A Gift for You

Summary:

Lumine reluctantly agrees to follow Dottore to his research facility, unprepared for what would be unearthed inside its dark depths- or for the parting gift the kind doctor would eventually leave to her.

For Dottolumi Week Day 7: Free Day

Notes:

I'm a little late but this is for Dottolumi Week Day 7: Free Day. I chose ‘Gift’ as a prompt.

Takes place during Nodkrai's AQ.

Work Text:

Against her better judgement, she’d followed a madman straight into his lair.

Dottore calmly wandered through the destroyed laboratory, heels clacking on cracked stone floors. Lumine followed at a more guarded pace, twitching slightly at every noise- frayed wires spitting electricity, water dripping, broken shards of glass cracking under her boots- but keeping her gaze firmly glued to his back.

Sandrone and Arlecchino sure had done a number on the place.

After walking a decent way through the varying tunnels inside his lab, Dottore finally led them out into an open space.

Lumine hugged her arms to her body, looking up at the high ceiling. A huge glass window awaited them, reminding her a little of an aquarium or zoo attraction. With a press of a few buttons at a console, lights flickered to life inside the enclosure.

Dottore stood back and gestured with an elegant flair. “I'd like to further illustrate my capabilities by showing you some side projects. I think you’ll find they could be quite useful to you in the future.”

Lumine stepped closer with trepidation. He'd droned on enough already and demonstrated enough Godlike powers. The glass made her nervous though. He could flounce around and teleport onto the ceiling all he wanted- but an enclosure hinted at some poor soul waiting for them inside.

Sure enough, a man crouched inside, alongside a…goose?

The man was acting strange, making odd noises in the back of his throat and bending his legs. Occasionally he'd flap his arms.

The snow-winged goose meanwhile, made a beeline for their window the second it noticed them. Lumine gasped and lurched back when its body collided with the glass. It squawked and screeched, kicking at the barrier separating them. Unlike a regular goose, it seemed to have trouble keeping its centre of gravity, toppling over and spreading its wings out haphazardly.

“What's…what's wrong with them?”

Dottore smiled, “care to take a guess?”

Lumine looked between the two, unease and discomfort clawing its way into her heart the longer she watched them.

It clicked when the goose kept trying to pick itself up with its wings, hissing with distress.

“You…switched them, didn't you? Made them switch bodies.”

“Transferred their consciousness,” Dottore lightly clarified, stepping up so that he lingered uncomfortably close to her, arms nearly touching. Lumine felt her skin start to scream, hating his proximity. “Yes. I managed to perfect it here after conducting this experiment on a wider scale just a few miles away. Elsewhere, the human subject's consciousness dimmed, reverting to an animal-level intelligence not long after switching bodies. Here, the young man has kept his humanity, even while trapped in a body like that.”

Lumine turned to him, swallowing bile. She resisted the urge to behead him right then and there, a cold sweat prickling her skin. “Change them back,” her voice came, quiet as a blade sliding across flesh. “Revert this, right now.”

He chuckled, straightening and clasping his arms behind his back. “What a demanding young lady you are. Do you even realise how difficult that is to do? What I've achieved here?”

“Congratulations, you've invented a newfound way to torture people,” she gritted out, trying to keep her temper in check.

Dottore's good humour abated slightly. “A test subject's discomfort is a side effect of the experiment, never an end goal. I might be callous, but I take no sadistic pleasure in this.”

“The ends justify the means, huh?” Lumine sneered.

He chuckled, the sound rich and silky, gliding down her spine like a caress. She hated the way it made her feel, making her body sigh, thighs pressing together subconsciously. “I knew you'd understand. Ah, but…I can see I've distressed you. In my younger years, I probably wouldn't have noticed the fear you're exhibiting right now. Tell me; you're frightened for that man, aren’t you? But you have no such fear for yourself.”

She nodded slowly, flinching outright when the back of his hand lifted- gloved knuckles gently running down her pale cheek.

“Such consideration for others…heh, this is why you're the perfect hero, my dear Descender. You'll make for the perfect lead in my new world.”

Lumine released a breath she didn't know she'd been holding when he backed off. With the press of a few buttons, Dottore invited her to look again at the man and goose.

Feeling the unusual, tingly thrum of familiar energy, she grimly watched two machines rise out of the ground. They resembled black mechanical poles, pulsing with blue and red light. The hum gathered- until a spike hit the air, passing unseen to the naked eye.

