Temporary Love

Summary:

Jessica and Harvey make a bet.

Harvey now realizes that not only was it a bad idea to drink with Jessica, but he also has to find someone who will marry him.

And who's better for this job than Mike?

Notes:

Hi! :)
It's my second work, and English isn't my first language, so I apologize if my writing is messy or hard to understand.

Still, I hope you enjoy!

Chapter Text

As soon as Harvey woke up, he realized he had a massive headache. Well, he shouldn't be surprised, considering he drank probably close to twice his limit. And he was still wearing his suit. Amazing.

Jessica invited him out for a drink, and somehow the drink turned into ten. And then some more.

A wave of nausea washed over him as soon as he got up. Well, there goes his usual morning run.

Harvey hoped a shower would fix his problems, but it didn't help much.

He opted for ordering breakfast, because come on, he wasn't going to cook while fighting demons.

Just as he was about to finish his toast, he realized what  he had agreed to.

"Oh, shit" He ran a hand through his hair. He was pretty much fucked.

It was stupid to agree to the bet. Who in their right mind agrees to get married within a month? He didn't even have a girlfriend, let alone someone who would marry him. It would come close to a miracle.

=====

He'd hoped Jessica would forget about the bet they had going on, but all his dreams were blown away as soon as she smirked at him in passing.

With a sigh he looked around the office. Sure, there were a lot of girls who would want to marry him, but just the though of going through all the dates, small talk, then getting a prenup and actually getting married to them? Just so they can use his money and name? He felt exahusted at the thought already. No, it wouldn't work. It has to be someone he actually trusts.

Harvey greeted Donna, who was suspicioulsy eyeing him, and jut when he was about to walk into his office he paused. His hand stilled on the door handle as he looked at her over his shoulder.

"Hey, Donna?"

"Nope." Damn. That was quick. Normally his ego would be crying, but today he had other issues on hand.

"...okay." Worth a shot.

He took off his coat and sat in his chair. How was he supposed to get any of his work done?

Sure, it was just a bet, but it was a bet with Jessica, and everyone knows Harvey never loses.

Also - does everyone know already? He supposed Donna could know because... Well, she's Donna. Maybe she wouldn't go too hard on him.

Fat chance.

=====

Harvey managed to get most of his work done, and whatever was left he just passed onto Mike. He felt bad sometimes for giving the kid so much work, but they both knew Mike was more than capable of taking it.

Donna, of course, didn't spare him comments. He'd survived a week, which also meant he only had three weeks left.

Harvey didn't realize he was staring at the wall until someone called his name. His head snapped towards the sound, and he sat up straight.

"Harvey? I brought the files you wanted..." Mike looked at him, and Harvey could tell he was searching for something in his expression.

"Hm? Oh, yeah, just put them here. Thanks." He motioned at the desk, rubbing his eyes with the heels of his palms.

"Sure..." Mike did as instructed, but instead of leaving he kept watching the older man. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah. Why?" Harvey looked up at him, and Mike thought he has never seen him as exhausted.

"You almost never thank me. And if you do, it's usually after I work my ass off all night. Plus, you look as if a train ran you over."

Harvey furrowed his brows. Did he really look that bad? He really let himself go.

"Don't worry about it, kid. You're free to go home."

It was neraly nine, and most of the workers already left for the night.

"Are you sure? I could stay and help if you need me...?" Mike watched as Harvey poured himself a glass of whiskey. Probably Scotch, if he knew the man well enough.

"No, it's fine. I'm almost finished here anyways. Get some sleep. I'm going to need you to be sharp tomorrow."

"But tomorrow is saturday." Mike was getting confused and curious. What was going on?

"Is it? Well then, go to a party or something." Harvey would need something stronger than Whiskey, he realized. Preferably a miracle.

"But-"

"Just go."

With a nod Mike was almost out of the room.

"Mike-"

Harvey paused. What was he going to say anyway? Ask if he has any friends interested in temporary marriage? Or maybe a cousin? Surely some of them would want a sugar daddy. Harvey's found himself in a situation like this more times than he would admit. Not that he was complaining of course.

"Yeah?"

Wait... It was actually a half decent idea. Sure, he'd lose a couple of thousands of dollars, but he would win the bet, and in his eyes it was a bigger win than money.

"Actually, nevermind. See you monday."

Harvey didn't pay Mike another look. Instead he was going through the lost of contacts of his ex flings. At least until his Blackberry ran out of battery.

He put the phone back in his pocket and downed the rest of his drink.

It was going to be a long, and hella expensive weekend.

=====

Mike left the office even more confused. It wasn't like Harvey to be so... out of it. He didn't even notice he wore the same suit twice this week.

Of course Mike noticed - for reasons he wouldn't admit even to himself.

His ride bike home was silent. The wired earphones sat in his front pocket untouched. His head was filled with enough noise already.

Only when he got home did he get a minute to breathe. A hot, or, in his case - lukewarm - shower, as his apartment barely had warm water, did wonders to his mind.

Mike tried not to think about Harvey, because what normal person thinks about their boss while they're taking a shower? Granted, the boss was Harvey, and that probably made it even worse.

Standing in the middle of his small bathroom he shook his head, making little beads of water land all around the room like a dog.

Mike laughed to himself - he was really getting into the role of being a puppy, huh? Harvey's puppy. His brain added, but he pushed the thought away.

He really had to stop thinking about Harvey while he was naked.
