Chapter Text
They had arrived early. Planned for it in order to sit down and do paperwork that the doctor’s office needed for their particular case along with the normal things that came with going to a clinic for the first time despite having given a lot of information over the phone already. They filled everything out and handed the documents back in along with the copies of all their personal medical files to the receptionist that handed them directly to the nurse behind the counter. She gave them a warm smile and asked them to have a seat and wait since it would take some time for the doctor to look through their records before seeing them.
That was alright. They could sit and wait. Well, one of them could. Mydei was probably the most relaxed and unbothered by everything. He sat in the waiting room on his phone, scrolling through a recipe website, flipping between that and Fig Stew comics that had recently blown up. He donned a warm smile when reading them, happy to see his favorite childhood chimera getting a renewed love with the revival of Chimera Park airing new episodes which, honestly, he wasn’t even ashamed of saying he watched religiously every week.
Phainon sat on his phone as well, leg bouncing in an attempt to expel the energy that was building up in his body from not moving around. He normally could handle being still in most situations but this wasn’t an ordinary situation at all and he was nervous and anxious and excited and needed to get some energy out. Plus, he knew his rut was coming up with how tuned into things he’d gotten and with how his energy was seemingly boiling over more and more each day. He honestly couldn’t be more grateful they were doing this now because he would be incapacitated within the week and they’d have to prolong it even more and that would be a disservice to Caelus and his feelings.
Caelus, though, sat between them both, hands fumbling in his lap, playing with the hem of his white t-shirt as he chewed his lip, more anxious than both of them and reeling off of whatever he was feeling from them through their bond, which was, sadly, more from Phainon at the moment.
“Deliverer,” Mydei said, low to be respectful of being in the waiting room. “Calm down or take a walk.”
His leg stopped immediately and he sat back in his chair, the tension flowing from his body as it relaxed under Mydei’s more calm demeanor and soft, soothing pheromones.
“Sorry,” came the reply as Phainon took one of Caelus’s hands in his and kissed it, realizing he was adding to the distress of his mate. “Sorry, Cae. I’m trying.”
Caelus gave a soft smile. “It’s alright. I know you’re fighting instincts and all that right now. I don’t blame you for being restless but I do appreciate the apology and for doing your best right now.”
Mydei moved his arm around Caelus’s shoulder, squeezing softly as another anchor to the thrum of anxiety they shared. He pocketed his phone and leaned in, nuzzling against his mate’s cheek.
“Don’t be so worried. The check up will go fine; we’ll get all the information we need, today, and just have to come back after for a check up.”
He leaned into the nuzzle. “I know, Dei. It’s just…I didn’t think this would ever happen and you two are so good to me and understanding. I’m anxious, yeah, but in a good way. I can’t wait for it and I’m beyond happy at how accepting the both of you are in doing this,” he said with a happy smile. “I know things will change a lot but not really, right? I’m still me; I’ll just be a little different. I guess, my anxiety is that I hope you two accept me after and we can still be together.”
Mydei rolled his eyes, something he did when annoyed, yes, but also when one of his mates was being ridiculous.
“HKS,” he grumbled, raising a hand to pinch the smaller alpha’s cheek. “Get out of that head of yours or it’ll go all mushy like the Deliverer’s.”
“Hey! I’m not mushy,” the other alpha whined.
“Oh, right. Not mushy, Brain damaged from thinking too much. It’s a deadly disease, or so I’m told.”
Phainon’s eyes narrowed at that as he stared back at Mydei. “I resent that.”
Mydei scoffed. “More like represent it.”
Caelus chuckled between them and they both turned their attention to him, smiling at hearing him relax and feeling him calm down.
“Caelus?” a nurse called from the doorway leading back into the patient rooms.
He took a breath and exhaled. “Yes?” he said, standing.
“This way please,” she said. “And your mates can come along, too.”
They both stood, following after Caelus through the doors and down a few hallways to one of the patient rooms in the back of the facility.
