The Moon & All Its Tides

Summary:

After Sasuke told Naruto of his plans to become the Hokage, the two fought briefly, and eventually fell unconscious. Sasuke came to before Naruto did, and as he gazed upon the man’s face, bruised and bleeding and bright, he realized he did not have what it took to sever this one last bond. At least not yet.
But he would.
Sasuke realized that, in his absence, he had missed a large portion of Naruto’s life. And while the absence would continue, Sasuke’s ignorance would not. He used to know everything about his arch nemesis, and now, years later, he would learn it all again. The schedule of Naruto’s every day, his favorite moves and counter moves, everything that made him relax, and everything that made him tick. Sasuke would make the man his mission. He’d demote Naruto from his only friend to a stranger, and later to a goal.
And when he’d be desensitized to everything Naruto was, he’ll successfully have made him nothing more than a whisper in the wind.
The moment Naruto means nothing is the moment when killing him will no longer prove to be difficult. It’ll surely be effortless. Just like growing is to grass. Like breathing is to a human.
Like moving tides is to the Moon.

Notes:

This is my first ever work on AO3 - I have been resurrected from wattpad fanfic author death after 10 years fwehhhh. It's kinda scary to have your work out there for anybody to see after so long.
I have seen OG Naruto and Shippuden like a billion times, but do not remember jack shit. Perhaps this is character assassination, perhaps not. I think Sasuke can be rlly pathetic if ur heart is whimsical enough. But really I just wanted an excuse to get them to do the nasty. English is not my first language + I'm acespec so I apologize for any mistakes, inaccuracies and mischaracterizations!! Follow me on twt @ shineyybean if u wanna know about my next fics or suggest ideas or be moots!

Naruto licked his fingers clean. Carefully, one by one. He did not forget to reach the base, either.

The dango he’d gotten in the nearby town must have been sweet and sticky, all things considered. He’d spent his day traveling on foot through the Land of Rivers and set up camp just short of the border with the Land of Fire after paying a visit to the Kazekage for a few days. On a strictly business matter.

Or at least so nagged Sasuke’s conscience, watching the scene from his cozy tree-branch nearby.

Sasuke’s conscience had a lot to say, unnecessarily so, considering the sight in front of him at the given time.

As many days, months, years before at this point, the spy had spent his day entirely with Naruto—unbeknownst to him, of course—and had followed his every annoying, boring, selfless action. Sasuke had watched Naruto leave the minshuku that morning, after helping the family clean up, naturally, and set course for the border. On his way, he’d talked to multiple locals about the issues they were currently facing, assuring them that no task had been too big or small for him. The townsfolk, some moved, some exhausted, some teary-eyed, all took his words to heart, and thus did the yellow-haired hero do whatever was needed of him on his way out.

As he did every. Single. Day.

Location seemed to be of little importance to Naruto. Wherever he was at the moment, he never failed to make himself helpful from sunup to sundown. Such was his way to glory.

Sasuke’s been working on how agitated it made him, the savior complex Naruto had carried with him seemingly since birth. After all, any sign of strong emotion towards the man meant that Sasuke was not ready to deal the final blow yet.

And boy, had he tried to do so. Many times.

Usually in the dead of the night, for Sasuke had taken a liking to shadows. They made his job a lot easier in many ways. It was not cowardly, he’d always told himself as he’d stand above Naruto’s unconscious body lying in whatever bed it found itself in. He snored a lot, and Sasuke had learned after only a few days of observing the man that a train wreck could not wake him up if it tried.

It was not cowardly to kill him in his sleep.

It only simplified the task; Not looking into those giant, vibrant blue eyes allowed Sasuke to push forward with the plan. As he’d promised himself he would.

Perhaps he was a little bit of a control freak, and maybe that was the reason he’d not been able to follow through just yet. He’d always been obsessed with optimizing the process, any process, really.

Whatever he was doing, he would either do perfectly, or he would not bother with it at all. If he could not follow instructions to the T, why was he even alive?

There was no worth in half-assing things to Sasuke. He’d always been a man of extremes, a man of absolutes, and he would not have it any other way.

Naruto would have been dead by now, were that not the case. But every time Sasuke silently unsheathed his blade and hovered it over the man’s exposed neck…

The smallest, tiniest pang of guilt pinched the back of his mind. It was guilt, he was sure, not sorrow, nor pain or longing. Just guilt, plain and simple and easy to explain away, considering Sasuke had watched hundreds, if not thousands of hours of live footage of Naruto pouring himself empty for everyone around him.

To Sasuke’s own frustration, it never felt right, mercilessly taking the life of someone so pure.

So he’d draw back every time and scold himself rigid with nightly training so rough it left his body all kinds of shades of red and purple and yellow. If he could not teach himself discipline and indifference empirically, he would do it the old way, and beat it into himself .

The part of following Naruto’s every breath came to Sasuke naturally, which should not bother him as much as it did. But the Sun-and-Moon-y-ness of it all grated at his every nerve. Grated him almost as much as the fact that some nights he’d lose track of his counterpart and spend hours looking for him.

