near the sideline and tilts his head thoughtfully.
“From an artistic perspective, the tension is very compelling.”
Minho straightens from his own stretch and points at him.
“Stop narrating their romance.”
Han, still working his hands inside his goalkeeper gloves, shakes his head.
“If they start hugging before kickoff, I am leaving.”
A quiet chuckle escapes Soobin as he helps Yeonjun loosen his shoulder.
“Focus.”
Yeonjun looks entirely unconvinced by that suggestion.
“I am focused.”
“No.”
“I am studying team chemistry.”
“You are studying gossip.”
Hoseok delivers the correction while jogging past them, shaking out his arms as he moves.
Chan finishes his warm-up nearby and claps his hands together.
“Let the captain handle it.”
Jimin follows Taehyung with his gaze for another moment before settling back more comfortably.
“I give it two days before something explodes.”
That finally earns a look from Yoongi.
“That optimistic?”
“Very.”
Hyunjin lowers his leg from the stretch and brushes his hands against his training shorts.
“I think it will be dramatic.”
Han rises to his feet and gestures toward midfield, where Taehyung and Jungkook are already making their way back toward the rest of the team.
“Whatever it is,” he says, “can it wait until after the championship?”
The question sparks a fresh round of amusement, but the conversation doesn't get much further.
Namjoon's whistle cuts across the field.
He claps once, sharp and decisive.
“Enough stretching.”
Players begin pushing themselves upright.
“Take your positions.”
The easy conversation dissolves as attention shifts back to training.
The Titans spread across the pitch, boots pressing into the grass as the final practice match begins.
The energy feels different today. The usual chaos that creeps into training sessions has been replaced by sharper focus. Players move with purpose, carrying the confidence built through weeks of preparation.
Taehyung settles into midfield and studies the formation as the ball rolls into play.
“Hold the line.”
Chan and Minho adjust their positions at once, tightening the defensive shape in front of Soobin. Yoongi drops a step deeper to anchor the midfield while Jimin and Hoseok push wide along the flanks.
For once, every movement unfolds exactly as intended.
The ball travels from Chan to Yoongi.
Yoongi takes a single touch before sending it forward with his usual precision.
Taehyung receives it cleanly, pivots, and lifts his head.
Jungkook is already moving.
This time, though, he waits.
The run comes when it's supposed to come.
Taehyung threads the pass into space.
Jungkook breaks through the defensive line and collects the ball without losing stride. A defender closes from the side, but a quick turn of his shoulder carries him past the challenge.
Inside the goal, Han braces himself.
“Not again.”
Jungkook shoots.
The ball rockets into the net before Han can shift across.
Han throws both hands into the air.
“I object.”
Hoseok laughs as he jogs forward.
“That was perfect.”
Jungkook turns toward midfield and lifts a hand in Taehyung's direction.
Across the field, Taehyung returns the gesture with a brief nod before turning his attention back to the next sequence.
The whistle sounds.
Players reset.
The ball moves quickly through the formation once more. A pass intended for midfield never reaches its target because Yoongi cuts it out first and redirects possession toward Taehyung.
Taehyung brings the ball under control and begins scanning the field.
Jungkook spots an opening.
The gap appears for only a moment.
It is enough.
Before the signal comes, he accelerates.
The ball is his a second later.
“Jungkook!” Minho calls.
The warning arrives too late.
Jungkook is already tearing down the field with the ball glued to his foot.
Jimin recognizes what he's doing and instantly breaks into a run alongside him.
“Left side!”
Jungkook glances across.
Jimin is there.
At the last possible moment, he flicks the ball into the winger's path.
Jimin collects it in stride and drives a shot toward goal.
Han dives.
The ball slips past him anyway and rolls into the net.
For a heartbeat, the field goes still.
Then the reactions begin.
Hoseok doubles over laughing.
Minho plants his hands on his hips and stares at the sky.
Yeonjun applauds with exaggerated enthusiasm.
Hyunjin looks seconds away from losing composure completely.
Han remains in the goal, staring at the ball behind him as though personally betrayed.
“I hate all of you.”
Jimin jogs backward wearing a triumphant grin.
“That was teamwork.”
Jungkook falls into step beside him.
“See? I can share.”
The argument that follows is interrupted by another round of laughter.
Across the field, Taehyung watches the scene unfold. A reluctant smile starts threatening the corner of his mouth before he reins it back in.
By the time Jungkook glances his way, the expression has vanished.
Only the captain remains, standing in midfield with the same composed focus he wears during every training session.
From the sideline, Namjoon watches the practice match unfold with his arms folded across his chest, tracking the movement of the team as possession shifts across the field.
Seokjin strolls up beside him.
“Look.”
Namjoon's attention remains on the pitch.
“What is it, Jin?”
Seokjin gestures behind him.
“I found a stray cat.”
That finally earns a glance.
Standing near the edge of the field is Felix. A pair of crutches supports most of his weight, and a sheepish smile spreads across his face when he realizes he's been spotted.
For a second, Namjoon simply stares. Then he's crossing the distance between them.
“Felix.”
Felix barely has time to react before Namjoon pulls him into a quick hug.
“What are you doing here?” Namjoon asks as he steps back to inspect him properly. “You should be in rehab.”
Felix scratches the back of his neck.
“I am.”
Seokjin lifts an eyebrow.
“Mostly.”
Felix's grin widens.
“I am mostly in rehab.”
Seokjin looks unconvinced.
“I just wanted to wish the boys luck,” Felix adds.
Out on the field, several players have already noticed him.
Hoseok is the first to react.
“OYE, FELIX!”
Jimin waves both arms over his head.
Even Han forgets about the goal he conceded moments ago.
Felix raises a hand toward them.
“Do not lose tomorrow, you idiots!”
That is all the encouragement the team needs.
Hoseok is already sprinting across the grass. He reaches Felix first and wraps him in a careful hug, keeping the crutches safely out of the way.
“You're an idiot,” Hoseok says, laughing. “We were two seconds away from filing a missing person report.”
Jimin arrives right behind him and immediately throws his arms around Felix.
“You should be resting.”
“I am resting,” Felix protests.
“You are standing on a football field.”
“That counts.”
“It absolutely does not.”
Yoongi reaches them next. His hug is brief but firm.
“Good to see you're upright, kiddo.”
Felix laughs.
“Barely upright.”
Minho follows with a clap on Felix's shoulder that is surprisingly gentle by his standards.
“Next time you scare us like that,” he says, “I'm tackling you personally.”
Han shakes his head as he pulls Felix into a quick embrace.
“Do not come near my goal again unless you are scoring.”
Yeonjun squeezes his way into the growing crowd.
“You missed my best performances.”
“I doubt that.”
Hyunjin slips an arm carefully around Felix's shoulders.
“The team looks different without you.”
Soobin's hug comes next, his tall frame briefly shielding Felix from view.
“You're healing well.”
“I am trying.”
Chan claps him lightly on the back.
“You worried everyone.”
Within minutes, most of the team is clustered around him. The mood shifts completely, laughter replacing the intensity that had dominated practice only moments earlier.
Taehyung approaches at a slower pace. He studies Felix for a moment before pulling him into a careful hug.
“You should be resting.”
Felix smiles.
“I know.”
Taehyung squeezes his shoulder once and steps back.
As the group settles again, one person remains a few steps away.
Jungkook.
The moment he starts walking toward Felix, several players exchange looks.
Minho glances sideways.
Jimin folds his arms.
Han's attention sharpens considerably.
Jungkook is the player who replaced Felix in the starting lineup. His arrival changed the shape of the team, filling the vacancy left behind by Felix's injury.
A curious hush settles over the group as he comes to a stop.
Jungkook opens his mouth.
Felix bursts out laughing.
Before anyone can figure out why, he leans forward and wraps Jungkook in a one-armed hug.
“Look at you.”
Jungkook laughs and hugs him back, careful of the crutches.
Around them, confusion spreads rapidly.
Yeonjun blinks.
“Wait.”
Han looks between them.
“You two know each other?”
Felix pulls back and adjusts his crutches.
“We go way back.”
Jimin raises an eyebrow.
“Define way back.”
Felix gestures toward Jungkook.
“We trained at the same academy.”
Jungkook nods.
“He used to beat everyone.”
Felix grins.
“I still do.”
Minho crosses his arms.