The room she left them in was nothing special, mostly typical but with soft emerald walls, white trim and cerulean carpet. There was a worn wooden desk with a computer on it, a swivel chair, bookshelves lining the walls with books and papers scattered about and a few figurines that Mydei automatically knew were Dromas as they were one of the creatures that were less popular than the chimeras but still loved by fans that watched Chimera Park. He couldn’t help but smirk at that.
“Doctor Anaxagoras will be with you shortly,” she said, closing the door after they were inside.
“You said Dan Heng came here?” Phainon asked, looking around the room, gaze eventually falling onto Caelus.
“Mhm. He and Blade did a few days back for pheromone tests after the assault. They saw a female doctor, though, but she did mention that her boss, this Anaxagoras guy, was top of his field but is kind of eccentric.”
“Guess we’ll just have to wait and see,” he grinned, leaning in to nuzzle his mate’s neck, offering some warmth and stability as they waited a little more.
The door opened and two nurses walked inside carrying an array of things that looked like vials and needles.
“The doctor has asked us to go ahead and draw your blood and do the pheromone tests to get them started,” one of them explained.
They all nodded and went through the process of being pricked, swabbed, and tested one after the other until the last vial was closed and the nurses thanked them, leaving as efficiently as they’d come.
“Huh, that’s fast work,” Phai said.
“At least they're efficient,” Mydei replied.
“I just don’t wanna get pricked like that again for a while. I hate needles,” Caelus scrunched his nose in disgust as he spoke.
Mydei leaned closer. “You’re going to end up being pricked by something much larger within the week.”
Caelus blushed and leaned away, golden eyes meeting each other but one of them wearing a more startling predatorial gaze, hungry with desire held under Mydei’s reputable control of his alpha instincts. Now, though, with the impending change to his mate and the heightened anticipation of everything that brought with it, he’d been slipping more and more in public. However, that did not give him free reign of being shameless.
“Shameless alpha,” Caeluse snarled, smacking his mate.
Phainon merely chuckled and that sound had the smaller alpha whipping his head around with a glare at him. “As if you are any better?” he snapped, smacking Phainon as well.
He laughed a little more obviously at that and wrapped his arms around Caelus, pulling him into a hug while the smaller alpha pouted. “Get used to it, Cae. Once you’re our omega, it’s going to be worse.”
“He’s right,” Mydei agreed, crossing his ankle over his knee, sitting as if his chair were a throne and him the king. “You know how alphas are with their omegas and you have two to deal with, so getting used to it now is the best way to move forward,” he said.
“An excellent mindset,” came a voice from the door that had them all whipping their heads. The man with mint colored hair and an eye patch walked into the room, letting the door close behind him as he sat the pile of medical records down on his desk and took up residence in the chair behind it. “I’m Doctor Anaxagoras; you will call me Doctor Anaxagoras, you will not interrupt unless asked a question or I have finished speaking. We have a great deal to discuss and I wish to convey everything thoroughly so there are no misunderstandings.”
The three shared a look with each other then looked back at him.
“This is where you speak,” he said, good eye slightly glaring as he folded his hands over his desk.
“Ah, right, sorry. Thank you for seeing us and for helping us understand this process,” Phainon said, hand behind his neck as he gently scratched the skin, nervous.
“Yes, thank you, doctor,” Mydei chorused.
Caelus’s head titled. “Can I just call you Doctor Anaxa? Your full name is kind of hard on the tongue.”
The doctor looked him dead on, unamused. “Can I just call you ‘fumbling imbecile’? Since you clearly do not have the comprehension to use a person’s name correctly in a professional situation?” he bit back, noting how Caelus looked shocked and sat straighter in his chair. “That’s what I thought. Now, about your case,” he began, taking the files and separating them on the wide desk. “I’ve looked over your records and see that there are no big issues with your medical history so that is a positive to move forward with. Everything fulfills the required measures so far but until your tests come back in, I cannot guarantee that going forward will be good or detrimental. However, I am willing to go over any questions that you have right now.”
“How long does the process normally take?” Mydei asked first.
“It varies depending on the compatibility of the alphas and other factors. Considering there will be two of you as the dominant partners, it can be estimated to take a shorter time for the change to set in. Perhaps, and this is just conjecture, 3-5 ruts. But those are Caelus’s ruts and do not account for the two of you.”