Goosebumps rose on her skin as the pair collapsed. After several seconds that felt like hours, the man's leg twitched.

“You used Kuuvahki, didn't you?” she asked softly, unwilling to disturb the hush in the room.

“Very good,” he praised. “I knew you'd recognise it.”

Rousing slowly, the man pushed himself up slightly, looking at his shaking hands. The goose righted itself, flicking its tail feathers and squawking.

It didn’t take long for the man to collapse into sobs, burying his face in his hands.

Her heart clenched. Shaking fingers curled into tight fists. “What's the point of such an awful thing?” she managed to ask.

“You're letting empathy interfere with clarity. There is merit to this experiment, open your mind to the possibilities.”

Lumine tried her best not to listen, but her mind betrayed her. I guess…it could be useful for surprise attacks; gathering intel on enemies.

When no words came in reply, Dottore tilted his head. He sighed, pressing a button on the console to project a static image onto the glass. “Recognise this creature?”

Lumine reluctantly lifted her chin, rendered mute with rage, or disgust, she couldn’t tell. The image of a white and black striped lizard could be seen.

“One of these lizards observed you for the majority of your conversations with your friends recently. None of you noticed it,” Dottore smiled. “None of you even perceived me. I was part of the scenery, even in the Curatorium of Secrets.”

Lumine closed her eyes tiredly. If she'd known, she'd have stomped that lizard to death.

Turning to face him with a calm she didn't feel, Lumine summoned her sword. With a thrust- metal shrieked- her blade burying into the console. Sparks flew, the image of the lizard disappearing- even the light fizzled out inside the enclosure.

Dottore had smoothly side stepped her swing, arms still clasped behind his back. He watched her expressionlessly.

“Descender, why are you turning to violence, now of all times?” he asked, genuinely puzzled. “You went through the trouble of following me all the way here. Wouldn’t you like to witness what else I have to share?”

“I’ve had enough. I can’t stomach any more of this. Your vile disregard for life is…” she swallowed, trying to will herself to stop shaking. “It's inhumane. There’s no way I could ever work with someone capable of causing so much pain. It’s wicked.”

“We’ve already discussed our differing natures,” Dottore replied, infuriatingly patient as always, as if she were the one being unreasonable. “I still do not believe such trivial matters should impede our-”

“Stop glossing over it!” she snarled, gesturing to the large glass window separating them from his ‘test subjects’ inside. “The fundamental differences between what we value…can you ever honestly imagine a world where we’d make a good match for partners? I can’t even trust you.”

Dottore stopped. He cocked his head slightly to one side, as if considering something gravely.

“Trust…hm,” his gloved thumb brushed his lower lip.

There was something that had been bothering Lumine for most of their conversation. Whenever she responded to him, no matter what she said or how she dismissed him- Dottore seemed pleased. It was as if a response, any at all, satisfied him in some way.

His body shifted, and Dottore was suddenly approaching at a sedate pace. Lumine instantly stiffened, bracing herself.

“You say I'm vile and wicked and yet I've been monitoring your bodies’ responses to me all this time,” he drawled, hands clasped behind his back. Lumine watched him subtly change direction to pace around her in a wide circle, and she shifted accordingly to hold her stance. She refused to let him catch her off guard. “Elevated heartrate, endorphins, adrenaline pumping so very fiercely through your system. I've noticed a spike in dopamine too…it happens whenever I speak for long periods.”

Suddenly, he was in her blind spot. Hot breath fanned; a whisper of teeth brushing exposed skin.

“Does my voice please you, Descender?”

With a swing- Lumine turned madly, fist gliding fruitlessly through the air without the satisfaction of impact. She pawed at her left ear roughly, hair raised at the back of her neck.

She found him standing a respectable distance away, inspecting a broken machine as if the caprice of his mood had changed and he hadn't just been making suggestive remarks.

“You're mistaking disgust for pleasure, Dottore,” she spat, heart thundering. “I didn't know you were delusional as well as insane.”

This was strange. It was like the doctor had uncharacteristically switched gears. The majority of their time together had been spent with him showing off god-like powers and muttering about the benefits of joining him. He’d been imposing, mildly suggestive and coaxing, but he’d only broken the respectable distance between them to try and ‘remove’ someone- likely Nefer- from eavesdropping inside her mind.

“Now that- I really must protest. Insanity by definition is linked with foolishness. Makes me sound like a crazed man who can’t differentiate right from wrong. I can certainly do that. My sense of conviction merely doesn't align with yours. Please don’t mistake me for a raving zealot. It cheapens us both to pretend as such. If I were truly insane, we wouldn’t be having this pleasant conversation. You listen to me, even if it pains you, because you see the logic in my proposals.”

