Chapter Text
It was early in the morning, birds twittered their songs as the sun rose above the mountains turning the sky a mixture of pinks and oranges.
Kai yawned as he walked into the kitchen where Zane was already cooking breakfast, he mumbled a good morning and sat down in his seat as slowly the rest of the team got up for the day.
Pixal walked into the room last and walked over to Zane and giving him a kiss on the cheek before turning to all the rest of the groggy team "good morning everyone, Cyrus texted me last night, he's wondering if you would like to try a new invention of his."
Jay's head snapped up, suddenly awake "we get to test an invention! Ooh! What's the invention- is it a weapon- oooh or some sort of new VR- or new mechs- or or-"
His tirade was cut off by Nya saying "Jay's it's too early in the morning for this, shhh."
"Sorry dear-"
"Shhhh"
Kai snorted quietly, looking around the rest of the room, it was the regular dining room, but Kai always liked to see if he could spot the hole in the ceiling from the one time him and Cole and Jay were trying to swat a fly down from the ceiling and let's just say it didn't go well. Speaking of Cole, to his left sat the young man, rubbing his eyes and looking like he could fall asleep any second. To his right Lloyd didn't look any better, he was resting his head on the table with his eyes closed, maybe Kai should check to make sure he's still awake-
"Good morning students" Wu walked into the room, already sipping at a cup of tea.
"Morning sensei" a chorus of rather tired sounding greetings replied.
"Seeing as you all look very exhausted I don't think training would be very good for you today, I was going to tell Cyrus no, but perhaps this could be a good way for each of you to learn about each other more" Wu said, walking over to his seat at the head of the table.
Soon enough they were all standing outside of Cyrus's office.
"Hello Ninja! So good to see you again! Right this way, let me show you my new invention!" Cyrus greeted them with a smile as he lead the way down a corridor.
The door slid open with a mechanical hiss and they walked through into a large room, at the center were six chairs and in front of those was a large metal ring.
"Uh... what is that?" Kai asked.
"It's kind of like a time machine but it should take you back to the best moment of your life!" Borg said proudly.
Jay was practically jumping up and down "that is so cool! I didn't even know that was possible! Nya are you excited!"
"It is pretty cool," Nya nodded.
Zane stepped forward "what will happen if it doesn't work the way it's intended? What are the consequences?"
Borg scratched the back of his head "see that's the part I'm not too sure about, we've never tested it on more than one person at a time before, and it's never failed with only one person."
"So basically this is a death trap, great, awesome, wow" Kai muttered under his breath, quiet enough that he thought no-one could hear. But Cole, who happened to be standing next to him, heard.
All the ninja had always known that Kai wasn't really a tech person, he didn't like it, always got confused by it, so he didn't really want to be here in the first place.
"I'm sure that won't happen though right!" Cole said, clapping Kai lightly on the back.
"Yes of course" Borg assured.
"What's the probability of it working the way its supposed to?" Zane asked.
"Ahh yes of course Zane would want to know, Pixel and I ran the stats last night, there's a 89% chance of it going the way we planned, and if not we did put pamphlets into the seat backs of the chairs, with information on what to do that comes with illustrations too! One of our new recruit designers helped come up with that one" Borg explained "Now come on up and sit in a seat, any seat."
The ninja did what they were told, though some (cough cough, Kai) were rather cautious.
"Kai come sit next to me" Cole beckoned him over to the empty seat next to Cole's.
Kai was the last to sit down before Borg pressed a button and a seat belt wrapped around his middle and two more went over each of his shoulders and connected to the one around his middle with a click. No going back now. He looked around, everyone else was also fastened into their seats. He looked over at Cole, who when he noticed Kai looking, smiled at him.
"Are you ready ninja?" Borg shouted from behind a glass panel. Since when had that been there?
Everyone nodded except for Kai, but Borg didn't seem too notice.
With a beep from the button panel behind the sheet of glass, a mechanical whirring filled the room. It felt deafening as the metallic ring in the center of the room started filling with blue energy. When the energy filled the top of the ring, suddenly a film of glowing colors filled the inside of the ring. Then they were off.
Lloyd was first, they hadn't noticed but the chairs were put on a track that was currently bringing Lloyd closer and closer to the glowing colors. Much to Kai's dismay, Kai realized that he was last and while he didn't want to go through the weird rainbow whatever, he also didn't want to have to wait in anticipation for everyone else to go. Right before Lloyd reached the ring, his chair stopped, Kai breathed a sign of relief, only to hear a clicking and Lloyd's chair moving backwards like it was preparing for laun- oh no. Right as Kai realized he watched as Lloyd's chair was flung through the portal (like you know at theme parks how they have those rides that stop and then launch you, yeah it was like that straight into the portal). Kai gulped. One after the other he watched as his friends got flung into who knows where, and each one he got closer and closer until he felt his chair stop. Oh no. Kai grabbed onto the handles of the chair, his knuckles turning white as he felt his chair click backwards. Click, click, click, click. It stopped. Then he felt the chair fly forward as his body slammed back against the backrest on his chair. A cool mist brushed his arms for a second, he had passed through the portal and to the other side. On either side of him was a blur of swirling colors. He felt dizzy, oh so dizzy. BAM his chair thunked to the ground, when had he been flying? He took a breath, and let go of the handles of his chair. He was in a forest somewhere. Somewhere in the past. Borg had done it.
