The Irina Foundation Gala was one of the most prestigious events to take place in Ottawa, given the founders.
Family, patrons, potential clients- all invited to get an inside glimpse of the infamous Rozanov family.
Luca had been sent to such an event to find out if the Rozanov's were behind the disappearance of several Haas employees. Over the last few months a steady stream of reliable security detail, drivers, even chefs had all just not shown up for work one day and then weren't seen again. Luca's mother always tried to impress the Russians when they happened to see them at an outing despite the vitriol she spat about them in private, and for some reason she was convinced the Alpha was behind the most recent disappearance; their best security guard to date, Julian.
He'd done a stupid amount of research into the Gala. Different ways to get in, the multiple ways to get out, security detail, guests, the layout of the building, everything checked over with a fine tooth comb to make sure he didn't miss a thing.
The gala was well known to be a private event, it was invite only and everyone was searched at the entrance before being allowed in.
As well as looking for the whereabouts of their workers, Luca had also been instructed to get as much information Roz's new husband, Shane.
If you believed the rumours about Hollander, which Luca's mother liked to use as a cautionary tale, he had travelled to Ottawa from Montreal on a work related trip as the new face of Rolex. He and his Montreal team were meeting with Svetlana Vetrova to bargain a deal for a new collaboration and they ended up with more than they bargained for, not surprising since the Canadian was an unmated omega.
The second Shane walked out of the conference room he bumped straight into Svetlana's business partner, Ilya Rozanov. A brief conversation and an eye watering sum of money later, Shane was signed to the Ottawa team for all future business and brand deals and engaged to the Alpha. Again, if you believe the rumours, there was some clause in the Montreal contract that Shane had to abide by if he left before the contract was up.
He still had three months left with Montreal before he was fully released to Ottawa-and Rozanov by association. Enemies of the Russian often attempted to use Shane as a weak spot, believing him to be a typical defenceless omega.
Those people were not heard from again.
Needless to say Luca didn't want to become a cautionary tale not to fuck with the Rozanov's, nor did he want to be forced into a marriage where he had no rights, the threat of which lingered over his head as he stood in the queue to be patted down before gaining entry to the gala.
"If you screw this up Luca we have a marriage contract ready to be signed that bonds you to Dallas Kent. At least then you might be valuable to the family."
"Mother-"
"Do not argue. The Kent family will be a good marriage for us, it might make it worth having an omega for a son."
"I won't fail mother."
"For your own sake, you'd better not."
The omega got through security with relative ease and situated himself behind a pillar, content to watch all the media personnel try and schmooze their way into an exclusive interview with the Alpha/Omega duo upon their arrival, which according to Luca's watch, should be any minute now.
"Thank you to everyone for coming tonight. Please join me in welcoming your hosts, the founders of the Irina Foundation, Ilya and Shane Rozanov."
A cacophony of applause rang out in the room as Luca watched a set of doors open at the front of the room. Hollander and Rozanov stepped out of the shadows like they were Gods, commanding the attention of every person in attendance.
Rozanov looked good in his classic black suit and he knew it. Though the smug grin on his face might've been from the jealous looks other Alpha's cast him as they watched him escort his husband across the stage and down a couple of steps, a possessive arm lingering around his waist.
Shane was wearing his own knowing smirk. His cream coloured silk shirt was unbuttoned down to his pecs to show off a platinum necklace sitting at the base of his throat, a teardrop shaped diamond nestled in the divet below his Adam's apple.
He was jaw dropping. They both were. And they were both very aware of how the whole room was looking at them with a mixture of desperation and jealousy. Even though Luca despised the way Ilya must've been treating the other omega, he was certainly putting on a good show of having been treating him well, even if he was the Russian's prisoner.
They reached the bottom of the stairs and immediately turned their media-trained smiles on every person who pushed in to be the first to greet them.
Luca shuddered to think of Shane's punishment if he displeased the Alpha, if he dared to drop his appeasing smile for even a second. Well known horror stories of omegas found dead for less ran through his brain, every name and case study memorised through fear of falling into the same traps they had, and consequently paying for it with their lives.
So, since he didn't want to be Dallas Kent's omega or Ilya Rozanov's dog food, Luca moved while they were distracted to a side staircase that led upstairs, looking straight ahead of him as to not make anyone suspicious. In his experience, if he looked like he belonged there, like he knew where he was going, he often got left alone by the security personnel. A lone omega not worthy of any worry.
He got to the top and turned left into a long hallway. He knew from his research the main conference room was at the end on the right, and if Luca was correct then all the proof he needed would be in a locked desk drawer.