“What’s the difference?” Phainon asked.
“Well, for starters,” he pointed to Caelus, “he’s the one being bitched. The body has to be in rut and forced into submission and take an alpha’s knot during that time as well as keeping his own knot from stimulating. It will be painful, yes, but no change is ever easy.”
“What do you mean by ‘forced’?” Mydei asked, shifting forward in his seat, uncomfortable with that term. “I will not ever force him to do anything.”
The doctor smiled, warmly at the answer. “It does not mean what you think it does. When we use the term ‘forced submission’ we are merely implying that during rut, the alpha’s instincts are at their highest and mostly demand submission regardless of anything. To submit during rut is a hard thing for any alpha to undergo. Sometimes, the partner will need to be a little more, hmm, overbearing perhaps is a better phrase to use. A stronger presence to make sure the one being bitched takes the knot and doesn’t knot.”
“Oh, I see. That makes more sense, thank you for clarifying,” Mydei replied. The doctor gave a nod.
“I read online that someone with two mates needs to have them both at the same time in order for the body not to reject one later on,” Caelus said.
Doctor Anaxagoras rolled his eyes and huffed. “Mere uneducated advice from people who have no idea what they speak of is not a good source to lend your free time to,” he said. “That is to say, wrong. As long as ejaculate is made by both partners at some point during the omega-to-be’s rut, it makes no difference. The point is to merely make sure the semen is deposited into the one being bitched to get used to being knotted by the other mates or partners. And also to make sure the ejaculate stays inside for three hours before cleaning. Once the process changes the alpha into an omega, that will not change, either. And, since you already share mating bites, the entire thing should go more smoothly compared to someone unmated.”
“Really? So we have an advantage?” Phainon perked up a little, excited now instead of anxious.
A nod. “Yes. Your situation is actually quite rare in being a multiple partner relationship but the fact that you were all able to mate with one another without problems is, itself, a rarity. It should help with the submission issue as well. Tell me, though, do you switch during intercourse or does one tend to be the receiver over the other?”
Caelus’s face turned red while Phainon’s cheeks dusted with a hint of pink.
“Mostly, Caelus receives when we do indulge in full intercourse,” Mydei said, two heads whipping to stare at how he just so casually spoke about their sex lives. “Between us, Phainon and I top Caelus and I sometimes top Phainon. Caelus doesn’t top much but he has with Phai before.”
“I see,” his eye settled on Caelus. “So you are already used to submitting to them?”
A shy nod.
“Your case really is the dream case for this,” the doctor smiled, whether that was in genuine care or excitement for their particular situation, no one knew.
A knock at the door had them turning to see a nurse step in with a file, handing it over to the doctor.
“Thank you,” he said, taking it.
The door shut behind her and Doctor Anaxagoras was already reading the contents. “Interesting,” he said.
“Is there a problem?” Phainon asked, worried.
“Titans, no. In fact, this is excellent news. First, all your bloodwork is great. Second, your pheromone levels are all elevated but Phainon’s more so. Your rut is near?” he asked, eyeing Phainon.
A nod.
“Mm. That explains the rise in the others, then.”
“How is that good news?” Caelus asked.
That lone eye shot toward him. “It means you can start the process now and, hopefully, his rut can kickstart your own. However, if it doesn’t, then you’ll have to wait, of course. However, it is better that you spend the rut with him to take his knot regardless. The more you take, the more your body will adjust and understand what it needs to change and do.”
“Is it better for us to be in rut together, then?” Mydei asked.
“Not necessarily. If Phainon is used to you enough and allows you near Caelus during the couplings, perhaps just normal sex and a normal knot from you will suffice for the added stimulus. However, prime bitching can be reached if you’re all synced up, yes.”
“Is there a safe way to do that?” Mydei asked again.
A rather odd smile tugged the doctor’s lips up. “There are very few. The best way is natural, of course, however, there are a couple of drugs that can kickstart a rut or a heat but they are to be given at certified facilities. If taken, the normal pre-rut symptoms come on faster and the rut starts within 24 hours of taking the medication.”