He raised his index finger, continuing on like a professor giving a lecture. “And as for your attraction; The data doesn't lie. There's no need to be ashamed. By your own words; everyone else deems me insane. No one would believe me if I revealed your sexual interest. We can speak frankly.”

Lumine felt her face flood with warmth. He spoke a little too freely for her liking. From the way his lips twitched, she could sense he was holding back a smirk.

Her eyes flashed. This bastard.

“Okay, hope this is open and honest enough for you,” she gritted out, straightening her spine. “I'd never let you touch me.”

It was as much of an admission of guilt as she’d allow. It didn’t matter if her body betrayed her by physically reacting to him- nothing would ever come of it.

Dottore chuckled like he was having fun. “If the idea distresses you so much, then as a compromise, we could always restrain my hands,” he raised them to illustrate his point, before softly grazing his fingers down the leather clasped around his neck. “I take it you’re worldly enough to understand what this is?” he purred, drawing attention to the harness that disappeared under the depths of his clothes.

It was easy bait to fall for, but Lumine snarled, taking it viciously. “Its not just your hands! Everything you've ever done is baked into the fabric of your body, segment or not. I found that ‘hospital’ in the desert, I've seen what you've done.”

Dottore gained a look on his face like he was metaphorically raising his eyebrows behind his mask. A part of Lumine hated that she’d studied his expressions so carefully that she’d become familiar with them enough to tell such a thing.

“Let's not pretend to be moral arbiters when we're alone together, Descender. I've seen some very interesting acts committed by your dainty hands too. The Tanit Tribe comes to mind- yes I know about that. My point is, judgement and ridicule aren't something we need. I'd prefer to foster amicable feelings between us.”

“And I'd prefer we stop talking. You don’t want me to call you crazy but if I’m remembering right, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result!” Lumine snapped, shifting to maintain a safe distance from him.

Dottore stilled. Unable to see his eyes, Lumine suddenly became aware of just how…eerie the doctor’s unwavering attention was. That blank soulless mask gazed at her with a sense of clinical apathy, and she felt her fingers twitch, itching for her sword.

Not yet…

The tension was broken by a sharp laugh, which bled into a silky handful of indulgent chuckles. Dottore even covered his mouth slightly, and she imagined his eyes shining with mirth.

“You don’t understand a researcher's mindset enough to quote such a thing to me, my dear. ‘The same thing over and over’ is that what you think we’re doing? In the space of mere minutes we’ve covered new ground, such as discussing your attraction, and now I’ve heard you make a rather sweet attempt at using a quote against me. No, I’m afraid you know nothing of the truly arduous tasks involved in field research. This is a breath of fresh air to me.”

The sound of his boots clicking crisply over the cracked marble floors filled up the room. Dottore stopped an arms length away, but leaned down- nostrils flaring, taking in the scent of inteyvats nestled in her hair.

You are a breath of fresh air,” he breathed. “So very unique. Terribly…emotional in some ways, but strong. I can feel your strength from here.”

His lips looked soft. Lumine bristled at the thought. She tilted her chin up and held his ‘gaze’ as best she could, staring into the black void of his mask. “Move just an inch closer and you’ll feel it for real. On your neck.”

He smiled a little, tilting his head in a crow-like manner. His breathing picked up slightly, making her wonder if such venom filled words intrigued him. “Just think of everything we could achieve together. Our strengths and talents combined could take us beyond this miserable world. Don’t you want to continue travelling after you get your brother back?”

She scoffed. “Once I have my wings returned to me, I won't need your help to do that.”

“Wings?” his voice was at once pitched low and silky with intrigue. Steel wrapped in velvet.

Shit. She shouldn't have mentioned that.

Dottore fell silent, intently watchful again, the gears turning in his mind. Lumine noticed his hands tremble slightly- and he leaned in, just a touch closer- and for one insane moment she thought he might kiss her. He then straightened and smiled politely, returning his arms to their usual position where they clasped behind his back.

“I see. I think I've gathered sufficient data for now. Why don't we move on into another room? I have more projects to show you that could aid in swaying your position.”

Lumine had heard enough. Pivoting on her heel, she twisted and grabbed the handle of her sword.

A swift jerk, she freed the blade from where it was embedded in the console. Lumine then faced him head on, not hesitating to push off the ground.

