Gordon freeman finds out at a Chrismas family dinner get-together.
His parents got him in an arranged marriage to save the family's debt when they were pirates. Some guy by the name Fin Tidestrider has firmly grasped his lineage in a choke hold. And since Freeman is 'Divorced anyways' it shouldn't seem to matter, right? Wrong.
He HATES his new husband.
It was a quiet wedding. His forced partner in a brown dress, (...brown? ) and Gordon in the exact same suit he wore to his last wedding with his ex-wife. Gillion Tidestrider is the name of the leech infecting his life, and he's stupid and utterly unbearable.
Not that Gordons not used to these kinds of insufferable men unavoidably tagging along with him. In fact, it was legally binding that Gillion were to move in with him. Which needless to say Gordon DOESNT need right now, especially so soon after the resonance cascade.
Worst of all, Gillion didn't come 'home' empty handed, but with a gift! Timmy.
Timothy is some scruffy orphan kid Mr Tidestrider probably found on the street on his way to Freeman's house just so Gordon can take care of not only his sweet little Joshua, but idiot orphan Timmy as well. It was very clear Gillion was not entirely used to children when he entered his domain, but taking pity, Gordon helped him settle with Joshy and Timmy.

Amazingly, there's a point in time where someone grows on you -like how the science team did with Gordon. While rather forcefully, he's staring to get properly acquainted with Mr Gillion Tidestrider too.
A long while after the wedding, Gillion and Gordon were sitting on the couch one late night when they, on their own accord, kissed? Or attempted to. Gillion fell on the floor and hurt his arm. Only... That wasn't the worst in this situation.
When Gillion and Gordon were about to lock lips, both of them got, well, confused. And while Mr Tidestrider launched himself off the couch, the fish man accidentally batted Gordon Freeman in the face with scary force and precision, breaking Freeman's nose in a bloodied mess.
When Gillion got up and saw what he'd done, he absolutely launched to Gordons side like a rocket while Freeman clutched his nose in a messy pain.
Luckily for them, Gillion could perform spells.
Specifically a magic ritual that would heal Gordon right then and there.
Despite Gillion Tidestriders downfalls with Gordon, they laughed it out. it became almost a competition. All while learning more about each other. So at the end of the day, maybe this arranged marriage was better for him than he first had thought.
Finding their shared connection of traveling with some insane group, getting almost killed all of the time. Realistically, Gordon shoulda been fuming, but he couldn't help but laugh with his stupidly charming husband. Forever more- forever after.
