Chapter Text
Olivia opened her eyes to bright lights. It takes her a minute to realize where she is. She’s currently drooling all over her paperwork. She looks up to see Elliot watching her and she immediately stiffens.
“What?” She asks sounding annoyed.
“Nothing. You got a little…” he trails off and points to the corner of his mouth. She feels her cheeks burn as she wipes the little bit of drool from the corner of her mouth.
“Dream about anything good?” He asks but before she can answer Cragen comes out of his office saying that they caught a case.
When they are done taking statements they head back to the station. The drive is silent as she stares at his hands on the wheel. She shouldn’t notice how his big his hands are and she especially shouldn’t wonder what those hands would feel like on her body. She can’t help it though it’s been 10 years of this push and pull and she’s found herself staring at him more often recently.
“Liv?” He asks, breaking her out of her trance.
“Hm?” She replies.
She looks over to her and studies her face. It’s then that she notices the car is parked.
“What’s going on?” He asks.
“Nothing. Just tired” she quick to reply but he can tell she’s lying. He just nods and gets out of the car. She sighs before doing the same.
It’s later that night and the squad is out for drinks. Olivia knows that Elliot isn’t hers and that if she doesn’t get up the courage to act on her feelings he certainly never will be but the way the blonde at the bar is chatting him up while pushing her barely covered chest out towards him has her holding her glass in a death grip.
“You okay Liv?” Fin asks, and she immediately takes her eyes of Elliot and looks at Fin and Munch across from her.
“Fine” she replies and tries to join in on their conversation but she can’t help sneaking glances at Elliot and that blonde flirting with him. She knows he’s single and that he has every right to flirt and whatever else he wants but she just hates the fact that it’s not her. She thought they were on the same page after his divorce but the timing just wasn’t right. At least that’s what she tells herself.
He’ll never see you that way a little voice in her head says. There’s too much at stake.
She doesn’t notice him turning down the blonde and grabbing their drinks before returning to their table.
He sets the drinks down and immediately joins in on Fin and Munch’s conversation. After a while he leans in close to her and quietly asks her what’s wrong.
“Nothing” she replies careful not to let her jealously show.
“Liv. You can talk to me. You know that right?” He replies.
“I know, El” she replies and he nods but looks slightly frustrated with her not telling him what’s bothering her.
A few drinks later Munch and Fin call it a night and they all say goodbye to each other, leaving just Elliot and Olivia.
“Let me walk you home?” He asks and she smiles and nods but the smile seems forced. He takes it as small win that she didn’t tell him to leave her alone so he pays their tab and walks her out of the bar.
They walk in silence most of the way to her place until he speaks up.
“Did I do something?” He asks her, vulnerability showing in his voice.
“What? No.” She replies and hopes he’ll drop it because if he keeps pestering her she’s just going to shut him up by kissing him and finally acting on her feelings that have been building for the last 10 years.
“Then what?” He asks, voice louder. They reach her apartment building and she turns to look at him.
“What do want me to say! That I can’t stand watching you keep running back to your wife! I hate that you want everyone except me! I can’t keep pretending I don’t want you!” She yells in response. Her anger surprises him but he quickly recovers from it and that’s when he processes. The words she said.
They stay staring at each other and just before she can turn around and huff a goodnight to him he speaks.
“Then don’t” he says.
“What?” She asks, her brain not computing his words.
“Don’t pretend anymore because I’m tired of pretending to. I’m tired of pretending that I don’t want YOU.” He emphasizes the word “you”.
“I go back to Kathy because she’s familiar and once upon a time I loved her and I don’t go out with anyone else because they’ll never be you.” He continues.
She stands there in shock.
“Liv?” He asks as he steps towards her.
“El. Kiss me” she replies and he does.
The second their lips touch sparks ignite. Just as she deepens the kiss it starts raining.
They pull apart and she starts laughing causing him to smile.
“That's too cliche” she giggles.
“Eh. It’s kind of perfect” he replies with a grin.
“Let’s just go inside” she replies with a playful roll of her eyes. She grabs his hand and leads him inside her building.