Naruto’s life was pretty straightforward and easy to chart for the most part - sleep, eat (occasionally spoiled) (at his grown age?!) food, go on missions, count up his sad excuse for coins, scrape just enough together to go to Ichiraku every now and again. If he was in Konoha at the time, he’d go out drinking with his annoying friends (only if they’d offer to pay), and once a week, he would spend the afternoon at the graveyard, dusting off the stones and leaving fresh flowers in his wake. Sasuke had him mapped out through and through, and was it not for a select few instances, he could even say he knew the man better than himself.

But those select few instances had always bothered him.

Instances when Naruto would just wander out of his humble abode and into the woods in the middle of the night with no apparent reason or intent. He’d just stand up, find a random place to sit or hover, and do that for an unchartable amount of time. After it had happened a few times already, Sasuke had decided to chalk it up to a dangerous form of sleepwalking, which Naruto was prone to, though usually in simple ways, like grabbing something from the fridge or talking in his sleep.

This night’s camp reminded him of those ‘sleep-walking’ episodes. A small clearing surrounded by tall trees with lush tops full of rustling leaves. The sound must have been calming to him, Sasuke thought.

One of many thoughts he conjured up to shoo away the abundant filth already in his mind at the sight of Naruto finishing up his seemingly very enjoyable dinner. Sasuke shifted on the tree branch, shimmying, suddenly uncomfortable but hell-bent on getting through the night as previously planned.

He was fine. Tonight was the night. In the morning, Naruto’s body would wash up on the shore of the river not too far from the Fire Temple and everyone would think he’d been captured by terrorists on his way back from his Kazekage summons.

The Kazekage…

Sasuke could feel a droplet of sweat run down his spine at the simple memory from just a few nights ago, of Naruto entering Gaara’s residence late in the evening and not emerging until dawn. No wonder he’d gone to Sunagakure on his own, with no team or backup in sight.

Sasuke was ashamed to admit he’d used his Sharingan to study Naruto in the morning, ashamed to admit he’d noticed the pinkish-purple bruise just above Naruto’s jacket collar, and definitely too ashamed to admit that it made him feel things, that it made him feel anything at all.

While Sasuke fussed and agonized, Naruto had long wrapped up his mealtime and changed into his pajamas. He crawled into his tent, leaving it unzipped as usual.

Focus, you utter waste of pure Uchiha blood, Sasuke scolded and firmly pinned his back against the tree bark, settling in. It would take Naruto about an hour and a half to fully fall asleep. It always had.

When he deemed the time to be up, Sasuke got ready. He fastened his sword, counted his shurikens, took a few deep breaths, and made his way into the clearing. His palms felt clammy underneath the fingerless gloves, but he chose to ignore it, clutching a kunai in his closed fist as he snaked into the tent.

He had to bend in half to fit comfortably, and even then there was barely enough space for the two of them together. Sasuke stepped over Naruto’s unconscious body, crouching down.

He just watched him sleep for a moment, even relaxed into the sound of his snoring, now familiar and comforting, like a lullaby. Only gently illuminated by the moonlight coming in from outside, Naruto’s hair was fair and tousled and fluffy. Probably a bit overgrown to the man’s current standards. Sasuke convinced himself he had no opinion on it, despite the slow upturning of the corner of his mouth.

Fascinating, how he’d never grown bored of this sight, after all those nights he kept watch to memorize Naruto’s internal clock. Something, somehow, always kept him teetering on the edge of interest, of entertainment. Indifferent entertainment, of course, but entertainment nonetheless.

He would not miss Naruto. He would not miss his whiskers, or his smile, or his laughter, all of which he was not partial to. He would finally realize his purpose and take his rightful place where he belonged - opposite to the rest of the world as the ultimate enemy, the one true scapegoat. And after ending the man under him, he would definitely deserve it.

He chewed off a piece of the chapped skin on his bottom lip, leaving it smooth and probably a little bloody. Fidgeting with the kunai in his hand, he squeezed his eyes shut, and once again began recounting all the things he would not miss about Naruto.

It would take him a while. Many could attest to the plethora of Naruto’s virtues. Sasuke might have been trying to kill the man, but he was not an idiot.

He was not. Though he did not even notice when the snoring had stopped. He couldn’t possibly have noticed over how noisy his mind had gotten.

“Do you intend on keeping this up for much longer, Sasuke?” a voice, a little more than a whisper, rose to his ears. “I really am quite tired.”

He could physically feel the blood drain from his face.

The tent interior suddenly drowned in orange light. Sasuke swiftly realized it was coming from the chakra manifesting in Naruto's palm, which was, thankfully, pinned under his thigh. At least for the time being.

His gaze flipped back to Naruto’s face. This time, his eyes were wide open, and they were looking directly at Sasuke.

All the years he had spent as Naruto’s shadow, they’d not once made eye contact. Sasuke had made sure to stay concealed to the best of his abilities, and he figured he’d done good work of it. Naruto spent the first year or so still looking for Sasuke, going on solo and team missions with the singular objective of finding him, but to no avail. Every lead had brought them to a dead end, and, after a while, he’d stopped, and he’d never tried again. For all he knew, for all the world knew, Sasuke could have been dead in a ditch somewhere. Those around Naruto had been fast to accept that it was time for him to move on, too.

Wherever Sasuke followed him these days, Naruto never once suspected anything, and thus never once so much as glanced in his direction.