Mydei shared a look at his mates.
“Dei, you’re thinking of inducing your own?” Caelus asked.
“Perhaps. We can see if you get triggered with Phai’s. Maybe with both of us in rut it can push you into yours and we can kill two birds with one stone.”
“That is an option,” the doctor commented. “But entirely your decision. I have the means to administer the drug and would be able to do that should you decide to use it. Now, as far as other concerns for the bitching process,” he started again. “There are two methods that must be adhered to; you cannot do one without the other or else the change will not happen. First, all parties must be 100% ready for it. Second, the to-be omega must start making mental changes to see themself as an omega: think like one, act like one. That would include nesting, referring to oneself as an omega, doing other omega-like things, wearing a collar, defaulting to the dominant alpha around them regardless of it being a mate or not but not in a situation that would cause harm or degradation in any form. Do you have any omega friends?”
“Yes. My twin is an omega and my best friend. He actually just came here to see Doctor Hyacine with his partner a few days ago,” Caelus smiled.
“I see. Then, I would suggest talking with them and doing things with them that other omegas tend to do. If you trust them enough, that is.”
“I can do that,” he replied.
“As for the alpha mates,” his eye darted between Mydei and Phainon. “It is imperative that you both treat him as your omega. If instinct rises to fight what you’re doing, fight it off and be aware of your actions and words. Buy him a collar, give gifts, everything expected of you as an alpha with their omega, do it.”
They nodded.
“Good. As for everything else, time can only tell. If you follow the instructions I’ve given you, and give it the care and time needed, you should see results within six months. However,” he caught himself, remembering something. “There is a possibility that once your hormones get kick started, your ruts will become untrackable. It is imperative that you all are aware that your daily schedules will need to be flexible for the foreseeable future. Will that be a problem?”
“Not for me,” Caelus said.
“I can arrange my work accordingly,” Mydei echoed.
“That…” Phainon hesitated. “I’m due to go to Styxia after my rut for work and will be gone for a while.”
“Then, I would say if you are serious about this, you find a way to not go,” the doctor commented. “Otherwise, if all things are left to Mydeimos, Caelus’s body will more than likely see him as his only alpha and mate.”
The reality hit Phainon hard in that moment. He hadn’t expected this to be an ongoing thing, that it would just be during their normal ruts and things wouldn’t be changed so much. However, there was no second guessing anything about it.
“Alright. I’ll contact my office when we leave here,” he said, smiling at Caelus. “You’re more important than any relic buried to the sands of time, partner. And I’ll be here for you.”
“How touching,” the doctor deadpanned, unamused by the display. “If your rut hasn’t been induced by the second or third day of Phainon’s,” he directed to Caelus, “it is probably better to have Mydeimos attempt his rut alongside you or you will need to just wait for yours to naturally come.”
They all nodded.
“Lastly, the nurse will provide you with some necessary medications that can help soothe your body after taking a knot. Rut knots are different from casual sex knots and your body will need extra care during that time. And both of you,” he eyed the other two alphas suspiciously, "absolutely must take care of him and prepare him properly. Understand?”
They nodded, a little concerned to say an affirmative due to how they were being glared at.
“Then, be gone and call my office if there are any issues or updates and make sure to schedule a follow up after the first cycle, Caelus. It is imperative that your body be checked out often to make sure things are alright. The last thing any of us need is to see you injured or worse.”
The trio left the clinic in contemplative silence. Slow steps led them toward the parking lot where Phainon’s bike and Mydei’s car were parked side by side. When they arrived next to them, they stood between the two vehicles; no one was speaking.
So, taking the initiative, Caelus did. “I should get back to the bookstore. I wanna talk with Dan Heng about the omega stuff. I,” he paused for a moment, “I’m not ready to talk with Stelle.”
The other two nodded.
“I can drop you,” Mydei said.
Phainon sighed. “Yeah, probably best. I need to go to the office and talk things through with them. I’m more than sure it won’t be an issue,” he smiled at Caelus, running a hand through his hair, down his neck where he squeezed lovingly.
