Work Text:
Khan was just getting off work and heading back home. Door 2 was having problems, mainly that it would make this ear-grating noise every time it closed. But with a bit of ingenuity and hard work, Khan got the problem solved. Now he was looking forward to seeing his family after a long day.
He had arrived at his family’s front door and opened it but was confused why the lights were off. He could have sworn Uzi said something about having a totally normal, age appropriate, hang out session with N. And he also remembers Nori saying she wasn’t going to go anywhere today. He stepped inside and the door closed behind him.
“Honey? Uzi? Are either of you two home?” Khan was then suddenly flashed banged by the lights coming on after he finished his sentence. Taking a second to re-adjust his opticals, he saw Uzi standing in-front of him with Nori on her head. There was also Uzi’s other disassembly friend in the corner of the room looking very… disinterested. (Khan swears Uzi told him what her name was but he can’t remember for the life of him… W he thinks?). And above them all was a white banner that was hung to the ceiling that said, “Happy Father’s Day!’ in black ink.
“Happy Father’s Day!!” Cheered Uzi and Nori in unison.
Suddenly N came from around the corner and shot confetti in his face with one of his arm cannons. “Hey Mr. Doorman!” N greeted with energy.
After taking a moment to wipe some confetti off his visor, Khan greeted him. “Uh, hi N. Nice to see you. What exactly is all this?”
“Duhhhh, it’s a small Father’s Day surprise we put together for you.” Uzi pointed at the banner as she walked over to him.
“Yeah handsome, you forget that was today?” Nori asked as she jumped from Uzi’s head to his.
“Father’s Day?” Khan quickly checked his internal calendar. “Huh, I guess it is. Was so busy today I guess it just slipped my mind.”
“So, yeah, we got a little banner out of storage, we got you you’re favorite C-Cell batteries in a bowl on the table, got N to throw some confetti at ya, and V’s here for… moral support.” Uzi explained as it looked like she was getting something from her hoodie pocket. (So it was V, not W.)
“Yeah, moral support. Definitely not because N dragged me over here.” V spoke up with a sigh.
“It’s true!” N said with a smile on his face.
“You guys didn’t have to do anything for me.” Khan replied.
“It’s not that we ‘had to’, we wanted to. Today only happens once a year, and it’s one of the first ones we get to spend together in years.” Nori insisted.
“And because we love you and junk,” Uzi quietly added as she passed Khan a card from her hoodie pocket.
Khan looked at the cover that said, ‘To Khan’ with a very crude drawing of a door and opened it. In purple writing it read, ‘Dear Khan, we know that most of the past few years have been rough and a lot happened to say the least. It was a bumpy road, and plenty of mistakes were made that no parenting book could have helped with. But we know you were trying your best throughout it despite having a very unordinary wife and daughter. We mean it when we say with both our fleshy cores we couldn’t have a better husband/dad. We love you, and we never stopped loving you. Sincerely Uzi and Nori.’
As he read the card a warm smile began to creep up on his face. “I- Thank you. I love you both too.” His voice was unusually soft.
“It really isn’t that big a deal we just-” Uzi was then brought into a crushing hug by her Dad.
“Sorry if this is too ‘mushy’ for you, kiddo. This just means a lot to me.” Khan sweetly spoke.
“Nope, it’s all good Dad, Happy Father’s Day.” Uzi then brought her arms around her Dad, and Nori hugged the top of Khan's head with her claws.