Never having to look at Naruto’s face made Sasuke’s goal a lot more attainable. In fact, the whole plan depended on Sasuke becoming as indifferent towards Naruto as he was towards everybody else. In theory it should have been easy, but in practice, Sasuke was pretty much fucked.

And now, as those bright, cyan eyes found his own, the dam was open, and it all came rushing right back. In a single instant, he was no closer to success now than all those years ago.

Naruto’s voice still rang loud and clear in his ears. And though his tone carried disappointment and exhaustion, his eyes betrayed the tiniest bit of something else, something his counterpart did not dare find the proper word for.

Sasuke’s lips fell agape, but no sound escaped them no matter how hard he tried. He should say something. He’d definitely prepared many speeches as the months flew by, albeit he’d never gotten the opportunity to use any of them, he kept polishing nonetheless.

It is time, Naruto. Your silly dream is over. I will realize my purpose.

And yet, he remained silent.

Naruto lifted his left eyebrow in what seemed to Sasuke like bewildered amusement. The blood came pooling back into his cheeks.

“What’s wrong? After all these years spent in solitude, you forgot how to speak, too? I mean, no wonder, you’ve lost all your manners completely! You used to be so proper, Sasuke. But now? How shameful. Haven’t bothered to say hi once! Or knock, for that matter.”

In what was adding up to become one of the lowest lows of Sasuke’s life, he still had not mustered up a single coherent reply.

“You know, once they find my body, they’ll know it was you, and nothing good awaits you after that whole thing goes down.”

Sasuke knew better, but now he almost burst out laughing. He’d monitored and eavesdropped on enough of Naruto’s conversations to know he’d been granted full immunity by the Sixth, so it was easy to call his bluff.

“Bullshit,” he spat, saliva flying from his mouth and landing somewhere on Naruto’s cheek. He pushed the blade against his throat again, grip firmer this time.

Wow, Sasuke, he scolded himself, of all of your first words, that’s what you’re going with? Real smooth.

“Do it, then,” Naruto breathed shakily, but not breaking eye contact for even a split second. “Slice me open. Beat me till I’m bruised and bloody. Gut me until I’m unrecognizable. I don’t care, Sasuke, but you have to quit stalling.”

Naruto was right. Sasuke knew that he was right, which made this whole shitshow even worse. His own victim enticing him to go in for the kill! He used to be not only capable, but a merciless killer. And now, here he was, a pathetic excuse for the glorious warrior that used to look back at him from the mirror.

This entire thought process angered him, and so he grabbed Naruto’s chin and yanked it to the side with one hand, pushing the kunai snug against the smoothness of his throat with the other. The blade pierced skin and drew some blood. Sasuke’s eyes flipped from the crimson droplets to his victim’s face and he noticed the pink tint on Naruto’s face, the flushed plumpness of his parted lips, the shadow dancing over his hooded eyes as he observed Sasuke.

His own heart skipped a beat at the sheer erotic familiarity of it. Of how electric Naruto felt underneath his fingers. A feeling he’d attempted to escape, but could never quite outrun.

The dark-haired man bolted away, yeeting the kunai straight through the tent’s thin fabric and somewhere into the woods. He fell on his ass by the tent’s entrance.

Fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuck. This was not happening, it just couldn't have been.

Sasuke needed to put some distance between them, and he needed to do it fast.

“Fight me,” he said without thinking. “Just taijutsu. No fancy techniques, no funny business. I want to see you in combat one last time before it’s over.”

Naruto, who’d not so much as moved an inch since Sasuke bolted away, smiled first before getting caught in a fit of laughter.

“That’s it? All these years of you following me around like a sad little lap dog, after you’d laughed at me for doing the very same our whole life, mind you, you want to fight me? Now? Oh, you are unbelievable, Sasuke,” the yellow-haired man huffed and puffed with feigned aggravation, but stood up from his sleeping mat anyway, making his way outside, leaving Sasuke behind. Like he just needed to bitch about it a little before complying.

Sasuke’s brain finally seemed to regain some of its computing power now that they were not conjoined at the hips anymore, and Naruto’s words suddenly hit him like the power of twenty Rasengans all at once. The lack of any surprise dawned on him. He’d been so calm since the beginning of their encounter, and here Sasuke was, losing the last of his marbles.

“Wait! You knew this entire time?!” he shrieked, scrambling to his feet to run after him. “And you never said anything?!”

Naruto was rewrapping his wrists in bandages now, stretching and flexing his fingers.

“Not the whole time. I did genuinely look for you for a while, but that was a long time ago.” He sighed and took position like the highly trained fighter he was.

“So how did you find out, then? Does anybody else know?! ” Sasuke retorted, mirroring him. He was not about to embarrass himself any further by presenting sloppy form, but the look Naruto gave him suddenly made him feel tiny.

Brows furrowed, arched down the middle of his forehead, Naruto’s grimace was unreadable, but felt like a punch to the gut. Like he was saying You don’t wanna know.

“Nobody knows,” he whispered, and instead of answering the rest, he struck first.

Within heartbeats, they became a storm of arms and legs, punches and kicks. One charged, the other dodged. It was all so disgustingly easy, because Sasuke had spent years studying Naruto, had gotten acquainted with how he talked, how he moved, how he fought, and predicting what he’d do next felt more like a child’s game rather than a life-and-death situation.