Dottore lifted one hand- a shield deflecting the impact of her swing at the last moment. Unfettered, Lumine rounded on him again and again, slashing madly and aiming each strike at his neck with the intent to sever his head clean from his shoulders.

The doctor teleported between the furious swings of her sword, as if mocking her aim by lingering so close yet avoiding each hit. He then raised his hand slightly, the tri-lunar crescent moon monstrosity becoming visible again at his back.

Lumine’s breath hitched as gravity disappeared. Her feet left the ground, and she was left floating mid-air. Dottore kept his stance on terra firma, watching her with a calm sense of smugness.

Snarling and kicking her legs to try and gain some momentum, Lumine activated pyro and swung her blade in the air, aiming a slash toward him.

Clicking his tongue, Dottore shifted his torso to the side, evading the flames.

An alarm suddenly blared inside the lab, drowning out her hearing. Bright red lights flashed from the ceiling. Dottore turned from her reluctantly, clicking his tongue. He lifted one hand to summon a projection of his barrier cutting off the outside world.

Lumine turned cold at the sight of Wanderer breaking through the space. He launched himself through the air, using Anemo to guide him forwards.

It was like a bucket of ice cold water straight from Dragonspine had been dumped over her head. She needed to help. She couldn’t just sit there and let this guy mess with her head.

As if predicting her reaction, Dottore jumped back to evade her geo constructs as they burst from the ground. He chuckled, dismissing the projection and spreading his arms wide. “Ignore our uninvited guest, my dear. I can remove him before he reaches us. As I’ve said ad nauseam, you’re welcome to join me.”

“Back off!” Lumine snarled as gravity returned to her, breathing heavily as her feet met the ground. She staggered against the wall.

Summoning her sword, she dove forward, lashing it blindly. Dottore sidestepped her wild swings, evading her with a faint air of disappointment.

It didn’t take long before she was breaking down the walls to his laboratory, kicking a sizable hole through one and making a break for it. Lasers scorched the ground beside her feet, and Lumine was forced to dive and roll, scratching her chin on a rock before forcing herself up and pumping her legs once more.

Wanderer was a faint blue and white spec in the sky one moment- noticing her and diving down the next. Lumine only had to reach out her hand for a tenth of a second before his body slammed into hers, knocking the air from her lungs.

Slim arms locked around her waist, and a muffled “idiot” in her hair immediately made a confusing cocktail of shame and safety curdle in her stomach. Lumine held onto him tight, feeling them careen and loop in the air.

More blue lasers shot inches away from their skin- one scorching into Wanderer’s back. Lumine cried out in alarm, but he only grunted, gritting his teeth and urging them to keep flying.

Golden eyes managed to peek over his shoulder, catching sight of Dottore’s shrinking figure just once as they flew further and further away.

He stood poised and silent, watching them- watching her leave with an unreadable expression. At the last moment, he dropped his arm, letting the lasers fall away- in favour of ghosting his fingers over his mouth contemplatively.

Lumine stiffened, ducking her head down into Wanderer’s shoulder and gritting her teeth. She made a silent vow then; never again. Never would she get swept up in Dottore’s rhythm again.

It was a few weeks later that Lumine tiredly teleported into her Serenitea Pot. She asked Tubby to please ‘change realms’, allowing her to step out of Emerald Peak’s tall mountainous terrain where the majority of her guests had access to- and into her private, quiet sanctuary of a Fontaine inspired domain.

No one else was permitted into that space, not even Paimon. Lumine didn’t visit it often, but when she did, it was because she’d finally hit her limit and just needed the dark silence of the Swirling Isles to curl up in and sleep. Nod Krai had done a serious number on her in more ways than one, and it was high time she collapsed and did nothing for a few days.

And collapse she did; Lumine was on her bed in a matter of moments, her head hitting the pillow while she remained fully dressed- barely able to kick off her boots before succumbing to the sweet release of sleep.

This dream wasn’t like her usual dreams however, they didn’t feature Aether, or some amalgamation of worlds long since gone and buried- a certain voice kept bothering her unconscious mind. It gently poked and prodded, before sinking into her like warm honey.

“Now then,” that velvety tone said conversationally. “I think some underhanded methods are necessary in unearthing buried desires in this case. You’re far too stubborn to arrive at the correct conclusion with so much pride muddying your sense of reason.”

They were back in the ruins of his laboratory again.