“Um,” Caelus started. “Could you…scent me before you go, Phai? Anaxa did say-”
“Of course,” the white-blond haired man said, pulling Caelus closer. He leaned forward, slowly rubbing their cheeks together before nosing down to his neck, pressing soft kisses along the way until he hovered over his scent gland, lips parted, hot breath passing over the exposed skin. He nuzzled into it, lapping at the gland, sucking gently, fangs raking against the mark he’d made years ago to bond them together. When he pulled away, satisfied, he smiled bigger at the dazed look on Caelus’s face. He chuckled. “You look so good like this, my omega,” he purred, low and between only the two of them.
Caelus’s eyes dilated to almost pinpricks as he stared up at Phainon, not expecting that kind of talk so soon but it did wonders to his mood and mindset as a soft purr echoed from his chest and rising affection and desire seeped through their bond.
Mydei stepped closer, sensing it all, pressing his chest against Caelus’s back so that he was sandwiched between them both. He placed his hands on the younger alpha’s arms, slowly moving them up and down in a gentle pet, placing a kiss atop Caelus’s head, down his temple, and his cheek until he reached the opposite crook of his neck. He, too, took his time scenting Caelus, lapping hot skin and teasing his own bond mark before resting his chin on his mate.
Phainon moved closer, snaking his hands around Caelus’s waist, pressing them all closer together.
He smirked. “Dei, you should see his face,” he said. “Our omega seems rather content and horny as fuck right now.”
Mydei hummed, his deep timber vibrating through Caelus’s body where his throat pressed against hot, exposed skin. “I bet. I wonder if we should take him home or back to work. What do you think, omega?” he purred, nipping at Caelus’s ear.
“Titans, you two,” he meweled, body almost going boneless in their arms. “We just left and you’re already driving me crazy?” he complained, but he wasn’t serious about it. He was loving every minute of whatever was happening and craved more. But he knew this wasn’t the place or the time. They had things to do, places to go, and items to prepare for what was to come in the next few days.
He shuddered when Phai leaned back into the crook of his neck, breath ghosting over the bond mark once more, nibbling at the skin there while Mydei nibbled the other side, sending wave after wave of heat to his throbbing cock.
“Get in the car,” Mydei all but commanded.
Phainon leaned up and kissed Caelus deeply, hungrily, pushing back into Mydei’s steady hold before pulling back, panting.
“Fuck,” he growled, holding the back of Caelus’s head, fingers fisted into his silvery locks as he pressed their foreheads together. “Anymore like this and I’m going to fuck you into the car in front of everyone; strip you down and take you over and over, mark you and paint your insides with my cum so much that no one dare try to approach you ever again. Fuck.” Another growl rose from this chest as he leaned up and captured Mydei’s lips next. “I swear to the gods that if he is not properly prepared for me when I get home tonight, I’m beating your ass in the ring,” he said when he pulled away.
“Noted,” Myde smirked over at him, hands splayed over the front of Cealus’s chest as Phainon finally pulled completely away and lifted his leg over his bike. He shoved his helmet on and started the bike, sending them both one last glance before adjusting his hard cock on the seat and drove out of the parking lot, speeding away down the street.
Caelus sighed at his leaving but he tried to reason it away as he came down from the rush of heat that had taken over his body.
Mydei’s nails dug into his chest, pulling him closer until his own hardened cock pressed against Caelus’s ass.
“I thought I said get in the car, Cae or are you trying to test me?”
He smiled, rolling his hips back, pressing them closer together and earning a soft moan from Mydei.
“Never,” he teased.
“Careful, omega. I could take you straight home and fuck you into next week, leaving you full and dripping for Phai to come home to.”
Caelus’s breath hitched.
“Oh? You like that idea?” he hummed. “Tell me, where would you like me to take you? The table? Sofa? Your bed? Mine? So many choices. But the obvious answer is: everywhere, right?” he teased against Caelus’s ear.
“Yes,” he replied, breathless as that coiling heat rose once more. “All of it. Everywhere, Dei. Keep me full until Phai gets home and let him see your claim dripping from me.”
