"He's closing today, you can talk to him then" Ranpo threw into the air suddenly, breaking the silence that enveloped the almost empty office
"Huh?" Kunikida was startled by the statement, and, because of the lack of context, quite confused
"You are troubled with something," Ranpo began explaining in a dismissive tone, as if it was obvious "and even though Atsushi-kun is not the only one in the office who can assist you, you won't ask Dazai-san, and I'm not really going to be helpful. If you keep postponing that conversation, it will end up stressing you out even more" Kunikida seemed to think about it for a moment and wrote something in the notebook
"Alright, thank you Ranpo-san, you were really helpful" Upon hearing the words, Ranpo smiled
"No problem, Kunikida-chan"
Almost everyone had left the office, the only ones left being Kunikida, who was finishing up work, and Atsushi
"Atsushi-kun, I would like to have a talk with you"
"Huh? What is it?"
"I have a... problem. And it appears to be that the only one who can help me it's you"
"Me?" Atsushi pointed at himself, surprised and rightfully confused "Why's that?"
"I..." Kunikida hesitated, but after a second of gaining courage, began the consultation "You're a transgender man, correct?"
"Um, yeah" He answered nervously "Why does it matter?" Kunikida had prepared the words hours ago, knowing them by heart and soul, the difficult part came at having to say them out loud
"I think... I'm a woman" Kunikida said, voice unwavering, yet her nervousness could be easily identified by looking at her pursed lips and stiff position
"Oh!" Atsushi was surprised, but visibly relaxed upon processing the words coming out of his coworkers mouth "Kunikida-san, you're trans?"
"I... I think I am, yes" Kunikida also relaxed, but still held her pen with an iron grip
"Well, thank you for telling me, I'm assuming it's your first time saying it, right?"
"Yes... it is, but Ranpo-san already figured it out"
"Of course he would... Either way, I'm really proud of you for managing to build up the courage to tell someone"
"Thank you, Atsushi-kun"
"Which pronouns would you like for me to use for you?"
"Well, ive been thinking of this for a long time, and i think I'd be comfortable with femenine pronouns, although since this is very new for me I'd need time to get used to them, but i wont mind marculine ones too much" Atsushi nodded
"Ok, I got it"
"Atsushi-kun? Since you have already gone by the first steps into your transition, would you care to guide me through mines? I know that our experiences are and will not be the same, but-" Atsushi's face brightened up
"Of course I will Kunikida-san! It really makes me happy to see you become your true self, and sharing experiences it's a good way to learn! You've helped me a lot with finding my place at the Agency, and I'm very thankful for it, so I think it's time I return the favor" Kunikida's face softened and gave him a gentle smile
"Thank you, Atsushi-kun"
"It's really no problem, Kunikida-san"
Kunikida smiled and looked at his watch "How about we continue talking about this tomorrow over chazuke? I have to head out"
"Yes, that would be great! Goodbye, Kunikida-san, and happy pride month"
"Goodbye, Atsushi-kun, happy pride to you too"