Lumine’s world abruptly flipped- ceiling becoming the floor. A sense of weight abruptly returned to her limbs. Her body followed the laws of gravity, and a gasp ripped itself from her lungs the second her back made impact with his laboratory’s ceiling.

Winded, she coughed, rolling onto her side and feeling for her sword (how could she have let it go in the fall?)

A black boot kicked it aside before she could grasp the handle- his knee suddenly a hard, punishing weight trapping her arm to the ground.

Dottore bent over her in his tri-lunar god form, holding her free arm down with one large hand and practically straddling her torso with his thighs.

With the flick of his free-hand, the tri-lunar crescent moon flickered slightly. Syringes appeared beside him, floating mid air. All of them were filled with various coloured fluids, and Dottore seemed to consider each one for a moment, before plucking a syringe from the air and adjusting its needle.

Lumine panicked, kicking her legs beneath him and grabbing madly at his chest, shoving and clawing him away. “Don’t you dare!” she yelled. “You’re not injecting me with anything! Get off! Stop!”

Dottore chuckled, doubling the force of gravity- her arm becoming heavier than stone. It sank beside her head, body wilting against the onslaught of power.

“Shhh,” he cooed, brushing some errant strands of hair away from her face. “Hold still. Terror doubles the pain. Relax.”

His bedside manner could use some work. Lumine stopped struggling the second he bent in close to her upper arm. She turned her head and refused to look, clenching her teeth at the nip of the needle piercing her flesh.

By the time she glanced at him again, Dottore eased back, the syringe empty.

Lumine gazed up at him, feeling a creeping sense of hazy heat clawing steadily through her system. “I’m going…to kill you,” she said softly, a strange sense of calm overcoming her.

Dottore stood, cocking his head to one side. “Is that so?” he hummed. “I’d like to see you try.”

Something was happening. Something she didn’t like one bit. He could mess with the scenery, gravity, even the world- but when it came to her, Lumine hated the unknown effects unlocking sweet, delicious heat inside her body. Her core fluttered.

“What…did you do to me?” she managed out. “What was in that thing?”

“A crass method of unlocking your true desires. An aphrodisiac, you could call it.”

“Bastard. If you think some cheap drug will make me change my mind about you, then you’re on another level of delusional I didn’t think possib- oh. Ah!”

Lumine doubled over, panting wildly. Shit. Her inner walls were suddenly soaked. She could feel her panties become slick, thighs heating. Even her nipples hardened under her dress, sweat beading on her forehead. Waves of pleasure and emptiness rolled through her, ebbing and pulsing. The need to be filled screamed, a pit of desire she’d long since neglected yawing open like a gaping abyss.

Feverish golden eyes flicked up to him beseechingly. “...M- ah- make it…stop,” she gasped, wetting her lips and panting like an animal.

Dottore had started circling her prone body as it lay on the ceiling. His smile widened the second she reached out instinctively, catching his ankle in her grasp and weakly holding onto him. “Please,” a beg pushed itself past her mouth like mud. A wave of loathing rolled through her body.

“Please what?” he asked, tone dropping into a quiet whisper of silk on skin. He shifted to crouch down, leaning in close to her face. “I’m a benevolent God, my dear. I will listen to your pleas and grant your desires. I am prepared to be merciful.”

Lumine quivered. ‘Touch me, touch me, touch me-’

Her lips parted, mouth moving to try and form the words. Dottore leaned in closer to hear them; “Jump…in acid,” she grit out.

His hand immediately met her neck, tightening.

Lumine choked as she was lifted- slammed back into a wall. Barely able to stand on her tiptoes, she gripped at his wrist desperately.

“You are impossible,” a cold, measured voice bit out near her ear. “Must you be so childish that you deny yourself even to the point of pain?”

Getting lightheaded, Lumine expected wrath- only to stiffen and blink as Dottore shifted, pressing his lips to hers as easily as breathing.

The pressure of his body against hers gave her something to grab onto, her legs slinging around his waist and holding on for dear life.

Dottore pulled away slightly, smiling a little and releasing her neck to wipe away some stray tears- though she couldn’t remember shedding them. “I suppose I’d hate to disappoint you. I will dutifully play your villain- it's the only role you’re content for me to have, isn’t it? You foolish girl. I’ll give you what you want, and all the while you can scream and deny everything, the picture of innocence.”

Lumine cried out when his tongue slid inside her mouth, his palms hooking down to support her under her thighs.

Pleasure rocketed through her at the first silky brush of his tongue. Lumine gasped against him, letting out a muffled moan as he gripped her thighs hard, pushing them outward to rock the outline of his hard length against her soaked panties.