On the other hand, Naruto just seemed to remember his invader’s tactics. No matter the two had not seen eye to eye in ages; Every little detail of Sasuke stayed carved in his memory like a loveheart forever immortalized in the bark of a tree.

Sasuke’s fists managed to connect a few times, and he was quite pleased with the hits he got in. Naruto was not falling behind, though, and he managed to break skin, too. His forehead was bleeding, but Sasuke could feel the warm liquid on his own cheek, too.

Soon, they became horizontal again. Sasuke swept Naruto’s feet and pinned him to the ground again, by his own making this time. Straddling his waist with his thighs, he punched Naruto in the jaw once, and Naruto took it without a single sign of discomfort.

“Come on!” Sasuke yelled,  inexplicably irritated and teary eyed. “Give me everything you’ve got!”

He was getting heated now, his hand twitching for the sword on his hip, he just wanted this torture to finally be over.

Naruto must have noticed, because instead of going along with Sasuke’s wish, he’d nod towards Sasuke’s wrist stuck in a spasm.

“Go on. Hold it up. You seemed to enjoy it before. I won’t stop you.”

Sasuke didn’t know why he obliged, but he did. The blade sang as he unsheathed it, and the sheer size of it reflected the moonlight onto Naruto’s skin as the metal rested against his throat. The dark-haired man went utterly quiet, his mouth both desert-dry and full of sand all at once.

Naruto peered up at Sasuke again, and this time, the latter could read his emotion just fine—fascination, expectation, exhaustion, though not entirely physical.

“Does that feel good?” asked Naruto, and Sasuke could feel his hot breath on the skin of his hand. “This… illusion of having a splinter of control over the situation? Does it get you off?”

There was no malice in the question, and yet, the subtext of it appalled Sasuke. He’d worked so hard for so long to turn all those feelings off. Why could Naruto still see them all so clearly?

“What the fuck is wrong with you?!” Sasuke barked, flustered and all worked up by the inquiry. The man underneath him was not taking this seriously at all!

“With me? I’ve waited for you to talk to me for years, and you ask me what’s wrong? I’m done playing the cat and mouse game, Sasuke. That’s what’s up. So either kill me, and do it right now, or so help me gods, but I’m dragging your ass back to Konoha by the hair for all I care.”

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you.” Sasuke breathed, and it was more of an observation than a question. For how bad of an overthinker he was, he definitely underthought this one. He could not help attempting to take a jab at Naruto in return like he always used to, even after ages have passed.

“And what, pray tell, is that supposed to mean, Sasuke?” Naruto cocked his head to the side, bottom lip pouting slightly. He was actually ridiculing him right now! The nerve of him, along with the way he pronounced his name again, so soft and sensual and loaded with meaning.

“Shut up!” Sasuke howled, hurling the blade to the side as he sat up straighter, gripping Naruto’s throat in both hands, leaning back slightly. “How’d you find out, then? About me following you, I mean.”

Any confidence on the man’s face dissipated all at once. Now he couldn’t even meet Sasuke’s gaze, though he urged him by pressing on his throat harder until he finally opened his mouth.

“I—” he began, then stopped, then gulped once really hard.

“I heard you that one night. On the balcony. I mean—I’ve heard you multiple times, after that, but…” Naruto trailed off and Sasuke’s entire skeleton went rigid as a wave of shame baptised him from head to toe.

He was transported to all those nights when he’d overstayed even a spy’s welcome, and had witnessed Naruto in midst of activities he had most definitely not been privy to.

He thought of how those very nights had led him the most astray from his plan. Sasuke remembered all the gritted sheets, could recall every sound Naruto would make as he wrung himself dry in his bedroom. He could remember having his spine glued to the wall of the balcony which neighbored said bedroom. Could basically still taste the copper of his blood from biting his cheek so hard as to not whimper and moan in pure agony, his own cock rock hard in his hand as he’d listen to Naruto’s melodic voice repeating Sasuke’s name over and over through clenched teeth. Before he could stop himself, he recalled the dreams these voyeuristic sessions brought him, and not-so-subtle subsequent fantasies he’d always convinced himself did not exist, those in which Naruto took Sasuke in his fox form, wild and unrestrained, his claws hooking on Sasuke’s hips as he’d pound into him with a force backed by what felt like the strongest chakra in the world.

What the fuck, he thought, stop remembering things right this instant, Sasuke!

But that, unfortunately, only made him remember it all harder.

Many of those moments, when Sasuke had caught Naruto pleasuring himself, were too much, were definitely a lot more than what he’d signed up for originally. Especially the nights when Naruto called on him, moaned, wailed, whimpered for him. It took all of Sasuke’s restraint not to walk right in, kiss his tears away, apologize profusely over and over and over, before getting on his knees and showing Naruto just how sorry he really was.

So he did his best to do anything but.

It could have been any of those nights. Sasuke must have slipped, maybe even more than once, his voice must have been louder than he’d thought would be audible. And that meant, whatever night years ago it had happened, Naruto had then become aware of Sasuke’s presence all the nights that followed.

And while Sasuke, reprimanding himself for the pervert he was, had been getting off watching from a safe distance, believing Naruto to have had no idea about his presence, Naruto had been on the other side of the wall doing the very same.