“Dripping from where, Cae? Be more specific,” he encouraged, a hand sliding under his mate’s shirt to tease and touch.
“From my-my cunt,” he admitted, blushing brightly at saying it out loud. It was embarrassing, really, saying those words out loud when he’d internalized them for so long. He honestly did not expect his mates to start the process as soon as they stepped out of the building but, well, he supposed it was expected and that doing so sooner rather than later would be good for the process. Still, it did not lessen the embarrassment over it at all.
Mydei purred behind him. “Good job, Cae.” He pressed an assuring kiss to the younger alpha’s temple. “I’ll make sure to do just that after you finish at the bookstore, but, before that, how about you put that pretty omega mouth to work and let me fuck it in the car,” he whispered against the shell of Caelus’s ear. “Get in.”
Without hesitating, and fueled by desire, Caelus swung around Mydei, the alpha turning with him to open the door for him. Caelus fell into the passenger side and buckled in as Mydei walked around to the driver’s side and slid behind the wheel.
“Can you last long enough to get somewhere out of the way, love?” he asked.
Caelus’s golden eyes focused on his mate, breath unsteady, face flushed, aroused pheromones pouring off of him. “Fast,” he said, gaze darting down to Mydei’s crotch, taking in the sight of his hardened cock beneath his pants. He licked his lips. “Really fast,” he looked back up at Mydei who was smirking wickedly at him, just as hungry.
The car rolled up to the bookstore. Mydei got out and opened the door for Caelus, helping him out and adjusting his shirt a little more to have a few more seconds to touch him before parting for a few hours.
He leaned in and kissed his swollen lips, wiping the side where some visible cum still lingered. “Go to the bathroom and clean up before talking to anyone, love.”
Caelus nodded, still dazed from their previous debauchery.
“Cae,” Mydei called to him, getting those beautiful golden eyes on him. “There you are. Are you alright?”
Another nod.
“Words, love.”
A sigh. “Yeah, I’m good,” he said, leaning into Mydie’s palm. “Fuck, I’m more than good. That was probably the best car fuck we’ve ever had. My ass is going to be sore for the rest of the day.”
Mydei smirked. “Good. Keep it soft and pliant for Phai, yeah? He cannot wait to have you, too.”
“Mm. Maybe it’ll kickstart his rut.”
“Maybe. And if it does, we’ll get through it together. Now, just message me when you’re ready and I’ll come pick you up.”
Another nod.
Mydei sighed, a smile on his lips as he pulled Caelus in for a hug. “Words, love.”
“Alright. I’ll call you. Thanks, Mydei, for everything today. I love you.”
He kissed the top of silvery hair. “I love you, too.”
They parted and Caelus walked inside the bookstore, sparing a short glance back to his mate before disappearing behind the door and into the depths of the store.
Dan Heng looked up from the counter the minute the door opened and smiled at seeing his best friend but it quickly vanished as Caelus darted straight past him, heading to the back somewhere. He blinked, curious at what was wrong. Glancing back toward the door, he noticed Mydei’s car pulling away. He knew they had their doctor meeting today at the pheromone clinic so all he could put together in his limited knowledge was perhaps something had happened.
“What’s wrong with him?” Blade asked, walking up to the front counter where he had his art books and sketchbooks open.
“I’m not sure,” the omega answered, turning to face him. “Do you mind watching up here while I go check on him? If anyone comes in just call for me or press the buzzer to ring the back room.”
“Sure. He went into the bathroom, by the way.”
Dan Heng thanked him and disappeared toward the bathroom. He found Caelus drying his face and hands in front of the mirror, eyes darting over in the reflection toward Dan Heng.
“Is everything alright, Cae?” he asked.
“Hm? Oh! Yeah. Everything’s great,” he smiled.
“I see. You just came in without a word and beelined here so I was a little worried something happened at your appointment.”
His smile morphed into a grin. “Nah. That went better than we expected. That doctor, Anaxa, he really knows his stuff and helped us out a lot!”