Lumine twitched and cried out, biting at his lips so that he’d back off with a grunt. “Y-you pervert, she panted. “I’ve been injected. What’s your excuse?”

“Unlike you, I don’t need one,” he moved back in, branding her neck with hot, open mouthed kisses. “I’ve wanted you for some time,” came his quieter admission, digging his nails into the meat of her thighs. “Oh yes. A very long time.”

When he kissed her again, the heat urged her on to return it. Moaning and shuddering with every touch and caress, she slid her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss of her own accord.

Biting down hard on his lip, Lumine greedily swiped out her tongue, prying it against the wound to soak up any beads of blood. Only to find none.

Golden eyes blinked open, noticing strange branching patterns splitting from his lip that pulsed with white light. Particles emitted; escaping from where his wound should be.

As a segment, he couldn't bleed. Lumine exhaled in a rush, shivering as his mouth locked onto her chest, kissing and biting. “You seem disappointed by something,” he mumbled.

“What's the point in being rough with you if I can't even reap the benefits?” she panted, choking on a gasp when teeth closed over her breast and sank down harshly. She moaned, arching into him with a full body shudder as he breached her walls and stretched her oh so deliciously-

Lumine jerked awake. Disorientated, she patted around her bed, summoning her sword for good measure and panting heavily.

But there was no one else there.

Dottore was dead. He’d been destroyed in the Nod Krai. There was nothing left of him except old notes and a ghost that refused to stop haunting her.

Rubbing at her mouth, she swallowed bile, skin crawling. Distress dug itself deep into her heart, something ugly whispering, reminding her over and over of the very real slick wetness gathered between her legs like evidence of a crime.

She couldn’t stand to examine it- examine herself. Kicking her legs out from under the covers, Lumine pushed her hair back from her sweaty forehead. A bath. She needed a bath.

Catching sight of her reflection in the mirror as she moved for her door- she winced. Oh well. It wasn’t like anyone was going to see her. She could get away with sloppy Fontaine styled pyjamas and deep dark eyebags.

The first thing she noticed after stumbling into the living room however, was the letter on her floor.

It was such an innocuous thing, white and crisp, laying directly on the floor near the front entrance. And yet, its simplicity screamed it did not belong.

She was pretty sure mailmen couldn’t deliver to Serenitea Pots. Its appearance hinted at the presence of another person. Someone who was not supposed to be there.

Intrigue coupled with faint, stirring alarm settled into her stomach as she reached down, picking up the crisp white envelope. It was blank, but upon opening it up, she found a letter written in stiff script that looked as though someone had taken great pains to neaten their writing.

‘To my dearest Descender,

‘Since you have proven to be so extremely disgusted by the versions of myself that have committed various atrocities, I have taken a few of your criticisms on board and gone to the trouble of creating a brand new segment, made especially for you. He is only a few days old. He has been instructed to help you and attend to your every need. His empathy levels have been adjusted slightly. It is my sincere hope that his lack of sins and good behaviour will open your eyes to the benefits of working with me, so that we can finally enter a collaboration.

P.S- I harbour no ill will toward you despite your behaviour toward Omega in Nod-Krai. If you have already sufficiently ruminated on the subject of our partnership and wish to join hands with me at any time, simply tell the segment.’

There was no sign off but it was obvious who wrote it. Only one person oozed so much ego.

Stiff with tension now, Lumine slowly lowered the letter. Sure enough, the splitting image of Dottore was inexplicably there. She couldn’t tell if he’d been lounging on her sofa the entire time, or if he’d blinked into existence- summoned by the letter. He seemed to have patiently waited for her to finish, and perked up once she did. He gave a little wave.

“Your home is quite nice. The furnishings are fairly standard, but the choice in location is novel,” he praised, addressing the Fontaine Realm layout with a smile. “I'll have to get used to living at the bottom of a lake- or is this simulating an ocean? Marine biology has yet to become a point of interest to me.”

A strangled noise finally choked its way out of Lumine’s throat.

This was really happening. Dottore's segment really was sitting there, admiring her home like he was going to live in it.

Dottore Prime had gifted her this man.

The segment grinned in the face of her pale shock, exposing sharp, shark-like teeth. “Tell me; do you happen to have an operating theatre inside your mansion? It's alright if you don't. With my talents, I can make one easily. No need to trouble yourself on my account. I'd hate to be an ungrateful roommate.”
