"Meet me at the skating rink in 20."
"Hugo, I can't-"
The blonde hung up before Varian could get another word in, and the blue-eyed boy rolled his eyes. Nothing like wasting a Saturday away, flip-flopping in roller-skates while Hugo of all people cackles away at Varian's athletic incompetence. Sounds very fun.
But Varian isn't the type to stand people up, and so he begrudgingly gets off his ass to get ready, contemplating what he should wear to look cool in front of Hugo.
You see, recently the younger boy has had butterflies breeding in his stomach, ones that flutter about relentlessly, specifically in the presence of a certain blonde-haired bitch, and he can't seem to find a word more fitting to the feeling than "love", hence putting him in a complicated position.
Varian fiddled with the collar of his Nirvana band-tee, as he picked up his phone to make the trek to the skating rink that was thankfully only a ten minute walk from his house.
.....
"You're late."
"By like, five minutes. Calm down." Varian grimaced at the green-eyed boy, standing with his hands on his hips.
He was more irritated now that he actually made it to the rink. Why did he come? The two of them both know Varian can't skate. Did he just come here to make a fool of himself in front of his crush?
"Well, c'mon Goggles, lets get this party started. Go grab some roller-blades, I'll meet you on the dance floor." Hugo pushed the younger boy toward the booth, and made his way toward the center of the rink, gliding with ease.
As Varian untied his shoes, he lamented at what was about to become of him. Maybe this is why Hugo called him here. To be, essentially, a clown to perform. A jester to amuse Hugo.
Hesitating, he idled around the entrance to the rink, gripping on to the side-railings like he was suffocating, and it was oxygen. He could really feel his soul slipping out of his eyes now, but not before Hugo rolled over to him.
"What's the matter, Hairstripe? Can't find your balance?" He mocked, but quickly realized that that was, in fact, the case.
In an instant, he extended his hand toward the shorter boy.
"Come dance with me." He spoke, in an attempt to help.
"Hugo I'm going to die."
"Not in my arms, you're not."
Varian blushed. What was he doing? He had an opportunity to hold Hugo's hand, he should take it!
And so, he did.
It was awkward at first, Varian desperately leaning onto Hugo while his feet slipped at every minor shift he made. At one point, he fell directly on top of the taller boy, face burning with embarrassment. But Hugo didn't mind, and eventually, they delve into a rhythm, stiffly swaying in a vague attempt to add a dance element to their skating. Varian found himself starting to ease up, comfortable in the presence of the blonde boy, and soon the two of them were having a blast.
I'm so in love with you.
Varian thought, as the two of them spun around, laughing.
I am so desperately in love with you.