"Excuse me, will you play with me?"
Perhaps Luca should've taken a cursory glance behind him.
He whirled round to find a little girl staring at him with her head tilted in curiosity. She couldn't have been any older than 5, too young to have a designated scent yet.
"Uh-"
"Are you one of daddy's friends? I'm bored and I want to play hide and seek."
Despite not knowing who her father was, Luca could guess the answer to that was no.
"Who's your dad?" Luca flicked his eyes up behind her in case an angry parent was going to appear out of the shadows. "Are you lost?"
The little girl giggled, shaking her head. "You're funny."
"Is your dad here?" As much as Luca would love to make a run for it, he couldn't in good conscience leave the pup all by herself with no parent around.
"Yeah. He's with my Uncle Shane."
If anything that confused the omega even more. Surely Rozanov didn't let his prisoner socialise outside of the Russian's approved circle.
"Arthur! Come look at what I found!" This little girl shouted behind her, the smacking of little feet following almost instantly. A slightly older little boy ran up and stood next to his sister, gazing up at Luca who was now firmly on the verge of throwing up.
"Wow, you're pretty." Arthur impressed upon the omega, jaw slack.
"He's really pretty, like Mama."
"No, he's like Uncle Lily."
Luca started to take a couple of steps back while the siblings argued, darting his eyes side to side to check for unwanted company. The two children fell silent when he was about take a peek into the first room on his left, tilting their heads at each other in a way that totally didn't trigger his omega instincts and brightening when a mellow, soothing scent intensified.
"Uncle Shane!"
"Pups if your mother finds out you've been up here alone she'll have an aneurysm."
Luca made a run for the end of the hall while the kids were occupied and Hollander was still out of sight, slipping into the last room he came to and hiding behind the door, keeping it cracked open by a sliver so he could keep watch on Rozanov's prisoner.
"We got bored Uncle Shane, we hate these parties. There's never any cake." The little boy, Arthur, complained loudly.
The omega chuckled, reaching a hand down to smooth over the pup's perpetually messy head of hair. "I'll tell Uncle Lily to order some cake next time, just for you."
The boy beamed.
"Chocolate with sprinkles?"
"Of course Artie. Amber, any requests?"
"I wanna play hide and seek with daddy's new friend."
Luca felt his heart stop. Shane frowned down at the little pup and bent to one knee so he was closer to her.
"Which friend baby? I'll play with you if you want to play."
Amber huffed with the weight of her problem. "I know, I like playing with you and Uncle Lily. This is someone else, we met him just now."
Brown eyes shot up the corridor and met Luca's green ones. The omega didn't move an inch as Shane's eyes bounced over every square inch of the hallway looking for something out of the ordinary.
"Do you know his name? You sure it wasn't Uncle JJ or Uncle Marly?"
"I don't know." Amber looked to her older brother for help. He shrugged.
"He didn't tell us his name. But he was really pretty, and I think he is an omega like you Uncle Shane!"
"Oh yeah, do you know here he went? I'd hate for an omega to get lost up here, and I'm sure Uncle Lily wants to test his hide and seek skills before letting him play with two elite players like you two."
Oh God.
"He went into Auntie Sveta's business room." Amber supplied helpfully, smiling as her Uncle gathered her into his arms and showered her with playful little kisses.
Fuck.
"Good girl Amberochka. Come on you two, let's go find mommy and daddy."
Luca waited until they were fully out of earshot before closing the door and folding himself into a cabinet at the end of the meeting room, pulling the small door closed behind him so everything seemed undisturbed. He'd forget the intel gathering until he was certain he wouldn't be castrated if he was found.
Quick muffled footsteps filled his ears as Rozanov's men split into every room, checking every square inch for the intruder. Someone with very heavy footsteps entered the room he was barricaded in; Luca thought he might've been in the clear when he didn't hear them get close to his hiding spot, until the face of Cliff Marleau, the Russian's righthand man, came into view.
"You gonna come out of there yourself?"
..........................................
"Everyone is accounted for, they've been restrained and blindfolded in the basement for you Roz."
This was the main reason Cliff was Ilya's second in command, his most trusted ally. You gave him a job to do and he did it, no questions asked. He knew the Haas family would send spies tonight, in fact Cliff had been the one to spot almost all of them.
Shane always gave him a disapproving look when he let them mingle freely, letting them think they'd gotten away with sneaking in. Called it 'playing with his food' or something, either way it was fun for Ilya to tease his husband about later in the night when they were in the privacy of their own home and not in front of hundreds of cameras.
