Chapter 1: Do You Copy?

Chapter Text

Sandy wishes the ground would open up and swallow her whole. Her first day can not be ruined by a copier of all things! A copier! The machine full of paper, ink, metal, and hard plastic couldn’t possibly be more psychologically sound than she was. Taking a deep breath in through the nose, Sandy forces herself to not think about the disaster her fresh start, new beginnings morning had begun.

Throwing her arms and legs out and groaning Sandy blinked and a deep breathe turned into a yawn as the morning started. She got up, dressed, and started making her smoothie before she bothered to check her phone, seeing the time a scream unhearable to human ears left her mouth and she jerked her arm toward her face so hard that her elbow had gotten caught up on the egregiously long blender cord. And there went her fanciest outfit.

Okay, deep breaths Sandy, you can do this. Change clothes, including the socks that now have liquified peanut butter in them  -gross by the way- , run out the door and try to get to work on time

Traffic really had been awful, but Sandy was determined to get a new start to the day as soon as she stepped through those big sliding glass doors and the scent of corporate had wafted into her nostrils. But now the copier was jammed – or had run out of ink– or something! And all of the frustration building up had her geared up to Kuh-Rah-Tay chop the HECK out of this printer.

Just as her arm goes up and her muscles tense a hand wraps gently around hers and a sultry chuckle meets her ear.

“Did the printer consent to this?”

“I uh, didn’t ask?"

“You don’t ask for consent before you hit things? That’s kind of wild.” The older woman lowers their still touching hands and smiles when Sandy turns around to see who stopped her imminent violence on this foolish piece of machinery that had dared to disrespect her. As soon as Sandy lays her eyes on this woman she's going to-

Oh. Oh, oh, oh,oh,oh. Oh No.

This is the most beautiful person Sandy has ever seen. Hair slicked back into a tight but not scalp pulling bun, Handsome black suit, gold jewelry adorning her ears and neck. Sandy blinks hard and opens her eyes again, “are you like, a printer angel or something?” she asks.

“No, but you could call me angel if you like, what’s the printer mad at you for?”

Sandy pouts, “I don’t know, I just tried to make copies of this document, but maybe”, she says as a sidelong glance is thrown toward the printer before turning her head to look at The Angel, angel of all worldly printers, “You could use your angelic powers and fix that for me?”. The question is posed with involuntary batted lashes and Sandy is pleased to see the woman smile before removing the hand (they were still touching???) from her own and starting to fiddle with the screen and buttons.

A nod. “I can fix that”

The silence that follows is a short and comfortable one. Sandy gay panic-ing and the unnamed woman in front of her solving all her problems just by existing. Angelic, indeed.

Theres a hum, a small puff of air exits the copier, and the beautiful woman is handing her five copies of the sheet of paper needed. Sandy has to ask this woman to marry her. Before she can clear the cobwebs from her mouth to speak however, the woman’s eyes are back on her.

“What did you say your name was, new girl?”

“Oh, it’s Sandy. Reckon I never got around to introducing myself, thank you for saving a blind horse in a stampede, ma’am.”

The woman blinks at her southernism before giving a small smile and checking the watch on her wrist as her smile turns into a grimace.

“I’m sorry Sandy, it seems that I’m late to a meeting, but I hope to see you again soon” , and with that the taller woman swept out of the room as neatly and quickly as she’d entered it. Sandy felt herself blink against the slight breeze The Angel had managed to kick up. Odd

Taking the necessary copies back to her office, Sandy smiled a little when she realized something had finally gone right this morning.
