The Moth Nearly Free Of Sloth

Summary:

A character that's been rattling around in my head that needed to be let out. Might give this a few more chapters in the future.

Notes:

No, I did not mean for the title to rhyme.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Hell. Home to the worst of humanity. While their suffering was never ending, they still required a doctor to patch them up if things got a bit too… Holy.

“So why did you call me on my day off?” he said after taking a puff of his cigarette. “It’s difficult enough to keep my fuzz clean with what free time I get.” He ran a hand through his white flowing hair so that his other 2 could adjust the yellow fuzz on his antennas while the fourth continued to hold the still lit cigarette. Each hand a shimmer of gold to them. Each middle finger was encased in golden armor that extended into a scalpel-sharp point.

“We’ll pay double your usual.” A boar headed Sinner offered, slightly sweating. “Just give ‘em your magic touch, doc. Guy got pelted with A LOT of Holy shells. And might I say, your coat is looking great today.”

The doctor gave a questioning look. The coat in question twitched at being mentioned. The coat was the man’s green fuzz-covered wings. Wings that folded around him like a doctor's coat that was a size too big for him. Making him look smaller than he really was. His small stature didn’t help, either. “They’re my wings, but thanks?”

The doctor was led to a back room that held the patient. In front of him was a gun shot riddled Sinner that looked like a balding gorilla. Although, he couldn't tell if the balding started before or after he was set on fire. A Sinner resembling a monkey was pacing around the room. Obviously still shaken from the events that led to this.

The doctor let out a deep groan. He hated working on his days off. “Make it triple.” He demanded, dryly. “Can’t believe you called me for something that a bullet proof vest could have fixed. I swear, you younger gens got access to so much better quality gear than I got to use, but you never fucking use ‘em.”

His tone and the drastic price increase angered the already irritated monkey Sinner. The monkey pulled a pistol from his waist and pointed at the doctor. Who only glanced at the gun with a tired expression through his small round glasses while his lower arms crossed each other.

“You listen to me, puto! Forget the money! You better stop thinkin’ you’s hot shit an’ heal mi hermano, NOW!” To emphasize his point he pressed the barrel of his gun into the slightly shorter doctor's forehead.

The boar looked like he was about to intervene, but before he could without missing a beat the doctor’s hands were a blur. The doctor's arms became a blur. His cigarette slipped from one hand and was neatly caught by another while his upper pair seized the pistol and twisted it free with tactical efficiency. While most would stop at securing the gun and aiming it at the hostile, this was Hell. Mercy and hesitance earned you nothing here. His upper right hand held the gun in a very familiar grip while the left's armored finger was speared into the monkey’s eye.

The monkey screamed in pain that made it sound like HE was the one shot full of angelic steel. Angelic steel is far from the only way to inflict pain on a demon. Just more permanent. The monkey fell to his knees in pain. He tried to pull away from the doctor and end his pain, but a pink, fuzzy, clawed hand gripped his shirt tight. The doctor dug his finger deeper into the monkey’s eye. His once bored expression was now filled with annoyance as his sharp teeth were revealed.

“S-STOP! STOP IT! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!” The monkey begged. His remaining eye looked up into the doctor’s once black eyes. Now glowed with bright pink fire.

“You knumbskulls call me here. I tell you the cost of my time and you have the nerve to point a gun at me?!” The doctor twisted his finger slowly and painfully. The monkey was about to scream. To apologize and beg for the pain to end, but the hand that held his shirt was now gripping his mouth painfully tight. “Don’t even try talkin’ your way outta this. You're gonna sit your ass down in that corner and sit through the pain of your eye being gouged out. If I hear a peep, a snivel, outta you during my operation, I'll slice you into cuts a butcher wouldn't know how to label!” The doctor’s wings flared open and revealed a pattern of massive eyes.

Like the species his form resembled, moths had acquired many unique patterns. Several possessed ones that resembled the eyes of predators. None had the eye pattern that could drive man or demon mad if they stared too long at it.

The monkey’s remaining pupil was narrowed to a pinprick. His mind filled with his worst nightmares. Most that would now be of the demonic moth that held him in his clutches.

The doctor, seeing that his threat got through, relaxed his wings to reform his jacket over top his black dress shirt and pants. The monkey, now freed, scurred away into a corner and clutched his knees to his chest. The boar, for the first time since coming to Hell, began to silently pray to god to save him from the small moth’s wrath.

“Now then, let's start the procedure.” The doctor stood over the patient. He took a deep drag from his cigarette, till it burned to the filter. He flicked the filter away and held the smoke in his mouth for a time, before slowly blowing the now purple smoke into the dying gorilla’s face. The gorilla took deep ragged breaths as his lungs filled with lavender scented anesthetic gas. The gorilla’s once tense body relaxed. With his patient now under, pink fire erupted around his hands. The germs and blood that coated his hand were gone. Using the finger armour, he cut away the gorilla’s jacket and shirt, then began making surgical cuts. Bullet after bullet was extracted and then tossed away like trash as the doctor continued with laser focus.

Thanks to his four arms and decades of experience, the procedure was nearly 10 times faster than any human doctor could have performed. From his wrists, silver silk was spun into strong bandages imbued with magic to help the healing process.

After once again cleaning his hands with fire, he accepted the thick envelope with his payment from the still fearful boar. “He’ll be sore for a few days. Fill ‘em with pain killers or whatever his preferred feel good drug or alcohol is and he’ll be fine. As for Monkey Boy in the corner… let that be a reminder for him not to get too close to someone when wielding a firearm. Anyone worth their salt could snatch it outta his hand.”

The doctor left the 3 Sinners to heal, both physically and mentally, and went on to enjoying his day off. Hopefully, Ms.Belphegor wouldn’t need him for anything tomorrow either, but despite her love of sleep, she’s always awake enough to give him orders.

Notes:

Still working on a name for Doctor Moth. Maybe it'll be a y/n situation.
