Work Text:

Life was quiet and peaceful in Castiel and Dean’s small cabin house in bum fuck nowhere in Kansas. Ever since they retired from hunting and heavenly affairs and Jack took over as God, the couple decided to move out of the bunker and live a simple “apple pie life” as Dean put it. Thus, the couple found the cabin after being married for six months.

Life was steady - Dean got a simple job as a car mechanic while Cas stayed home and took up beekeeping. He has three hives set up behind the cabin where the sun typically shines brightest. It was simple - quiet.

The cabin was made of a sturdy, deep brown wood that gives off a cozy family home vibe with a simple cross-gable deep forest green roofing slates, complete with a stone chimney.

On the first floor, there was a living room with twin brown leather recliners that Dean had bought for him and Cas, as well as a matching brown leather couch decorated with some simple black pillows and a red flannel blanket folded neatly on the headrests. In front of the furniture was a small stone fireplace with a TV mounted above it. There was also a shelf underneath the TV with various picture frames with photos of family and other loved ones; Dean put up the old photo of him at four years old standing with Mary holding a five month old Sam in front of their old house in Lawrence.

Behind the living room was a spacious kitchen and an adjacent dining room. Dean was elated over the kitchen, and Cas shared the sentiment. While Cas doesn’t need to eat, he and Dean still make food together and share meals in the dining room. There is a door leading to the back where Cas keeps his beehives and collects their honey.

There were three bedrooms on the second floor; Cas and Dean had the master bedroom with a bathroom attached, a small library where Cas keeps several books about beekeeping, nature, and some world history books with the occasional lore book somewhere. However with the last room, Cas and Dean aren’t sure what to do with it just yet. A guest bedroom seems like a good idea in case Sam or Jack want to visit.

It is mid-September, the couple being married for seven months now and have unpacked everything already since neither man has that many belongings. Cas is in the kitchen kneading dough for the pizza Dean wishes to make for dinner tonight while Dean’s outside chopping some wood for their traditional stone oven to cook the said pizza in.

Cas kneads the dough carefully how Dean taught him, popping any air bubbles trapped in it. He looks up and out the window, spotting the ex-hunter lifting the axe and bringing it down onto a small log with a loud crack sound and splitting the wood down the middle only halfway.

The angel watches as his husband mutters something and sets the axe down and picks up the split wood. The ex-hunter grips the wood where the axe came down onto it, and then he rips the wood apart with his bare hands, the muscles in his arms tightening with effort.

Castiel can’t help but think about those arms - the same arms that keep him cool in the hot summer breeze and push him on the John Deere mower when the grass needs to be cut. Cas knows a lot of women wish they had a man like him; it’s such a bummer.

When they first met, Dean was like an arrow - like a bird in the heart, like a sparrow. They’re a match, and he’s in Cas’s bone marrow.

Cas watches Dean toss them to the pile he conjured and then bend over and pick up said pile. Cas quickly looks away and back at the dough when Dean stands upright and marches towards the back door. He opens the door with a huff, and then he walks in and towards the stone oven as the door shuts by itself behind him.

Dean neatly stacks the wood into the stone oven, sparing a quick glance at Cas kneading the dough. “You got it, sunshine?” The ex-hunter inquires, placing the last piece of wood.

“Yes, I just need to shape the dough accordingly,” replied the angel, pinching the edges of the dough to make a crust shape. Dean stands there and watches Cas shape the dough with a small smirk.

Cas is positively voodoo in everything he does.

Does Cas know exactly how magical he is? And here is his angel, cooking for his husband.

Dean smiles to himself, and he grabs the marinara sauce he bought after getting off of work and opens it effortlessly. He hip bumps Cas playfully, and Cas steps to the side to give Dean room with a smile of his own. Dean pours a generous amount of marinara sauce onto the dough, and then he grabs a ladle and smears the marinara around evenly as Cas opens the fridge and retrieves some mozzarella cheese and pepperoni.

Cas grabs the matches and lights one up, and then he tosses it into the wood pile in the stone oven and watches as flames slowly engulf them. Then, he and Dean wordlessly top off the pizza with the cheese and pepperoni and place it on the pizza spatula, and then Dean shimmies it into the stone oven.

Dean steps back next to Cas and wraps an arm around his shoulders. “God, I love this oven!” Dean claims enthusiastically, watching the flames lick up the bottom of the pizza. Cas nods, “It is a well-made and charming oven,” Dean chuckles at the statement as they watch the pizza slowly cook. Cas looks up at his loving husband.

The fire casts an ethereal glow against Dean’s face, highlighting his facial features.

Dean is positively voodoo in everything he does.

Does Dean know exactly how magical he is? And here is the ex-hunter, more than likely aware how absolutely wonderful he is.

After thirty-five minutes, Cas retrieves the fully cooked pizza from the stone oven and moves it to the counter. Dean immediately grabs the pizza cutter and starts cutting it up into eight slices. Once it cooled down enough, Dean grabs two slices for himself, and Cas does the same. The couple eat in comfortable silence - words aren’t needed at the moment.

Both men are happy to cook up something for each other ‘cause they’re both positively voodoo to each other in everything they do for the other. They know the other is absolutely wonderful.

Notes:

Thanks so much for reading, and I apologize this is short! I wanted something simple and fluffy this time around. Also, I may or may not have extended this series by a couple more installments, but I still plan on ending it soon. For now, you get cabin Destiel bc I thought it was cute. Anyways, thanks again and I'll see yall in the next installment!
