Work Text:

"Hi Mom! How has your day been going?"

"Lisa! Sweetheart! It's so good to see you again! I’m just finishing up breakfast. Come in! Have a seat! Can I get you anything? Tea? Coffee? Something to eat?"

"No thanks, I already had breakfast. I’m just dropping in to chat and see if you need help with anything. How is your quilt coming along?"

"Oh I’m so happy to see you again! It’s been ages! Hmmm do you mean the quilt I’m making for Robin’s baby shower? I was trying to keep that a secret! But your father can be such a blabbermouth sometimes. Speaking of, I haven’t seen him all morning. Do you know where he is?"

"He’s not here right now."

“Of course he’s out. Can you text him and ask when he’ll be back?”

“No, Mom, he - yeah. I’ll do that.”
“Let me help with the dishes.”

“Oh I’m sorry I’ve upset you sweetheart… I’m just bad with technology."
"Don’t take your father’s coffee mug. He’ll want it when he gets back.”

“OK mom.”

“I wish he would remember to leave a note when he steps out. You know how I worry."
"I checked his office, and the garage too. I even went out back to see if he was gardening. And you won’t believe this, but your father’s prized petunias are gone! The flowerbeds are overgrown with nothing but weeds! Someone must have been in the garden. It was probably our new neighbor. I know Jenny never liked me. It must’ve been her."

"Jenny moved out last year. Your new neighbors are a nice Polish couple with a little white dog … I think his name is Pompom? Yeah, Pompom. He’s such a cute little bundle of fluff and gets so excited every time he sees you. I think it might be because you feed him squirts of whipped cream every time he comes around."

"Oh, I don’t … I … yes, I’m sure that sounds familiar."

"Have you seen your father around? I could use some help taking out the garbage."

"Don’t worry, I’ll do it."

“Thank you sweetie. I love you.”

“I love you too.”