“So you two planned this.”
Felix shakes his head.
“I just convinced him to join.”
That revelation lands like a dropped weight.
Jimin's eyes widen.
“You recruited him?”
Felix shrugs.
“After my injury, the club needed a striker.”
His gaze shifts toward Jungkook.
“So I called him.”
Jungkook rubs the back of his neck.
“He is very persuasive.”
Felix beams.
“I told him the Titans needed a miracle.”
Jungkook shrugs.
“I cannot say no to him.”
A slow smile spreads across Hoseok's face.
“So this was an inside job.”
Yoongi chuckles.
“That explains a lot.”
Han points dramatically at Felix.
“You brought this chaos into our lives.”
Felix looks delighted by the accusation.
“You are welcome.”
Laughter ripples through the group again.
A few steps away, Taehyung watches the exchange unfold. Several pieces that never quite fit together suddenly make more sense. Jungkook's arrival, the timing of the transfer, all of it settles into place.
On the other side of the group, Jungkook glances up.
His gaze finds Taehyung's.
For a brief moment, the noise around them fades beneath the shared look before attention returns to Felix and the rest of the team.
Tomorrow, the championship begins.
Today, the Titans stand together and every piece of the team feels like it's finally in the right place.
The First Game
The stadium lights blaze against the early evening sky.
Seoul Titans' home ground is overflowing long before kickoff. Red and black banners ripple through the stands while thousands of supporters chant in rising waves of sound. Thunder sticks crack together. Drums pulse from the supporter sections.
The anticipation is impossible to miss.
Inside the tunnel, the Titans wait in a quiet line.
Boots shift against the concrete floor. Some players bounce lightly on their toes while others stare ahead, focused on the match waiting beyond the entrance.
Hoseok exhales slowly and shakes out his arms.
“Okay,” he says under his breath. “That is a lot of people.”
Han leans slightly toward the stadium entrance.
“Please remember,” he mutters, “I am the one who has to stop the ball.”
Minho nudges him with an elbow.
“You volunteered for the job.”
Jimin rolls his shoulders beside them, excitement flickering beneath his calm expression.
Yoongi stands nearby with his hands resting on his hips, his gaze fixed ahead.
Further down the line, Jungkook adjusts the tape around his wrist. His breathing remains steady, but his eyes drift briefly toward the wall of noise pouring in from the stadium.
At the front of the line stands Taehyung.
The captain's armband sits firmly against his sleeve.
He takes a slow breath.
Then the announcer's voice explodes across the stadium.
“Please welcome your home team...”
The response shakes the tunnel walls.
“…SEOUL TITANS!”
Taehyung steps forward.
The moment he emerges from the tunnel, the stadium erupts.
The crowd rises as one. Banners wave across the stands. Phone lights flash. His name rolls through the stadium in a thunderous chant.
“TAE-HYUNG! TAE-HYUNG! TAE-HYUNG!”
Taehyung lifts a hand toward the supporters before jogging onto the pitch.
The rest of the team follows.
Hoseok emerges laughing, feeding off the energy pouring down from the stands. Jimin raises a hand toward the crowd while Yoongi acknowledges the noise with a small nod.
Minho and Chan settle into position beside Soobin, exchanging quick looks as they move into the lineup.
Han adjusts the gloves tucked into his waistband as he takes his place.
Yeonjun and Hyunjin follow, taking in the atmosphere while the supporters continue chanting.
Then Jungkook steps out of the tunnel.
The stadium cameras swing toward him.
His face appears on the giant screen overlooking the stands.
A collective intake of breath ripples through the crowd.
The reaction that follows is deafening.
Fans leap to their feet as cheers crash through the stadium. The roar follows Jungkook across the field as he jogs onto the pitch, loud enough to rival the welcome given to the captain.
Jungkook blinks once, caught off guard by the sheer force of it.
Hoseok spots the reaction and laughs.
“Told you.”
Jungkook shakes his head, a grin pulling at the corner of his mouth as he joins the rest of the team.
The Titans gather along the midfield line while the club anthem begins to play.
Players stand shoulder to shoulder.
Across the stadium, thousands of supporters sing along. Red and black scarves rise into the air. Voices merge into a single sound that fills every corner of the ground.
When the anthem ends, the players remain in position while the opposing team's anthem plays. The Titans stand respectfully as the music echoes through the stadium.
Once the ceremony concludes, both teams begin moving into position, boots pressing into the grass as players spread across the pitch.
At midfield, Taehyung walks toward the center circle while the opposing captain approaches from the other side, the referee already waiting between them with the coin in hand.
The noise around the stadium softens slightly as the coin spins into the air and drops back into the referee's palm. After a brief glance at the result, he points toward the opposition.
The opposing captain gestures confidently toward the ball, having won the toss and elected to kick off. Taehyung nods once before turning back toward his team.
Across the field, the Titans begin settling into their positions.
Jungkook jogs toward the center spot, rolling his shoulders once as he settles into the striker’s position.
Behind him Taehyung and Yoongi move into the heart of midfield, the captain glancing around the formation one last time to make sure every line is set.
To the left Jimin takes his position along the wing, bouncing lightly on his feet as he eyes the open space ahead. On the opposite side Hoseok stretches his arms once before settling into his stance, ready to explode down the right flank.
Yeonjun hovers slightly ahead of midfield, shifting his weight from foot to foot with restless energy.
Along the defensive line Minho and Chan step into place while Soobin positions himself between them, tall and steady as he surveys the opposing attackers gathering across the halfway line.
At the far end Han walks backward into his goal, tapping the crossbar once for luck.
For a moment the formation holds. Eleven players in red and black.
Ready.
Taehyung lifts a hand briefly toward Jungkook at the center.
The signal.
The referee raises the whistle.
Forty thousand fans hold their breath.
The referee’s whistle cuts clean through the roar of the stadium. The ball rolls forward and the championship begins.
The opposing striker taps the ball forward and Jungkook is already moving, he steps in and steals it cleanly.
For the first few minutes the Titans move like a machine that has rehearsed every motion a thousand times before this moment. The ball travels quickly across the grass, passing from foot to foot with crisp precision while forty thousand voices rumble above them.
Yoongi settles into the rhythm of midfield almost immediately. Calm, economical touches redirect the ball wherever the pressure eases for half a second. When an opposing forward presses too aggressively, Yoongi pivots away from him and sends the ball gliding toward Taehyung without even looking.
Taehyung receives it smoothly.
He does not rush.
The captain lifts his head and surveys the field, taking in every movement before making his next call. Jimin is already sprinting along the left flank, his speed forcing the defense to stretch wider. Hoseok mirrors him on the opposite side, dragging another defender with him as he pushes up the wing.
Behind them Chan and Minho maintain a tight defensive line while Soobin hovers just behind, watchful as he reads the opponent’s movement.
The formation breathes together.
Taehyung shifts slightly, drawing one midfielder toward him before sliding a short pass back to Yoongi.
The ball moves again.
Yoongi sends it wide to Jimin, who cuts down the sideline with quick, dancing steps before returning the ball toward the center. Taehyung is already there waiting, collecting the pass with a soft touch and turning just as Jungkook bursts forward through the defensive line.
The opening appears for the briefest instant.
Taehyung sees it, his foot swings through the ball and sends a perfectly weighted pass slicing between two defenders.
Jungkook runs onto it.
For a heartbeat the stadium seems to hold its breath as he races toward the goal, one defender chasing at his shoulder.
Han shouts encouragement from the opposite end of the field.
“Finish it!”
Jungkook does.
The shot is quick and ruthless. The ball whistles past the goalkeeper’s outstretched hands and slams into the back of the net.
For a fraction of a second, it hangs there—
and then the roar breaks loose. It rolls across the stands like thunder as red and black scarves whip through the air. Jimin skids toward Jungkook with both arms raised while Hoseok arrives laughing, nearly tackling him in celebration.
“First blood!” Hoseok shouts.
Jungkook grins and turns toward midfield.
His eyes find Taehyung, he lifts two fingers in a quick salute.
Across the field Taehyung exhales slowly and nods once. For a moment they look exactly like what the Titans hoped they would become.
The perfect pair.
High above the field the commentators’ voices echo through the broadcast.
“That connection between Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook is exactly what the Seoul Titans have been searching for,” one of them says. “If those two keep linking up like that, this team could go all the way.”
