Work Text:
Hermione awoke to the loud booming of thunder shaking the tent, groggily stretching and casting a tempus noting it was only four in the morning. Her eyes felt puffy from tears shed the previous day after Ron’s departure. He wasn’t built to weather the storm. It still hurt that he abandoned not only her but Harry.
She knew the gravity of what Harry carried and for her, leaving was never an option.
She remembered the night before, Harry pulling her up to dance and how he tried to cheer her.
Something had shifted.
For a moment she thought he would kiss her, but he did not.
She wasn’t sure she could have let it happen then if he had.
She looked around the tent, sure she would find him sleeping but his bed was empty.
Hermione’s heart lurched.
She leapt from under the sheets and bolted for the tent flap. Immediately drenched by the thunderstorm and immediately relieved to see Harry standing at the edge of the wards soaked to the bone.
Before she could think on it, she ran barefoot towards him.
“Hermione?” Lightning lit his face to show the desperation burning in his juniper gaze.
Clarity washed over her with the downpour at that moment.
She did not hesitate.
She reached up, pulling Harry’s face to hers.
Harry kissed her like he was drowning and she was the only air. It was electric, frantic, and wet.
“You have no idea how long I have wanted to do that.”