Puzzled, Dan Heng tilted his head, doing his best not to sniff the air to see what his friend’s scent was giving off but he wasn’t really giving any indication of what had happened. He took one inhale and his face blushed.
“Oh,” he said, looking away from Caelus.
The alpha snickered. “Yeah, I should have said something but my head’s all a little fuzzy still,” he replied, still grinning.
“Well, you are mated and it’s none of my business but if you’re going to be on the floor, you need to reign it in.”
“Mhm. Plan to. Do you still have those scent blockers I left here?”
“They’re in the office. Come on.”
They walked out of the bathroom and into the back room, heading for the office. Dan Heng opened one of the desk drawers and brought out the patches for alphas and handed them off. Caelus took them out one by one and applied them to his scent glands on his neck and wrists, asking Dan Heng if he smelled better. With a nod, he took the patches back and placed the box in the desk once more.
“Wanna talk about it all?”
He hummed. “Not right now, sorry. Just need to sit with it some more but I’ll probably be unable to work properly for the next little bit. The doctor did say that once we trigger the change that my rut can come on sporadically.”
“That’s no problem,” Dan Heng smiled. “Just let me know when you need to take off for Phai’s rut and I won’t put you on until you tell me otherwise.”
A nod. “Um, there was something else and that’s kind of why I came in today for a few hours. But, he said for best results that the omega-to-be should start doing omega things like nesting and whatever else they do; I don’t know. But you do. I was hoping maybe you could give me some pointers on things to do or think or…well, how to be an omega so I can get the mindset going? I’d assume my instincts will take over eventually but, well, I’m kind of clueless.”
Dan Heng smiled warmly at his best friend. “I would love to help, Cae, but I do need to get back to the desk since Blade technically isn’t an employee.”
A nod. “Does he know? Did you tell him?”
“No. I haven’t said anything about it to him because it is not my business to tell unless you say it’s alright. Though, he does know I have concern for what’s going on with you.”
“Do you think he would, I don’t know, judge me about it?”
Dan Heng’s head shook.”Absolutely not. He’s not that kind of guy and if he did, he knows I would bite his head off for it or kick his ass.”
A chuckle. “Really would love to see that happen. You’re scrappier than my sister.”
“I would describe myself as focused and persistent when compared with Stelle. She’s the one with claws and mischief.”
That earned a chuckle from his friend.
“That’s the most Dan Heng answer I’ve ever heard.”
“Right, well, if you’re done teasing, let’s go back to the front.”
Back out front, Blade moved back around to his sketching and Caelus and Dan Heng took seats on the stools behind the counter, chatting about nothing at first until the conversation was steered back to the topic the silver haired alpha had brought up.
“So, is nesting for an omega kind of like an alphas?” he asked.
Dan Heng hummed at that. “Not really, no. Alphas nest for comfort just like omegas but that is about it. An omega’s nest is their safe place where we relax and can comfortably protect our kids when or if we have them. The pieces of the nest are chosen on instinct, mostly. You know how I get things from you, Stelle, and March?” A nod. “That’s part of it. We feel safest around the scents of familiar friends and family and, on the concept of children, they get exposed early on to those scents to understand them as safe as well. Now, those things are normally not in nests during heat. At least, for me. I take out all the things my friends and family have gifted me to just have my scent alone because others will cause me to become guarded and feral despite them being my loved ones.”
“And where does an alpha fit into that? Heats, I mean.”
“Well, if someone has a partner or mate, it’s a lot easier to manage and go through physically but also emotionally and often heats should last fewer days. Now, I’ve never shared a heat with an alpha nor had a partner so this is only second hand knowledge, mind you,” he said, earning him a sharp flare in his bond with Blade. His eyes darted over to the alpha who kept his head down a little lower so his hair covered his face.
“And them in a nest is helpful?”
Dan Heng focused back on Caelus. “Usually, yes. Having your mate or partner’s scent is a good thing as it fulfills that safety that omegas need since their alpha is, on an instinctual level, their provider and source of care and protection. Having the alpha’s scent is usually enough if they physically cannot be there but it’s even better when they are.”