Hope ripples through the stadium.
The Titans reset for kickoff.
But football is rarely that simple.
The opposing team adjusts quickly.
The next few minutes grow noticeably tighter as their midfield shifts formation. Two players begin shadowing Taehyung whenever he touches the ball, closing the space around him with relentless pressure.
The change works.
Suddenly the passing lanes that had opened so easily before begin to narrow. Taehyung receives the ball again but this time two defenders close in immediately, forcing him to pass backward instead of forward.
Yoongi collects it and tries to push the tempo again, but the defensive pressure follows the captain wherever he moves.
From the sideline Namjoon notices the shift instantly.
“Watch the midfield,” he calls.
On the field the Titans feel the difference.
The flow of their attack slows.
Taehyung drifts wider in search of space but the defenders track him relentlessly. Every time he turns, another body is already there waiting.
Jungkook watches it unfold. For several plays he follows the structure, waiting for the moment Taehyung calls the attack forward.
But the opening never comes.
When Yoongi wins the ball again near midfield, Jungkook suddenly drops back to meet the pass himself.
The movement is unexpected.
He intercepts the ball before it reaches Taehyung and spins away from the nearest defender in one fluid motion.
A ripple of excitement runs through the crowd.
Jungkook accelerates. He drives straight through the center of the field, slipping between two defenders with reckless confidence before unleashing a long shot from outside the box.
The ball sails wide.
The stadium groans.
Taehyung lifts his hands briefly in frustration.
“Pass it,” he calls.
Jungkook jogs backward with a careless shrug.
The next possession looks similar.
Yoongi regains control of the ball and sends it forward again, but this time Jungkook drops deeper once more, cutting across the formation to steal the pass before it reaches Taehyung.
He dribbles past one defender, then another. The crowd rises to its feet as he drives toward the goal again.
Minho shouts from the defensive line.
“Move the ball!”
Jungkook shoots. The shot rockets toward the top corner but glances off the outside of the post and spins away.
Another wave of noise crashes through the stadium. This time it is a mixture of cheers and groans.
Across the field Taehyung stands with his hands on his hips.
Their eyes meet briefly.
Jungkook just grins.
The crowd has begun to notice. Whispers ripple through the stands as the replay flashes across the giant screen.
The commentators pick up on it immediately.
“Jungkook looks eager to take matters into his own hands here,” one voice says. “But the Titans’ strategy runs through their captain.”
“Right now those two seem to be playing slightly different games.”
Down on the field Taehyung raises a hand again, calling for the next pass.
Jungkook sees him. He keeps running anyway and the tension between captain and striker begins to sharpen.
The match resumes with the same restless energy that has been building since Jungkook began breaking formation.
The crowd feels it now.
The stadium screens replay the earlier moments on a loop. Jungkook slipping past defenders. Jungkook shooting from impossible distances. Jungkook ignoring the captain’s raised hand.
The replay ends with Taehyung standing in midfield, arms spread in visible frustration.
A murmur ripples through the stands. Then the chant begins.
“JUNG-KOOK! JUNG-KOOK! JUNG-KOOK!”
It spreads quickly across the stadium like a wave. Thousands of voices rising together.
Jungkook hears it. He glances briefly toward the stands before jogging back into position.
Across the field Taehyung hears it too. His expression does not change, but something tightens in the way he straightens his shoulders.
High above the pitch the commentators’ voices carry through the broadcast.
“Jeon Jungkook has certainly made an impact tonight,” one of them says. “But you can see a little tension developing between him and the Titans captain.”
His co commentator chuckles softly.
“There seems to be a slight disagreement about how the game should be played.”
On the field the tension continues to build.
Yoongi intercepts the ball again near midfield and sends it toward Taehyung.
Two defenders close in instantly.
Taehyung pivots away from the pressure and spots the opening forming along the left side. Jimin is already sprinting forward into space.
“Jimin!” Taehyung calls.
He gestures sharply with his hand, signaling the play.
Jungkook sees the signal.
The formation shifts.
Hoseok stretches the right flank. Yeonjun drifts into the center channel to pull defenders away. Jimin continues his run down the wing.
Everything moves exactly as Taehyung planned.
Except Jungkook. Instead of drifting toward the open lane, he cuts straight through the middle and demands the ball with a quick gesture.
Taehyung hesitates for half a second. Then he sends the pass toward Jimin anyway.
Jungkook changes direction. He intercepts it before the ball reaches the wing.
The defenders close immediately.
Instead of passing, Jungkook drives straight through them.
The crowd rises again.
“JUNG-KOOK!”
He beats the first defender with a sharp turn. The second lunges for the tackle.
Jungkook tries to slip past him with a flashy dribble. The ball rolls too far ahead.
The defender steals it cleanly. In an instant the momentum flips. The opposing team launches a counterattack.
Chan turns and sprints. Minho tracks the forward cutting through the center. Soobin drops deeper to block the passing lane.
But the opponent moves fast. The ball flies toward the edge of the penalty area.
Han rushes forward.
The striker shoots.
Han dives. His glove clips the ball just enough to push it wide of the post.
The stadium gasps.
Han rolls onto his back and stares up at the sky.
“Oh come on,” he groans.
The whistle blows for the corner.
Across the field Taehyung stands frozen for a moment. Then the frustration finally snaps.
“JUNGKOOK!”
His voice cuts across the pitch. Every player hears it.
Jungkook turns.
Taehyung strides toward him, anger burning through the calm mask he usually keeps so carefully in place.
“That was not the play,” Taehyung says sharply.
Jungkook lifts his hands.
“I almost had it.”
“You almost gave them a goal.”
The words hang between them.
Jungkook steps closer.
“You are not the only one who can score.”
“And you are not the only one on this team,” Taehyung fires back.
The referee rushes toward them before the argument escalates further.
“Enough,” he says firmly.
Players from both sides begin drifting closer.
Jimin grabs Taehyung’s arm.
“Hey,” he mutters. “Not here, not now.”
Yoongi steps between them calmly, though his eyes flick toward Jungkook with a quiet warning.
The stadium cameras capture everything. The giant screen shows the two star players arguing in the center of the field. A wave of excited chatter ripples through the stands.
The commentators sound almost delighted.
“Well there is no hiding the tension now.”
“This is championship football at its most dramatic.”
On the sideline Namjoon looks like he might spontaneously combust.
“Does he think this is street football?” he snaps.
Beside him Seokjin watches the field with a tight smile.
“If they start fighting on national television,” Seokjin says calmly, “I am resigning.”
Namjoon drags a hand through his hair.
“Not today,” he mutters.
The match resumes. The energy has shifted again. Now the tension between captain and striker sparks beneath every movement.
Taehyung refuses to look at Jungkook.
The Titans move the ball through midfield again. Yoongi wins possession and slides the pass forward.
Taehyung collects it.
Two defenders close in instantly.
He pivots away from them with a smooth turn and spots the opening forming near the penalty area.
Jungkook is already moving.
For a moment Taehyung hesitates, then he sends the pass.
It is perfect.
The ball slices through the defenders and lands exactly in Jungkook’s path. Jungkook meets it in full stride.
The shot comes instantly.
The ball rockets past the goalkeeper and slams into the net.
The stadium erupts.
The scoreboard flickers.
Seoul Titans: 2
Opposition: 0
Jungkook slows near the edge of the penalty area, chest rising and falling as the roar of the stadium crashes over him.
The goal is still echoing through the stands. Red and black flags whip through the air. Thousands of voices chant his name.
But Jungkook barely hears it, he turns, eyes searching the field, they land on Taehyung.
The captain is already jogging back toward midfield, calm and composed as if the stadium is not erupting around them.
Jungkook stays where he is.
Watching.
Waiting.
The distance between them stretches across half the field.
For a moment it seems like Taehyung might glance his way but he does not, he keeps moving past the center circle, past the celebrating players rushing toward Jungkook.
Taehyung never looks back.
The message is unmistakable.
Jungkook’s smile fades slightly. He exhales once, shaking his head before turning away and jogging back toward the center circle himself.
The celebration crashes into him a moment later.
Hoseok barrels into his side laughing.
“Winning goal!”
Jimin grabs the back of his jersey.
“You maniac!”
Yeonjun throws an arm around his shoulders while Hyunjin claps loudly behind them.
