Work Text:
Colin stayed silent on their way home.
Bill didn’t know what he could say to comfort him. Sometimes, words simply weren’t enough. It had been a long day.
Bill had seen Sarah crying when they left her place, and Colin had looked full of guilt and regret. Bill said nothing. Thinking about how Colin had spent years getting close to her, to investigate Pyramid Security made him wonder if it was what Colin’s life had always been like. Full of lies and pretenses. How could him even bear it?
He wondered what would the rest of their team think, when they found out Kevin was a mole. They had known him much longer than he. He couldn’t imagine how hard it would become, if his fellow FBI agents had betrayed him.
Then Kevin died right before their eyes. And it was Toni who did it. Colin had frozen the moment he saw her in the security footage. “It’s Toni.” He had sounded shocked. Then he sighed with relief. “She’s alive.” A smile had almost appeared on his face. But reality crushed him in the next second. Confusion, worry, hurt and anger crossed his face one after another before he finally turned unreadable. Bill was full of questions, but he knew it was not a good time to ask. He called Nikki to tell her that Kevin had been killed, but he didn’t tell her it was Toni who did it. He took Colin into his car and drove him home.
Colin opened the door, walked directly into his secret room. Bill followed after closing the front door behind him. Colin stared at his evidence board for a short while before suddenly sweeping everything off it.
“Colin.” Bill rushed over to stop him. He grabbed Colin’s hands and noticed blood on his right palm. It was probably scratched by a pin or something. “You’re bleeding,” he said softly. He guided Colin back to the living room. Took his first aid kit and started cleaning his wound.
He had never seen Colin in such vulnerable state before. His eyes were lowered, unfocused. He looked distant.
Bill stayed quiet. He knew Colin need time.
He thought he should go home and finally had the conversation he should have long time ago with Katie. It was not fair to keep his job a secret to her. He needed to do it, before the lies consumed him, too.
But he still worried about Colin. It must be hurt and confusing, to find out that someone you loved had been hiding things from you and even had faked her death, left you to live with loss and regret.
“Done,” he placed a bandage on the wound and stood up, but Colin stopped him by grabbing his wrist.
“Stay,” he said quietly.
“Okay.” Bill replied without any hesitation. “Are you all right?” He asked while placing his free hand on Colin’s.
“I don’t know who to trust anymore.” Colin said, his voice sounded bitter.
“Well, I’m here for you. We will find out what happened.” He squeezed Colin’s hand lightly.
Colin nodded with his hand still on Bill’s wrist.
Bill already knew it was going to be a sleepless night.
