Work Text:

Charlie Kirk died to a gun shot while giving a speech in Utah. Julius Caesar died by being stabbed before/during giving a speech. They have such similar stories, and share just one other thing: there love for each other.
Julius Caesar woke up and looked around. The room he was in was all white and somewhat resembled the marble he had integrated into his houses’ design.
‘eheu!’ (oh no) Julius Caesar was confused, and he wanted answers.
‘deus?’ (god?) Julius was baffled at where he was, until he remembered how he had just died. He was shocked, confused and mortified. He wanted to return back to Rome, but he knew that wouldn’t happen, and so sat on the bed. He had remembered the soft features of the haruspices, the man who warned him to not do the public appearance several times. The way his brown hair nearing grey, was so beautiful and soft, how his eyes were gentle and brown, yet in some lights, when the sky was as blue as the waters of the aquae Sulis, his eyes appeared green. His smile was of the same warmth as the natural spring, and how he wishes he knew his name. What he would have done just to talk to him once more. Was that why he did the appearance anyway? To make him interact with him more? His recklessness cost him his life, and for that he will be forever guilty.

‘Lacrimo’ (I cry) Julius wept, just as he had said to, and then a God had appeared before him.
‘Salve’ (hello) The God spoke to Julius. The God then explained to Julius that he shall teach him the modern language adapted from Latin: English, and shall bring him to the year 2025 AD. However, if he chose to do this, until he felt true love, whether it be joyful or not, he would forget of this life before, his life of Ancient Rome, and his haruspices. If he were to expire prior to a kiss to the person whom helped to regain his past life, he shall not be re birthed into life, or an after life, he will just be dead, forever. Julius was shocked, and still very confused, but nodded.
The God snapped his finger, and Julius was brought to modern day, memories of his past disappearing, and new memories flooded his brain.

Julius pulled out his phone, as if another day; for his memories- it was. He saw a headline talking about this person ‘Charlie Kirk’. Who is this man Julius would often think. He had never seen a man like him, though his hair was brown and his eye were too. He looked through some photos, and found his eyes sometimes appeared green. His arguments were… questionable but his debating style was inimitable and attractive. He was drawn in. He watched some videos online and sent him a message, asking him as to how he got his unique style of debating, yet Julius realised that he probably wouldn’t answer.

Julius got home from the office and was scrolling, when a notification popped up. It was Charlie Kirk, replying to his message. He said that he had practised often when he was younger, and that he let the words he wanted to say flow, but coherently. Julius praised Charlie, saying how no matter what he was arguing, as to whether Julius agreed or not, his debating style was eye-catching and impressive, especially with the lack of thinking time for certain speeches. That’s when Charlie suggested they meet. Why would he want to meet him, was what Julius had thought, but then again, he couldn’t pass on meeting the man.

A couple days later, Julius knocked on the door of Charlie’s house. Charlie opened the door.
‘Julius right?’
His smile was as charming as his unique debating style. Julius was stuck for a moment, struck by his beauty.
‘A-ah yeah, that’s me’ Julius nodded his head nervously.
‘Don’t be nervous’ Charlie pushed the door wider ‘please, come in’
Julius walked beside Charlie, and they both sat on the sofa.
‘Charlie, please tell me, how can you think of so much to say, and say it coherently, and still keep your style so unique?’

~some time later~

Julius and Charlie had been taking for a couple of hours now, they both had drinks in hand and Julius felt braver now.
‘Charlie’
Charlie looks up from his drink, waiting for him to finish.
‘How come, you allowed me to come over- assuming I am one of the only people, why did you let me, why am i different- you barely know me?’

Silence filled the room. Charlie looked up from his drink and leaned back.

‘Well, you see, you felt… familiar’
‘Familiar?’ Julius was confused.
Though he felt the same way, he was wanted to know for why they both felt similarity in each other, though they had never met prior.