Across the field the rest of the Titans regroup as the final minutes tick away.
But the moment between captain and striker lingers quietly beneath the noise.
The match resumes.
The opposition pushes forward desperately in the final minutes, launching long balls into the Titans’ defensive half. Chan and Minho close the space quickly while Soobin clears the aerial passes with steady confidence.
Yoongi controls the midfield like a metronome, slowing the pace whenever the game threatens to spiral.
Han shouts instructions from the goal, swatting away the last desperate cross that sails into the penalty area.
The referee checks his watch.
The whistle shrieks through the stadium.
The match is over.
There’s a brief pause, like the crowd needs to catch up. Then it hits all at once. The stands erupt into a storm of noise as thousands of supporters leap to their feet. Scarves spin through the air while the Titans’ anthem begins echoing across the stadium speakers.
Hoseok throws both arms up and runs straight into Jimin, nearly tackling him into the grass in celebration.
“First win!” Hoseok shouts.
Jimin laughs breathlessly as Yeonjun and Hyunjin rush over to join them. Soobin pulls Minho into a quick hug while Chan claps Yoongi on the shoulder.
Han spreads his arms dramatically toward the sky.
“I survived!”
Yoongi chuckles quietly.
“You played well.”
Han beams at the praise.
Around them the Titans celebrate the opening victory of their championship run.
High above the field the commentators are still speaking over the roar of the crowd.
“What a start for Seoul Titans,” one voice says. “Two goals and a thrilling performance in front of their home crowd.”
His partner hums thoughtfully.
“They look dangerous this season. But I have to say, the chemistry between their captain and their new striker is… interesting.”
The broadcast cameras sweep across the field, capturing players caught up in the celebration. Hoseok laughs as he points toward the stands, Jimin shouts something that disappears beneath the noise of the crowd, Yeonjun waves dramatically at the supporters, and Han gestures triumphantly toward the scoreboard as though he personally scored every goal himself.
The camera eventually finds midfield.
Taehyung stands there catching his breath with his hands resting on his hips while a short distance away Jungkook wipes the sweat from the back of his neck. The chaos of the celebration swirls around them, yet for a brief moment their attention drifts in the same direction.
Jungkook glances up.
Taehyung is already looking at him.
The look lasts no more than a second before teammates begin closing the distance again. Hoseok reaches them first, throwing an arm around Jungkook's shoulders while Jimin grabs Taehyung and pulls him toward the rest of the group. Laughter, shouting, and congratulations swallow the moment as the team gathers together beneath the continuing roar of the stadium.
The Titans have won their opening championship match, and the supporters will spend the night celebrating the result. Inside the team, however, another story continues to take shape, woven through every match, every argument, and every shared victory between their captain and their star striker.
Locker Room Chaos
The locker room is loud when the team returns from the field.
The adrenaline of the match still clings to everyone. Voices overlap as players drop their bags, kick off their boots, and relive moments from the game before they've even had time to sit down. Hoseok is still laughing about Han's dramatic dive in the final minutes while Yeonjun reenacts Jungkook's goal with enough enthusiasm to qualify as a one-man performance.
“You should have seen the defender's face,” Yeonjun says, spinning an imaginary ball across the floor.
“I saw it,” Han replies while tugging off his shoes. “I was suffering through it.”
Minho tosses a towel at him.
“Zero goals conceded. Try to keep it that way.”
Han rolls his eyes.
“God forbid I have personality.”
Soobin is halfway through unlacing his boots when the locker room door swings open again.
Taehyung walks in.
The roar of the stadium still echoes faintly through the walls behind him, but the energy he carries is completely different from the rest of the team. His expression is tight, and the moment he steps into the room, conversations begin fading one by one.
People feel it before they understand it.
Taehyung crosses the locker room without slowing.
Not toward his locker, but toward Jungkook.
Jungkook is leaning against a bench, peeling the tape from his wrist. He looks up as Taehyung approaches but makes no effort to move.
Around them, voices continue for another few seconds before gradually dying out.
Taehyung stops directly in front of him.
“You think that was a good game?”
Jungkook lifts his head.
“We won.”
“That is not what I asked.”
Jungkook pulls the last strip of tape free and drops it onto the bench beside him.
“I scored the winning goal.”
Taehyung's jaw tightens.
“You broke formation multiple times.”
“And created chances.”
“You almost handed them the match.”
Jungkook shrugs.
“Almost does not count.”
The last traces of conversation disappear from the room.
Jimin lowers the water bottle he'd been drinking from.
Across the benches, several players exchange glances.
Taehyung takes a step forward.
“This is not street football,” he says. “You follow the play.”
Jungkook meets his gaze.
“I did.”
“Only when it suited you.”
“That is called instinct.”
“That is called arrogance.”
The words strike harder than either of them intends.
Jungkook straightens.
“And what do you call ignoring your striker when he's open in front of goal?”
Taehyung's eyes narrow.
“You were not open.”
“I was.”
“You were marked.”
“I could still beat them.”
“You already tried that.”
“And still scored.”
The tension pulls tighter.
On a nearby bench, Minho glances toward Chan.
“Should we intervene?”
Chan considers it.
“Not yet.”
Soobin quietly sets his boots aside, his attention fixed on the two players standing in the center of the room.
Taehyung draws a slow breath, trying to contain the frustration visible in every line of his posture.
“You are not bigger than the team.”
A short laugh escapes Jungkook.
“You think I believe that?”
“Then start acting like it.”
“I am.”
“You are acting like you're the only one on the field.”
Jungkook pushes away from the bench and rises to his full height.
The distance between them disappears.
“You want robots,” Jungkook says. “Not players.”
“I want discipline.”
“You want control.”
“I am the captain.”
“Then stop acting like a dictator.”
The room falls silent. Even the players pretending not to watch have given up the act. Hoseok slowly lowers himself onto a bench. Yeonjun freezes halfway through a stretch. Hyunjin watches with undisguised fascination. Yoongi folds his arms across his chest.
What began as an argument about tactics has drifted far beyond football.
Taehyung steps closer.
“You think you can walk into this team and do whatever you want.”
Jungkook holds his ground.
“You think you can control everything that happens on that field.”
“That is my job.”
“Not when it suffocates the game.”
Taehyung's voice drops lower.
“You are reckless.”
“And you are rigid.”
The words hang between them. Around the room, players remain perfectly still, as though any sudden movement might make the situation worse.
Minho rubs a hand across his face.
“This is getting serious.”
Chan's expression suggests he agrees.
Across the room, Jimin leans toward Yoongi.
“Do you feel that? The sexual tension?”
Yoongi studies the two men standing inches apart.
“Yeah.”
Jimin waits.
“They are definitely going to kiss, eventually.”
A grin spreads across Jimin's face.
“You think so?”
Yoongi shrugs.
“Statistically inevitable.”
The locker room door opens before Jimin can respond. Namjoon walks in with Seokjin beside him, and both stop the moment they take in the scene before them.
The room is silent, every player is watching and Taehyung and Jungkook remain locked in place at the center of it all.
Namjoon closes his eyes briefly.
“Oh no.”
Beside him, Seokjin looks far less surprised.
“I knew this would happen.”
Namjoon starts forward.
“That is enough.”
The command cuts through the room yet Taehyung and Jungkook stay exactly where they are.
Seokjin steps between them with the calm confidence of a man who has spent years managing difficult personalities.
“You two can continue this discussion later,” he says, his gaze briefly sweeping across the room. “Preferably somewhere that does not involve the entire locker room watching.”
Behind him, Yeonjun leans toward Hyunjin.
“I feel robbed.”
Hyunjin nods solemnly.
“It was just getting good.”
Despite the joke, the atmosphere has shifted.
The rivalry between the captain and the striker no longer feels like a disagreement over formations, passing lanes, or tactics. Every person in the room can sense that much.
Taehyung's shoulders remain rigid for another moment before some of the tension finally drains away. His gaze shifts beyond Jungkook and only then does he seem to register the room around him.
Minho sits frozen halfway through untying his shoes. Hoseok hasn't moved from the bench. Yeonjun is still leaning forward with obvious curiosity, though he's making a poor attempt to hide it. Even Han has stopped peeling tape from his wrists. The concern on their faces lands harder than any argument.
Taehyung drags a hand through his damp hair and releases a slow breath.
