“How’d you come up with it?” Michael asked, thighs bracketing Alex’s hips in a lazy sprawl. His scarred hand tracing the thin tattoo that encircled his shoulders. It traveled across his broad back, over his shoulder, under his clavicle.
Alex shrugged one shoulder. “I hid, for a long time,”
Michael nodded, pressing a kiss to the base of Alex’s neck, just over the tattoo. He pulled back, rubbing his thumb over eight distinct bands, trying to remember their meanings.
“For good reasons, and bad.” Alex continued. Michael kept his mouth shut, content to listen to Alex’s deep, even breathing.
He was quiet for a long time, long enough Michael thought he was done talking. But they’d been together long enough, had grown together enough, that he could push, could insist that Alex finish a thought.
“And?”
Alex turned, catching Michael’s mouth in his own, taste as hot and touch as sweet as when they’d been 17.
“And I didn’t want to be able to hide anymore. Never again.”
Michael splayed his hand over the rainbow, pin straight and colorful as a battle flag, encircling his body and his heart.
“No more hiding,” Michael confirmed, drawing Alex into another deep kiss.