‘I don’t know’ Charlie confessed ‘but, i just… feel comfortable around you, my debating style and your conversational style are just… complementary’

They looked at each other for a moment, Julius felt a thump in his chest, and was confused, for he had felt this before- but where…- the door opened, and Charlie’s children and wife came though the door. The children ran to their father, Charlie.
‘Dad!’
Julius stood up and reached his hand out to Charlie.
‘Nice to meet you, I hope the speech in Utah goes well tomorrow’
Charlie smiled, his cheeks flushed slightly, and shook his hand. Julius also smiled, partially as a good bye, but also because of his emotions. His hand felt warm in his, and as they pulled apart and he walked through the door, he had this dreaded feeling that he would regret walking away, even if he would see him tomorrow, at the speech.

Julius had taken the bus home, and had lay on his bed, head back against his pillow. When he closed his eyes, he saw Charlie, and his heart palpitated. Why… why does he feel like that… and at that he closed his eyes. He dreamt of a life he never had, no, his past life, and he awoke in sweat and panic, sitting up. Charlie was the man he had loved greatly, the man who had ignited the memories he was forced to forget as a price to pay, to be brought to modern day. He needed to see him, needed to touch him once again, kiss him, so he could live a life after this. He looked at the clock and had realised he was late, he had to be quick for at the rate he was going at, he would miss the beginning of the speech.

Charlie’s perspective:

The man he had met last night had put a hold on him, he wanted him- bad. The question was, did he want him. He had never felt this way with his wife, and when she tried to kiss him this morning, he brushed her off, saying he was nervous for today, and that was all. He was nervous for today, and it was not just because of the speech, but that man, Julius. He was his soulmate, and he knew that. When he is presenting that speech today he will look through the crowd, hoping to see him. He is in the car, driving towards the place in which he will be delivering the speech.

Julius’ perspective:

He drove as fast as he could, and had to turn on the radio to hear the beginning of the speech, for he was late. He recognised the poetic words of Charlie’s argument and sighed as the traffic didn’t budge. Julius parked his car on the side of the road and ran to the University.

Charlie’s Perspective:

He looked into the crowd, and yet that man was not to be seen. He felt disappointment and rage, how could he be so foolish as to fall for a man like him, even when he is married, and so he answered the questions a little harsher, in his anger.

Julius’ Perspective:

He ran. He ran as fast as he could to the venue, just to see the man he loves. He heard a bang, the mic must have malfunctioned, and finally, he peered over the balcony in turn, a cacophony
of screams begun. He looked inward, and his eyes lay on the man he had loved, blood soaked and being carried away swiftly. Julius ran towards him, as the people carried him away, and got into a car with another person, trailing him to the hospital. His heart raced in worry and fear, and when he got to the hospital, there was nothing left. Charlie had died.

Charlie’s wife had recognised him, and allowed him to be with him privately. Julius felt nothing, as he sat on the plastic chairs next to the bed the once living Charlie lay on, now his deathbed. Julius could not cry, for now he was up close, he could see why he was so familiar, the brown greying hair, the brown eyes, yet green in some lights and perspectives, it was the haruspices, his haruspices. Julius couldn’t comprehend such, for he sobbed like he had done after his own death.
‘Sit tibi terra levis’ (may the earth rest lightly on you) and Julius cried, as he touched his now cold skin, Charlie died, thinking he hadn’t appeared, hadn’t cared, and for that reason, Julius shall not kiss him, for he doesn’t deserve to live on, for he lost his original life for ignoring the man he cared for, and now, he has lost the man he cared for, and he didn’t even know he cared. Julius arose from the chair and walked away from the hospital to the bridge, where he whispered his own prayers before his life ended forever.

Charlie awoke, to a white room, and was confused. A God came in.
‘The man you loved, Julius, is now dead. He had cared greatly for you, so now you must choose, to die forever, or to live, by the same conditions of him.’
Charlie could not cry, for he had already lost everything.
‘I shall perish, permanently’
And so the God snapped his fingers once again, and both Charlie and Julius were dead, forever.