Seokjin watches him carefully.
When Taehyung looks in his direction, Seokjin doesn't say a word.
“There is no need,” Taehyung says at last, his voice flat. “I'm done with him.”
The words settle heavily over the room.
Without waiting for a response, he turns and heads for the locker room door, still dressed in his sweat-soaked jersey and grass-stained shorts.
A second later, the door swings shut behind him with a dull thud.
For a moment, nobody moves.
Seokjin glances sideways at Namjoon, and the look that passes between them lasts less than a second before Namjoon gives a single nod. Without a word, he turns, pushes open the locker room door, and heads into the hallway after Taehyung.
The room falls quiet in his wake.
Seokjin slowly turns back toward the team, his gaze sweeping across the players. He doesn't say a word, but he doesn't need to.
The message is clear.
Scatter.
Around the room, players begin moving almost at once.
Yeonjun claps his hands together.
“Showers,” he announces with exaggerated brightness.
Hoseok is already reaching for his towel.
“Great idea.”
Han jumps to his feet.
“Yes. Hygiene.”
Minho throws an arm around Chan's shoulders as they start toward the hallway.
“Let us pretend we saw nothing.”
Soobin rises from the bench and nudges Hyunjin toward the showers.
Jimin stretches his arms overhead and shoots a glance toward Jungkook before falling into step beside Yoongi.
Within moments, the locker room begins emptying in a coordinated retreat that nobody acknowledges aloud.
Jungkook pushes himself off the bench and reaches for his towel.
“Alright,” he mutters, but just as he takes a step toward the exit, Seokjin's voice cuts across the room.
“Not you.”
Jungkook stops.
Seokjin stands near the center of the locker room with his arms folded neatly across his chest.
“I need to talk to you.”
There is enough authority in his tone to end any thought of argument.
Jungkook slowly turns back. The room grows even quieter as the last of the players disappear down the hallway. For a second, it looks as though he's waiting for Seokjin to start the conversation.
He doesn't make it that far.
“You can't be serious, hyung.”
The words spill out before Seokjin can speak.
Jungkook drags a hand through his hair, frustration from the argument still lingering beneath the surface.
“I was just trying to get the team to score,” he says. “They had Taehyung locked down the whole second half. Two defenders on him the entire time. There was no opening.”
He gestures toward the door Taehyung disappeared through.
“That’s why I took matters into my own hands.”
Seokjin listens without interrupting.
Jungkook exhales sharply.
“Why is he so pissed? We won, didn't we? I scored two goals.”
For a few seconds, Seokjin says nothing. He studies the younger player standing in front of him before finally nodding.
“I know.”
The calm response catches Jungkook off guard.
Seokjin takes a few steps closer.
“I watched the entire match.”
His voice remains measured, almost conversational.
“You were brilliant.”
Jungkook blinks.
“You were faster than their back line,” Seokjin continues. “You found gaps before anyone else saw them. That first goal was exactly what we needed to settle the team.”
Some of the tension leaves Jungkook's shoulders.
Seokjin watches it happen.
“That’s exactly the problem.”
Jungkook frowns.
“You scored.”
The words land quietly between them.
“You scored on your own instinct,” Seokjin continues. “Without the team.”
The locker room suddenly feels larger.
Jungkook opens his mouth, then closes it again as a flicker of understanding crosses his face.
Seokjin sees it.
“If you want to keep scoring like that,” he says calmly, “then you don't even need the team.”
Jungkook shifts his weight as Seokjin continues.
“Or the captain. And certainly not the coach.”
Seokjin folds his arms again.
“Right?”
Jungkook releases a slow breath.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“But that’s how it looked.”
Seokjin's voice never rises.
“You seem to know exactly where the ball should go. Exactly when to break formation. Exactly when to ignore the strategy.”
Jungkook rubs the back of his neck.
“I saw the gap.”
“I believe you.”
The response comes easily.
“That’s not the issue.”
Jungkook drops his gaze briefly before looking back up.
“He was being marked,” he says, his voice quieter now. “They shut him down.”
“Yes.” Seokjin nods. “That’s what good teams do.”
He lets the thought settle before continuing.
“When they shut down the captain, the rest of the team adapts.”
Jungkook gives a faint nod.
Seokjin gestures toward the empty locker room.
“Yoongi controls the midfield. Jimin and Hoseok stretch the defense. Chan and Minho hold the back line.”
His gaze returns to Jungkook.
“And you finish the play.”
Jungkook's jaw tightens.
“I did finish it.”
“You finished everything.”
The words aren't harsh, but their weight is impossible to miss. Seokjin leans back against a row of lockers.
“You are a striker. Your instinct to score is exactly why we wanted you here.”
Jungkook watches him more carefully now.
“But a striker doesn't play alone.”
The quiet that follows lacks the volatility that filled the room earlier, leaving Jungkook with far more to think about than to argue against.
“You think Taehyung was angry because you scored,” Seokjin says.
Jungkook doesn't answer.
“He was angry because you stopped playing with the team.”
Jungkook's eyes drift toward the door.
Seokjin catches the reaction.
“Taehyung builds the play,” he says. “The team moves through him. When you ignore that structure, you're not just ignoring the captain.”
He pauses briefly.
“You're ignoring everyone.”
Jungkook exhales slowly. The frustration that fueled the confrontation begins to give way to thought.
“I wasn't trying to show him up,” he says at last.
“I know.”
Seokjin's voice softens.
“But that's how it looked.”
Jungkook leans back against the locker behind him and releases another quiet breath.
This time he doesn't rush to defend himself.
“So what?” he asks after a while. “I just follow every call even if I see a better shot?”
A faint smile touches Seokjin's face.
“No.”
Jungkook raises an eyebrow.
“You still trust your instincts.”
Seokjin taps the locker beside him.
“But you trust the team too.”
Jungkook considers that.
“And the captain?”
The smile grows slightly.
“Especially the captain.”
Jungkook lets out a quiet huff.
“That might take some work.”
Seokjin chuckles.
“I expected as much.”
The conversation settles into a comfortable pause before Seokjin finally pushes himself away from the lockers.
“Go shower,” he says. “Before the others flood back in.”
Jungkook nods and as he heads toward the hallway, his thoughts are no longer fixed on the goals he scored. They keep circling back to the captain who walked out of the locker room without looking back.
,
The hallway outside the locker room is quiet.
Most of the noise from inside has faded, replaced by the distant sound of running showers echoing from farther down the corridor. Taehyung stands near the end of the hallway in his damp jersey, dried sweat marking the collar of his shirt and grass stains streaking the edge of his shorts. He pays little attention to any of it. One hand rests against his hip while the other drags through his hair as he stares down the empty corridor, trying to cool the storm still moving through his chest.
The locker room door opens behind him.
Namjoon steps out and pauses when he spots him. For a few seconds, he simply watches the younger man standing there with tension still visible in the set of his shoulders before crossing the hallway and stopping beside him.
“Tae.”
Taehyung glances sideways.
Namjoon leans against the wall.
“You want to talk about it.”
A short breath leaves Taehyung through his nose.
“There’s nothing to talk about, coach.”
Namjoon lets the response sit. Years of coaching have taught him that patience usually gets him further than pressure ever will, and after several seconds pass, Taehyung proves the point himself.
“He ignored the set sequence.”
Namjoon nods.
“I saw.”
“He intercepted my passes.”
“I saw that too.”
The frustration rises again as Taehyung turns toward him.
“He broke formation in the middle of the championship opener.”
Namjoon lifts his hands slightly in a calming gesture.
“He’s young, Tae. He’s still settling into the team.”
Taehyung stares at him.
“He’s a year younger than me, hyung.”
The words come out sharper than he intends.
Namjoon sighs.
“You know what I mean.”
Taehyung shakes his head and pushes away from the wall, pacing several steps down the corridor before turning back.
“No. I don’t.”
He drags a hand through his hair again.
“I’m not mad that he scored.”
Namjoon remains quiet, allowing him to continue.
“I’m mad that he disrespected me.”
His voice drops lower as his gaze shifts toward the locker room door.
“In front of the team.”
His eyes move farther down the corridor, toward the stadium hidden beyond concrete walls and closed doors.
“In front of the opposition.”
The restraint he's been holding onto finally begins to crack.
“In front of forty thousand people.”
He lets out a frustrated breath and looks back at Namjoon.
