Chapter Text
Mandalore was, once again, in its infancy. Din had welcomed Bo-Katan and the Mandalorian unification with open arms, even if he still clung to the traditions of the Children of the Watch. But settling on a crystallized planet sterilized by war was resource and time intensive. Despite the unification of both clans, there simply weren’t enough people to ensure both rebuild and defense efforts. Mandalore’s rebirth was known only to a trusted few, and for now, it was meant to stay that way.
Din's credits were already stretched thin by the time the first Mandalorian dwellings were finished and ready for occupancy, especially now that he had given up bounty hunting in favor of helping rebuild Mandalorian society. While he wasn’t directly involved in Bo-Katan’s administration efforts, he did make important decisions often enough that he was regarded as her sort of right-hand man. Being unmarried and with no younglings would put him at the bottom of the line to get a home, but his political position made sure he would be the absolute last one, save maybe for Bo-Katan herself. The clan always came first.
He’s not one to shy away from just sleeping under the fighter on warm nights, or taking a long nap crammed in the seat while in orbit, but he was growing tired of sleeping in a tent on the hard glass ground. His shiny chrome starfighter was fast, with a sensitive yoke, but he missed the utility of his Razor Crest. He missed his rickety sleeping cubby, the half-sized shower, and the privacy that came with it. He missed sitting under that big transparisteel windshield and going wherever he felt like, for as long as he wanted.
Din was cranky, tired, and sore, but most of all, he was underutilized. He knew he could do something more than setting plaster bricks all day, listing ship models in his head to pass the time. The clan bleeds credits - the food costs alone stripped him of the small fortune he'd managed to accumulate over the years - and would continue to bleed many more. So, after a talk with Bo-Katan, he decided to go off-world for an extended period of time, and return to doing what he has always done best: hunt.
