Chapter Text
It was a perfect day in Green Hill.
Really. It was.
Aside from the maniacal madman of a doctor—who was also weirdly enthusiastic about eggs—who was trashing it with his robots. Violently.
That’s fine! Sonic would handle it, he always did, and he did it without breaking a sweat! Honestly, it wasn’t even that many badniks today, the doctor was being light for once.
What wasn’t too fine was how tired he was. He was always tired now. Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik had been messing with Green Hill and the surrounding areas for years now, ever since the blue hedgehog was a little hoglet. Sonic was almost 30 now and although he wished badly that he could say he was still young and that destroying Eggman’s things was still his favorite hobby, it wasn’t.
He was tired.
So, so tired.
His back hurt from years of fighting, his mind tapped out mid-battle and only tapped back in when everything was over, he was always worried about his friends, and he couldn’t keep dealing with all these world ending threats—there were so many of them!
And yeah, he liked his rivalry with Eggman, it was fun and all, but…
It was getting old now. He was getting old now. He couldn’t keep doing this. He still ruined the metal creations that had been released today, the attack light enough that it felt like Eggman was simply sticking to routine now, fighting for the sake of fighting. But that’s just it—it was lighter today. He could think today, his defense and attack against badniks muscle memory now, as simple as walking was.
So he let himself think, tune the murder of metal out, indulged in a few stray thoughts since it was just him fighting, no other souls to protect or worry about, unless you counted surrounding wildlife.
And he had some new thoughts.
He thought about his life, spent doing one singular thing—fighting Eggman, fighting aliens, fighting, defending, saving, protecting, its all he did.
He thought about morals—his morals. They were simple, straightforward, heroic in all terms.
No Killing. Ever.
Today. That would change.