“Do you know how embarrassing that is?”
Namjoon nods.
“I know.”
He holds Taehyung's gaze.
“I understand where you're coming from.”
The tension in Taehyung's shoulders remains exactly where it is.
“Seokjin is talking to him right now,” Namjoon says. “He'll get his head straight.”
Taehyung folds his arms across his chest.
“And if it doesn't work?”
Namjoon hesitates.
Taehyung catches it.
“Are we still going to entertain him because he's a star player?”
The quiet returns to the hallway as Namjoon rubs the back of his neck and searches for the right answer.
“Tae.”
He exhales slowly.
“You both need to trust each other.”
Taehyung says nothing.
“You're the captain,” Namjoon continues, “and he's the striker this team needed.”
His voice softens.
“You work together.”
Taehyung studies him for a long moment before turning toward the hallway that leads to the dorm rooms.
“I'll handle it, hyung.”
The words are calm, too calm.
He starts walking away, and Namjoon watches him go, taking in the straight line of his back and the steady pace that makes him look composed again, though the tension riding his shoulders tells a very different story.
When Taehyung disappears around the corner, Namjoon lets out a quiet breath.
“Oh dear,” he murmurs. “That’s never a good sign.”
,
The cabin lights dim once the plane reaches cruising altitude.
The Titans' charter flight moves steadily through the night sky, carrying the team across the country toward their first away match of the championship run. The victory from earlier that evening still lingers in tired muscles and aching legs, but the tension that followed it has made the trip feel longer than usual. After a day filled with travel, adrenaline, and ninety minutes of football, exhaustion finally begins to win.
Across the cabin, players sink deeper into their seats.
Hoseok falls asleep almost as soon as the seatbelt sign switches off, his head tilted back at an angle that looks deeply uncomfortable and his headphones sliding dangerously close to the floor. Yeonjun claims the window seat and drifts off with his forehead resting against the glass while Hyunjin scrolls through photos from the match beside him until fatigue catches up and his phone slips from his hand.
A few rows over, Minho sleeps with his arms folded across his chest as though he's guarding the aisle, while Chan continues reading from his tablet until the words blur together and his eyes finally close. Further back, Han snores softly beneath a team hoodie pulled over his head, and even Soobin, who spent the first part of the flight reviewing match footage, has given in to sleep with his seat reclined.
Only a handful of lights remain on.
Near the front of the plane, Namjoon sits beside Seokjin with a notebook open on the tray table in front of him. He hasn't written anything in several minutes. The pen rests loosely between his fingers while he stares at a page that remains stubbornly blank.
Beside him, Seokjin releases a frustrated sigh.
“Do we coach football,” he mutters, “or run a daycare?”
Namjoon glances down at the notebook before closing it.
“Both, apparently.”
Seokjin lets his hand fall back into his lap.
“For a moment today, I genuinely thought they were going to start swinging at each other.”
Namjoon rubs a hand across his face.
“That would have been easier to handle.”
Seokjin turns toward him.
“Oh?”
“A fight ends quickly,” Namjoon says, gesturing toward the sleeping cabin behind them. “This kind of tension lingers.”
Seokjin exhales through his nose.
“You saw the broadcast commentary.”
Namjoon grimaces.
“I heard it.”
“‘Interesting chemistry,’” Seokjin repeats dryly. “That is one way to describe it.”
Namjoon settles back against his seat.
“They are both right.”
That earns a sideways glance.
“Care to elaborate?”
Namjoon looks down the length of the darkened cabin before answering.
“Taehyung built this team's structure. Everything runs through him.”
“And Jungkook disrupts that structure,” Seokjin says, picking up the thought before Namjoon can finish it.
“Exactly.”
Seokjin taps his fingers against the armrest.
“Which is also why he scores.”
Namjoon gives a small nod.
“Which is also why Taehyung is furious.”
The conversation pauses there.
Two rows behind them, Yoongi and Jimin are very much awake. Jimin has a blanket pulled all the way up to his chin, but his eyes remain wide open as he leans toward Yoongi.
“They are talking about them again.”
Yoongi doesn't bother opening his eyes.
“Obviously.”
Jimin lowers his voice.
“Do you think this is going to explode?”
Yoongi considers the question for a moment.
“Already did.”
A laugh threatens to escape before Jimin manages to swallow it.
At the front of the cabin, Seokjin continues watching the sleeping players scattered throughout the rows.
“You know what worries me?”
Namjoon turns his head.
“They play beautifully together.”
A slow nod follows.
“Yes.”
“That goal sequence in the second half,” Seokjin continues. “When Taehyung finally passed to him again.”
Despite everything, a faint smile appears on Namjoon's face.
“Perfect timing.”
Seokjin gestures toward the rest of the plane.
“That is the terrifying part.”
Namjoon raises an eyebrow.
“When those two actually cooperate,” Seokjin says quietly, “the rest of the league will suffer.”
A quiet chuckle escapes Namjoon.
“First we need them to survive each other.”
Behind them, Jimin leans toward Yoongi again.
“I still think they are going to kiss.”
Yoongi cracks one eye open.
“You are obsessed with that theory.”
Jimin shrugs beneath the blanket.
“Look at them.”
He gestures toward the front of the cabin.
Yoongi follows the gesture, glancing briefly at Namjoon and Seokjin before looking back at Jimin.
“Wrong couple.”
Jimin's eyes widen.
“Wait, you know something I don't.”
Yoongi closes his eyes again.
“Give it time.”
“YOONGI.”
“Go to sleep.”
ACT 2 — The Tension Builds
Media Rivalry
The Titans do not stay in Seoul for long after their opening victory.
Championship football moves quickly. Before the adrenaline from the first win has a chance to fade, the team is back on the road again, moving from one city to the next as away stadiums begin to blur together. New crowds fill the stands every few days, fresh headlines wait at every airport, and wherever the Titans go, cameras follow close behind.
The media has found a story, and it refuses to let go.
⸻
The second match takes place in a stadium far smaller than the Titans' home ground, but the atmosphere feels no less intense.
This time, what catches everyone's attention has nothing to do with the opposition. From the opening whistle, Jungkook follows the structure Taehyung sets across the field. When Taehyung signals the press, Jungkook presses. When the captain slows the tempo, Jungkook drifts back into position without argument. The difference is obvious enough that the entire team picks up on it, and Taehyung notices too.
Midway through the second half, the Titans launch a clean attack. Yoongi wins possession near midfield and slips the ball forward while Jimin stretches the left flank and Hoseok pulls two defenders toward the right. When the opening appears, Jungkook makes his run and arrives in exactly the position Taehyung would expect for the final pass. He's perfectly placed, and everyone sees it. Taehyung sees it. The crowd sees it. Half the stadium rises in anticipation of the through ball.
Then Taehyung cuts sharply inside the defensive line instead.
The defenders hesitate for a fraction too long, and before they can recover, the ball is already flying toward the bottom corner of the net. The Titans' bench erupts as the shot hits the back of the goal, while Jungkook slows near the penalty area and watches Taehyung jog away from the celebration, understanding exactly why the captain chose to take the shot himself.
Later that night, Jungkook storms into the locker room still wearing half of his match gear.
“You did that on purpose.”
Taehyung is sitting on a bench removing the tape from his wrists.
“I was open.”
Jungkook stops in front of him, and when Taehyung finally looks up, there is no anger waiting there. A faint smirk tugs at the corner of his mouth before he rises to his feet and walks straight past Jungkook without answering.
A few seconds later, the showers come to life deeper in the locker room, leaving Jungkook staring at the tiled wall while the meaning of that goal sinks in.
Across the room, Minho leans toward Chan.
“Was that revenge?”
Chan watches Taehyung disappear around the corner.
“Definitely revenge.”
The next away match swings the pendulum back in the opposite direction because any hope that Jungkook has learned his lesson disappears within the opening ten minutes. He intercepts a pass intended for Jimin and launches a shot from thirty meters that misses the crossbar by inches, drawing a look of disbelief from Taehyung, and the situation only gets worse during the next attack when Jungkook ignores another signal and dribbles directly into three defenders before losing possession.
From the goal, Han's voice cuts across the field.
“I would appreciate fewer heart attacks today.”