“Yeah,” Naruto chuckled sadly at the sight of Sasuke's agonized expression as a wave of shame and unwanted arousal assaulted him. “I figured you wouldn’t wanna know I knew. At least not like that. After a while, I figured I would give you the opportunity to do it on your own timing and talk to me yourself. Hell, even attack me yourself, really. I gave you ample openings! But you never seemed to take the bait.”

He could likely see the utter bafflement on Sasuke’s face, who’d loosen up on the grip on his throat completely by now, and so Naruto took it upon himself to explain some more.

“All those times I went to the forest on my own? In the middle of the night? I was giving you the perfect murderous opportunity or whatever. What—” he stuttered, laughing at Sasuke’s wide-open eyes, probably. “What did you think I was doing?”

“Sleepwalking? The fuck do I know about what you were doing?! It was my best guess,”

At this point, Naruto started fully laughing, probably waking up and shooing away all the animals in the forest.

“Fuck, Sasuke, I thought I was supposed to be the dumb one. You were spying on me to do what, study me? Did you learn nothing about me? I’ve been wanting you to come home. To come with me, to come to me. Did you think I was indifferent towards you this entire time? You watched me fuck my hand, along many other dubious surfaces, your name glued to my lips, your body entirely a figment of my own imagination, just to get a sliver of the concept you out of my system. It was not the first time I did it when you saw it yourself, either. It took me a moment to realize what all those years chasing after you meant to me. The kind of feelings it brought me, I mean. But when I knew, it was over for me.”

No, no, no, this was going all wrong! Sasuke could feel his plan disintegrating underneath his fingertips. His first response was to attempt to come up with a vile remark, or maybe he could just flip Naruto off. Anything was better than what ended up coming out of his mouth.

“What about—The Kazekage, you were just with him, and your—” the stuttering mess he became could not even finish the fucking sentence. Instead, he just shifted his thumb off Naruto’s throat, revealing the love bruise that had filled him with so much jealousy.

That was what it was. Now that he had no way of stopping himself from admitting it, it was clear as day.

Noticing the source of Sasuke’s discombobulation, Naruto smiled then, and this time, it was smug and earnest.

“He came onto me, and I imagined it was you for a moment, since I knew you were somewhere nearby, so it was easy to get lost in the moment. But I couldn’t go through with it. Because I knew you were somewhere nearby.”

This left Sasuke absolutely lost for words. He caught himself dissociating before Naruto could deal the final verbal blow, looking somewhere to a point next to Naruto’s head planted on the ground. Anywhere but directly at him.

“So now here I am, at your mercy. Do with me as you wish, if you still intend on clinging to your ridiculously idiotic plan. But do it now. I will not let you run away from me again just because you’re scared of facing me, or yourself, your past, or whatever it is that’s been driving you absolutely nutso.”

The way Naruto was looking at Sasuke was the very thing driving him nutso, currently, among many other things. His thoughts were now just a garbled pile of good-for-nothing trash, and all he could focus on was the unexpected sturdiness of Naruto’s body underneath him. They were both swimming in sweat at this point. Naruto’s ridiculous pajama shirt was soaked through and covered in grass from lying on the ground for so long. Sasuke’s turtleneck was thin and therefore drenched too, the moisture already seeping into the tunic layered on top. He could feel his long hair sticking to his forehead, and fuck, who knew how long he’s had this embarrassingly raging boner. Only then did he become painfully aware of how it was digging into Naruto’s hip. If Naruto had noticed, he was definitely very good at showing no sign of his disconcertment.

“So? Which one will it b—”

Before he could even put a proper question mark at the end of his sentence, Sasuke’s body was thinking, moving, and acting on its own. He moved his palm over Naruto’s mouth, keeping the other on his throat still. He could feel the cartilage moving underneath, and for some reason, it caused warmth to pool all the way down in Sasuke’s underbelly. He slid his ass down Naruto’s stomach and holy shit, the man under him was just about as riled up as he was. Just sitting on him like this, fully clothed and uncomfortably filthy, convinced Sasuke that he could bust a load right then and there, had he allowed himself to.

Which he would not.

He shifted more, and this time, the two made contact where it really mattered. Naruto groaned, and Sasuke pressed harder on his lips to muffle the sound. He himself bit his lower lip, drawing blood, but not being particularly concerned by it. He watched as he dragged his own hips up and down Naruto’s, and his eyes stung of tears purely present from the monumental task of keeping his mouth shut at the sight.

Finally he looked over to Naruto to see his head tipped back, having had fully given himself to the moment. His eyes were shut, and his breathing quickened as he inhaled and exhaled through his parted lips.

Seeing it was like a slap to the face to Sasuke, an awakening of sorts, to see the unexpected fruits of his unhinged labor grinding into him with pure, unfiltered pleasure. An obscene testament to Naruto’s terrifying, unending, unconditional devotion.

He’d go along with just about anything, as long as Sasuke was setting the course.

Despite the physical pain it caused him, Sasuke disconnected their bodies momentarily, hovering in the air while Naruto’s hips still chased him, desperate for more of the friction, for more of Sasuke.

The dark-haired man let go of his mouth, which Naruto used immediately.

“Come back,” he rasped, a plea concealed in the gentle command.

Sasuke shook his head. This was insanity. “We should stop. Someone will hear. Or see. We’re in the middle of the woods, for crying out loud.”

