Work Text:
Izuku was born with one lilac eye and one green eye. A trait that either indicated heterochromia or the fact that his soulmate was older than him, though it was typically the latter. That gave Izuku hope while he grew up, that he truly did have a soulmate regardless of what the others said, especially since no one in his family had lilac eyes nor was heterochromia in their genes.
He grew, met All Might, started attending U.A. as a heroics student and finally, after what felt like an eternity, met his soulmate. At least, who he thinks is his soulmate as it wouldn’t be confirmed until they kissed, but Shinsou’s green eye matched Izuku’s perfectly and vice versa with Izuku’s lilac one.
They got to know each other, and over time Izuku started to feel genuine romantic feelings for the boy. Yes, they were possibly soulmates, but there was just something about Shinsou that drew him in. He didn’t have time to dwell on it much though, unfortunately, as fate seemed to want Izuku and his class dead with the league of villains targeting them.
It wasn’t until Izuku was forcefully brought back to U.A. by his class after the paranormal liberation war and leaving to keep all of them safe that things changed with Shinsou. There had always been some kind of invisible wall between them that Izuku couldn’t break no matter how hard he tried, but when he came back Shinsou seemed almost warm(?) to him.
Izuku was tired, so very tired, but once he was bathed and had a nap, he was cornered by Shinsou in his dorm room for a conversation he felt like he should have known was coming after the note he left the boy but wasn’t expecting quite yet.
“So, you were quirkless?” Shinsou muttered, waving said note a reminder of what his class and Shinsou now knew.
“I still am, from a medical standpoint.” Izuku replied, leaning his head on Shinsou’s shoulder from where they sat on the floor with their backs propped against Izuku’s bed. “All Might gave me his quirk when I was fourteen, and I didn’t activate it till the day of the entrance exam. So my cover story wasn’t quite a lie, but it wasn’t the full truth either.”
Shinsou hummed, almost contemplating. “And the other part of your note, does that still stand?” He asked, turning his head towards Izuku and using his hand to tilt the other boys head up so they were looking eye to eye.
“It does,” Izuku whispered, licking his lips nervously but noting the way Shinsou’s eyes followed the action. “I do still like you, Shinsou, romantically I mean.”
“I like you too, romantically.” Shinsou whispered in turn, pressing their foreheads together gently. “I have for a while, but I never said anything because there felt like there was something keeping me at an arms length. I don’t know if it was my self-esteem issues, or something you were doing, but it seems to be gone now.”
Izuku hummed, “I felt the same, it was like there was an invisible wall separating us.” He said, verbalizing his thoughts from earlier in the year. “But I agree, it seems to be gone.”
“Can I kiss you?” Shinsou asked, voice still quiet, almost like if he spoke any louder the moment would shatter.
“Please,” Izuku replied, letting his eyes close as Shinsou easily complied and closed the remaining distance between them. It was a little clumsy, being both of their first kisses, but it was good in a way Izuku didn’t know how to explain.
They separated, Izuku keeping his eyes closed for another moment as they just breathed in each others spaces before he opened them to find both Shinsou’s lilac eyes staring at him.
“Beautiful soulmate,” Shinsou murmured, tucking some of Izuku’s curls behind his ear. “I had my suspicions, but this confirmed it.”
Izuku cracked a small smile at that, “I had mine as well, as I’ve never met someone with such pretty lilac eyes before you.”
Shinsou blushed at the compliment, a light pink that was so stark against his pale skin that Izuku noticed easily, choosing not to comment.
“I want you to be my boyfriend, if that’s okay with you.” Shinsou asked, verbalizing the question on both of their minds.
“Yeah, I’d like that, Hitoshi.” Izuku said, testing the boys first name on his tongue.
“Then it’s settled, Izuku.” Shin- Hitoshi doing the same in turn to the green-haired boy.
Izuku smiled, tapping their foreheads together one more time before pulling out of the boys space. “Now, you wanna help me get caught up on the school work I missed while I was out?”
“Sure,” Hitoshi replied, not letting Izuku get far before intertwining their fingers. “I can’t help much with English though.”