The game quickly becomes a defensive battle as the opposition launches attack after attack and forces the Titans deeper into their own half. Han turns into the unlikely hero of the evening, throwing himself across goal for one save, then another, then a third, somehow keeping the score level deep into the final minutes.
With the match still tied, a fortunate deflection drops at Jungkook's feet and he hammers the ball past the keeper before anyone else can react. The goal secures another victory, though any celebration is short-lived once the team returns to the locker room.
The argument picks up exactly where it left off.
Taehyung and Jungkook stand near the center of the room while the rest of the team watches with the exhausted resignation of people who have seen this show before, their heads turning back and forth as though they're following a rally in a tennis match.
Minho rubs his face.
“This feels like watching ping pong.”
Yeonjun nods.
“I have stopped understanding the score.”
Hoseok leans against the lockers.
“Are they playing football or their own private tournament?”
Even Namjoon and Seokjin look worn down.
Seokjin folds his arms.
“I am running out of patience.”
Namjoon rubs his temple.
“I ran out three weeks ago.”
The third away match unfolds differently.
The tension between Taehyung and Jungkook still simmers beneath the surface, but the spotlight drifts elsewhere when the match remains scoreless heading into the final twenty minutes. A careless pass near midfield gives Yoongi an opportunity, and he calmly slides the ball forward to Jimin, who bursts through the defensive line and chips it neatly over the goalkeeper before anyone can close him down.
The goal secures a 1-0 victory.
Jimin celebrates briefly before jogging back toward midfield, where Yoongi greets him with a small nod, but over the following days the team starts noticing another pattern entirely.
During the bus ride back to the hotel that night, Jimin ends up beside Yoongi again, just as he always does when nobody volunteers for the quiet seat. At first they share snacks, with Jimin stealing half of Yoongi's chocolate bar while watching match highlights on a tablet and Yoongi pretending not to notice. The habit continues over the following days as they watch previous matches together on flights and bus rides, reviewing plays and arguing softly over tactics.
One night, Jimin falls asleep halfway through a replay and his head slips onto Yoongi's shoulder. Yoongi glances down at him but makes no effort to wake him, and across the aisle Hoseok notices first. He nudges Minho, who follows his gaze to the sleeping pair before looking back at him. The glance they exchange says more than a conversation ever could, and by the end of the trip the rest of the team has picked up on it too.
Outside the club, the Titans' internal drama has become a story of its own.
Sports channels replay clips of Taehyung and Jungkook arguing on the pitch while talk shows speculate endlessly about what is happening behind the scenes. Every week brings another round of headlines.
Captain vs Rising Star.
Can Two Kings Share the Field?
Are the Titans Winning Despite Their Rivalry?
Taehyung hates every word of it. Losing control of the narrative irritates him more than the arguments themselves, while Jungkook appears almost entertained by the attention and answers interview questions with an easy grin that only fuels the speculation further.
By the time the Titans finally return to Seoul, the tension surrounding the team has settled into place like a permanent cloud.
Their next opponent has dominated the league for years. This is the team everyone measures themselves against, and the match will be played in front of a packed home crowd. When the team bus rolls into the stadium tunnel, even the usual chatter fades because every player understands the weight of what is waiting for them.
If the Titans want to win tonight, their captain and their striker will have to stop fighting each other long enough to focus on the team standing across the field.
The Must-Win Match
The Titans' home stadium feels different tonight.
The noise is louder than usual, with the stands filling long before kickoff and red and black banners rippling across the terraces as supporters wait for the match everyone has spent the week talking about. Their opponents have spent years sitting at the top of the league, turning consistency into a dynasty and forcing every other club to measure success against them.
The Titans walk out to a wall of sound, yet the energy hanging over the stadium feels heavier than electric.
The locker room before the match had been unusually quiet. Namjoon laid out the strategy in clear, precise terms: press early, control midfield, stretch the wings, and play through Taehyung. Everyone understood the plan. Everyone nodded.
The whistle blows, and the match begins.
At first, the Titans execute exactly what they practiced. Yoongi settles into midfield with his usual calm authority, intercepting passes and redirecting the flow of the game with quick, economical touches while Jimin and Hoseok push wide enough to stretch the defense and create passing lanes through the center. Behind them, Chan, Minho, and Soobin maintain a disciplined back line in front of Han's goal, allowing the team's structure to settle into place.
For the opening ten minutes, it works.
Taehyung moves through midfield the way he always does, reading the game several steps ahead and guiding attacks forward through sharp, deliberate passes. Jungkook stays in position and waits for the right moment, and for a while it looks as though the balance they've spent weeks chasing might finally be within reach.
Then the opposition adjusts.
Their midfield collapses inward, cutting away the space around Taehyung and sending two defenders toward him every time he touches the ball. The pressure grows with every possession, forcing the Titans to adapt. Taehyung signals for the wings to rotate, Jimin shifts inside, Hoseok stretches toward the far side, and Yoongi sends the ball forward again.
When Taehyung receives it, he gestures sharply for Jungkook to hold his run.
Jungkook does the opposite.
Instead of staying high, he drops deep to collect the ball himself and bursts through the center before the defensive shape can reset. The stadium rises with him as he beats one defender and slips past another, but the third closes the angle at exactly the right moment and strips the ball away.
The counterattack begins at once.
Minho spins and sprints after the break while Soobin retreats toward the box and Chan throws himself into the passing lane. The shot comes quickly enough that Han barely has time to react before launching himself across the goal. The ball crashes against the crossbar and ricochets away.
A collective gasp sweeps through the stadium.
Han pushes himself onto his knees.
“Can we not do that again?”
Taehyung is already heading toward Jungkook.
“What the hell was that?”
Jungkook barely slows.
“I saw the opening.”
“There was no opening.”
“I could have made one.”
“You lost the ball.”
“And you would have lost the chance.”
Their voices cut through the noise around them as the rest of the team scrambles back into position. Yoongi watches the exchange for a brief moment before drawing a slow breath and calling for the ball again.
The game continues, but the rhythm never fully returns.
Taehyung tries to reestablish control through midfield, directing the formation and demanding passes in the right areas, while Jungkook keeps drifting away from the structure in pursuit of opportunities that exist for only a heartbeat before the defense closes around them.
Ten minutes later, they collide again.
Taehyung calls for a controlled buildup down the left flank, but Jungkook intercepts the pass before it reaches its target.
This time, Taehyung stops running altogether.
“Pass it!”
Jungkook takes the shot anyway, but the ball sails wide.
The groan that rolls through the stadium is loud enough to feel.
By the second half, the cracks are impossible to ignore. The opposition senses the disorder and presses harder, exploiting every gap that opens between the lines. The Titans' midfield begins to unravel under the pressure as one careless turnover leads to another and then another.
Han keeps them alive with two extraordinary saves.
The third chance gets past even him.
The opposing striker slips between Chan and Minho and collects a perfectly weighted through ball that splits the defense apart. Han charges forward to narrow the angle, but the shot slides beyond his reach and settles into the corner of the net.
The stadium falls quiet.
The scoreboard changes.
0-1.
The Titans spend the remainder of the match chasing an equalizer, but the frustration between their captain and striker seeps into every attack. Taehyung bypasses Jungkook during one crucial move, and Jungkook ignores the formation again only minutes later. The disagreements that once stayed behind closed doors now surface in the middle of the match through frustrated gestures, sharp exchanges, and angry looks that linger a little too long.
Subtle or not, the tension is visible. The crowd sees it, the cameras see it, the opposition sees it.
When the final whistle blows, the scoreboard remains unchanged.
Seoul Titans: 0
Opposition: 1
Their first home defeat.
For a few seconds, the stadium stands frozen in stunned silence before disappointed murmurs begin spreading through the crowd like a slow-moving wave.
The Titans walk off the field slowly, carrying the weight of the loss with them as they make their way toward the locker room. The usual post-match chatter never comes. Cleats strike the concrete corridor, equipment bags rustle against shoulders, and the silence stretches all the way to the dressing room door.
The tension breaks the second Namjoon storms in behind them.
His patience has finally run out.
“What was that?”
No one answers.
Namjoon points toward the door they just entered through.
“That was not football.”
His voice cuts through the room.
“That was chaos.”
Seokjin stands beside him with his arms folded, his expression so calm it somehow feels more dangerous than shouting.
“Congratulations,” he says quietly. “You just handed them the match.”