"Excellent Marly, thank you. I will be there after I've checked on Shane."
When his husband had come up to him clutching Amber Pike to his chest and holding the hand of Arthur Pike, Ilya didn't know what to think. Had something horrible happened? Was Jackie okay?
Then he'd explained the kids had come across a rogue omega, snooping around where he shouldn't be. Thanks to Amber's ingenious observation skills, Ilya sent Cliff straight to Sveta's office to find this omega and apprehend him with the rest of the intruders. Now he just had to settle his Shane and then he could dispose of their problem.
"Roz there's something you should know before you go down there."
The Russian stood from the armchair he was sat in and gestured for his friend to continue when he hesitated.
"The omega Shane mentioned, he's down with the other fuckers but uh..."
Ilya frowned. "What?"
"He's unbonded. Not only that, but he's an unbonded omega pup. Came with us real easy and didn't put up a fight, seems kinda sweet. Didn't know if it was worth mentioning to Shane?"
If Ilya wasn't married, he could've kissed Marly. Instead he settled for jumping on him in a hug and flinging the door open to go and see his Shane.
"I love you Marleau! Will you go and make sure he is okay? Don't move him or anything, just make sure he is in good condition?"
Cliff laughed as Ilya ran out of the door, almost leaving a trail of dust behind him in his rush.
"Will do Rozy!"
..........................................
Luca was definitely going to die. He tried to make it seem like he was unaffected but tears still streamed down his face from behind the blindfold. The omega sniffled as quietly as he could, hands tied behind his back and knees sore from where he'd been knelt on the cold concrete for the last 20 minutes. He could hear the shuffling and throat clearing of multiple other people lined up next to him so he clearly wasn't the only infiltrator tonight.
At one point a man came in and removed his gag so he could breath a bit easier, but nothing else seemed to have changed.
A door opened from somewhere above him and casual footsteps descended downwards, coming to a stop at the bottom before continuing even closer to where Luca presumed the line of people started.
The steps strolled down past everyone twice when, on the third time, they stopped right in front of Luca. The omega breathed harder but didn't move, just tensed his muscles as the sound of rustling fabric clued him in to someone dropping to one knee in front of him.
"Hmm, pretty. My Shane will like you I think." A heavily accented voice, but surely not. Rozanov?
"Marly will you bring him upstairs?"
"Sure thing Roz."
So that was Rozanov's voice, and he assumed that was 'Marly' who was now hauling him up and over his shoulder in a fireman's carry since his hands were currently incapacitated and his legs had gone numb.
The Swiss was taken up the steps and through a series of corridors, up some more steps and into a room where he was gently placed on a sofa far more comfortable than the floor he had been kneeling on.
When the door closed, Luca felt his blindfold being removed to reveal the Russian Alpha is all his glory, still wearing his suit from the Gala.
"Hello myshka."
"Hello?"
The Alpha sat on the armchair beside him, picking up a glass of vodka and taking a drink, never moving his eyes from Luca's frozen body.
"What is your name?"
"It's Luca. Haas."
"Melina's son?" Ilya pointed a finger out to him. Luca nodded, his family reputation proceeded him.
"I've heard about you. Your mother is trying to marry you off to the Kent family."
"Yes sir." Luca whispered, the reminder of his fate (if he wasn't killed) now a guarantee. He'd managed to stop his tears on the journey to where he was now, but his eyeline started watering against his will.
"I don't like the Kent family. They are shitty Alphas, they don't know how to treat an omega. Especially not one as pretty as you."
"Are you going to kill me?" At this point that would be Luca's preference over a marriage to Dallas Kent. If his family's misgivings were so obvious even other powerful Alphas like Rozanov didn't like them, then Luca had no chance of a life with him.
The Russian frowned, tilting his head at the omega in his displeasure. "Nyet, you are a pup, and you have been set up to fail by your own family. No omega deserves that."
"I'm not a pup!" It was the most vocal Luca had been this whole time, and Ilya smirked at him.
"Okay, whatever you say."
"So if you aren't going to kill me, what are you going to do to me?"
Roz sighed and finished off his drink with one swallow, setting the cup down and moving to sit on the couch with his knee grazing Luca's. He reached out slowly, waiting for Luca to stop his flinching, and wiped away a rogue tear running down his cheek.
"Turn. I will remove rope and then we can talk."
Once the rope was off and Luca was back to facing the Alpha, he began.
"You know I am married to Shane, yes?"
The omega nodded.