“Huh. That is a lot different than when I nest right now. I usually just use a few extra covers and pillows; sometimes I will grab a thing or two from the guys but it’s more for having closeness.”
Dan Heng nodded his head. “Then that instinctual part is similar, too, it seems. Blade,” he said, turning toward his alpha. “Anything to say about alpha nests?”
The man looked up, blinking and confused at why he was being brought into their conversation. “What?”
Dan Heng and Caelus giggled, knowingly sharing a quick glance at each other.
“Wait. You’re teasing me again, aren’t you?” his eyes narrowed in on Dan Heng as he frowned, pouting.
“I would never,” Dan Heng smirked incredulously.
The two friends turned back around, leaving Blade to himself once more.
“Anything else?”
“Well, what about…temperament or actions or thoughts? Like, you know how alphas always want to protect, provide, and give to their omega, right? What’s the other side like?”
“Hmm, I can only speak from my personal experiences,” he began. Caelus nodded along. “I would say nurturing, caring for others' well being, a more tender approach to things in the world are among the most characteristic details of an omega which most people know. However, being mated as you are, and through what I’ve learned having the temporary bond with Blade, there is the feeling of tending to them, so to say; like the pull to soothe and placate in certain ways and at certain times. But, there is also how an omega responds to the alpha’s attention. Being coy, playful, teasing, all traits you already have, mind you, can be used to keep their attention and entice them. Those usually are led by subconscious instincts. Only when there is a real issue do I ever feel the pull to address it or do so on my own accord. Then there is letting the alpha do what they need to do.”
“What does that mean?”
“Hmm, well, let me ask you a question. How does Mydei and Phai treat you? Have they ever held doors for you, helped you into or out of the car? Bought you gifts outside of courting? Things like that?”
“Well, yeah. We all kind of tend to do that for each other but considering they mostly drive, they always open the door for me or help me with things like if we take the bikes out, they’ll put my helmet on.”
“That’s what I mean. Omegas let their alphas tend to them in those ways to let them feel needed and wanted and, in return, they get cuddles and kisses,” he smiled softly.
Caelus giggled. “Right. Just cuddles and kisses. Can’t say that our connection stops at just those, though.”
Dan Heng rolled his eyes even though he was laughing slightly. “You are ridiculous.”
“Can’t help myself, you know that. Anyway, you mentioned nesting nights before, would you maybe show me before Phai’s rut kicks in? Maybe I can start doing that.”
“I cannot let you into my nest Cae, sorry. But, I can show you on the couch if you’re amenable to it and,” he turned toward Blade, “Do you mind if I show him, Blade?”
The alpha looked up again. “Show who what?”
“Show Caelus how omegas tend to nest but I’ll have to use my spare nesting things. Will his scent bother you being around such things in the apartment?”
He shrugged. “I don’t mind. And if it gets to me, I’ll just wash them or shred them and buy you new things,” he grinned.
Dan Heng rolled his eyes. “Alphas,” he muttered, turning back around.
Caelus giggled. “I get where he’s coming from, though.”
The omega sighed. “You really, really don’t but I understand why you wouldn’t. Anyway, how about after work? We close early today. But maybe once the girls come in we can sneak over to my apartment for a little while, too.”
“That could work, yeah. But, don’t mention this around Stelle. I haven’t told her yet and I’m still trying to figure out how to tell her, you know?”
A nod. “I understand that. But I also know her and she’ll be thrilled for you regardless but I would suggest not keeping her in the dark too terribly long. If Phai’s rut starts then you’ll not be able to say anything until after.”
“Yeah, you’re right, as always,” he sighed, leaning his head onto the front counter as he took things in. He turned slightly, letting his cheek rest against the wooden surface. “Did you know that during bitching that it’s recommended to let the alpha’s ejaculate remain inside for at least three hours before removing it?”
“Motherfucker!” Blade exclaimed from behind them.
The two turned, eyes widening before Caelus burst into laughter at the other alpha lifting a tea cup where it had spilled all over his sketchbook, a low growl vibrating from his chest.
His red orange eyes darted up to glare at Caelus. “You’re a fucking menace.”