The players settle onto benches without a word. Han stares at the floor. Minho rubs at the back of his neck. Jimin leans against his locker with his eyes closed. Across the room, Yoongi sits rigid and silent, but there is nothing calm about him tonight. His gaze moves from Taehyung to Jungkook and back again before he finally speaks.
“Are you two done yet?”
The question lands heavily.
Yoongi rarely raises his voice, which only makes the edge in it more striking.
“That wasn’t a game,” he continues. “That was a competition between the two of you.”
Taehyung remains still. Jungkook says nothing.
Yoongi's jaw tightens.
“If you want to fight each other, do it somewhere else.”
The room grows quiet again, though it feels different now. Everyone is exhausted. Nobody has changed out of their kit yet. Damp jerseys cling to skin, mud stains mark socks and shorts, and the disappointment from the loss hangs over the room like a storm cloud that refuses to move on.
Yoongi's words linger long after he finishes speaking.
That wasn't a game.
The locker room doesn't recover from them. The atmosphere only tightens further until Taehyung finally drags a hand through his hair and releases a short, humorless breath.
“Right,” he says, lifting his head. “Because clearly we all just decided to forget how to play.”
Jungkook scoffs.
“Oh right. Because everything would have gone perfectly if we just followed the captain's grand master plan.”
Taehyung's head turns sharply toward him.
“You think that's funny?”
“I think blaming everything on me is convenient.”
“Blaming?” Taehyung pushes himself to his feet. “You intercepted three plays that weren't yours to intercept.”
Jungkook straightens as well, his shoulders squaring.
“They weren't going anywhere.”
“They were building the attack.”
“They were slow.”
“They were controlled.”
“They were predictable.”
A short laugh escapes Taehyung.
“Predictable wins games.”
“Not tonight.”
The shift in the room is palpable. Players who had been staring at the floor now glance up. A few sit straighter. The argument has crossed into familiar territory, but tonight it feels sharper, closer to breaking point.
Minho mutters under his breath.
“Oh, this is bad.”
Taehyung takes another step forward, leaving barely any space between them.
“You want to talk about tonight?” he asks, his voice low enough to be more unsettling than a shout. “You gave away possession four times.”
“And you refused to pass to me twice.”
“Because you were out of position.”
“Because you don't trust me.”
“Because you don't listen.”
Their voices rise together, each response arriving faster than the last.
Jungkook gestures toward the stadium outside.
“You think you're the only one who understands the game?”
“I'm the captain.”
“That's not a crown.”
“That's a responsibility.”
“You treat it like control.”
Taehyung's jaw tightens.
“And you treat football like a playground.”
Jungkook shakes his head and lets out a harsh laugh.
“At least I'm trying to win, not just protect your ego.”
The words hit the room like a punch.
Whatever restraint Taehyung has been holding onto finally slips.
He surges forward.
Namjoon reacts at once.
“Whoa, woah, woah!”
He catches Taehyung by the shoulder at the exact moment Jungkook steps forward as well. Seokjin moves between them with surprising speed, planting himself in the narrow space that remains while one hand presses against Jungkook's chest and Namjoon hauls Taehyung backward.
“Enough,” Namjoon snaps.
For a brief second, it genuinely looks as though the situation might explode anyway.
Taehyung's chest rises and falls with sharp breaths. Jungkook stands rigid, every muscle tense. Across the room, nobody speaks. Nobody looks away.
The tension stretching between them feels ready to snap.
Seokjin exhales slowly, and as the silence stretches across the locker room, a different look settles over his face.
Namjoon catches it at once.
“Oh no. No, no, no. Jin–”
Seokjin doesn't even look at him.
“Oh yes.”
Before Taehyung or Jungkook can figure out what he's planning, Seokjin turns toward the rest of the team and gestures at the locker room door.
“Everyone out.”
The room freezes.
Seokjin raises an eyebrow.
“Now.”
Nobody argues. The players start moving with remarkable efficiency, filing toward the hallway as though they've all decided at the same time that staying here is a terrible idea. Jimin catches Yoongi's sleeve and tugs him along with the crowd.
“Come on.”
Yoongi allows himself to be pulled toward the exit, though he glances back over his shoulder once.
“They're not actually going to kill each other, right?”
Jimin leans closer as they walk.
“No,” he whispers. “But they might start making out and I'm not emotionally prepared.”
A snort escapes Yoongi before he can stop it.
Ahead of them, Chan pauses in the doorway.
“Someone text me if they start making out, though.”
Hyunjin lowers his voice.
“We can log into the camera feed.”
Yeonjun stops mid-step.
“You can do that?”
Soobin stares at Hyunjin.
“That's impressive.”
“Leave,” Seokjin says flatly.
That finally gets them moving. The last player slips into the hallway, and the locker room empties until only four people remain.
Namjoon and Seokjin turn back toward Taehyung and Jungkook.
The two of them are still glaring at each other.
Seokjin points toward the center of the room.
“You two.”
They still don't budge. With a weary sigh, Namjoon grabs Taehyung by the arm and steers him forward while Seokjin nudges Jungkook from the opposite side until they're standing where he wants them.
“You come out when you stop behaving like hormonal toddlers.”
Before either of them can respond, Namjoon reaches over and switches off the lights.
The room drops into darkness.
Seokjin steps into the hallway, pulls the door shut behind him, and slides the lock into place.
Now only two people remain inside, and both of them look deeply offended by the arrangement.
The moment Namjoon and Seokjin turn around, they discover the hallway is no longer empty.
It has, in fact, become crowded.
Yeonjun appears first, walking a little too quickly for a person who definitely wasn't lingering nearby. Soobin stands beside him wearing the composed expression of a man who has absolutely been standing there the entire time. Minho lowers his phone from chest level. Han pushes himself off the wall. Hoseok abandons a very unconvincing stretch, and Jimin casually straightens from the spot beside Yoongi where he'd apparently been conducting highly professional surveillance.
For roughly two seconds, nobody says a word.
Then Yeonjun tilts his head toward the locker room.
“So?”
Namjoon stares at the group gathered in front of him.
“When did you all get here?”
Minho answers without hesitation.
“We never left.”
A sigh slips out of Seokjin.
“I should have known.”
Behind them, the locker room door remains firmly shut.
Jimin whispers to Yoongi.
“How long do you think they'll last?”
Yoongi glances at the door.
“Two hours.”
Jimin blinks.
“Two hours?”
“Before emotional breakthroughs.”
Jimin laughs under his breath.
“Why are you so good at predicting people?”
Yoongi turns his head and looks at him.
“Because I pay attention.”
Jimin goes unexpectedly quiet.
A few feet away, Chan folds his arms.
“Should we check on them?”
Han shakes his head.
“No.”
Minho raises a finger.
“I give them ten minutes before someone throws a bench.”
Hoseok grins.
“I would pay money to see that.”
Hyunjin's mouth curves slightly.
“We still have the option of accessing the locker room feed.”
Yeonjun turns toward him with alarming interest.
“Hyunjin.”
He pauses.
“Do it.”
Soobin releases a slow breath.
“That should not be as easy as you make it sound.”
“Don't you dare,” Seokjin says calmly.
The collective disappointment is almost impressive.
While the team mourns the loss of their illegal entertainment options, Namjoon starts walking down the hallway with Seokjin beside him.
“I'm not sure that was the best idea.”
Seokjin folds his arms loosely as they walk, looking remarkably pleased with himself.
“They'll survive.”
Namjoon shoots him a sideways glance.
“And if they fight?”
Seokjin considers the question for a moment before shrugging.
“Then they'll finally get it out of their system.”
Despite himself, Namjoon lets out a breath that comes dangerously close to a laugh.
“You're disturbingly calm about this.”
Seokjin tilts his head.
“They've been circling each other for weeks. Eventually the storm was going to break.”
Namjoon drags a hand across the back of his neck as they continue down the corridor.
“I would have preferred a less enclosed environment.”
A faint smile appears on Seokjin's face.
“Oh, relax, Joonie. If they were going to kill each other,” he says as he glances back over his shoulder, “they would have done it already.”
Namjoon slows for a step and looks back toward the locker room.
The hallway remains quiet.
No shouting or crashing of furniture yet. No signs of disaster either.
For the moment.
Shaking his head, he turns back around and continues walking.
For better or worse, the problem now belongs to the two people locked inside.