Naruto wrestled his arms from underneath Sasuke and reached for him. The latter evaded the touch at first, attempting to leave, but the efforts did not last him very long.

Naruto caught his wrist in his hand, his grip firmer than Sasuke would have expected. Maybe it would even leave a bruise. The thought aroused him further, making it all a hundred times more difficult.

I will not let you run away from me again

Those were Naruto’s words from just a moment ago, and he was making good on his promise. Or so it seemed.

“Then let them hear, Sasuke. Let them see all the things I wish to show you,” Naruto quipped, his voice cracking deliciously.  Sitting up, he was steadily planted to the ground now.

“Enough is enough. I can see in your eyes that the wheels are turning again. Turn them off for just a second. Let go. Let me take you where you belong.”

It was easier said than done, usually, but the way Naruto’s calloused fingers stroked his wrist made quick work of his protest. Nothing made sense to him anymore, clearly he’d been wrong about absolutely everything up to this point. He’d grown tired of the unknown, tired of fucking up the exploring part of being in the unknown.

He would instead let the unknown explore him this time, see if it would like him any better.

He let Naruto pull him onto his lap, groins closer than ever before to properly pick up where they left off. It didn’t take long until Sasuke could not hear his thoughts over his own moans if he tried. Foreheads touching, they both stared at the disaster of a situation they were creating down there, which only made them both a lot louder.

If they should not be doing this, why did it feel so godsdamn good?

“Fuck. This is c-crazy,” Sasuke moaned, head falling back in a mix of agony and pleasure before resting his bleeding cheek on Naruto’s lips. Once he vocalized a singular thing, he could not shut the fuck up for the life of him. Gods, his underpants were an absolute mess, too. The sticky wetness made it all feel so much more embarrassing and so, so much more pleasurable.

He could feel Naruto’s lips spread in a smile. He began quickening their rhythm.

“There you go. Turn your mind off,” Naruto whispered into his skin, burying his hands in Sasuke’s hair. “Look how well you’re doing. All the noises you’re making for me. It’s gotta feel really good, right?”

Sasuke impressed himself, being able to discern the question as rhetoric in the heat of the moment. But it did feel good. Better than good, it felt great. So great he clawed at Naruto’s back now, desperately trying to reach the hem of his shirt so he could pull it over his head and discard it into the night.

When Naruto caught wind of what was happening, he put a hand on Sasuke’s chest, pushing him away a little, stopping the delicious tides of overwhelming sensation.

An involuntary whimper escaped Sasuke’s lips, and he caught a glimpse of Naruto’s smile from underneath the nasty shirt he was pulling over his head. He chucked it to the side, and Sasuke became painstakingly aware of the saliva pooling in his mouth as he stared at his bare chest.

He’d seen it before, naturally, it came with the task. But never from this up close.

He gazed at the scars that covered Naruto’s muscles like moles in number, dragging his hand down each of them until he reached the seal on his stomach. Sasuke had an inexplicable urge to kiss it, to lick and bite all over his chest, in fact.

Naruto studied him smugly, and when Sasuke’s hand started traveling even more down south, he pulled away.

“Uh-uh,” he shook his head, “not fair. I want to see, too. God, I haven't seen you in so long. Please let me see,” he breathed hoarsely, flexing his jaw.

“Since when do you wear so many clothes, anyway?! You used to prance around practically naked. And then you’d have the gall to think I’ve felt nothing for you.”

Sasuke’s cheeks heated up lightly, but he said nothing. Naruto wasn’t necessarily wrong. He had worn what he had back then for the singular purpose of Naruto noticing, and knowing it had worked its magic emboldened him, too.

He looked directly into Naruto’s eyes and started undoing his tunic button after button with a vicious slowness and precision. Naruto’s gaze shifted then, from bright and excited to something dark and feral. He sat back, watching intently, digging his long fingers into the grass.

Sasuke finally shook the tunic off. Dropping it gently onto the ground, he revealed his lean, muscular shoulders, and the bottom of his stomach also peaked out of his cropped, turtleneck tank top. His skin must have looked silver in the pale moonlight.

Naruto sucked his bottom lip in, then reached for Sasuke again with a smirk.

“Right. So, still as slutty as I remember."

Sasuke could not wait anymore, and so he closed the distance between them. Throwing himself on Naruto, he linked their lips at once, not asking for permission.

The first proper kiss they’ve ever shared.

Naruto did not hesitate, either. He kissed Sasuke like it was all he’d ever wanted to do with his time, parting Sasuke’s lips with his tongue to take possession of his mouth. The latter did not care to deny him access, and soon, their tongues danced in unison, as did their bodies, grinding on one another so hard they kept moaning into each other’s teeth.

As if instinctively, Sasuke reached down in between them, finding his way from Naruto’s seal down to the waistband of his pajama pants.

Naruto smiled into him, but did not stop kissing.

“So. Fucking. Greedy,” he quipped between kisses, but still allowed Sasuke to pull the waistband down, pull his rigid cock out and grip it like his life depended on it.

Sasuke estimated his brain turned to mush the moment he held Naruto’s full length in the palm of his hand. He pumped it once, twice, and was pretty sure he came in his briefs that very second. It mattered little to him; Sasuke had never been so aroused in his life, and he doubted the sensation would evade him anytime soon. He did not stop moving his hand, but he did begin plotting on how to get the monstrosity down his throat within the next few heartbeats. Otherwise, he feared he could die from the vital need.