"We have worked hard to keep our private life away from the news and it has worked very well. But one of the things people don't know is Shane still has three months of his contract with Montreal left."
"Yeah, mom told me he had three months left with them before he's released to you."
"Yes, well as part of the deal for letting Shane leave his contract early, there was a clause added from Montreal. He can't get pregnant until his contract is up."
Luca frowned. Stopping an omega from getting pregnant was essentially like forcing them to ignore a key part of their biology. An omega knew when they were ready for pups, to purposefully stop that from happening bordered on illegal.
"So, you see our problem. Shane has pupping instincts and I cannot do anything about it. Let's just say it is causing some less than pleasant side effects."
Rozanov seemed to get lost in thought for a second, then came back to himself with a shake of his head and a slap to Luca's shoulder.
"Which is where you come in! You will be my Shane's pup until we can have some of our own."
He hadn't even finished speaking when the omega was already shaking his head.
"No, nope, I can't. I'm promised to Dallas Kent-"
"I already told you I don't like the Kent's and your own mother planned to sell you to them. Your 'family' treats you worse than I treat my dog."
Luca decided to ignore his rebuttal. "You have the Pike's kids, use them for your pups."
"No. I love the Pikelets and so does Shane, but is not the same as having a pup of our own. He can't take the pups home with him so we are being careful he does not get too attached to them. It can cause him distress when they have to leave."
"But-"
"Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. This is not an option, or a choice. You are coming home with me and Shane as our omega. If I did not need you for this, you would be dead by now."
Luca swallowed hard. While not having to go back to his mother's palpable disapproval sent a wash of relief over him, he didn't know anything about Rozanov, or Shane, other than what he'd seen on the news or heard from his mother.
Now he had a choice to make. Go quietly with the Russian and hope for the best, somehow manage to escape back home and be married off to Kent or have Rozanov kill him now.
"Okay."
...............................................
"Ilya?" Shane knocked on the door and opened it slightly, poking his head through the small gap he'd created.
"Come in sweetheart."
The Canadian closed the door behind him and walked over to embrace his husband who was standing by the couch with open arms.
"You are feeling okay?"
"I think so. Hayd and Jackie had to go so the kids have gone too, I told them we'd visit soon, they wanted to say goodbye to their Uncle Ilya but Amber was already out cold."
"My strong omega, perfect."
Ilya swayed them side to side in a hug, burying his face in the side of Shane's neck where his scent was strongest.
"Everything okay?" Shane mumbled into his Alpha's shoulder, not willing to break apart just yet.
"Da, I have a surprise for you."
The omega leaned back just far enough to be able to see his husband's scheming face. At the sound of a toilet flushing, his brown eyes darted to the bathroom door.
"I know how you've been struggling these past few months lyubov moya, because of stupid Montreal contract."
"Ilya-"
"Tonight, the Haas family sent their youngest son here to try and infiltrate us. If he failed, he would go home to be married off to Dallas Kent."
Shane didn't need to say anything for the panic to be evident on his face; wide eyes and slack jaw.
"But they were already sending men, we knew that."
"Exactly, and they have all been rounded up and dealt with. They sent Luca as bait, knowing we'd catch him and he'd fail."
"A good excuse to get him out of their hair." It wasn't the first time Shane heard of something like this happening to omegas, and unfortunately he was sure it wouldn't be the last time.
Ilya held the back of his omega's neck to settle him when Shane's breath started getting a little too choppy for his liking.
"It would be, if it worked."
"What are you talking about?"
Ilya circled his husband so he was stood behind him, sliding his hands down to wrap his arms around his slender waist. With his chin now resting on Shane's shoulder, the Alpha placed a kiss just behind his ear.
"Luca Haas is an unbonded omega pup. He needs comfort, care and people to look after him. People like us."
"Ilya, are you sure?"
"Of course Shanya, he will make you very happy and that will make me very happy."
The bathroom door clicked as the lock was turned.
"He is pretty too, you will like him a lot."
Shane's eyes were fixated on the door, watching the handle turn and a body come into view. Ilya sucked his omega's earlobe into the warm wet of his mouth.
The boy was nervous, that much was obvious from the way he shuffled further into the room and stopped a fair distance away, hands shoved deep in his pockets.
"Um hello."
"Luca? I'm Shane."
"I know, you're kind of a hot commodity in the omega world." The younger omega chuckled a little uneasy.
"Khorosho?" Ilya prompted his husband. Well?
"On idealen." He is perfect
"Only for you my omega."
"My pup?"
"Yours, he's all yours."