“I said, not fair,” Naruto reprimanded gently, and before the man could protest, began fumbling with Sasuke’s belt buckle.

“This has to be so uncomfortable,” he pouted, palming Sasuke’s damp bulge over the tight pants that, with time, have grown even tighter than either one could have anticipated. Sasuke cried then, like a dog in heat, and Naruto did not wait any longer to undo the zipper.

Sasuke’s own cock sprung out of the top of his briefs enthusiastically, as if waiting for its moment to shine, and judging by Naruto’s hypnotized expression, it must have left quite an impression, too.

“Fuck… So eager,” Naruto breathed out, the words barely discernible thanks to the trance he was in. He wrapped his palm around it, running his broad thumb up and down Sasuke’s pink-blushed head until his slit leaked even more. At this point, there was no distinguishing where one’s voice ended and the other’s started.

Naruto used his second hand to push Sasuke’s back into himself until their cocks touched. Making contact skin to skin for the first time filled Sasuke’s vision with black spots and his entire body with euphoria like he’d never thought possible. They moved in sync again, making a mess of both their bellies and all their remaining clothes.

It did not even bother Sasuke that he had no spare, not when he pushed Naruto on his back and bent down to take him into his mouth. Straddling Naruto’s thigh, he ran his tongue up and down his full length a few times first before taking him into his mouth completely.

The taste of him, saccharine and addictive, made Sasuke dizzy as he swirled his tongue around, chasing the high, craving more. Naruto was a drug, a drug Sasuke had spent ages trying to get clean from, only to fall back into him harder and faster than ever before.

Naruto hissed at the snug warmth of Sasuke’s mouth, one hand hitting the ground for support while the other was readily grabbing fistfulls of Sasuke’s hair to guide his movements.

In this moment, Sasuke let go of any last morsels of control he could possibly wish to maintain. He let Naruto fuck his mouth hard and fast while he himself rode his thigh with the same rhythm and enthusiasm.

“Sasuke—” Naruto growled when their gazes met, causing him to roll his eyes to the back of his head. “Fuck, you’re so good for me. You’re doing so well. Just like that, Sasuke. Make yourself feel good for me, too.”

He barely finished the sentence and Sasuke was already cumming, moaning uncontrollably into Naruto’s cock but unwilling to stop bobbing his head up and down. He looked to Naruto through the thick curtain of his lashes, vision rhapsodic and hazy, only to find Naruto was already watching.

It only took that one look for Naruto to start breaking under his tongue, too. He heaved and moaned and blabbered Sasuke’s name over and over, and the object of his odes eagerly devoured every droplet of Naruto’s unraveling, the sweetness of it damn-near narcotic. Sasuke did not even swallow it all before Naruto was pulling him to his mouth again, sharing the taste between the two of them.

“I’m not done with you yet,” Naruto proclaimed, chest rising and falling rapidly. “You still haven’t gotten what you came for, have you?”

“No,” Sasuke shook his head, brows furrowing in anticipation as he could feel himself getting hard again from the words alone.

“I’ll fuck you right, Sasuke,” Naruto leaned in, nibbling on his ear first and then kissing his way down his throat. “I’ll fuck you so good you’ll be begging me to take you home, until you’re screaming my name so loud everyone in the vicinity of this border thinks you’re calling for my help.”

“I would never—” Sasuke mustered up, precum dripping down his foreskin already, knowing fully well he was lying. Naruto was just in the act of sucking on the sensitive porcelain skin of Sasuke’s neck, and not doing so gently, either. Everyone would see Sasuke had been marked, whether he liked it or not.

When Sasuke’s words left his mouth, Naruto lifted his eyebrows in amusement, but did not stop going round, leaving a memoir of himself all over Sasuke’s neck. When he spoke, his breath tickled against Sasuke’s skin, sending delicious shivers down his entire body.

“Is that so?” Naruto inquired, cradling him in his arms. “How about I bet you for it?”

If there was anything Sasuke loved as much as what was happening right now, it was competition with Naruto. He did not reply, but he did whine in anticipation, which was the best he could muster against Naruto’s sharp canines grazing the cartilage of his throat.

“If I am right, you’ll go back to Konoha with me without protest. And if I am wrong, I will help you realize your nonsensical plan.”

The idea sobered Sasuke up somewhat. Yes, he nodded to himself, this was the way to get Naruto on board without having to kill him, which Sasuke was not entirely good at, as it seemed.

“I’ll give you a headstart and I’ll let you pick, then. How do you want me, Sasuke? On your back, under me? Against a tree? Or on top, perhaps?

All of the above, Sasuke almost blurted out before he stopped himself, before he seemed too excited. Which he was. But he did not want him to know that.

“Do what you want,” he spat, his fake indifference exhaustively obvious. "I won't let you win this time.”

Naruto shook his head, clearly enjoying whatever fire he lit under Sasuke. Do with him what he wanted? But certainly.

With a few quick motions of his arms, he flipped Sasuke off of him and onto his knees, ass up in the air. Sasuke did not get a chance to regret the free reign he granted Naruto, because the man did not hesitate for even a second, working Sasuke open first with his tongue, and then with his fingers.

Sasuke, face down in the grass, writhed underneath him in this delicious torment, but did not dare open his mouth. Not until Naruto reached over to start stroking Sasuke’s cock again, maintaining a perfect rhythm from all directions.

Sasuke’s eyesight truly left him this time, and he bit into his own forearm to keep himself quiet. Naruto noticed this instantly, and yanked Sasuke up by the shoulder, With the fingers of one hand still inside him, he put his other calloused, warm palm over Sasuke’s mouth to bite into.

When he complied, Naruto swiftly drew his fingers out from inside him, replacing them with the warm, throbbing length of himself. He pushed in steadily, but did not do so roughly or all at once. Not at all, in fact. Only when Naruto was buried in, and Sasuke fully bit down on Naruto’s hand did he realize just how empty of Naruto he had been until then.

He never wanted to be empty of him again, and were he not so blissed out, it would scare the shit out of him.

“So tight,” Naruto leaned into Sasuke’s ear, the air of his voice spreading moisture over its skin, “you’re so fucking tight for me, aren’t you, Sasuke?”

The dark-haired man attempted to shake his head, but at that moment, Naruto decided to withdraw a little and push back gently again. Sasuke gritted his teeth over Naruto’s palm, and he could taste blood. If Naruto was in pain, Sasuke had no idea.

Then, when Sasuke settled with the fulfilling sensation ringing through his entire body, his counterpart pulled out fully. Sasuke whirred his head around in shock, but he did not have to wait long to understand why it was happening.

Naruto thrust into him fully now, all at once, hitting his prostate, and Sasuke’s eyes welled with tears from the pure exaltation he was experiencing. He’d never been into faith, but he reckoned this must have been the closest to a religious experience he would ever get.

“I’ve thought about doing this so many times,” Naruto whispered, his breaths audible and delightful as he repeated the action. Out. In. Connect. Repeat. Over and over again. “When you first caught me, I’d been thinking of fucking you splayed open for me on the kitchen counter. The next time you were there to see it, I knew of your presence, and I was hoping so much that you’d sense how much I wanted you to be there. I was so close to walking out onto the balcony and fucking some sense into you right then and there for all Konoha to see, making you forget all about your stupid purpose.”

Sasuke couldn't take it anymore. Purpose? What purpose did he ever have besides being a hole for this man behind him right now? He could not remember anymore, nor did he want to, really. Naruto was right. He did not care who could hear or see anymore. This felt so much easier, letting go of it all, so much lighter, like the weight dropped from his shoulders and now he was soaring in the sky.

He softened the clamp his teeth had on Naruto’s hand. He dropped his head back down, arching his back perfectly, and when the next thrust hit him, he was ready for it.

“Naruto,” he wailed, tears streaming down his face as he was taken apart by Naruto’s cock piece by piece. “Harder, Naruto!”

“What was that?” Naruto leaned forward, ceasing all his activity, earning a loud, disapproving cry from Sasuke. “I can’t hear you.”

“Fuck! Harder—Harder, Naruto,” the man yelped, pushing his ass out as much as he could. Endeared, Naruto chuckled, but then complied without any further ado. He drove into Sasuke like there was no tomorrow, not forgetting to stroke him all the while.

“More, Naruto! Give me more! Show me my new purpose!” Sasuke said, or at least he thought so, but he believed his speech might have been slurred by then. Naruto did not seem to mind. He switched his free hand from Sasuke’s hip onto the broad spot between his shoulder blades, pushing him even further down.

“I’ll show you anything, Sasuke. I’ll give you anything. Fuck—If you could se what I am seeing right now… You’re so beautiful. Why did you run from me for so long? We could have had so much. We still can, Sasuke. My Moon, don’t hide from me again…” He blabbered on, planting butterfly-soft kisses on Sasuke’s spine as he drove them to the finish line.

An unending wave of pleasure swept Sasuke off his feet with one last stroke, and he could faintly feel himself spilling all over Naruto’s hand. Sasuke reached for his fingers, guiding them to his mouth in a haze and sucked, prompting a loud groan from Naruto before he himself unleashed inside of Sasuke.

There was silence afterwards, cut through only by the buzz of insects and the heaves of the two drained, worn out, intertwined bodies.

Naruto flipped them over, so Sasuke could rest his weight almost entirely on Naruto, and they kissed once again, meeting in the middle. And Naruto stroked his cheek, face full of hope and longing and plea as he brushed Sasuke’s hair behind his ear.

“You deserve a full life. A life of love and laughter and closeness, not one of constant self-flagellation and sorrow. I can show you a life that is worthy of you.”

And he sounded so earnest, voice quivering with anticipation and prospective disappointment. Sasuke was in love with him, he knew that now, so thoroughly in love it frightened him to the core of his bones, because he knew Naruto loved him back, and it would be so easy to hurt him anew.

But their eyes met again. And Sasuke could see his reflection in Naruto’s pupils before he focused on Naruto smiling down at him inquisitively, excitedly. Like he could see the whole universe somewhere on Sasuke’s face, and he would not be satisfied until he'd spent every day discovering all its hidden spots, its crevices and nooks and crannies.

That was when Sasuke found himself believing him, settling into him, breathing him in. And it was no longer difficult, in fact it all felt so easy.

It felt natural. Like…
